NEW HEALTH FEARS FOR MARIANNE AS DOCTORS CALLED TO RESIDENCE

Braunschweig, 5 February

Concern is mounting for the health of Duchess Marianne of Brunswick following reports of an unscheduled visit by medical staff last night. A team of doctors from the Universitätsklinikum was seen entering the Ducal Residence shortly after 2 am this morning, prompting speculation that the octogenarian monarch may have suffered a second stroke.

In a brief public statement issued this morning, officials confirmed that medical opinion had been sought but described the visit as "precautionary".

GOVERNMENT REJECTS INTERNATIONAL GENOCIDE RESOLUTION

Augsburg, 5 February

The Government will not accede to a proposed resolution against genocide, it was announced today.

The International Resolution on Genocide was sponsored by the Republic of Carentania in the wake of recent events in Himyar and has already been signed by eight other countries. However, the Government has opted not to follow suit, citing concerns with the legal implications of several of the proposals.

"His Majesty's Government retains little sympathy for states that wilfully betray their god-given obligations to care for their people," explained Minister-President Schreck in a statement to the Landtag. "But when a group of states asserts the right to set standards of behaviour and then to hold others to those standards, the implications of such an assertion upon national sovereignty are very serious indeed and cannot be ignored, no matter how well-meaning the original intention."
