The Stavka categorically denies any rumors regarding the operation of Union naval assets at this time anywhere west of Sinhai.

Regards,
Admiral Nikolai Sarkisov,
Deputy Chief of the Supreme Command for the Navy

OOC:You do realize that the deployment wasn't announced, and that as nuclear subs the two boats will pretty much be submerged for most of the time, right? Though it would be still possible for some Breotonian sonar guy to pick up a trace from a Serbovian boat and identify the signature as Serbovian that might be a bit in the realms of chance.

OOC: I overlooked that they were submarines, I'm sorry. I wrote that while distracted and I was trying to make sure I didn't include reference to Engellex's subs but I overlooked yours. I think my military might have knowledge that they're about somewhere but they wouldn't want you to know so the press would not have been informed. I'll remove the reference as it was a mistake.

  • Aresura Situation - The Government is said to be very concerned over the situation in and around Aresura especially as it seems more and more likely that free traffic might be hindered by parties attempting to contain the conflict or prevent outside aid to one or the other side. The Council of Nations is currently considering a partial blockade. In the event that such sanctions are approved by the international council the Royal Navy will be legally allowed to refrain from enforcing the Mantle* in that area. Otherwise the Foreign Office has already issued a statement that interference with freedom of movement will result in punitive and preventative action by the navy.
  • Solaren - The papal theocracy has been quiet for sometime despite large naval deployments in the area by nations which might possibly include Breotonia. Foreign Office and MoD both caution that it may only be a matter of time before Solaren continues its previous threatening actions but remain hopefully optimistic that a disaster was averted by the development of an organized from led by the EDF.
  • Strange Sigh of Relief - Across the nation and the world an inexplicable and universal feeling of contentedness and relief swept over populations as if somewhere, perhaps in another reality, a real prick had just been put down. Sociologists and conspiracy theorists alike point to a similar phenomenon that occurred on April 30, 1945.

  • Bantyr/Northern Council Suffer as Trade Dispute Continues - Worldwide markets had experienced a flurry of negative activity as Bantyric officials announced the seizure of Northern Council properties, totaling over 120 billion pounds (200 billion Northern Dollars). While Northern Council states saw a sharp drop in confidence and declining share values in affected corporations and industries Bantyr suffered a devastating impact on its import/export markets, a currency crisis, and a fire sale of Bantyric companies traded on international exchanges. The government lost control shortly after and the President Murdoch was succeeded by Vice President Allen Gordon and the cabinet was dismissed. Gordon immediately worked to mitigate the disaster brought on by his predecessor by freezing the domestic exchanges and lifting Bantyric embargoes on Batavie and Vistrasia as a sign of goodwill and an indication that he is willing to negotiate. The next few weeks will determine a great deal about the long- and short-term viability of Northern Council and Bantyric markets.
  • Royal Navy Concerned About - One week ago Suionia threatened to begin seizing Bantyric fishing ships in international waters in response to what the Suionian Council of Nations delegation claimed was over-fishing. The timing of the announcement and the fact that it was made in conjunction with similar admonishments regarding Bantyric seizure of Northern Council property and assets within Bantyr leads many to speculate that this statement is meant to give Northern Council representatives another form of leverage during any possible negotiations with Bantyr over ending the ongoing trade conflict. The Royal Navy has made statements to the effect that they will be obligated, as per Breotish Law, to provide any and all assistance to Bantyric vessels facing incursion by foreign forces. Vice Chief of Naval Operations Clinton Thorne said in an interview of Sunday that they were "reluctant" to become involved in the situation but, "we're bound by Breotish Law and centuries of tradition and duty. Obviously everybody hopes we're not forced to become embroiled in an already dicey situation but we are taking measures should our fears come to pass." He later confirmed that EASTFLEET had been put on alert for possible action.
  • Cashing in on Disaster - Some traders are beginning to pickup increasingly devalued Northern Council and Bantyric stocks as the markets open. Many are convinced that prices will recover overtime leaving them with healthy profits when they trade them back in. One trader was quoted as saying, "I shorted the hell out of the stuff when this whole thing started making me a bundle, now I'm buying it all back up at the bottom and I'm pretty sure I'll be making another." Some Treasury workers have begun discussing the possibility of making arrangements with the cash-strapped Bantyr to use Breotish pounds at high interest for foreign purchases. This is currently speculation though as official statements are hopeful that the trade dispute will be resolved quickly and Bantyric currency might recover enough that it is not necessary to begin using foreign currencies exclusively for imports.

