Province of Salzburg Officially Declares State of Emergency

The Provincial Parliament of Salzburg has officially declared a State of Emergency in the Province as fighting resumes in Ivernia. The chief concern of the Imperial Parliament is the arrival of Kadikistani Volunteer forces. The Province of Salzburg is on the border with Kadikistan and is also home to the largest port city in Carinthia. As a result, Salzburg has always been very cautious of Kadikistani movements and requested that the Imperial Parliament do the same. The State of Emergency includes the closing of several public facilities – including schools – until at least Friday. The Government has also urged citizens to be cautious of their surroundings and report any strange activity to the proper authorities. While not immediately available for comment, the Imperial Parliament did confirm that the situation was being monitored carefully. It did not comment on whether or not there was an immediate danger that necessitates additional security.

Chancellor Jordan Speaks on the Crisis in Justiza

Today, Chancellor Wulf Mattias Jordan stated that the Empire of Carinthia “ought to view the blockade around the Republic of Justiza an act of war upon the island nation.” The Chancellor referred to words spoken by Senator Reno P. Grutti of the Levantine States, who also called upon acknowledgement of the blockade as an act of war. “The nature of the Marxist-Leninovist ideology,” said the Chancellor “is one of aggressive expansion. They wish to see a global communist order and given our proximity to the nation, it is not something that we can take lightly. They envy themselves as they should God, that line of thinking fuels an ideology of aggression.” When asked why Carinthia has been slow to respond to Kadikistani movements, the Chancellor admitted that a lack of transparency has justly caused worry amongst the Carinthian People. He has affirmed that the Ministry of War has kept careful observation as well continuous reassessment of the border between Kadikistan and Carinthia. The Chancellor was also pressed to go into details on what recognizing the blockade of Justiza as an act of war would mean as far as Carinthian Foreign Policy is concerned. The Chancellor responded simply by saying “Any response would be rational and proportional to the act committed.”

Expansion of Linz University's Institute of Technology
Linz University Press

Kurt Lafrentz, CEO & President of Lafrentz Industries, joined by Minister Weznel Werner of Science & Technology and Chancellor Lars Gwerder of Linz University, announced a large grant that will help to improve research equipment at the University’s Institute of Technology. While the scheduled event was not expected to make national headlines, Mr. Lafrentz made a surprise announcement that he would also be donating additional funds to construct an entirely new academic hall at Linz designed to teach advanced technology. The announcement drew thunderous applause from the audience. Kurt Lafrentz is the second CEO & President and son of Rudolf Lafrentz, the company’s founder. During Lafrentz’s tenure, the company issued the first commercially produced transistor radio – fundamentally transforming the industry and showing the supremacy of Carinthian Science & Technology. Lafrentz stated in his speech “It is my life’s work to inspire an entire generation of young people to take the tools we have today and turn magic and wonder into science.”

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EMPIRE OF CARINTHIA-HARKÁNY

Good evening my fellow citizens:

This Government, as promised, has maintained the closest surveillance of military activity occurring along the Gothic Sea. Within the past week, combat has resumed in the High Kingdom of Ivernia and the Empire of Carthinia-Harkány has gained unmistakable evidence of increased communist involvement. The purpose of this involvement is to establish yet another Communist Regime and overthrow the legitimate government of the High Kingdom.

I had ordered the Ministry of War to increase surveillance and monitor the situation with the highest scrutiny to ensure that the safety of our people is never in question. The Ministry now feels that the evidence obtained and the resumption of hostilities has prompted this Government to report in the fullest detail the intent of the Empire of Carinthia-Harkány.

We have strong evidence that the Communist Nation of Kadikistan is planning for a large military force to intervene in the Ivernish Civil War, a conflict that we have thus far been able to maintain neutrality in. The size of the undertaking makes clear that the intent of these so-called Republican Revolutionaries is to construct a new Communist nation that will envitably threaten the peace of the Gothic Sea and the world.

Neither the Empire of Carinthia-Harkány nor the world community of nations can tolerate this offensive on the part of communist forces. We no longer live in a world where only the firing of weapons represents a sufficient challenge to a nation’s security to constitute maximum peril. It is a clear and present danger to the Empire that Republican Forces may be successful in overthrowing a legitimate government and establishing a communist regime.

