Hello and welcome to CPB Evening News.

Todays head story: the Carentanian Steel and Copper WO. closes down the last coal mine in the Škrip area. The mine that used to supply both the capital area and the city of Cazma with coal for heating and their power plants was officially declared exhausted. Two other mines in the Škrip area experienced the same fate in 2001 and 2007. Back then, experts of the Carentanian Steel and Copper WO. already anticipated the exhaustion of the mine for this year. This marks the end of the coal mining industry in Škrip and many Carentanians see it as a powerful sign for the general trend towards the complete exhaustion of natural ressources in Carentania.

The coalminers in Škrip meanwhile will be forced to either move to an active mining location or seek a new profession. In the Workers Councils of Škrip, everyone is prepared for the 250 comrades in need of a new education. A proposal by the Commissariate for Economic Planning to exclude those above the age of 55 from the need to re-educate or seek a residence in an active mining location has been commonly accepted by the involved councils as well as the Carentanian Steel and Copper WO. Those workers who reached this proud age will be presented with the option of early retirement.

Meanwhile the Commissar for Economic Planning assured the public that there is no imminent coal shortage. According to him, Carentania has created enough capacities in alternative energy solutions that the reduces production in coal will have no effect on the life of the Carentanian citizen. However, he used this opportunity to again stress the importance of a broad debate about the future of Carentanias industry, as more and more deposits within Carentania approach exhaustion.

In other news we will hear about a general decline of violent crime over the past half year, a growing shrimp fishing industry and the trial of the "Nokanawa Four" in Oikawa...

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: as the celebrities for the 90 year anniversary of the Revolutions' Day draw closer, we remember the 9th of November 1919 as the day of the Great Rijekan anti-war strike. Today ninety years ago workers in Rijeka laid down their tools and marched on the parliament to demand an end to the war. Eye-witness report of up to 150.000 people who participated in the mass protest and photographs of that era show the Black Square of Rijeka covered in protestors.

Back then, the Rijekan parliamentary government had led Carentania into a highly unpopular war that had grinded down to a bloody stalemate with its enemies. Poverty in the country was widespread and many lost friends and families on the battlefields. The betrayal of the ruling Social Democrats weighed twice, as the parliamentary government had disposed of the royal family and established a bourgeoise democracy in 1902 for the very same reason: the King had led Carentania into an unpopular and bloody war.

The government in Rijeka reacted to the peace march in 1919 with violence. Police dispersed the protest and arrested hundreds. On the following day a women's march would take place to demand freedom for those arrested. The bloody crackdown on the women's march would spark mass riots and cause the Union of Communist Workers to declare the Council Republic on the 15th of November. To this day, we celebrate the 15th of November as Revolutions' Day.

In other news we will report about environmentalist who try to revitalize the owl populations in the Haemian mountains, a group of Gypsies who tried to pass the bridge to Vrnik with a horse cart and the Commissar for Health will warn us about the potential dangers of the new Influenza strain that has yet to reach Carentania.

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: units of the Revolutionary Navy accuse Marquettean trawlers of unauthorized fishing within Carentanian waters. According to the commander of a fregate tasked with coastal protection several fishing vessels flying the flag of the nation of Marquette have trespassed unto Carentanian waters in search of fishing grounds. Because of the extent and sudden appearance of the vessels the Commissariate for Defence believes these trawlers to act on orders of the same company active in the fishing business.

The Carentanian coastal protection did not engage the vessels after they ignored calls to leave the territorial waters of Carentania, however closely monitored their activities. It seems all trawlers filled their storages with several tons of fresh fish before heading back to Marquette, crossing the strait that seperates the Carentanian peninsula from the central European continent. According to the Commissar for Foreign Affairs, coastal protection had been ordered to let the fishing vessels continue because "no one wanted to cause an international crisis." However, the Commissar stressed that he expects the Marquette government to take the necessary steps to prevent vessels flying their colours to respect the sovereignity of Carentania or Carentania will be forced to engage the vessels.

