In the cold, wet Frisian rains that were frequent in the Spring, Prime Minister Friso Dijkstra waited for his counterpart from the Kingdom of Franken. Relations has been strained during the Military Regime but now with the restoration of the Prince and Constitutional rule, this could be a chance to restart historically warm ties. Both states were originally part of the Holy Germanic Empire, both states has rebelled over the religious and political tyranny of the Empire. While Franken has stayed with the teachings of Luther, Fryslân had followed the reformed teaching of Calvin. However, they were all Protestants then so Fryslân was an ally then and hopefully they could learn to support each other now. With the Prince being out of the country, the Palace was available for talks. Friso could never get over how much he enjoyed the Palace. It was stately but not grandiose; imposing but muted; in a word...extremely Frisian and Calvinist. The advance team at the gates radioed ahead that the delegation from Franken had arrived. The nerves were racking on Friso, this was his first state visit received and first time he would meet with a European head of government. His heart was beating quickly.

"Slow down, Friso", he thought to himself. "Just stand up and keep straight and you will make it", he reassured himself. Friso Dijkstra was of humble roots as a ironworker under the Military Regime and only came to power due to a strange twist of fate. Being the harbourer of the returned Prince and leader of the revolution that pulled down the Military Regime of General Bootsma. A brutal and militaristic regime, Friso hoped this would be the rebirth of
Fryslân on the world stage.

Antoon Troelstra, the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister whispered in his ear about who was who and the state of government and politics in Franken. Just final preparations. Friso hoped they would get the trade deal and a deal on exclusive Frisian-Franken maritime control of the Western Sea (Westlik See). He straightened his tie and waited for his guests under his black umbrella.

OOC: The Western Sea is the small sea that is contained by
Fryslân and Franken at its mouth.

In times of electoral campaigns you had to tread carefully on the thin line between your party agenda and the nation's agenda as a head of government who sought re-election. Despite the poll numbers suggesting Graf Solms' Christian People's Party (CVP) would be able to secure its absolute majority once more, the Ministerpresident wanted to ensure to score some points in Frysia. With the demise of the military junta there was the potential for a fresh start. This was ever so necessary due to Engellex trying to woo Frysia too. There was no way the Engellexic ought to be permitted to crawl one step nearer to Franken's shores. In his virtual suitcase o' political treats Graf Peter Solms brought a wide range of lucrative offers, ranging from naval deals to the modernisation of road and communication infrastructure. Of course he had been carefully briefed about the status quo within the principality. With both states being proud monarchies there was also always the possibility of "encouraging" young scions of the royal houses to ponder the idea of a mutually beneficial marriage. This was to be the Ministerpresident's joker.

Altogether Franken's delegation included several senior representatives and staffers of the State Chancellery and emissaries of Franken's top notch companies who were naturally interested in exploring the opportunities in a recently re-opened country. Before the customary inspection of the guard of honour Graf Solms exchanged some pleasantries with Prime Minister Dijkstra, hoping to thaw the ice. Although the Franconian earl could easily tell his Frisian colleague was quite excited, he also sensed there was a lot of work to be done. Whilst Franken was the shiny large beacon across the western sea, the Franconian leader needed to avoid to demonstrate a too self-confident, too arrogant, demeanour.
