King Albert and the Queen Mother visit the Colonies
Refugees pile upon the border from Burgundy, but the King believes the maintaining the Confederation abroad is of prime importance

There is a great deal of criticism levied against King Albert after his decision to go abroad as the degree of human suffering in Burgundy continues to increase as the Engell Domain continues to expand the war. The war has been traumatic for Smallanders as the human cost has grown across the border. Meanwhile King Albert has emphasized the importance of the global colonial holdings.

King Albert has been vocal about maintaining a presence in the colonies as neighbors such as Natal have been critical of colonies in Himyar. Desperate to cling onto these regions as part of Petites-Pays’ global prestige, King Albert has insisted that while the world seems to collapse around home, a sense of steady management ought to be projected abroad.

The Monarchy in Petites Pays has always been controversial. Added by demand of the Gallo-Germanian powers in the 19th century, the cantons of Petites-Pays have historically ruled themselves by direct democracy and continue that tradition today. The political system being a mess and difficult to navigate for foreigners with the multiple cantons and lack of a central political figure in the Federal Assembly.

While the King’s tour commences, truthfully the Federal Assembly must figure out how to deal with the influx of refugees. Petites-Pays is a popular location for Burgundians to flee towards due to the linguistic similarities. Yet Petites-Pays has not yet figured out how to manage the influx of Burgundians as refugees camps have been created on the border. Many within the Federal Assembly have suggested than an appeal to the World Permanent Conference should be necessary to help with the burden. Even still, banks within Petites-Pays have been more than willing to accept Burgundian gold and money with the promise of return after the conflict. The additional solvency has helped the banks and the Smallander economy during this economic downturn which seems destined to be considered a recession.

King Albert and his mother will start in the Implarian or Silk Sea and move west ending his tour in Nzadiland, with a short stop in Natal.

The King visits Esperance in Lele-Lahaina
A key location for the National Navy in the Cathay Sea, the King’s arrival is welcomed with L'esprit Aloha
(Picture: Hula dancers playing music in Esperance)

They call it L’espirit Aloha or in Anglaise the Aloha spirit. Aloha means many things to the Lahainans. The primary usage of the word «aloha» is as a greeting, much as a person from Lars might say «ciao»; however, the world holds a far greater use from love, peace, compassion or mercy. The Aloha spirit is to combine all of these as a national representation for the Lahainans. The arrival of the King and his mother put this spirit on full display as women dressed in full hula costume placed a necklace of flowers called a «lei» around their neck. The hospitality of the Lahainans on full display, the royal entourage were given fresh pineapple and a dance.

Lele-Lahaina is an old possession of the Confederation. First given to Petites-Pays by the Eternal Empire as a gift that came with a price tag of several million Francs in today’s currency back in the 18th century. Petites-Pays and the Eternal Empire traded frequently, and Lele-Lahaina maintains a large population from Touzen to this day because of it. As a matter of fact, the Gallian-Smallander population of the islands sits at 24% with roughly 33% of the population of Touzenese or Jizhouese decent. A great deal of this is owed to the background of Lele-Lahaina which was found by the Eternal Empire in the late 16th century. At that point in time it was dominated by the Polynesian-Lahainan people and their King Kamehameha IV. In fact, when the territory was sold to the Confederation, it was not recognized as part of the Eternal Empire by the native Lahainans, nor was it fully understood if the Eternal Empire recognized it as such, thus giving rise to the idea that the Confederation was a nation of wealthy idiots in the Eternal Empire.

When the Confederation fell to Burgundy in 1802, the Lahainan Kingdom continued, and welcomed the new Confederation as if nothing changed in 1826. By 1840, the Lahainans had to deal with an influx of Gallian-Smallanders and by 1890 refugees from the Jizhou would come as well. It would be in 1902 that officially the Lahainan Kingdom would end with the death of their Queen without an heir, and the territory which was always claimed by the Confederation would be also recognized by the Lahainans.

The idea of independence, and the native Lahainan religion which is practiced by only about 10% of the population is often a topic, but seems unfathomable with nearly half of the population as Gallian-Smallander or Touyouan. Even then only 15% of the population is native Lahainan, with the rest being of mixed decent. Even still, the ways of the ancients, gods, and spirits can determine if a building is allowed to be built in a location.