Fish is an important part of the Carentanian diet and, in difference to other forms of meat, not a rationed good. A decline in population sizes of local species of fish is currently endangering the Carentanian fishing industry and any attempts to take protection measures have so far failed due to the opposing nature of the local states ideologies.

In other news: Intelligence units of the Revolutionary Army and the Agency for Covert Investigations are responding to renewed anti-communist threats by Belmont, Talemantros attacks democracy in an attempt to prevent its citizens from choosing a social-democratic candidate in its next election and Pope Marcus-Clemens II proven gay.

While we are positive no commercial fishing trawlers were in your waters, we will still investigate all fishing and crabbing vessels who were in operation for the last 8 days.

A huge complex of steel pipes and tanks is displayed. Steam is released into the air from a valve and the camera closely invastigates the technological maze before zooming out, displaying the greater view of an industrial complex in the middle of the Carentanian landside. Next to the complex, a huge hole has been dug into the ground, a large open mine with machinery hurrying across the dirt, busy working.

"For decades Carentania has relied on coal. Not only a large portion of its electric energy was based on coal, not only the production of steel was in need of coal. Lacking a reliable source of petrol, Carentania early decided to invest into coal liquidification. Huge factories like these provide Carentania with an expensive replacement for petrol. They allow Carentanian cars to drive without having to rely on less than just slightly oppressive regimes to sell their oil to Carentania. For decades, this has worked for Carentania. An expensive process, but a cheap price for a clean consciousness.

But Carentania is running out of coal. Carentania is seeking alternatives and Carentania wants to grow stronger and wealthier. Coal liquidification is a process that has served Carentania well for many years, but it is also an outdated method that needs to be replaced. Our country must find new sources for its fuel. In a world where the oil deposits are in the hands of fascists and capitalists, Carentania has to find unconvential ways to replace and already unconvential method."

The camera follows a man in a white overall. "This is Professor Vladic," the comment introduces the man. "the geologist is usually teaching at the University of Koper. But today he wants us to show what could be Carentanias future."
Following him through some small hedgerows, Vladic finally leads the camera into a slightly deserted valley. He picks up a ball of dirt from a hole he had dug before and shows it into the camera. It's filled with small black crusts, sticky and dark.

"This is oil-sand. A tar filled sand which could one day allow our cars to drive, our ships to swim and our planes to fly. It's a thick mass with only a distant resemblance to oil, but it consists of hydrocarbons all the like. Oil-Sands are considered an alternative not only to Carentanias dependence on the coal liquidification process, but also to a shrinking petrol supply worldwide. Already a number of countries have begun with the process of extracting the bitumen from the sands and reducing it to a lighter oil that can then be processed in a similiar fashion as crude oil.

It's a real solution for Carentanias problem, but there are a number of obstacles. Simply spoken, Carentania lacks the technology. The coal liquidification process, technicians say, is already a good technological base for the developement of the necessary technologies, but a number of important data is lacking. Companies in the capitalist world who deal with the extradition of oil from tar-sands keep the exact technologies involved a well-hidden secret.

But in the Commissariate for Economic Planning, people are optimistic. A solution to the current problems in the extradition problems, they say, is close to being reached. What exactly that means they are reluctant to explain, stressing however that the construction of a first facility for the processing of tar-sands could begin as early as next year.

If that proves to be true, Carentania would have one worry less for a couple of years."

The documentation fades out with the view of a highway, busy with cars running across it.

We are already unhappy with the harmful effects of coal liquidification on the environment and its use for energy, we are becoming even more unhappy with the use of dirty oil in the form of tarsands to drive the Carentanian economy. We urge the Carentanians to find better solutions for their energy needs and to commit to protect the environment.

I send personal congratulations to our Comrades in Carentania for pursuing this new source of energy. It appears very promising. I wish to propose a system of cooperation in which Batavian and Carentanian scientists work together to make this dream into reality. I invite a high level diplomat from Carentania to visit the Batavian capital, Vlaanderen, to discuss this venture.

