CRSS Western Spirit and the Pillar of Freedom, two Marathon-class guided missile cruisers had sailed east from Baldwin-Whitehall, Sylvania followed by four Spitfire-class missile destroyers: the Pioneer, Kestrel, Starbuck and Haven. Their mission was to conduct a freedom of navigation mission through the Claret and Reman seas and link up with a task force of Touzener destroyers in the silk and conduct a training mission before returning to Baldwin-Whitehall through the Northern Passage Canal.

Captain Stanley Bird III was in command of the squadron as captain of the lead ship Western Spirit. The Western Spirit was a good ship but she was aging and becoming expensive to maintain like all of the Marathon-class ships. Eventually they would be phased out for the newer and more technologically advanced destroyers that accompanied him in this small squadron. The Long Sea as some called it was not known for a calm political climate surrounding the nations it bordered, but this mission would be a quiet one, he could tell. They had made good time after they had left the shipyards in Baldwin-Whitehall, he could still see the gleaming towers of the two cities made one in his minds eye, shrinking in the distance as they sailed south east toward the entrance of the Claret Sea. Already he could see the shores of Madurja and Himyar growing larger as if to greet the Sylvanian ships.

A ensign brought him his evening coffee steaming hot and black, just as he always took it. The sun was setting behind them giving a the blue skies a heavenly glow, Bird took a moment to enjoy the changing colors of the evening sky. It was then that he realized that the ensign had not left his side. "Speak up son, what could it be keeping you at my side." The ensign handed him a piece of paper, it was unmistakable, new orders had come into the CIC.

Captain Bird chuckled for a moment to himself. "Have the officers prepare for a briefing at 0500 tomorrow morning." Captain Bird thought to himself, "Perhaps will have some fun on this mission after all."

They would be in the area in two days.

The Friulian naval operations in the Reman sea where known by all, as they were structured and evolved in the centuries. the delicate naval routes going from Furlanìe, through the Retalian strait, to the long-sea territories, where vital to the economic stability and national integrity of the maritime Republic of Tergest far back from the late middle ages, and to the Grand Duchy of Furlanìe today.
But even tho everyone knew, since the advent of submarines, the Friulian naval policy was one of secrecy, the stability of the whole Reman sea, considered by some an extension of the nation itself, was taken in the hands of the Friulian Navy, one of, if not the most advanced player in those waters for ages.
The secrecy was required by the vast amounts of naval traffic and national interests in the area, the large fleet of submarines scanning and moving in silence deep under the sea helped avoid diplomatic quarrels and foreign political crusades that the imposing presence of warships often provoked, while guarding the safety of trade and movement, and guaranteeing fast intervention and influence over the area.

Since the rise of Montedorean-Pelasgian tensions in the Long sea the proud Friulian Navy was in high alert, the international irritation that followed the movement of the small Friulian flotilla from mainland Furlanìe to the naval base in Savalonut helped reaffirm the importance of the classic discreet policy of surveillance.
And so a small detachment of submarines was sent from the Reman into the Long sea, and spread out from the Montedorean coast to the entrance of the Retalian strait.

The group, directed from the spy ship Ustinade in Savalonut, monitored any unusual movement, being also very careful not to irk the Pelasgian Navy. for this reason the entire operation was kept the most secret possible, with only the Confenonîr and the Grand Duke knowing about it.

The Submarines stood still and silent, monitoring the waters, and moving only at night, carefully, to refill their food supplies, fuel and rotate the personnel some miles from Savalonut, with the help of a large oil tanker disguised as a fishing vessel.

Also the Eiffelloretalian armed forces considered maintaining the stability in the Claret Sea, the Retalian Sea and the western part of the Hamar Sea to be one of their tasks. There were always some Eiffelloretalian naval vessels patrolling in the Claret Sea and the waters around Eiffelland-Retalia, including submarines and aircraft carriers. Furthermore, three early warning and control aircraft patrolled the skies permanently, and there were always some fighters and helicopters in the air.

This was just a routine day for the Eiffelloretalian armed forces. At least it seemed like one.

The plan was simple. To continue to sail around the world on traditional trade routes for Pohjanmaa. On this voyage three destroyers and a cruiser were making the journey and it would be a bit different this time. Admiral Kurri had been recommended by the War Department to undertake exercises with the Sylvanians and Touzenese. Sailing to the west he had gone past Sylvania already and enjoyed his time in port there. Karlstad always being a treat that he had liked to visit. Cross the Silk was not an enjoyable task though. It was long and monotonous.

