The Gunnland Stephanitic Organizing Committee invites all nations to send teams to the 2018 Winter Games in Gunnland. Competitions will take place in the following twenty-four (24) events.

Events will take place across the mountainous north-central region of Gunnland. Curling, figure skating, speed skating, and ice hockey will take place in the major northern city of Ayr. Outdoor skiing events will take place in the Arundel Mountains in the County of Arundel, especially in the ski resorts near Kennaquhair. A cross-country skiing course will be staked out on the Isbre Glacier near the town of Purpoole.

OOC:

1. Those who would like to participate will need to send names of athletes in the following events. Participant countries can participate in as few as one event, or as many as twenty-four. Qualifications may be necessary.

2. I shall randomize results for some events (for others, see #3). You may, however, indicate up to three athletes that have an "edge" in. Just place a (+) next to the names of those athletes. I shall then double their chances of medaling. However, for each athlete that you give an edge, please indicate an athlete to sandbag by placing a (-) next to their names. I shall then halve their chances of medaling.

3. The timing of these games will roughly coincide with the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. For select events, if the participants seem to line up right, I reserve the right to pair your country with a RL country participating at PyeongChang to give our Stephanitic Games a "fantasy winter olympics" aspect.

((OOC: I'd love to participate and realistically this is something Bergenheim would be majorly involved/interested in, but I still haven't written up our participation in the last set of sporting events, and I'm not sure I'd be able to do this RP justice alongside everything else. So ICly, we're in, but OOCly, I'm out. Is that feasible?))

OOC -- I think OOC posts are fine in this organizing thread, and that it would be superfluous to split off another OOC thread.

I'd love to participate and realistically this is something Bergenheim would be majorly involved/interested in, but I still haven't written up our participation in the last set of sporting events, and I'm not sure I'd be able to do this RP justice alongside everything else. So ICly, we're in, but OOCly, I'm out. Is that feasible?

Give me up to three of your best athletes (+), and up to three of your worst (-). It's the winter olympiad: just load up in one event you want your country to be good at. Nobody needs to RP anything.

(OOC don't know if you want all players names or just a team of males) Male Team +)

Optionally, you can give me a few names. I'm going to start a cooperative newsthread.

As my country is split, there will be two teams. Gouw Marken, a Nordic country, has a tradition of winter sports. It is known for Ski-jumping, Curling, Figure Skating and Ice Hockey. West-Gouw Marken (WGM) will not send any woman in ‘not-womanlike’ sports (to compensate having two teams OOC): WGM: West-Gouw Marken; EGM : East-Gouw Marken

OOC: One thing we could do, at least on the men's side, is "peg" the seeds to IRL hockey teams at the Olympics. The problem is that there are 12 teams in Korea, though our 8 teams might conform to the top 8, especially if these 8 make the quarterfinal. I'm going to dither with this idea.

1 Bourgogne = Canada
2 Kadikistan = Russia
3 Caledonia = Finland
4 Geotri = USA
5 EGM = Sweden
6 Elben = Czech Republic
7 WGM = Switzerland
8 Gunnland = Slovakia

Slovenia, Norway, Germany, S. Korea

Results from the games will be reported as newsposts here:

For the men's hockey tournament, I will assign each country to the 8 teams in the RL men's hockey quarterfinals. That will be much more fun than a weighted random number generator on a spreadsheet, which I use to determine who wins first gold, then silver, then bronze. The athletes you've chosen to be "strong" have a 3X greater likelihood to win than an average athlete; in the sport you've chosen to be "weak" in, your number has to come up twice in a row to win (the first time it's discounted).

@Kadikistan @Bourgogne @Geotri @Eiffelland @Elben @Gouw Marken @Caledonia

Results from the Ayr 2018 men's ice hockey tournament will shadow the tournament in PyeongChang. I assigned real country teams first based on strength and second with what seemed to me like good fits:

EGM: Sweden
Eiffelland: Germany
Bourgogne: Canada
Finland: Caledonia
Russia: Kadikistan
Norway: West Gouw Marken
Czech Republic: Elben
USA: Geotri

Here is the RL bracket:

So in our world:

Sweden vs. Germany = East Gouw Marken vs. Eiffelland
Canada vs. Finland = Bourgogne vs. Caledonia

OAR/Russia vs. Norway = Kadikistan vs. West Gouw Marken
Czech Rep. vs. USA = Elben vs. Geotri
