Active, potentially unstable neighbors...?

The fall of Montelimar, the French homeland, could give new credibility to a demagogue whose ideas had once been considered fringe but, in lieu of the loss of the mother country, suddenly become relevant. A siege mentality might take over politics, with people worried that they might soon be the target for a new Engellex invasion, drastically changing the way the country had formerly operated. This would lead to traditional peace-time parties having to readjust their platforms or risk being overtaken by old or new radical parties.
That's just a concept for a setting and basic plot, what you want to do with the characters of that setting, should you choose to accept it, is up to you.
Engellex has only annexed Montelimar afaik. He's been at war with a major alliance known as the EDF (despite their inactivity, this would be notable IC'ly) These: (You must be registered for see links,You must be registered for see links) are the major threads to look at, with the Glorious Sixth involving the attack and occupation of Montelimar. It's 11 pages long, but essentially it shows that: Engellex invaded Montelimar. Defeated them in conventional warfare. Montelimar refugees flooded Danmark or Wendmark, I don't have that map area memorized... after all I'm "ASIAN" hurr hurr. As well, the EDF failed to support Montelimar and the Montelimar monarchy was supplant or coerced into cooperation with Engellex monarchy. I'm not sure if they fled to Dan/Wendmark, I wasn't able to finish reading the threads myself.
In addition, Engellex is a staunch opponent of Republicanism. The influx of refugees into your nation, combined with fear of Engellexic anti-Republicanism and imperialism would be important to you. There's another conflict, the Solaren one to your south, but largely for you that's a non-issue compared to the Engellex one, if you take the French path. Furthermore, Engellex has declared war on, but has made no move to invade, Boliatur for their radical Post-Delegationist Republican views. At the moment, if Boliatur continues to play as he has, this may possibly bring Engellex into a conflict with Touzen. Who knows, that's WILD speculation.
I plan on running the country as a small, highly defensible bastion of liberal utopia.