Today Esperance is a major hub for airliners and ships in the Cathay Sea, of which only Smallanders call it that as it is preferred to be called the Silk or Implarian depending upon the culture. King Albert will inspect the naval base and visit with locals over the next few days which will host a traditional «luau» for him.

Enjoying Dauphine and Ignoring its Past
The King now visits an island that is only known for tourism and a rapidly expanding Gallian-Smallander culture

A difficult thing to remember is what exactly Dauphine was before the people from the Petites-Pays arrived. Now the home of the Indala Sea naval base and a major tourist destination for Gallians that might wish to venture further than the beaches of Auraria, Dauphine is a place without a real heritage.

The Marine Nationale arrived on what is today known as Dauphine in 1631 as a mostly deserted island with remnants of both Aurarians and Gunns, but not anyh real settlement. Native tribes were largely wiped out by prior explorers through guns and disease. When the charter city of Saint-Louis was founded in 1638, shortly followed by Sainte-Marie in 1640, the island became a key refueling port for the navy. The island would then become a hub for trade. Merchants from across southern Himyar would come to Île de Dauphine in search of the wealth that came naturally with frequent travelers. The island was one of the last well managed stops on the way to Auroengellian Clarenthia for those looking to avoid the more volatile northern route.

In 1826, Imerimanjaka was separated from Dauphine as a territory that was considered too Himyari to be governed similarly as Dauphine. The difference in wealth and treatment of peoples has been stark and drawn criticism.

Today Dauphine is an island with a population of 2.4 million people and a bustling tourist industry. The population itself has largely adopted Gaulois Bas or Low Gallian, the language spoken in Petites-Pays in comparison to the Burgundian Gallian. Large differences in the language include the names of meals and numbers for example. This has not stopped the development of a type of creole here, which can be a challenge to non-native speakers.

The King has enjoyed deviating from wine with his wife who has joined him in Dauphine with mimosas. Notably missing is their daughter who began school this week.
A relaxing environment for the King in what is becoming a rapidly declining tourist industry, has left the beach a bit more empty than usual as global economic fortunes continue to falter. Obviously this has been hard for Dauphine and while the King’s arrival provides some help, it obviously is nothing large enough to off set anything other than spirits.

This is the last luxurious stop for King Albert and his entourage before they travel to the more difficult locations of Imerimanjaka, Natal, and Nzadiland. Imerimanjaka is known as one of the poorest regions in the world. Nazadiland has struggled with ethnic murders in recent years, as well as a history of colonial abuses. The King will divide these two visits with a stop in Natal to speak with leaders and the public about what he wants to do in alleviating poverty in the Himyari colonies and continue to address the Natalian demands for decolonialization in the region.

Welcome to Imerimanjaka and one of the poorest places on the planet

Poverty is a major problem in the streets of Sainte-Marie. The Catholic Church is often hard at work feeding, bathing, and caring for the sick. Imerimanjaka is a territory to the south of Natal and the Dune Sea that has struggled through mismanagement and exploitation. The primary export of Imerimanjaka are spices, and it was once considered the spice capital of the world. This collapsed with the Imerimanjaka Revolution, its failure to gain independence in 1905, and the result of that war where revolutionaries burned farms and jungles.

Much of the poverty of the region can be traced to the 1826 separation from Dauphine.

Today Imerimanjaka is on the rebound, but the areas that thrive are rural. People that are able to live off their own land, or engage in the tourist industry to explore the jungles and diverse wildlife of Imerimanjaka find themselves well off.
The jungles and wildlife preserves which are protected by the Government in Louisiane, are home to animals such as lemurs, penguins, and monkeys. Farmers today grow a lot of the medical herbs and remedies required for the pharmaceutical companies in Eiffelland and the Anti-State.

Income inequality is massive. Diseases such as HIV/AIDS have been problematic to address in the oft uneducated impoverished lower classes. Yet already with a population of 16 million, the population is still expected to grow.

The King’s visit drew large crowds, but was underscored by a degree of protests which demanded independence. The last time an independence referendum occurred was in 1985, when it was defeated with a 52% majority and heavy campaigning by businesses which felt an independent Imerimanjaka would mean the death of their industries. At the time there was a worry that there could be world wide shortages of some drugs related to Hodgkin’s disease and leukemia.

