During that conference, they re-iterated that "safety and the environment are matters we take very seriously", and that "we will never deliberately breach any legislations on that". "Due to our very high quality, safety and environmental standards, the Warreic concerns about our cars took us by surprise. We thoroughly test our cars and impose stricter limits upon us than we are legally obliged to; therefore, we have all confidence in the quality, safety and environmental properties of our cars. However, if there is really an issue with our cars, it has to be solved. We have a team of technicians ready to travel to Warre and investigate the matter there. We also call upon the Warreic WIRD to send us a list of the problems they found. Furthermore, we will retest all our car models to even higher limits than we used to do. Every design problem we find will be solved by us. Finally, we invite all journalists with press accreditations of whichever country in the world to visit our testing facilities at a day they desire, during our office hours. Eiffellandian car brands and Eiffellandian government formulate proposal for Warreic Government

In a joint press conference of the CEOs of the Eiffellandian car brands, Minister of Transport and Public Works Roland Rheinfeld and Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Habil Ariel Rubinstein published their proposal to the Warreic government to solve the problem of traffic unsafety in Warre. The cause of the problem was described as follows: "From a technical point of view, our cars are good. The unsafety issue is not caused by technical problems in our cars. The only issue is, that apparently motorists drive faster with our cars than the road situation and traffic allow, possibly because the velocity of the car feels to be lower than it actually is."
The CEOs mentioned three ways to handle that:
  1. A speed limiter limiting the speed of the cars to the highest speed limit applicable to Warreic roads.
  2. A beep signal that indicates that the motorist is driving too fast.
  3. A technique that reads the speed limit from the traffic signs and the layout of the road, and projects the speed limit on a screen on the dashboard. This technique can also be based on GPS-data indicating on which road the car rides.
Also a technique developed by Raimer was mentioned: This technique turns the bonnet into a kind of bouncy cushion upon a collision with a pedestrian. The Eiffellandian car brands are willing to build all these techniques into their cars for the Warreic markets, but only if they are turned into obligatory accessories that all car brands active on the Warreic markets have to build into their cars, otherwise the prices of Eiffellandian cars will become too high on the Warreic markets.

Minister Rheinfeld indicated the following: "Eiffelland may have the reputation that everything is allowed on its roads, but that is definitely not the case. We do have speed limits in built-up areas and on roads that are not motorways. And we enforce them. Furthermore, we strongly enforce our laws regarding driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs." He mentioned the following measures the Warreic government could take:
  1. Permanent unmanned speed cameras at potentially dangerous locations (e.g. crossings, small roads with many curves, roads along rivers or canals, roads in the mountains), along roads in built-up areas and along roads near schools. The Retalian company Ratsomesser is specialised in this kind of cameras and can advice the Warreic government.
  2. Making an education on traffic rules and responsible behaviour in traffic as well as a practical car driving education are obligatory before being allowed to take an exam for a drivers licence. This is already the case in Eiffelland.
  3. A penalty point drivers licence. In Eiffelland, motorists get penalty points for traffic law violations. When a motorist obtains 12 penalty points, he or she is not allowed to drive a car for two years, and after that has to take a new drivers licence exam, complete with the obligatory preceding education (see point 2). The penalty points are valid for two years. A motorist can cut off four penalty points by following a voluntary education course on responsible motorist behaviour. The traffic fines are generally not really high (apart from those for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs), but the penalty points hurt.
  4. The possibility to oblige motorists caught while driving under the influence of alcohol to only drive a car equipped with a breath testing device that blocks the engine from starting when it detects alcohol in the driver's breath. The procedure in Eiffelland is the following. Driving under the influence of alcohol is not an offence, but a crime. The definition of driving under the influence of alcohol is driving with a breath alcohol concentration of more than 0.088 mg/l, or more than 0.2 promille alcohol in the blood. The minimum punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol is 1000 Eiffelland Mark; the maximum punishment is the choice between losing the drivers licence for two years (after which a new drivers licence exam is needed) or during two years being only allowed to drive a car equipped with a breath testing device that blocks the engine from starting when it detects alcohol in the driver's breath. It costs 3500 Eiffelland Mark to build this equipment into your car, and then you pay a yearly fee of 1000 Eiffelland Mark rent of the equipment.
  5. High punishments, including loss of the drivers licence for two years (after which a new exam is needed), for driving under the influence of drugs.

Minister Rheinfeld indicated that Ratsomesser also produces equipment to test drivers on alcohol or drug use.

