“Good sir, I believe you need my help. You don’t know who I am, but I know who you are. You are man who works for the government. You have connections with the Aurarian Government. You need my help, because I represent a particular government and have a particular set of information that you might find of great use.” She smiled and waited for his reply while he looked like a man who just needed to finish his coffee after a long night out.

While this was certainly not the first time a random woman had confronted him in public claiming to know who he was, this was without a doubt a unique situation. He put down his coffee and looked at the woman who was sitting across from him.

"You have thirty seconds of my time, ma'am," he said "more if you don't waste it."

She smiled. This was not her first time in Auraria, and always found it interesting how things could sometimes be so straight forward here. In half of the other countries she had been to she would have been offered a drink or the man may have been a bit more flirty. “Only thirty seconds? That’s disappointing. You see I was hoping to get some coffee as well. You see, the people I know are interested in forming an informal alliance with your country. They see some mutual overlap in policy and believe that Aurarian sea power can help dictate the Thaumantic. Furthermore, it would be possible to dictate policy in Gallo-Germania and own the Long Sea much like your geography insists that it should. If you are not interested in that, then I’ll go drink my coffee over there.” She motioned to some bar stools that were directly in front of a window that overlooked the busy street outside.

The man smirked and took a sip of his coffee, seeing it was now empty.

“Maybe it’s the headache,” he said “I’m having a tough time determining your accent. I can tell it isn’t your normal tone, but you’re doing a good job of concealing it.”

The man lifted his hand as a waitress walked by.

“May we get two more coffees and some magdalenas?” he asked, the waitress smiled and walked away “I’m going to need more than 30 seconds, I suppose. I doubt you’re going to tell me where your friends are from, and that’s fine – the mystery has a certain allure to it. Now, say that my country would be interested in hearing such a proposal. How do you suggest this informal alliance accomplish these lofty goals?”

She giggled and lip her lower lip a little. She was getting older, but that just gave her a little more experience in controlling her appearances. The round of coffee appeared, “Thank you, señor.” Blowing on the coffee before taking a sip. “Mh, that is hot. Maybe I’ll wait a bit.” Smiling she continued by finally answering his question. “So the question of how will first of all mean casting away the shackles of Trier. The future is not there. Many nations have hitched their wagon to the Eiffelland-Retalian car. The problem is that it is an ugly caravan that did not have the ambition to do anything in style anyhow. I mean no offense to them, but their goals are not projecting power. They like to look strong, but they really care about business and appearances. First of all Auraria needs to keep Gallo-Germania their sphere of influence. Nothing happens there without Aurarian approval. Make that clear and the rest will follow. Once that is achieved, together we can look towards the Thaumantic. This has forever been seen as an Engellexic domain. It is mismanaged. It is stale. It is nothing the First Republic promised the world it would be. Do not take me for a fool though. My goal is not bombs over Hammersmith. It is about cutting the head from the serpent. SoCRER and NoCRER like to believe they are two sides of the same coin. They are different places in truth. Turning the Thaumantic into our playground will expose this, and they will and shall split up when they recognize that they have different objectives. Arguably, Hammersmith needs Elephant and Castle more than Elephant and Castle needs Hammersmith. When they acknowledge that they have different goals and are different peoples, the Thaumantic is solidly ours.”

She paused. She has unleashed a bit of a monologue and perhaps everything needed to sink in. A lot of what she said had a great deal of conjecture as well, but there was truth to it as well. No one had ever dared to put a wedge between the main players of North and South. It was all just blandly seen as Engellexic, Engellkin. They had their differences though.

“I don’t mean to make this seem easy though. There is a reason for our informal alliance. It may be formal someday perhaps. I cannot imagine us carrying much force without that actually. My people do not exactly trust you yet though... so here we chat over coffee, and you don’t even know where I’m from.”

“Well, well, well. Funny to meet you again. I’m sorry sir, but this woman and I have a past. You see, she’s going to talk up a sweet deal with you, and you’ll feel that you ought to go along. Why not take a step forward in favor of empowering your government with a foreign power? However, she has a game that she’s playing and I’m pretty sure she’s not offered anything real... have you Miss Terry?” The man took a seat with them. He was tall, young, and well built. Clearly he spent time in the gym.

“I’ll be honest with you sir, I’m not going to give you my name either. But I’m sure she has offered an alliance with you. I plan to offer you the same thing. I believe that she’s selling you on being proactive, maybe trying to do something silly with your Navy. I think, the real strategy is separating the Engellkin from the Engellex. Think about it? They are the wildcard. They don’t have to jump on board anything they don’t want to. So make them not want to. The goal should be to oriented the Engellkin world against itself. They’ve already done a great deal of the work themselves. We should amplify that.” He smirked, “I’m going to grab a coffee and take a seat with you guys if you don’t mind?”

The man laughed, picking apart one of the magdalenas.

“You know, there a number of Aurarians who would identify our greatest enemy as carbohydrates,” he mused “Appearances are oh so very important.”

He took a sip of his coffee before continuing.

“Germania is a lost cause,” he spoke after some silence “Trier was the last wall of defense against an all-powerful Rurikgrad Pact that, at any moment, could have steamrolled through the Eiffellanders. All it took was seven days for the status quo to collapse. Now, in their defeat, they have turned their attention to the all-important task of building high speed rail networks. The Eiffellanders are so impassioned by not upsetting anyone that they are incapable of leadership. Dreadful.”

He picked another Magdalena.

“So, you want me to go back to my government, convince it to lay dominion over the Gallians and the Germanians and create a rift in the Engellexian Republic that would surely cause the Thaumantic to rupture. In chaos is opportunity, I suppose. Countries do not do things out of the goodness of their hearts. I cannot imagine you’re here because your government admires the Aurarians. What do you get out of all of the Aurarians’ hard labor?”

Before the woman could answer, a man approached the table. Without introduction he began speaking. Yet another courtier, but the puppet masters of this individual at least had the foresight to send a tall, young, and well-built man.

“I had no idea this café was so popular for government operatives,” the man said “I must say I have been having a delightful conversation with…Miss Terry. Tell me, Miss, would the company do us well or would you recommend I send the lad on his way?”

She raised an eyebrow, “He’s entitled to his space, and his own mission I’m sure. I do not care for his company, but I’m afraid the company you keep is your own perogative.” She gave the newcomer a bit of a stink eye. He seemed to know a bit of what they were talking about, and this irritated her slightly.

“Señor, the people I represent only stand to gain a partner. You will have our support from the background, as we only wish to see this world that we envision come to fruition. At the best, it would mean that we dominate the west in tandem. At the worst, we have created another pole in our multipolar world. When the time is right, I would be able to reveal myself and those who I represent. We do not wish to get involved so publicly until we know that Solis can be trusted to have our partnership taken seriously.”