Negative news drives Bantyr/Northern Council panic

Economists and traders are beginning to fear that the continued trade dispute between Bantyr and the Northern Council may cause a long-term economic downturn affecting both the Northern Council and the Celtic nations if the situation does not rapidly improve. Monday morning opened with markets in a frenzy to offload Bantyric and Northern Council assets and Tuesday morning had an equally large flurry of negative activity. Despite initial predictions that the crisis would only have a temporary effect outside of Bantyr and the hardest hit Northern Council business there is growing concern that unless markets are quickly stabilized the damage may not be so tightly confined. As more people fear that this crisis will not be short-lived they offload assets from high risk areas which encourages others to do the same as prices plummet. Based on activity in the major exchanges in Lunden, Nürnberg, Danzig, and Nokanawa since yesterday and through closing today it seems this trend will only continue as selling induces more selling. Trading in Nokanawa has been open for several hours already and the downward trend only seems to be accelerating.

"This is how these panics happen," says Randall Sachs, Professor of Econometrics at the Lunden School of Economics, "a situation that looks risky for investors arises and forces a liquidation of long run assets which then 'confirms' to other investors that the situation is risky and there you have it. It's a self-fulfilling panic." He went on to say that unless drastic steps were taken in the Northern Council and in Bantyr to boost investor confidence things were only going to get worse.

It was expected that Bantyric currency would quickly lose ground following the governments announcements of seizure of Northern Council properties but it was not expected that the Norther Dollar would be experiencing such pressures. As it is the the international currency of the Northern Council is experiencing its first crisis. Long feared overvalued by some currency traders the rapid escalation of the trade disputed has thoroughly tipped the scales against the young Northern Dollar which is losing value against other major currencies on exchanges. Fearing further devaluation most investors are flocking to the Breotish Pound, the Thaler, and gold is seeing record highs as people try to limit their exposure.

When questioned Treasury officials denied that they intend to offload immediately its stores of Bantyric and Northern Council debt but did confirm that they were examining the situation closely and while they wished to refrain from taking action that would further damage those nations they would not put at risk the fiscal interests of the country.

Northern Council announcement leaves investors shaking their heads; Bantyr to default

With Bantyr left in an increasingly hopeless situation and the Northern Council expected to follow unless drastic measures were taken there was confidence that some accord would be reached between the two soon, preferably before markets reopened on Monday. It seems, however, that the Northern Council will continue its hostile policies towards Bantyr and Warre, probably with the aim of extracting humiliating concessions, especially from the already ruined Bantyr. The Northern Council for Foreign Affairs issued a statement earlier today that they would not be ending their embargo on Warreic goods (though a reduction of 50% would take place as "a sign of goodwill"). The alliance would, however, be initiating a formal embargo against Bantyr, replacing Suionia's longstanding 1000% tariff (which was considered a de facto embargo). The alliance is also offering incentives to all states that cut trading ties with the troubled republic with the exception of foodstuffs. While markets are currently closed all indicators seem to confirm that investors will respond very badly to this news.

Randall Sachs, Professor of Econometrics at the Lunden School of Economics, had this to say, "A lot of people are scratching their heads and trying to figure out what the NC hopes to accomplish with this." He went on, "Bantyr has hit rock bottom, there's nowhere for them to go. The Council, on the other hand, has plenty of space to fall. It's like the NC is peering into the chasm that Bantyr just fell down wondering how close it can get to the edge." When pressed for a prediction on what the expect over the next few trading days Sachs was unwilling to give any definitive answers but did say, "If things hold steady from, if there are no more big announcements, when trading opens on Monday I wouldn't be surprised to see a trend of Northern Council debt being dropped, the Northern Dollar falling to it's lowest levels, probably less valuable than every other major currency, these sorts of things. If nothing changes the Northern Council will be in a recession by this time next week." Some economists disagree with Sachs, saying that a definite dip will occur in Northern Council assets and confidence but that a recession would not be triggered. Canvasing of investor confidence, however, has only given the starkest predictions.