Minister Dr. Habil Rubinstein repeated that the Warreic ban on Eiffellandian, Retalian, Occitanian and Serenien car brands "led to reputational damage to those car brands that was totally uncalled for. The government of Warre should at least apologise for this, in such a way that the reputational damage is repaired. We are more than willing to help making roads in Europe safer, but this problem could and should have been made public in a more sensible way than the Warreic government decided to do." He also indicated that the ban on Warreic cars in Eiffelland remains in effect until Warre lifts the ban on Eiffellandian, Retalian and Occitanian cars.

Meanwhile, General Aliswiller from Retalia also indicated that Retalia will ban Warreic cars until Warre lifts the ban on Eiffellandian, Retalian and Occitanian cars.

The Empire of Azraq has announced plans to double tourism numbers over the next ten years, as the Azraqi Imperial Tourist Board (AITB) seeks to capitalise on the recent conflict in Gallo-Germania and outbreak of disease in the Occident.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, AITB chief executive Asad Magan Cilmi said the "advent of new transportation technologies", "geopolitical uncertainty caused by recent conflicts" and the "emerging Occidental health crisis" were creating opportunities for emerging tourism market such as Azraq.

"Tourism is also in fact an export and will play a huge role in diversifying the Azraqi economy," he continued, before listing potential attractions within Azraq that could attract overseas visitors, including the country's diverse wildlife, unusual cuisine and varied history.

However international travel experts warn much needs to be done to make Azraq a more attractive destination, including reducing visa requirements, improving the safety record of airlines and tour operators as well as modernising the country's image more generally. "Don't expect people to be flocking to Azraq in droves anytime soon," says one hotelier, "the sand dunes may be cool but the bureaucracy less so."

Premier Jaroslavas today announced the decision of the Latgalian-Wendland cooperative to finally open the markedly liberal markets of Rigustad to foreign competition. Initially closed purely to internal companies, the Rigustad Economic Zone is seen as an attempt on the part of the Northern government to liberalize their economic markets through capital means. Already established with special trade and tourism laws, the port-side and historic city is the former capitol of the Kingdom of Latgalia-Wendland, center of much scientific thinking throughout the centuries. The city is also notable as the only city in the Northern Cooperatives to permit brothels. Tourism permits have also stepped up issuance to the boreal countryside destination, notable for its beach life during the short summer period in the North.

Premier Jaroslavas stated firmly that foreign markets which have demonstrated hostility to the Northern Cooperative's independence will not be permitted to conduct business or establish relations with companies within the NCU, markedly pointing at the Justosian government as an example.

The Himyari National Congress, known commonly as the Hyenas in Natalian politics have managed to win the parliamentarian election and with it to break the series of Democratic Assembly government that were leading Natalia continuously for the last 25 years.

While the DA, commonly known as the Hippos, have managed to create a stable pro-business environment which in the last quarter of the century has truly made Natalia one of the countries which tops on the list of ease doing business with. But in the last ten years, the country has witnessed the rise of inequality, with the poor people becoming poorer and with townships, the famous already Natalian poor suburbs appearing around many of the biggest coastal cities.

The victory of the Hyenas has shown that the people has voted to reverse this trend, probably as a way to avoid the huge innequalities already seen in Beautancus and in the Engellexic Republic. Even so, the Hyenas have never been friends of foreign corporations which have moved to Natalia mostly because they had to pay little to no taxes, but instead of creating the huge number of jobs the Hippos were promising, they only moved their headquarters to Natalia, to enjoy the tax haven.

The markets panicked as the Hyenas have won the elections and are now promising to reintroduce the 12% income tax and raise the VAT back from 10 to 15%. Mostly because of this, the Natalian Pound has took a hit and its value has fallen from 3.33 euromark to a NAP to 3.1 euromarks.

Analysts believe that even so, the promises of the Hyenas aren't deal breakers, especially comparing them with the Justosian and Aurarian budgets and many are even asking if the Hyenas will actually really deliver and respect their promises or not. They expect the NAP to return to its normal value after some weeks, when the post-election hysteria will have calmed down.

Share prices in the Engellexic shipping sector have tumbled dramatically as the situation in Vesper, Cantignia, continues to develop into a full-blown crisis. Although virtually no details of the incident are available - still, the market turbulence is expected to increase.