Acting, therefore, in the defense of our own security and of the entire Gothic Sea, and under the authority entrusted to me by the Constitution as endorsed by Resolution of the Imperial Parliament with the blessings of God and His Majesty, the Kaiser, I have directed that the following initial steps be taken immediately:

Firstly, to halt the continued build up of rebel and communist forces in the Rebel Milesia, a strict quarantine on all ships entering the ports of the rebellion will be initiated and enforced by the Imperial Navy. All ships bound to Milesia containing offensive weapons will be turned back. If need be, the quarantine will be extended to include other materials deemed pertinent to the security of the Gothic Sea.

Second, I have instructed the Ministry of War to create the Ivernish Task Force specifically designed to coordinate intelligence with the Ivernish Government and Allied Governments to further the noble fight against the rebellion.

Thirdly, it shall be the policy of this nation to any military action taken against the Imperial Navy or other navies actively enforcing the quarantine as an act of war and will respond justly.

Fourthly, I am ordering the bolstering of Carintho-Harkaner Defensive Institutions along the western border to ensure the safety of our people. The specifics of these movements will be kept under the closest scrutiny.

My fellow citizens: let no one doubt that this is a difficult and dangerous effort on which we have set out. No one can foresee precisely what course it will take or what costs or casualties will be incurred. Many months of sacrifice and self-discipline lie ahead – months where both our patience and will will be tested – months in which many threats and denunciations will keep us aware of our dangers. However, the greatest danger of all would be to do nothing. The blessings of God will carry us to eternity and together, our goal of insuring stability in the region will be achieved.

We thank the Kingdom of Veniasufia for their comments regarding recent military action taken by the Empire of Carinthia-Harkány. However, we feel the need to express that the concerns stated by the Kingdom are far outwayed by the harsh reality of the situation in the High Kingdom of Ivernia.

Firstly, Communist agents have been tampering with the internal affairs for Ivernia in that region for some time and have now begun the shipment of arms. Even more alarming is the Communists are now starting to send ground troops to fight against Ivernia. The quarantine of Milesia enforced by the Imperial Navy is designed to cut off the supply lines of nations that are committed to furthering the chaos and suffering taking place in this horrid war.

Secondly, all Ivernish ports remain unhindered by the Imperial Navy. Humanitarian aid must land through those ports, go through Ivernish customs, and then be dispersed to war effected zones to alleviate the suffering. This is proper and follows international law. This will not impede the flow of humanitarian aid, but it will impede the flow of weapons.

Thirdly, The Empire of Carinthia-Harkány is by no means declaring itself the “de facto ruler of the Gothic Sea.” This action is not to increase any type of military or political influence over the region, it is simply to help end a brutish war that is plaguing our region and forever dampening the human condition.

We hope that we have been able to quell some of the concerns brought up by the Veniasfuian Foreign Ministry and we would like to inform the Government that their concerns will be taken into account, but the Imperial Navy and Government remains committed to the actions it laid out.

We thank you for your dedication to the Ivernian government a fellow ally and hope we can work together to restore balance to the Ivernish lands.

Partial Evacuation of the Carintho-Harkaner-Kadikistani Border

As tensions between the Communist Regime of Kadikistan and the Empire increase, the Carinthian Parliament has begun the process of evacuating the cities and towns located along the border between the two. Prime Minister Alfons Böhler stated “I have nothing but the supreme faith in His Majesty Kaiser Ulrich IV and Chancellor Wulf Jordan. I have supreme faith that our Empire will act in occordance with every international law concerning the quarantine of a rebellion in the High Kingdom of Ivernia. However, the concern does not come from our Empire. It comes from Kadikistan. The Communist Horde has amassed 200,000 soldiers at our own border and I will not stand idly by and watch as they prepare for an invasion that will cost Carintho-Harkaner lives.”

The Government is coordinating temporary housing and implementing relief plans for the evacuees. It is important to note that the Government is not undergoing a complete evacuation and it only affects populations on the eastern most population centers. The City of Krems and Traum, having a combined population of 780,000 have not been ordered to evacuate.

Mobilization of Kadikistani Army Prompts Larger Deployment

It is now well publized that the Communist Regime of Kadikistan is in the process of amassing 200,000 soldiers along the border with Carinthia-Harkány. “There are few clearer signs of aggression,” Foreign Affairs Minister Wolfgang Falkenrath stated. In the announcement of the Carintho-Harkaner quarantine of the rebellion in Milesia, the Chancellor ordered a bolstering of the military defenses along the border. Currently, around 100,000 soldiers have arrived and taken position along the border.

In response to Kadikistani Aggression, the Chancellor has ordered an additional 150,000 soldiers to be repositioned from forts around the country to fortify the eastern border. This will bring the total to 250,000. The Minister of War, Ferenc Sarka, stated “The deployment of over 55% of the nation’s active force is a significant undertaking that will take a significant amount of time to complete. We do this in response to Kadikistani Aggression, we are acting in self-defense.”