King Albert will visit Natal later this week.

Shock as King and Royal Entourage Killed in Revolutionary Statement
Rebels from Nzadiland detonate hotel explosion in Natal and declare independence

A great pall has covered the hearts and minds of the people of Petites-Pays. King Albert as part of his colonial tour has been declared dead after the bombing of his hotel in Camp Hill, Natal. The attack, in an apparent terrorist action that was simultaneously executed with a declaration of Nzadiland.

The newly proclaimed President Bolongo declared, « the death of this false king is a major victory for the people of Nazadiland ». Joseph Bolongo is the man who is taking credit for the bombing of the Grand Hotel in Camp Hill. The Grand Hotel has had entire floors eliminated in the bombing which was of large enough in size to cause structural collapse of areas of the building not immediately impacted by the blast.

Nzadiland is a colonial possession of the Small Lands. The region is rich in minerals and composed of various tribes. With the Declaration of Independence that was launched with this terror attack that has assassinated a significant portion of the royal family, the question of what Nzadiland will become is a significant problem. Gunfire has erupted in the capital city of Louisville, as Smallander troopers have engaged in protecting government buildings.

This tragedy has passed the crown to King Albert’s daughter, Marie-Charlotte. She is currently in attendance at secondary schooling in Louisiane. A royal funeral is scheduled in one weeks time.

Meanwhile, the Federal Council must choose how to address the conflict in Nzadiland which has rapidly deteriorated in the hours since the assassination. News of the events has rapidly spread and similar tribal revolts have opened up making it difficult to ascertain what impacts across the vast and jungled nation.

Upon learning of this horrific act, His Imperial Majesty the Emperor declared that the Imperial Court shall observe a period of mourning. Requiem Masses will be said for the king and his mother and all killed in the bombing. All will be done to assist Marie-Charlotte during this time of tragedy.

These revolutionary acts committed by anarchists and nihilists do nothing but cause pain and suffering among the peoples they claim to be helping as has been so terribly shown in Neustria and Pillau.

Official Statement

Propontis, 19 September 2019 - Public Statement

To whom it may concern,

The Empire of Pelasgia condemns this most treacherous and cowardly attack which has shed the blood of innocents, including members of Royalty, for no good reason. While we sympathise with the aspirations of all of our Himyari brothers for freedom from colonial rule, we cannot endorse such barbarism.

The Empire of Pelasgia is prepared to help the Natalian and Smallander authorities in whatever way necessary to bring the perpetrators of this travesty to justice. As Pelasgia directly neighbhours Nzadiland, we will monitor events there closely, and we call for peace and negotiation to prevail, being willing to offer Propontis as a neutral and safe negotiation forum for the two sides.

We offer our condolences to the new Queen of the Small Countries, and wish that Her reign might be long and prosperous. Our embassy's flag shall fly at half a mast, with a black pennant of mourning, for the duration of the mourning period for late King Albert's death.

This assassination is abominable and unforgiveable. The so-called president of Nazadiland, Joseph Bolongo, has been placed on a full sanctions list by the Monetary Conduct Authority - all assets of his in Nedernesia have been frozen, all transactions with Nedernesian financial institutions barred and any transactions conducted in Nedernesian Guilders from/to him and his affiliates will be blocked. Bolongo and all his known family and associates have likewise been placed on this sanctions list as well as a travel ban to Nedernesia.

The Commonwealth flag will fly at half mast for one week across our country.

Her Majesty Marie-Charlotte
Queen of Petites-Pays
Louisiane, Petites-Pays

Dear Queen Marie-Charlotte,

To Queen Marie-Charlotte, the Federal Council, and to all the people of the Confederation of Petites-Pays, please accept the condolences of the Commonwealth of Clarenthia and its people. The Commonwealth has ordered its flag to be flown at half mast in respect of the lives lost.

The Commonwealth remains sympathetic to the aspirations of political self-determination and the decolonization of Himyar, however it cannot condemn in any harsher terms the use of senseless violence. As in all areas of the political sphere, civility must remain quintessential and dialogues must be held.

