Government condemns Gran Occidentian Imperialism
- Presidente Pedro Herrera called for the emancipation of Monterrey
- Gran Occidentia organised with local authorities a referendum to have Monterrey join the People's State
- Correntines call out the fraud at the referendum and the "Occidentian Takeover"
His excellency, Presidente Pedro Herrera has called out the Gran Occidentian government in regards to their policies of integration of the Free State of Monterrey, the polity proclaimed in the aftermath of the disbandment of the European Forum Mandates.
The news regarding the referendum in Monterrey which has decided that the Free State is to be disbanded and that the nation would be incorporated in the People's State of Gran Occidentia came as a surprise for many, as the establishment in Callao hoped that a cooperative system between itself and Puerto Angeles would be created so that both nation would work together for the emancipation of Monterrey, before they will manage to go forward together as an independent state.
Most of the criticism comes from the Nationalist Revolutionary Movement, the party in power, which has defined Correntine politics since the revolution in 1985. There have been some calls of support for Gran Occidentia, mostly coming from Corrientes' only integralist party, the National People's Action, which is seen as being on the fringe of the Correntine politics, but the call for a better future for Monterrey has been unanimous around the political axis of the United Republic, from the MNR to the Communist Party. The Correntine politicians are joined by Regiomontano (Monterreyan) NGOs and diaspora organisations, which have demonstrated in Rio Verde, Callao and San Sebastian, calling for the independence of their nation.
"We have never seen the people, nor the government of the People's State of Gran Occidentia as an enemy, even if we had our shares of scuffles in the past. But this is simply too much. Our duty, as administrators of emancipated and developed nation-states is to aid the others, the more unfortunate ones, like our brothers and sisters from Monterrey. The news of the referendum in the Free State, was especially hurtful, as we feel that Puerto Angeles turned its back on Monterrey, and decided to copy a Gallo-Germanian typical policy of conquest and border redrawing. This is simply unacceptable. I have announced that the United Republic will not recognise it. I call our colleagues in Puerto Angeles to revise their behaviour and to return to the table of negotiations so they can work together with us and with the Regiomontano civil society, so that we can build the nation together, as brothers, not as rivals," stated his excellency, Presidente Pedro Herrera.

Monterrey has been described by Correntine pundits as "going through hell" since the fall of the Mandate System, with much of the power being taken over by gangs and crime syndicates, which thrive through the exploitation of the local population and the smuggling of drugs, especially cocaine out of the Free State, mostly to Westernesse through Gran Occidentia, or to Gallo-Germania through Corrientes and San Jose.