A public news statement was just released by the Lloyds of Dulwich Investment Institute (LoDII) saying, the Thaumantic Ocean Area is a vital geographic-economic arena for the industry and services of the Engellexian Republic. It is clear that some sort of crisis situation continues to develop, with some rapidy, as governments across Europe continue to question the situation and hazard of what they do not know in Vesper, Cantignia. The Southern Kingdom of Justosia has managed to do something that many of the militarists all over the globe might see as a victory, while the rest of the experts, tired of war, especially after the 7 day one, see as an unnecessary waste of money.

The Defence Readiness One Program which has took monopoly over the political and even foreign affairs discourse in Justosian politics have been described by many as a gargantuan project which is consuming an unnecessary amount of resources from the Southern Kingdom and might push its 30 million population into poverty.

While the program has started many years ago, the disruptions in the Justosian economy that took place this autumn is a clear sign that the resources and capital initially diverted to this project have been depleted. Why else would the economy end up being overtaxed, and some industries also nationalised?

Adding more taxes to the economy has offered the government the necessary capital to push for the finalisation of the first two carriers, but in the long run it created grave problems for the country. The over taxation, together with the nationalisation of the automotive industry have made the Justosian markets very volatile, as the nationalisation has literally broken the social contract, as private ownership was violated. Investors don't have now the courage to invest in the Justosian market, as they don't feel their capital is safe from Avalon.

At the same time, the taxes produced a significant price hike in the commodities the people needed on a daily basis so it can be clearly seen that the prosperity of the people has been sacrificed for this project. The government motivates this repeating again and again that it is their right to defend themselves, and builds on the idea of a country under siege from communist invaders. Only the future can tell if the people accept having their prosperity sacrificed and companies their profits axed for the Defence Readiness Plan.


Recent developments in Avalon seem that the government too understands that this might not be the way to go forward and as a response, only after a few months, they axed all the tax hikes and even reduced all tariffs towards all imports. This will only bring them more and more problems. Now with taxes raised and then lowered on a monthly basis, investors really see Justosia as a quagmire where taxes and laws are changed on a daily basis that is really transforms it into a land of uncertainty at the whim of the government.

The recent tariff drop will make matters even worse for the Justosian producers, as their produce will not be competitive with extremely cheap imports especially mass produced goods made in Touzen, Xinhai, Mazidia or Azraq.

JNN has recently stated that the king was allegedly told the minister of finance to "Fix the economy, of I will fix you," which proves that in the end, the Justosian economy is approaching a catastrophic abyss and it is ready to do the plunge with the help of governmental incompetence, which has been recognised even by their monarch.

The government proclaiming victoriously that it managed to complete the Defence Readiness One plan even if it managed to build only two of the three carriers it entailed, shows that yet another suspension of the plan might be on, as the country struggles to find capital to build the last carrier. The carriers build by the Justosians cost around 3 billion EM to build. Adding the cost of the sailors, the support ships and and the crew of around 5,000 men, it would bring to a staggering cost of 600,000 EM per day to keep a carrier group afloat. This really makes the Justosian project be seen as a white elephant that is ready to destroy them economically.

The Federal Investment Corporation buys around 40% of the shares of the CHC

Thando Mtolo, the Chairman of the Natalian Federal Investment Corporation has announced that the corporation has bought shares of the CHC worth of 5 billion Gulden. The FIC is a state owned company that has been created in the late 1980s in Natalia in a bit to restart the industrialisation process in the country, as the state was passing through an economic crisis brought on by deindustrialisation of the economy.

The role of the company is to create jointly owned companies with private investors and to act as a representative of the state in the said companies. The profits the FIC has created through them have been sent the money into a national fund that has helped pay of the education and healthcare system which gave Natalia one of the best welfare systems in Himyar.

It is unknown as of yet why did the FIC decide to invest such a sum, which in EM means around 500 million, to buy shares and save a company that has been declared by many by now as living its last moments. The lack of diplomatic representation of the military regime in Loago, the end of the PACFOR mission, the promised bailout from Dun Eidyn never coming and the military successes of the People's Liberation Army, the armed wing of the PFLL have made the Caledonian Himyari Company bankrupt. It is believed that this buyout of CHC shares by the FIC is what would save the company from defaulting and with that save the economy of Loago, especially the parts of the country under the National Unity Government from being pushed into an economic crisis of biblical proportions and unemployment going far into double digit numbers.

It is considered that the buying comes in the context of the opening of a second Permanent Diplomatic Mission in Maseru, with a Natalian ambassador returning to the capital city after an absence of more than 5 years. At the same time, it is believe that the buyout of around 40 to 50% of the stocks of the CHC comes after the Engellexic Trading Company, a suzerain over the Otalina Sovereignty neighbouring Loago has shown interest in the CHC. If the real reason it to keep Engellexic influence away, the move is consistent with the major policy of the H3 nations to keep away from Himyar foreign actors or at least to minimise their influence.

