Now an idea I've had knocking around for a while is a third Burgundian state, one which feels that neither the Kingdom of Neustria or the current personal union between Elben and Bourgogne adequately represents the Burgundian people. Elbens current yellow vest protests could provide a catalyst for such a uprising to occur

I imagine the whole affair being quite haphazard similar to the formation of the Bavarian Socialist Republic with the Republic itself not being particularly long lived.

now I debating whether to make the Burgundian People's Republic Socialist, Democratic Socialist or some brand of Conservative given how Republicanism in Bourgogne has traditionally been supported by the right.

Ideally situated in the blank space north of Bourgogne and Neustria

keen for any input or feedback, particulary in regards to the names of cities and general background of the region.

I mean, I dont have really any formal say anymore but I would tread lightly. Bourgogne briefly had a far right, proto-fascist government. I think you would face a rather unstable state if you took Burgundian lore. Furthermore, because of the Ser-Bur relationship, the people generally were quite anti-communist. The last Grand Duke had to face a lot of public criticism for not confronting communism more aggressively.

That being said, I think it could be an interesting idea. I will dig up so old maps tomorrow and write a brief. This could be a very interesting spin on the former Bourgogne. You'd face particular resistance in a city or two but that is easily dealt with

Don't call it a comeback I've been for years.

Thanks Nicosia">@Nicosia yeah I dont see it being the most stable state, or even lasting very long depending on how things go it could be something of a limited run. But at the least it will add to gallo-germanian lore

A "People's Republic" does not necessarily imply the adoption of an all-socialist system. Even Golden Dawn, the greek neo-nazist party, called for the establishment of a "People's Republic" in Greece. In fact, some aspects of ostmark's political system have been borrowed from Golden Dawn political agenda (such as welfare for the poor). Ostmark is usually placed on the "marxist side" of politics, but there isn't much marxism in Ostmark except for the propaganda and the "visual aspect" (the German Democratic Republic).

The People's Republic of Ukraine comes to mind too and Petliura was anti-communist, same with the Cossacks from the Don and Kuban who used the term People's Republic, but were anti-Bolshevik.

I used the example of the Bavarian socialist republic more as an example rather than a strict vision, certainly the idea of a " White Bourgogne" appeals, and given how IC Republicanism is the domain of the right in Bourgogne. The Peoples Republic could be lead by a Kornilov like figure.

The reason for going left would be mainly to have a different style of Rp than say yhe vsf

Whichever is more plausible in character I suppose

Pretty much the same level of Marxist commitment as Serenierre. Although SRN is more like autocratic Social democracy. I think playing a purely Soviet style communist country can be quite inhibiting.

I think breaking the mould for communist nations is what leads to interesting dynamics. Someone of your calibre, would be interesting to see what you cook up.

So as stated I am in two minds whether to go for a left wing social democratic type republic or a more conservative right wing government. Both have appealing aspects

The left path is interesting on a personal level, as I've been reading a bit about the Bavarian Socialist Republic and the Russian Revolution and being a social democratic/ democratic socialist would make it stand out among its neighbours ( although that being said simply being a Republic would make it stand out from its neighbours).

Now a conservative/ nationalist republic would be more likely to emerge given Bourgogne's history and In my mind at least it gives off a slightly White Russian vibe i.e. " Provisional All Burgundian Government" calling for " Bourgogne, one and indivisible " but that may be just by reading of it.

Sleep over it. As you know, I have tremendous respect for your creativity and I know you really will cook up a great stew. Maybe come up with your own brand of Marxism.

So after quite literally flipping a coin I have settled on a Social Democratic Republic as opposed to a more conservative one, that being said a coup could always happen I suppose.

Just need a city to base the Republic in, somewhere ideally one that is somewhat industrial or has a similar history of left wing support in Northern/central Bourgogne possibly Pillau.

Once I get a location sorted the question remains how the Republic comes into being. One route is a Huey Long type figure, a regional political figure who runs the region like his own fiefdom, someone like this would have the political and social clout to form the Republic essentially on his own. Now this would have some implications over the legitimacy of the Republic and its claims of democracy but hey that's part of the fun.

Another would be that one of the various protests engulfing Elben-Bourgogne takes on a more radical tone and ends up with the protesters rioting and storming the offices of the local government, causing said government to evacuate. As hours go by without any sign of the establishment a committee of various political factions is convened and a republic declared.

Personally I prefer the Huey Long type approach as it adds some depth to the RP and whether or not the Republic is all that claims to be or is it simply more of the status quo.

Honestly, thats going to be interesting. Thats the most religious and conservative area of Bourgogne. But based on the area you have left and the fact that Lans is in Neustria, Pillau is going to be your only real option. Its only about 250,000 people. The region is very rural. Or was.

Yeah the east is Elben-Bourgogne and the west Neustria,so I settled on Pillau having look at your OCC thread , being the most religious and conservative area of Bourgogne certainly makes for a challenge and the heart of the Sprechenland adds another avenue to RP. I'll write a post IC tomorrow.

    Armée Républicaine Nationale

currently the army of the Burgundian People's is still largely non-existent, with some units existing entirely on paper or being severely under equipped. Currently the ARN is composed of these units.

Burgundische Freikorp: Lead by local aristocrat Baron Gustav von Goltz, the Freikorp is comprised of ethnic Germans living in Bourgogne, Pillau and by extension the People's Republic is home to the nations German. The Freikorp was established in part to reaffirm that the native german population of the "Spreckenland" is loyal to Bourgogne. Primarily armed with shotguns and hunting rifles, the Freikorp numbers some 600 men.

La Garde Républicaine: Considered the elite of the ARN, the Republican Guard draws it recruits from those who have either previously served in the Burgundian army or subsequently deserted to the Republic. As such it is much better equipped than the rest of the ARN and has a certain sense of espirit de corp, the Republican Guard consists of close to a thousand men.

L'armée des volontaires du Nord de la Bourgogne: The Volunteer Army of Northern Burgundy is a somewhat anarchic band of militiamen from a variety of factions, who are united only in their dream of a republic. what the VNB lacks in discipline and equipment it more than makes up for in zeal, given the nature of the VNB no one really knows how many men it has under arms or indeed what weapons they have.