The Treaty Lands stands ready to assist the Smallanders in any way that it can to assist in these times.

In mutual prosperity,

Military Reaches Demarcation Line
The previously announced demarcation line has been secured with defensive positions taken along it
(Picture: Howitzers of the army waiting for orders near the border)

The promise made by the Government and the Federal Council has been fulfilled as the military reached the furtherest extent of their defensive position in Burgundy. Scouts and patrols have already escorted over 200 refugees across the demarcation line in the first eight hours as Burgundians have acknowledged the specially created zone.

The defensive and refugee zone was contentious at first, with the Serenien Government expressing slight disapproval of the zone, but they have yet to lodge a formal complaint beyond the urgency for the Burgundian People’s Republic to recognize the zone for it to be legitimate. The Federal Council has stressed that the zone is purely defensive and humanitarian, with the express goal of shifting control of the territory to the recognized successor state of Burgundy after the war. Thus far, Louisiane only recognizes Neustria and as that government has ceased to exist in all practical matters, no government is recognized by Petites-Pays at this moment.
In fact, the Federal Council has further elaborated that with Burgundy both in a state of civil war and in a state of war with the Engel states, it will not begin talks or formal recognition of any entity until all conflicts come to a close.

The wars in Burgundy have forced Petites Pays to maintain its military on high alert, but this has also impaired its ability to react in Nzadiland where its independence movement has forced Smallander forces to retreat and regroup to coastal locations where naval support could be offered.

Meanwhile, doctors and aid workers from Zhorya have arrived and set themselves up with food and water at various refugee camps across the defense and refugee zone. Additionally foreign peacekeepers have arrived from Touzen to help maintain the peace and safety of the zone, although this has been done without fanfare or even publicity from either government.

It should be expected that more foreign peacekeepers and aid workers will arrive in the zone as the weeks pass. Peace talks currently appear to be set to begin in Azraq; however, the reignited war between the Engells and the Serenien governments has yet to see any real ceasefire be upheld.

A Special Engagement!
Duke Jean-Louis Gaston d’Kolmar has announced his engagement to Grand Duchess Isabella di Lars

Congratulations are in order to the Duke of Kolmar and Grand Duchess of Lars, who announced their engagement at a press conference near his palace in Kolmar. The news is a change of pace from the usual dreary war reports that have occupied Europe over the summer. The news has left Smallanders wondering who Grand Duchess Isabella is.

The Grand Duchess of Lars is the only daughter of Grand Duck Francesco IV and Maria Antonia. She assumed the titles of her realm at the unfortunate age of sixteen when her father and mother died in a tragic aeroplane crash. She herself has become known for her attendance at Leopolda I for her university studies, and her reign which has been apolitical and a symbol of national unity.

Her role in government while impartial politically has not stopped her from advancing her own personal causes. Isabella is known for her support of the environment and it is often assumed that she plays a large role in funding anti-whaling campaigns. However, her biggest openly public campaign has been with Roma or Gypsy* groups in Crotobaltislavona and the government. This work has been key in showing Larsians her concern for those less fortunate.

That general perception of her mixes well with her future husband Jean-Louis Gaston. The Duke of Kolmar has focused his work in Petites-Pays trying to keep automobile emissions low to improve the air quality in urban areas. His own university studies at the prestigious University of Orléans-sur-Mer focused on human impact on biodiversity in coastal regions of Gallia.

The couple should be a strong match in their crusade against polluters and industry. Long may they reign!

(*) This news outlet does not believe in referencing of the Roma people as gypsies; however, uses this offensive term due to its usage officially in Germania. This marking of an asterisk is our symbol of protest.[/DIV]

Long Live the Queen!
Marie-Charlotte has taken the throne at the young age of seventeen, still in secondary school
(Picture: Queen Marie-Charlotte at a royal appearance after the ceremony)

The confederation’s youngest Queen, or monarch of any gender has taken the throne over a month after the passing of her parents. She did not want to begin the ceremony or accept the role until she felt more emotionally confident and her long awaited appearance in public was met with cheers in Louisiane.

Marie-Charlotte is the first of her name and the first Queen of the Smallanders. The royal history of the Smallands is short because they were installed in 1826 at the insistence of all of its Gallian neighbors which demanded that an independent Petites-Pays maintain a monarch in the aftermath of the Aurarian Revolution.