The Carintho-Harkaner Quarantine Receives International Support and Praise

On February 27[SUP]th[/SUP], the Quarantine ordered by Chancellor Wulf Jordan has gone into full effect as the Imperial Navy’s Fleet has arrived in the quarantine zone and began taking steps to prevent incursions into the coast of the rebel Milesia. While the exact combination and number of ships involved in the quarantine is not public record, the Ministry of War has stated that upwards of 30 Imperial Ships are involved. It is one of the largest deployments in recent history. The Empire has been very open with nations involved with in the Ivernish Civil War and is coordinating with the navies of Ivernia and Cumbria. Internationally, the quarantine has received praise from the Tiburan Empire and the Kingdom of Eiffelland. ​

“The Sun and the Knight: Part 1” surpasses 1 million copies

In a surprising surge from a company believed to be on the brink of bankruptcy, Galaxy! Comics announced that its long anticipated series, The Sun and the Knight, has sold over 1 million copies across Carinthia-Harkány and Zarakal. The comic brings together the nation’s two most popular superheroes: Solar and Knight. The two characters both made their debuts in 1945 after the merger between Galaxy and Havok! was finalized. Galaxy CEO Stanilaus Lieber announced that the two characters would be the first of a long series of characters populating Earth 2, which takes place on our own planet – a deviation from Earth 1. Lieber refused to give any details of the storyline in The Sun and the Knight, but did say that the alarming success will prompt the company to begin looking in a new direction, perhaps even abroad.

Chancellor Jordan reschedules his budget address

Today, the Chancellor’s office announced that it would be moving up its scheduled budget address to the Parliament from March 20[SUP]th[/SUP] to March 15[SUP]th[/SUP]. While little detail was given on the exact reasoning of the move, Chancellor Jordan announced stated “the issues facing our country need to be addressed now, not later.” Jordan is expected to revive his single payer healthcare plan as well as introduce a minimum wage and a national pension program. In Chancellor Jordan’s previous terms, he had fought hard for the healthcare plan but it had routinely died in the House of Lords. This time, however, the National Democratic Union believes a deal has been reached with the House of Lords – enabling passage of the legislation. Progressive leader, Patrick Budai, stated “Once again, I will fight the Chancellor’s plan to centralize the Imperial Government, this type of expansion defeats the purpose of the Articles of Unification.”

Doctors successfully implant the first internal pacemaker

Doctors at the Edenstadt Institute have announced success in implanting the first internal pacemaker into a patient. Dr. Aurel Busch stated that the availability of silicone transistors aided in the ability to create a pacemaker that could be implanted into the body, causing limited burdens upon the patient. Dr. Busch talked about past technologies that forced the patient to carry the device on the outside of their body. The new device comes at a high cost, but it is expected to get cheaper as the technology develops.

Chancellor Wolf Announces Foreign Stimulus Plan

In light of the Imperial Parliament’s passage of the Mehldorf Proclamation, Chancellor Alden J. Wolf announced the implementation of a foreign stimulus fund, totaling an unprecedented 13.5 billion Krones. Never before in the history of the Empire has such a large amount of money been distributed in foreign aid.

“We need to ensure that our allies are economically powerful,” The Chancellor said “This is the first phase a larger plan developed by my office to begin addressing the growing threat of Communism.”

Members of the media immediately began calling the plan “The Wolf Doctrine” and speculating on what the Imperial Government’s further intentions are for, as the Chancellor says, fighting communism. The current plan includes a massive 10 billion Krone payment to the High Kingdom of Cumrbia, Caledonia, and Loago. The remaining 3.5 billion Krone will be sent to the Kingdom of Mehldorf.

Opposition Leader Patrick Budai stated that he is currently in negotiations with the NDP majority to secure an additional 5B Krone to be used in later stimulus funds for other countries “after the proper review and deliberations of the Imperial Government.”

Minister Wolfgang Falkenrath: “Carinthia-Harkány cannot accept an independent Calidia.”

Today, Foreign Affairs Minister Wolfgang Falkenrath announced that it is the policy of the Empire to not accept an independent Calidia. When asked to comment on the Mehldorfean Government’s willingness to enter talks with the separatist movement, the Minister stated:

“Of course any decent man is interested in diplomacy. The Calidian People are Mehldorfean, through and through. No one wants their brothers to shed blood. However, these negotiations are not in the best interest of Mehldorf nor Calidia and are being done under pressure from foreign adversaries seeking to expand communism’s growth to ultimately usurp the free world.”