Bantyric press has had a big day for announcements. First that, with few exceptions, they would be defaulting on their debt. Domestic investors are still assured of repayment but foreign investors are being left high and dry. With this final blow to confidence it is expected that Bantyr will remain in a state of depression for years or more. Investors hoping to ride the crisis by buying now are left wide eyed at the news, shocked at a sovereign default, dreading when markets reopen on Monday. A source in Shaw Finance, the investment arm of the Shaw-Fujikawa Group, said that the company will have to be reporting nearly a billion pounds (€1.66 billion) in losses following the news. The source went on to say, "I don't know why they did that. I mean, yes I guess I do, but really? It would have been better for them to take out loans from other governments if they could get them. Anything to avoid defaulting. They're [expletive deleted]. Royally [expletive deleted]."

While remaining mostly silent on the matter in hopes of not worsening the situation, the Treasury has announced that roughly £500 million (€830 million) of Bantyric debt was held by the government and is expected to be counted as a loss. An inside source at the Treasury said that, despite no official comment on the matter, when markets reopened the government would begin liquidating its stores of Northern Council debt. This would fit with the expectation that investors will begin selling en masse both Northern Council debts as well as other investments once trading reopened. With already deflated prices all of these sales will be at a loss but nobody predicts the assets to do anything but lose value.

  • Treasury Announces Investment in Bantyr - Following many weeks of rumors that the Treasury was considering active participation in the recovery of Bantyr, either through purchase of national debt or by providing a supply of foreign currencies to deal with the devalued Banc, the Government has announced a plan to make a loan of £60 billion (€100 billion) to the troubled Celtic economy through the purchase of bonds from the Bantyric treasury. Secret negotiations commenced on Sunday and an agreement was not reached until late yesterday evening. Bantyric and Breotish officials discussed at great length the size of the loan as well as the interest rate that would be attached to the securities. Originally the Breotish Treasury insisted on an interest rate in 4-5% range to makeup for the level of risk in the debt. Finally, as a concession to gain favorable taxes and tariffs for Breotish businesses in the recovering Bantyric economy, a rate of 3% was agreed upon. HM Treasury and the Prime Minister's Office both went to great lengths to indicate that this was not a bailout or any type of relief effort but an investment on the part of the Government with the primary aim of earning revenue for the Government and gaining advantage for Breotish business interests.
  • Shaw Financials Purchases Seized NC Assets - In what will undoubtedly be a controversial decision, Shaw Financials, the investment arm of the Shaw-Fujikawa Group, has announced that they have concluded a deal with the Bantyric Government to purchase the former properties and assets of the Northern Council that were seized by the government in the ongoing trade war. The deal, brokered alongside Treasury officials, will entail the purchase of an assortment of assets valued at around £120 billion (€200 billion) for a lump sum of £78 billion (€130 billion). The deal is being partially financed by the Breotish Treasury through a loan to Shaw Financials which otherwise would have been unlikely to amass such a large sum of money at short notice. The fate of the assets is unknown but it is expected that some will be sold off while businesses and factories will be brought online to take advantage of the favorable conditions brought along by new Bantyric policies. A spokesman for the financial giant did comment to say that the move was "in no way political" and that "business is business".

  • Simm Addresses Parliament on Wars/Defense Budget Increase - The past month has seen every corner of Europe gripped by war as the crisis in Oceania only worsens in a continued hostile stalemate and the EDF invasion of the failed and reactionary state of Solaren results in the communist bloc attempting to outmaneuver their northern opponents and seize the future of Solaren. The EDF finds itself in an increasingly tense situation as Engellex launched a highly successful surprise campaign into northern Montelimar and the Lorrainese enclave is assaulted by the Platte Confederation. As if fate demands that all the major blocs in the world be involved in this catastrophe the inaction of the Northern Council's respective governments in the ongoing debt/trade crisis has many analysts fearing that some of the alliance's countries will soon face unrest to civil war level proportions. Prime Minister Simm addressed the House of Commons late last evening on the issues and urged a vote that would grant the Government the necessary powers to overcome these calamities. "These events, these frightening and rapidly spreading events, are not contained nor are the disconnected. We are standing on the precipice of what will, should swift international action not be taken, become a global war. A Great War which will engulf every square inch of the planet." He continued, "Breotonia has become complacent in the political systems of the past century and depended on them to help maintain the Mantle and our security. Our Navy, while the best trained, the best equipped, and the largest in the world, is not powerful enough to force all of these warring nations to respect the Law and the Sovereignty of the Sea." In his conclusion he made a specific request for legislation that would allow the situation to be remedied. I urge the Honorable Representatives to grant the Government the tools it needs to avert crisis. This world is falling apart too fast to let Parliaments and Congresses debate of action. Action must be taken swiftly, it is the only way combat this crisis."
  • Simm's Proposed Legislation - The Emergency Enabling Act which was put forward to Parliament by the Simm Government grants wide ranging powers to the Executive which is traditionally reserved for Parliament. These include the ability to incur expenditures in defense and security without prior Parliamentary approval as well as the ability to initiate preemptive action against another nation without an official declaration of war or infringement upon the Mantle. The total control the Prime Minister would have over defense spending would be compounded by the law passed just following Simm's appointment to the position that allowed a defense budget to be submitted to Parliament to approval with the cost of an item but not the identification of it which removed Parliament (and the Public's) ability to know what the money was being spent on. Early polling data, while inconclusive, seems to be marginally in favor of the Emergency Enabling Act though those against the act are very vocal and have been organizing protests outside Parliament and several other government buildings since the text of the bill became public. It seems that Simm will try and get the act through Parliament as quickly as possible and with a solid Conservative Majority since the previous election even a party-line vote would allow it to easily pass.