As most will notice Petites-Pays is called a Confederation, as the monarch is secondary to the establishment of the nation. It has remained through time, seen as a signal of distaste against Serenien reactionary socialism, against the breakdown of Bourgogne, or even the hedonism of Auraria. Despite the urge to stand against Gallian neighbors, the Smallanders have maintained amicable relations with the various regimes that have change around them over time.

The beginning of this new era with Queen Marie-Charlotte is just as contentious as any time previous. Rebels wage war in Nzadiland, Bourgogne looks to fall to Leninov-Marxism, and communism continues to spread across Gallia.

Marie-Charlotte kept her words to a minimum signaling both strength but also a respect for the institutions of the nation, «I do not wish for the hopes and dreams of these Smallands to fall upon unsteady shoulders. I will finish my schooling while I work for the people, and I will work to ensure that my parents did not parish in vain. Just as well, I do not wish to see our children parish in vain many hundreds of kilometers away for the wishes of endless empire.»

Her words drew applause, but were dismissed as ignorant by the two main conservative parties in the Federal Assembly, the Christian Post-Delegationist Union and Post-Delegationist and Republican Movement. They currently represent the opposition, and did their best to not insult the integrity of the crown, but spoke with dissatisfaction of the Queen’s politicization of the war in Nzadiland which they felt should be a moment of national unity.

Despite this perceived misstep, Marie-Charlotte enjoys broad support at the moment of around 73% of all Smallanders who wish to give her the chance to succeed despite her youth.

She will begin her reign with a heavy schedule as she needs to meet with other royals around the world which have wished her well and spoken highly of her mother and father. Many of which respected King Albert and expressed their sympathies in their home countries with actions of flag etiquette and ceremonies commemorating the King in stone or pavement. Marie-Charlotte has a great deal of her parents sensibilities but will have to mature quickly to hope to be able to stand up to the nature of politics in the Smallands. –Long live the Queen!

The Eiffellander Automobile Crisis
What hurts the value of neighboring vehicles has helped surge Smallander vehicles
(Picture: The A110 at the Aix-des-Moines Automobile Show)
22 octobre 2019 — Anglaise

Cars from neighboring Eiffelland have often been pointed to as the best automobiles in the world, despite the claim often being countered by Gallian, Touzenese, and Sylvanian automakers. Regardless of such claims, Eiffellander vehicles are being “lifted” by the Polesian company known as Folxmashin. The vehicles are said to look, act, and feel just like the Eiffellander models. Compared with their cheaper cost against the original models, the result has been the value and sales of Eiffellander vehicles plummeting in many nations.

«Why buy the expensive one? You’re only paying for the badge!»

The raw deal is the only thing that can be said for Eiffellanders, which find their factories directly hit by the slowdown in sales as Folxmashin has found itself for sale in nations across the globe.

To borrow a term from the Eiffellanders, the events have only left a sense of schadenfreude for carmakers in Petites-Pays. The events have seen many consumers switch to Smallander makes and models. Buying a car that is often a little cheaper than the Eiffellander model, but certainly unique and without the feeling of being robbed when a cheaper version exist has seen sales of manufacturers from Aix-des-Moines grow by 10% to upwards of 50% in some markets.

Aix-des-Moines represents the heart of the Smallander automobile industry with three firms located there. It is also where Touzenese automakers have some of their Gallo-Germanian production headquartered. The largest of the firms, Société des Automobiles Bouchard, reported that sales in even Eiffelland had improved.

The awkward benefit of Folxmashin to Gallian makers has left the government in a bind. They are not eager to help enforce the Eiffellander patents in much of the world, although such a position would be of benefit to Smallander, and indeed all foreign firms in the long run. Instead, the Federal Council has only suggested that they have discussed the question of Folxmashin but find it irrelevant because they have not attempted to sell their vehicles in Petites-Pays yet, a difficult market due to its historic support for local automakers and the dominant second place position of the Touzenese auto industry.

OOC: One remark. Polesia and I agreed on it that the only cars Folxmashin copied are the DW Alisio, DW Solano and the Raimer Pamir, so my car industry is less in a crisis than you are RPing here.