The Azraqi Imperial Investment Authority (AIIA), the sovereign wealth fund of the Azraqi Empire, is reportedly considering purchasing remaining available shares in the Caledonian Himyari Corporation (CHC) as geopolitical manoeuvring breathes new life into the once nearly bankrupt company.

The rumours follow the Natalian Federal Investment Corporation acquiring a 40 percent stake in the CHC, injecting €M500 million into the troubled business, which has suffered hugely as a result of the ongoing civil war in Loago, where the CHC was primarily active.

Analysts agree the move, which massively inflated the market value of the CHC, was driven by a desire to keep Engellexic interests out of Loago and flush the CHC with some much needed cash.

"The CHC isn't just your average private company," explains Erasto Ibraahin Xirsi of Himyar-Implaria Bank, "it is a non-state actor responsible for vast amounts of infrastructure in Loago. If the Engellexic trading companies emerged as leading shareholders they would become major players in the former Caledonian colony."

Yet with Loago and Azraq bordering each other, there are now concerns in Jugol that Natalia will decide the future of Loago. "Natalia and Azraq see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues but ultimately the Azraqi establishment views Loago as within its immediate sphere of influence," says one Azraqi newspaper columnist who asked to remain anonymous.

The AIIA refused to comment when asked by AP Business Wire about potential equity in CHC, describing its investment decision-making process as "confidential".

However some have cast doubt on whether the AIIA would risk ploughing money into the CHC. "Its a spent force... Azraq could find other ways of getting what it wants in Loago," suggests an Azraqi banker who also asked to remain anonymous.

Others believe the AIIA, although ostensibly an independent body, may be acting at the behest of Azraq's left-wing government. "Anti-colonialism is a key plank of this administration's foreign policy... The AIIA may be taking orders from above," argues Erasto Ibraahin Xirsi.

The Treasury Commissar of the Serenien Government has announced that a massive deal has been concluded on behalf of the Protectorate of Occitania with representatives of two Fleurian companies, namely the Vinci and Altair corporations, to undertake key infrastructural projects in the war damaged cities of Almezde, Caloza, and Pertu, assisting several Serenien companies already engaged in the reconstruction efforts in Western Occitania's key urban centers. Experts in the field estimate that the infrastructure projects that the Fleurian companies will engage in are designed to better improve the management and administration of the city, as well as provide additional housing units for the civilian populace, which continues to face displacement even six months after the end of hostilities.

The cities of Almezde, Caloza and Pertu, along with Lions, have emerged as major population centres for the internal refugees of Occitania following the war, as many of the northern cities have been ravaged by the intensity of the Serenien military operations in displacing the Occitan military. Hence, the cities are seeing massive investment from the Villesen government to ensure that housing schemes and normal life is provided for displaced northern citizens in the four southern cities, as the northern reconstruction shall take much longer.

In addition to housing schemes, the Fleurian companies are to work in congress with the city administrations in planning the developments and extensions for the cities to cope with the changing demographics of West Occitania.

The Serenien Government also announced that a trade agreement had been signed between the two governments to allow for enhanced trade, which would be worth up to four billion livres, in the form of tariff reductions and incentives over a range of goods specified in the agreement. At the same time, the Presidency announced that upon direction from the Premier, the President had signed the Diplomatic Convention initiated by Fleur as a bilateral treaty between Serenierre and that country.

It is expected that Premier Elisabeth Martinique would be undertaking an official visit to Fleur in the near future, however no date is specified at present.

The Rocamero Geothermal Plant and Natalian Re-Industrialisation

In the applause of the crowds, the President of the United Provinces of Natalia, Sabina Dora Iniesta Lopez, usually known only as Sabina Iniesta has cut the ribbon to the newly built Rocamero Geothermal Plant. It is a stepping stone in the process which the Hyena government of Natalia is calling the "Re-Industrialisation" of the country.

The move towards the service dominated industry has left many parts of Natalia in a state of economic disarray, as much of the country's proletariat has been left without much of their jobs when the economy liberalised in the aftermath of the fall of the last military regime in 1992 as companies preferred to move to countries where labour was cheaper, like Azraq or Rio de Oro, or simply disappeared as they went bankrupt without the support of the state.

