The windows overlooking the inner courtyard let in the warm sunlight into the office of the Foreign Minister. The, ten feet high, windows were originally from, the now destroyed, Palace of Soissons. They were truly a work of art. Built from the finest wood that could be found in Belmont, the windows had been in rooms where the course of history was made. And now it would see the first government to government talks between Belmont and any LFS member state since the end of the Great War.

The Foreign Minister of Belmont, Jean-Jacques Marcelieu, sat behind his desk waiting for his Wazistani counterpart to arrive for the talks. The talks had been the idea of the seventy one year old and he had pushed hard for them in cabinet meetings. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, he had received the go ahead by Millerand. Marcelieu hoped that these talks would provide Belmont with a contact in the, ultra conservative, LFS. Marcelieu knew these talks were important and he knew he had to play his cards well here.

The phone rang.

"Hello, Marcelieu here." said the Foreign Minister.

"Al-Jabr down in lobby. Deputy Villes is escorting him to the elevator."

"OK"

It was showtime. Marcelieu fixed his tie and stood up and moved to two chairs in front of the massive windows. The meeting would take place with them looking out at the atrium and its garden. It was indeed a beautiful view.