The Minister stated that Carinthia-Harkány will begin dialogue with the proper Mehldorfean Government to access the situation and determine the best course of action.

Defense Ministry Announces New Deployments to Zarakal

Due to an increase in communist activity in south Himyar, the Defense Ministry struck a deal with the Zarakali Commonwealth Government to increase the Empire’s military presence in the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth of Zarakal gained semi-autonomous status in 1945 after intensive negotiations with the Provincial Governor, Sirrka Ausiku. Ausiku was subsequently removed from office in 1949 by Kaiser Ulrich IV. However, the Imperial Government agreed to honor the agreements made in 1945. Part of the agreement is that the Imperial Military cannot freely move soldiers in the Zarakali Territory, unless in times of war.

Given increasing hostilities globally, reports say that there was not significant opposition from either party over the details of an increased deployment. The exact details on the numbers have not been released, but the Defense Ministry reported:

“It is a sizable increase, designed solely to adequately and properly defend the realms of the Empire and the Zarakali People.”

"Though we have always been well aware of the archaic nature of the Linz regime we must admit that we did not foresee it running behind the facts in this degree. The People's Socialist Republic of Calidia has been founded with the consent and official recognition by the United Kingdom of Mehldorf under the Fischer Administration on the 4th of July 1956. The creation of this new state was the result of long and careful negotiations which led to the establishment of the Oakhampton Peace Accords on the same date. The latter clearly formulates the conditions and obligations that both sides have committed themselves to in order to keep the peace in Calidia and greater Mehldorf. The PSRC has done nothing but cooperate with its former host in order to properly execute the specifications of the Oakhampton Peace Accords, which can not be said about the St. Wilhelmsstadt regime which has taken an increasingly belligerent approach to the fragile situation. Furthermore the Democratic Republic of Kadikistan has since the 4th of August 1956 issued a formal recognition of the PSRC sovereignty over all the territories specified in the Oakhampton Peace Accords. More specifically the city of Dubsburry, in the former eastern region of Mehldorf. With this in mind Kadikistan will not tolerate its sovereignty being violated by any external entities, including Mehldorf.

Recognizing the role that the Empire is entitled in Germania we are willing to receive any and all questions our neighbours might have concerning the recent happenings in Calidia and Mehldorf. We trust that reason will prevail and that the negotiation table will be sought after, rather than weaponry."

Floretta Liesel Holzer Formally Nominated for Chancellor of the Empire

After a near two-week negotiation between leadership in the Imperial Parliament, Acting-Chancellor Wolfgang Falkenrath has announced that Parliament will submit Parliamentary Delegate Floretta Liesel Holzer for the position of Chancellor of the Empire.

The debates came after the surprising resignation of Chancellor Alden J. Wolf – the first Chancellor in the history of the Empire to resign from office. The resignation came after pressure from members of the National Democratic Union, citing a lack of effective leadership and confidence in Wolf. Patrick Budai, leader of the Progressive Party – and the main opposition to Wolf – stated “It was only a matter of time before we could organize a vote of no confidence.”

Even more surprising than Wolf’s resignation is the decision to nominate Holzer. Born in Eisenstadt, Holzer made a name for herself during her extensive volunteer services throughout the city. In 1932, at only 29 years of age, Holzer was elected to Eisenstadt City Council. In 1940, she took over as Mayor – of a city that has a population of 5.1 million people. After 12 years of leading the nation’s largest city, Holzer was elected to the Imperial Parliament.

From 1952 to 1956, Holzer chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee, working closely with Falkenrath and Jansci Jahoda. Consecutively, she was an influential member of the Human Services Committee – championing an expanded role of Government in improving the lives of the citizens of the Empire. As one of the few women in the Imperial Parliament, Floretta Holzer was known for her ability to negotiate and cross lines with other parties.

Perhaps one of her more famous policy positions was a staunch support of strengthening the Empire and, more recently, the containment of communist expansion. Holzer sharply criticized Chancellor Wolf’s actions in Milesia, Calidia, and beyond.

At any rate, the Parliament is expected to have a special session tomorrow at noon to confirm Holzer’s appointment. According to the Treaty of Unification, she requires 80 out of the 120 possible votes in order to be confirmed. Should Holzer be confirmed, the Parliament will send an official recommendation to the Kaiser requesting his immediate appoint of Holzer to the position of Chancellor. While a special appointment has never been made in the history of the Empire, a Kaiser has also never rejected the recommendation of Parliament.​