However he was now beginning to sail into the Hamar Sea and looked forward to the exercises in the area.

March 9th, 2020, Claret Sea

CRSS Western Spirit broke off from the Touzener tankers they had met on their trip into the Long Sea, all six ships had received fuel sufficient enough to continue their trip on toward New Touzen, and them some, where they would be docking for a few days and taking on more supplies.

Suddenly the Ensign reappeared with a new communication. Captain Bird took the communication and read it.

Eiffelland-Retalia was not that pompous with its names for naval vessels. Mainly the names of the provinces, cities and rivers were chosen instead of names like "Liberty", "Freedom" or "Red Dawn". Sometimes a large vessel was named after an important person, but only sometimes.

The Salzburg was a destroyer based in Varel. It was on a patrolling mission in the waters south of Helgoland when it received a notice about the gathering of Pohjanmaan and Sylvanian ships south of the island of Morsum. In international waters, but nevertheless. What was the purpose of eight DDI-ships south of Morsum, in the middle of the world's most important sea trade route?

The Salzburg received orders to sail towards the DDI-ships, but not to engage them until further notice.

Meanwhile, the Navy and the Air Force in Helgoland and Rügen went to Alarmstufe 2, which among others meant that planes should be ready for deployment within 15 minutes, and that the military communication was coded.

Three more destroyers were prepared for sailing towards the area as well. Furthermore, 12 Seehabicht helicopters were sent to the area, as well as 2 fighters. The orders were: "Watch but do not engage yet."

Of course the government was informed as well. It was decided to give a press conference on the matter, and to urgently invite the ambassadors of Sylvania and Pohjanmaa to the Ministry of Foreign Affars.

Skies above Southern Continental Eiffelland

Prince Johann von Dietz-Hadamar, who had the rank of Major in the Eiffelloretalian Air Force, was patrolling the skies above Southern Continental Eiffelland when he heard over the board radio that the Sylvanian and Pohjanmaan Navies were withdrawing.
That is good news, he thought by himself. He was not afraid of engaging the fight at all, and understood very well that the Sylvanian and Pohjanmaan ships would not have been a match to the military material based on Helgoland, but a war would not have been good for anyone. Whether it was wise or not to start a diplomatic riot about those military vessels, Prince Johann considered it a difficult question. In any case, Eiffelland-Retalia had shown that it was not afraid to raise its voice and show its muscles when a bunch of military vessels started to do some strange things just outside the territorial waters.
Prince Johann also knew the kind of people that currently ruled Sylvania, especially their commonalities and their differences with the rulers of Kadikistan. Both were testosterone-driven machos, like himself (although to a lesser extent). But there was also an important difference: When you presented yourself being weak, the Kadikistani were lenient and the Sylvanians grew sadistic. Therefore, Prince Johann considered it good that the Eiffelloretalian Navy had shown its willingness to fight when needed. Maybe it would turn the Sylvanians a bit friendlier from now on.
For the Kadikistani, maybe they were nice as long as you accepted their rulings, but Prince Johann was definitely not willing to accept their rulings. Seven Days War or not, Eiffelland-Retalia would not accept foreign ruling, unless it would be foreign ruling by a supranational entity that Eiffelland-Retalia was a part of as an equal, like in the ODS. When the Kadikistani would accept that and approach Eiffelland-Retalia as equals, peace could endure.

Helgoland and surroundings

"The Sylvanian and Pohjanmaan military vessels are withdrawing. Back to Alarmstufe 1," sounded over the radio frequency of the Navy units on and around Helgoland. "Furthermore, no humuliating actions against the Sylvanians and the Pohjanmaans. They are doing what we want them to do. Allow them an honourful withdrawing."

Trier

Minister of Foreign Affairs Di Gravesano-Carone sent a message to the Ambassadors of Sylvanian and Pohjanmaa:

[div] style="border: 1px solid #D8D8D8;; min-height: 500px; background-color: #FBEFEF; padding: 5px; float:center" |
We are seeing that your ships are withdrawing. This is a wise decision on your side. We trust that we both learned from this event.

Hoping for more fruitful encounters in the future,

Yours Sincerely,

Gian-Luigi di Gravesano-Carone, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Extraordinary Ambassador of the Italophone minority in Eiffelland-Retalia[/div]