Cooperation with enslaved intellectuals of a oppressive state-capitalist system is wholly out of question for us.

Carentania's rejection of co-operation with Europe's workers' and peasants' states in favour of keeping in line with left-sectarian, revionist ideology disappoints Vangala, who will continue to champion revolutionary solidarity.

As a bastion for communism and people of the proletariat, we are most confused by the statement that we are of a capitalist system. Perhaps the editors forgot to look at their sources properly? In either case, our offer to work together with a fellow communist state still stands.

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: after several years of an intense manhunt, the crime investigation group responsible for the case of Stanislav Posanski managed to arrest the alleged leader of a smugglers and black market trade ring. It is speculated that Posanski made millions in foreign currencies with illegal trade with Carentanian products and by exploiting free access goods to trade them for money in monetary economies. Considerable portions of Posanskis black market empire collapsed in 2000 with the computerization of the rationing cards. In the following reshuffle of his activities, Posanski caught public attention and was forced into hiding.

After Posanski went into the underground, the worker councils of Rijeka city tasked a CIG with finding and arresting Posanski so he could be tried for his criminal activities. His illegal trade has harmed to Carentanian economy considerably and deprived many Carentanian citizens of their share of the countries economic output. Furthermore, Posanski hired immigrants without citizenship and paid them for conducting illegal activities which yeiled an even greater amount of money for Posanski. Posanskis network probably took years to be constructed and it's believed his involvement in organized crime also covers drug trade and prostitution.

Earlier this day Posanski was surprised by a number of Guardsmen in a hotel in the suburbs of Rijeka. Posanski was eating breakfast when the Guardsmen entered the hotels restaurant fully armed and with protective gear, arresting Posanski after members of the crime investigation group managed to identify the man at the table as Posanski. He will now face a trial for major capitalist acts, wage-slavery, incitement to criminal acts and fraud. Which councils may send members of the jury is dependant on the area the CIG marks as Posanskis sphere of activity, but it already seems as if the Posanski trial may become one of the biggest in Carentanias history.

In other news we will hear the Commissar for Foreign Affairs comment about IRB attempts to rebuild ties with Carentania and offer to the government of Batavie that an offer for cooperation they made could be "sent to the next All-Workers Congress for discussion". Hehe... During the same press conference the Commissar also commented on a Skansk plead for not pursuing the extradition of oil from tar-sands by pointing to the daily petrol usage in both countries. Apparantly, a far more wasteful economy wants to tell Carentania to reduce its use of fossil fuels even further. But more in the following reports...

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: the Union of Communist Workers, Carentanias strongest labor union, announced its support for actions against the upcoming AGE summit. According to spokespersons of the union, many of their members had been in contact with comrades from AGE states, especially the Levant. Protests against the alliance, their militarist nature and their violent defense of Capitalism are likely to be expected throughout Europe, but especially at the location of the summit. According to the UCW, a broad alliance from Council-Communists over Anarchists to Environmentalists is in the process of being forged.

The actions of the "Alliance for a Greater Europe" have been a target for constant attacks from the political left in its member states. There have been strong accusations of Imperialism against the alliance, a process termed "natural" by analysts in Carentania, pointing to the amount of military and economic power concentrated in a group of nations that is bourgeoise by nature. "Expansion of the sphere of their mode of production is normal. Capitalism has to expand constantly, find new markets and capitalize on more and more goods or else the monetary cicle will crush, as it depends on more and more money being infused to allow for profits to be made."

As it is unlikely Carentanian citizens will be allowed to travel into AGE countries during the summit, the UCW has announced its attention to stage a protest march towards Barca. "We will see how far we'll get that day," the spokesperson commented, not wishing to reveal further details of the planned activities.

In another report we will hear from the government of Batavië, which has reportedly declared in a commentary to its press that the IRB, the self-declared vanguard of the communist movement, has no hostile intentions to the capitalist world. According to Bataviës "Supreme Leader" Jap de Graaf, the labelling of Communism as threat to the capitalist states of Europe has been a "false accusation". One can only wonder how the so called International Revolutionary Bloc wishes to spearhead a movement to overthrow bourgeoise rule in all countries if it does not wish to become a threat to the powerful, the exploitators and oppressors.