  • Shaw-Fujikawa defense contracting services put out a notice to foreign clients that while current contracts would be processed sharp increases in demand have necessitated that the number of future contracts to be accepted will be decreased while production abilities are expanded. The Breotish Defense Ministry and high priority foreign clients such as Touzen and Franken will not be affected say Shaw officials. No word on exactly what increase in orders the company is referring to.
  • Defense Minister Samuel Wells was found dead today in a single vehicle car crash on dangerous country roads near his out of city estate. Authorities report that driver error and poor conditions caused the accident. Wells was a Conservative Party MP and had served in the cabinet since shortly following the death by stroke of the Prime Minister John Wilson. Vice Admiral Ackerson, longtime director for the Assistant Secretary of the Royal Navy, has been appointed by Prime Minister Simm to fill the vacancy following this tragedy.

  • Karlskrona War Crimes - First reported by the Touzen Times, a video displaying criminal acts being perpetrated by Suionian armed forces in occupied Bantyr has gone viral on media sharing and social networking sites like MyTube and Twatter and is now catching the attention of governments around the world. The video, shot with a cellphone based camera by an individual who observed the scenes while hidden in bushes, depicts Suionian soldiers forcing at gunpoint men, women, and children from their residence, some forced through the snow only in underwear, while issuing orders in Swedish. A second clip shows uniformed soldiers physically assaulting an elderly citizen.

The Suionian ambassador to Touzen was summoned to give explanation to the incident but the Suionian government remains silent. The Foreign Office has likewise issued a formal request for a response to the allegations. In an interview Stephen Cohen, professor of International Law at the University of Lunden, said that what had transpired on the video was undoubtedly a war crime. "Civilians cannot be treated in this manner, it is a simple matter of international law, precedent, and universally held beliefs about human rights that what we saw here was a clear example of a war crime, no matter what metric you use." He continued later, "What we have seen over the past year, the economic warfare, the invasion of Bantyr, and now these criminal acts I think these illustrate a clear breakdown of political leadership in Suionia and I think that the recklessness and irresponsibility with which Suionia has acted and the extent to which it has destabilized, both from a security and an economic viewpoint, not just the region but the entire world is very good evidence that sovereignty may no longer apply. You could make a very good case that Suionia literally does not meet the requirements for sovereignty any longer."
  • NextAccess Craze - The world has seen a great number of changes, many of them disastrous, in 2011 but for consumers they might most remember the past year as the year of NextAccess™. The NextAccess RFID tag is the consumer version of a technology long used by the military and recently implemented for government employees that allows for quick identification and information transfer. The applications quickly multiplied in the civilian sector and the manufacturers are eager to take advantage. Increasingly trendy as the chips, implanted beneath the skin of the hand, are used by the rich and famous and are now even appearing in popular television programs and movies.