The event which gave an image to this whole process was the closing of the Cussian owned Beckett Steel Mill, which had a tradition of over a century of steelworks, but in the chaotic years of the 1990s it succumbed to debt, strikes and lack of governmental support.

The idea of Re-Industrialising Natalia, gravitating more towards the return of heavy industries in the country as been a milestone for the support the Partido Azul (Hyenas) has offered to the Federal Investment Corporation as a way of rejuvenating Natalian industry. As of yet, it is considered that Natalia is too dependent on the export of raw goods and services, leaving it vulnerable to foreign disruptions in the economic cycle, such as the Gallo-Germanian War.

The main element that stopped the plans of Re-Industrialisation was the poor state of the electrical infrastructure. It has been stated by until recently, the Natalian electrical network wouldn't cope to high energy users like a steel mill the size Beckett was. The government, together with the FIC have thus set up plans starting from the last year, to improve the output of electricity.

Together with help from low-interest loans from Auraria, the FIC have financed the building of the Puerto Sur windfarm and the Mzuzu windfarm, which were completed both in late autumn last year, both producing a total of 1,700 MWs. The Rocamora Geothermal Plant uses the volcanic activity that creates the thermal and caustic eponymous lakes to create electricity and as it has been completed this January, it is the biggest geothermal plant in Europe, being expected to create over 850 MWs.

As of yet, the Partido Azul is delivering on its promise of Re-Industrialisation as it created a program of no-interest loans for companies that expand or for start-ups, through the FIC, to help the Natalian economy expand and the biggest support as of yet has been received by the Sodan SA, car factory which only last week has opened a new factory in Bahia Azul, creating 300 new jobs in the Rozvian town. This program and the support received by the trade unions make President Iniesta one of the most popular Natalian politicians in the last 50 years.

West Occitania explores alternative revenue streams to shore post-war development

The Protectorate of Occitania, which is commonly called West Occitania, has recently seen its domestic civil administration take over from the military government in a number of areas. The newly instituted Central Secretariat serves as the executive of this young country and has been involved in a number of revenue generating schemes. As the post-war recovery continues to lag, on account of West Occitania's inefficient agricultural sector, the Central Secretariat has been in talks with financial institutions in the Serenien city of Monserans and the Bezonvaux city of Tremere to provide strategies to raise capital.

One such policy that seems to have found favour among the bureaucrats of the Central Secretariat is the adoption of tax haven status and banking secrecy status which would provide tremendous advantages to Serenien banks which are otherwise tightly regulated by the State Bank of Serenierre and the Competition Commission of Serenierre.

However some experts have warned that while the policy may shore up the finances of West Occitania, the corollary of the same would be opening the country up to illegitimate interests, especially Long Sea criminal syndicates which may take advantage of the largely unregulated sector. Airline Companies Receive Settlement Over Airspace Closure

The Lord Master-General of the Witenagemot, Lord Elphias Sigrid, confirmed today that charges against the Engellexian Republic Parlement, over airspace closure, were rescinded by a number of airline companies, after a settlement was reached between them that will prevent further legal action against Parlement.

Addressing journalists at the Witenagement, Lord Elphias Sigrid, who sits on the Lords Master-General's Council with an administrative jurisdiction for overseeing the process of this significant commercial case, confirmed that CAHTAS (Camden and Himyar Territories Aerial Services), EANEAS Republic Airways (Engellex and Northern Europe Aerial Services), Thaumantican Airline, Liberty Thaumantic, Penny Flyer, Penny Wings, West Engell Airlines, and Culebria Airlines have cancelled all pending litigation against the Engellexian Republic Parlement after settlement terms were agreed yesterday evening. Details of the settlement will of course remain confidential between those parties involved.

Legal opinion in Dulwich, circulating in the local media, agrees that for such a swift resolution to have been secured, the settlement must involve substantial compensation from the Engellexian Republic Parlement, with educated estimates believed to put the figure at a value of more than five billion pounds.

In a press conference called shortly after the announcement was made the Lord Master-General, the Lord Attorney-General, Lady Wulviva Geddes made a statement to clarify the position of the Council of the Republic, saying that while a settlement has been agreed upon yesterday evening between Parlement and those airline companies, the position of the Council of the Republic has not changed on the matter of airspace closure.

The circumstances surrounding the events that demanded the closure of our sovereign airspace, the events that sustained that closure for the prolonged duration that occurred, resulting in the financial losses received by the settled companies, remain classified. The Council of the Republic is nonetheless pleased that a mutually pleasing settlement has been achieved.