The Cyrillican government would like to issue a statement informing the Carentanian government that it should respect all leftists regardless of exact political orientation regardless of how libertarian or authoritarian it may be. A libertarian nation such as Carentania should be aware that the exact form of communism that will take shape in any country will be influenced by both culture and its geopolitical history. It would be best if Carentania did not ostracize itself from the left and be confrontational.

Communism and authoritarian are mutually exclusive terms. It's very unmasking that the Cyrillican government tries to bend this fact to justify its own paternalistic rule over people that should be free.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Levantine States

Levantines of all political affiliation are free to express their opinions, the Levantine States has always been a centre of democracy, and it is through this very democracy that the AGE exists. One of the inherent traits of democracy is that even those who oppose and seek to destroy it are welcome to make their opinions known, as long as the Protests are run by the law and remain non-violent.

It is the sovereign right of the Levantine Confederate States to decide on it's border policy. The current status of the border between Barca and Carentania is very well-known, and will remain maintained. Illegal trespassers, crossing into the Levant will be dealt with in accordance with Levantine laws.

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: Slavian Flu arrives in Carentania. A first case of a Slavian Flu infection has been reported amongst an immigrant couple applying for citizenship in the city of Duvno. According to the doctor treating the couple, the Khazar immigrants had been advised to go to the hospital when the secretary managing their citizenship application noticed "they look sick". There the couple was diagnosed with an infection of the H3N2 Virus and are now under quarantine.

Officials from the Commissariate for Health advise anyone having been in contact with the Khazar couple to approach their doctors for a health-check. Furthermore, simple precautionary measures should be taken by everyone. Washing your hands after contact with other people is one of the most efficient ways to prevent the spread of the flu, avoiding to sneeze or cough into a persons direction is another. Currently, immigrants are the most likely carriers of the virus and the most probable way by which the H3N2 virus can gain a foothold within Carentania. The Commissariate for Health reminded every foreigner and especially willing immigrants in Carentania, that there is always the possibility for a free healthcheck from the nearest doctor and urged them to have themselves checked in case of a sudden illness.

Flu can easily be mistaken for another illness, but also the other way round. That is why the Commissariate for Health urges people who notice sudden fever, intense coughing and sneezing, headaches and a pulmonary infection to call their doctor. At the same time, it asks citizens to remain calm and not let the threat of a flu epidemic obstruct their daily life. Currently the Slavic Flu is having only relatively mild effects on its victims, but as any other Flu can be deadly to those with a weakened immune system like children or old people.

In other news: Belmonts dismisses its Prime Minister over a policy that supported terrorist groups opposing socialist states, UCW labor union decides not to support Lusitan People's Republic for "obvious authoritarianism" and Serbovia conducts large-scale violence against its citizens - again.

Cronstedt is currently working on a vaccine for the H3N2 flu. We are offering governments that wish to purchase our anti-flu medicine, at a discounted price.

We would like to gather a sample of the flu in Carentania case to compare it with samples from Międzymorze to see if the flu virus has mutated.

OOC: I don't know where those samples would have come from, as indeed the LFS and AGE nations are currently enmeshed in something that might be called a "Cold War," during the course of which, powers set against each other aren't exactly known for sharing information, much less blood samples. Unless Austurland has had its own widespread and panic-stricken Slavic Flu outbreaks, it simply has no way to have these samples. Period. They might have come from somewhere else than Międzymorze- but they certainly DID NOT come from there. No permission was granted, nor will it be granted for any representative from an AGE country to come and randomly take samples from part of a population (in this case, the Muslims) that is already less than sympatico with the regime. Period. Now, as soon as this is cleared up, and Austurland confirms that he understands this, I'm sure this post needs to be deleted, so as to not clutter up Revy's thread.