The abilities of the device are too numerous to count and are increasing everyday. A user can eliminate his or her need for keys, credit cards, and passwords. Houses can be equipped to unlock doors, adjust lighting, turn electronics on or off, and even adjust temperature simply by detecting the presence of the chip. Likewise retailers can now read the chip and apply the charge for a purchase directly to a user's bank or credit account. During the holiday season NextAccess proved itself as a must have item as customers sought to emulate the rich and famous not only in Breotonia but also in Touzen were the product is equally popular. Market analysts are confident of the continued success of this surprising device.
  • Industrial Sector Booming - Despite a continued worldwide economic slump, with government figures predicting a continued 0.5% growth in the next quarter for the national economy, classified as a recession by HM Treasury, the industrial sector of Breotonia is finding it difficult to meet demand. Output seems to be at 100% with some areas experiencing labor shortages as firms expand to accommodate business. Likely the result of government contracts and stimulus investment increasingly businesses are outsourcing work to Touzen and Franken to meet deadlines.

  • Suionian Foreign Affairs Ministry responds to evidence of abuse of civilians in occupied Bantyr after more than a week of public international outrage. Charlotte "Lotta" Öqvist, Suionian Foreign Affairs Minister, made a statement earlier to the press that what had transpired in the now viral video was "abhorrent to the beliefs of our people" and promised that prosecution of those responsible would be undertaken to the "highest level". The Foreign Office, national governments, and international human rights groups have expressed dissatisfaction with the official statement and have already begun lobbying for more forceful action by governments. International legal experts continue to make the case that in light of the globally destabilizing influence of Suionian policies, made with a reckless abandon that has lead to worldwide depression, the collapse of the Northern Council, a war, and now human rights abuses the country has legally renounced any claim to continue acting freely and in the fashion of a sovereign nation.
  • As international rating agencies issue their regular updates to sovereign debt ratings a scandal is now emanating from Wiese. As Springer Investor Services, the highly reputable Danzig-based rating agency, issued it's latest updates Wiese suffered a downgrade in light of unsustainable and unwise budgeting practices as well as continued state direction of all major business interests. The embarrassment erupted as Heinrich Babelfisch, Wieser Foreign Affairs Minister, made a lengthy public statement accusing the independent rating agency of bias with little analysis to accompany the remarks. Shaw-Sterling released figures later in the day, also issuing Wiese a downgrade for the same reasons and having taken into account the threats made by the Wieser government against the rating agency as a sign of irresponsibility and insecurity.

Peter Donavan Interview of King Alexander

What follows is a transcript of an recent interview between Peter Donavan, author and journalist, and His Majesty Alexander, King of Nicosia. For a full video interview and answers to viewer questions and mail visit our website at

DONAVAN: "Thank you Your Majesty for sitting down with us today. Now, many people would agree that ongoing war in Solaren started with Nicosia. The ransoming of Nicosian citizens, the eventual payment for their release, deployment of troops alongside the EDF in Lorraine, maritime interference by Solaris warships, and finally war and the occupation of the Bartholomew Islands. Do you ever consider how you and your government might have done things differently? Were mistakes made or opportunities lost that really stick in your mind?"

HM ALEXANDER: "First, thank you for this interview. It is a pleasure. Nicosia was under attack. Pure and simple. We exhausted every route we could. Look at the road that was taken. We took the long route. We did more than we had to. We came to the international community and almost nothing was done? What could we have possibly done? We had to turn to our allies. Nicosia is a small country. Nobody wanted this war. Nicosia had not declared war in nearly a century. Were there mistakes? Of course. Sending diplomats to sue for peace only to have them killed by Solaris thugs is one. Its a weight I personally take on my shoulders."

DONAVAN: "When news came through that Urban had been killed by Nicosian forces what were your initial feelings?"

HM ALEXANDER: "Well, we have had several reports of him being killed or captured. We even got to his top "stand in". My initial feelings that time were relief. Then it was pure dread that he was still out there."

DONAVAN: "When it came to light that the identity of the casualty had been mistaken you must have a fairly strong reaction?"

HM ALEXANDER: "Yes, of course. It was dreadful. It was one of the worst things my government has ever had to announce. I spent a long time sitting in front of my fireplace listening to Grieg. We will get him. He will be brought to the Hall of the Mountain King."

DONAVAN: "In the beginning the war did not seem to be going very well. Poor performance resulted in a loss of confidence in the EDF and at a time only 11% of Nicosians felt the war was going well. How would you describe your own opinion of the EDF today? Was your trust in the reliability of the alliance truly shaken?"

HM ALEXANDER: "Nicosia has been an EDF member since the early 1980's. We have fostered excellent relationships with the other members. The war could be going better, but obvious outside influences have changed things. The EDF is a friend of Nicosia and Nicosia a friend of the EDF. The EDF unfairly gets a bad rap because of its prosperity and cohesiveness. The cards can't always go your way and this time the hand the EDF got was a bad one. We cannot fold but we can try to split the pot."

DONAVAN: "You and your government were very critical of the international community at the time."

HM ALEXANDER: "Yes, yes we were. Nicosia wanted an international coalition against terrorism. Nicosia wanted nations to come together, EDF and not EDF. We wanted the international community to stand against it and to stand for the very basic rights of a nation state. They failed."

DONAVAN: "Carentania and the RDTO are playing a much larger role in the future of Solaren than anybody anticipated. In the past you've made comments that you do not believe their influence will be beneficial. Do you still feel that way?"

HM ALEXANDER: "Carentania acted unilaterally. We would have gladly welcomed them into our coalition. We would have welcomed them to join us. There was an open invitation to the international community. Their actions of acting independently show their intentions. I feel that they have done nothing but pour gas on the fire of what is growing to be the second Great War."

DONAVAN: "What do you want to see done to minimize the impact?"

HM ALEXANDER: "It is important that Solaren after the war is nurtured. It must not be formed but nurtured. It must be allowed to grow on its own. The criminal is not the Solaris Church but elements of its leadership. It is imperative that the Solaris Church be allowed to continue and that the criminals of the church are brought to justice. To minimize the impact of the RDTO presence is not something that I think can be done. I think we will see long-term repercussions that will hurt the future of Solaren."

DONAVAN: "You gained a rather large amount of international attention, not all of it favorable, when you announced the dissolution of the monarchy. The Nicosian monarchy remains one of the oldest in existence. Your cousin, Nicholas VII was a great supporter of democratic reform, saying in his memoirs that the 'bright future of Nicosia can be even brighter when the people guide the way'. This seems far less radical than your announcement to make a total switch to democracy. What motivated you take such radical action?"

HM ALEXANDER: "The entire world is at a juncture. I chose to take a road. Some think it is radical. Some think I made the decision overnight. It was a long and hard process. I felt I was completing the wishes of King Nicholas. My small nation has been a rock where the seas of change and tradition meet, froth, and occasionally storm. I think the interest in Nicosia's decision really shows the problems of the world. A nation chooses a different form of government and suddenly an international uproar. A nation is attacked repeatedly and begs for help and the world murmurs."

DONAVAN: "Were you disappointed with the results of the national referendum that resulted in a constitutional monarchy instead?"

HM ALEXANDER: "I am a King and they are my people. I am here to serve my people. My personal feelings on this matter are not important. The results were what they were. We still have taken a new road and we are going down it with enthusiasm."

DONAVAN: "Did you ever consider that should your original proposal have gone through, and considering you only ascended to the throne in 2011, that you could quite possibly have had the shortest reign of any Nicosian monarch?"

HM ALEXANDER: "Well that is true. I guess I hadn't thought of it that way. Nicosia's future may be among the most uncertain. As with Nicosia, so goes me. We will see what the future has in store."

News in Brief

  • A wildfire in Enfield Forest, located between Lunden and Uttoxeter, is only now coming under control as emergency services and the Naval Air Arm continue to douse the flames and sequester still burning areas from fresh fuel. The fire, which started sometime around one in the morning, originated in a section of the forest which experts believe is not particularly predisposed to such activity. When this is considered alongside the normal levels of rainfall there is suspicion of the blaze being man-made and, perhaps, a case of arson. Once the area has been fully secured and the situation brought under control investigators will begin a more rigorous examination.

Early detection of the wildfire was provided by satellite monitoring air space above southeastern Breotonia. The area is still largely undeveloped but contains many large estates. While no deaths have been reported in conjunction with the fire there has been significant property damage, totaling millions of pounds. In a joint address by the fire services of Lunden and Uttoxeter alongside the naval air service the public was informed that while there are still isolated fires not yet extinguished the situation is under control and they expect to be able to report a total end to the incident within a matter of hours.
  • The situation in the Long Sea continues to be uncertain following the sinking of the Tien Hau, a Yujiner merchant vessel. In a rare press conference, Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood expressed his great dismay that the Royal Navy did not have the opportunity to intervene in accordance with the Mantle to protect the vessel. A personal apology was issued by Hood to the Yujiner Government with instructions to pass on his condolences to the families of those lost. He further announced that in addition to increased monitoring by the navy every effort will be made politically to create a safe and secure environment in which international trade and commerce could continue without impediment.
