WHERE IS CHANCELLOR EIDMAN? AND WHAT IS OSTMARK DOING?
Paint, new public parks and cattle herds blocking provincial roads are dominating the national political debate.

WIEN (Ostmark) - It almost went unnoticed, but Chancellor Walter Eidman has practically disappeared from the international political stage and so has Ostmark that seems to be in some sort of trance, trapped in its own dimensional bubble where nothing ever happens and even when it does, there is no reason to actually care. The real reason might be found in the hammering propaganda promoted by the government presided by Chancellor Eidman and the Social Democratic Party and it is a propaganda that actively encourages political isolationism but also emphasizes on the recent economic success and the uninterrupted score of economic growth and development that, slowly but steadily, are elevating Ostmark from being a backwater, debt-ridden failed state to a politically, socially and economically stable democratic republic.

Ostmark has little or no interest in getting involved in the ongoing bickering between major powers. It also has no interest in exposing itself in one of the many diatribes and, most importantly, it is trying to promote itself as an untouched oasis of peace and economic opportunities whereas international markets are constantly shaken by turmoil. In short, Ostmark is doing what it usually does best: watch the rest of the world burn.

Meanwhile in Wien, an everlasting debate over unlocking new funds to repaint the horrendous grey flats in the outskirts, a remnant of the housing policies of the National-Syndicalist People's Party and described by most citizens as "A punch in the eye", has been dominating the national political scene: should we paint them yellow or orange? Should we add some pink? Or maybe a light blue, and a light green? The municipality of Wien has also initiated a project, sponsored by environmentalist groups, to plant over three thousand threes and fund the construction of new public parks, sparking the protests of some citizens who don't think (and i quote) that "Dogs need more places to poop".

But regardless of the paint color and dog poop issue, life in Ostmark is (as usual) slow and rather uninteresting. Not too far from the capital city, which is home to a little less than a million inhabitants, cattle herds and farming equipment constantly clogs the ill-maintained provincial roads, causing unbearable traffic jams and delays to important appointments for commuters who live by the countryside but work in the capital city.

Random Rheinian architect: "It may seem fun now to paint the gray flats into very bright colours like yellow, orange, pink and everything in-between, but colours will start to irritate soon, and then you will want to paint everything again. I recommend that you paint the buildings creamy white."

WIEN (Ostmark) - A huge and dense cloud of black smoke has been reported by thousands of witnesses over the Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant after an explosion caused a fire and "Relevant damages" in one of the facilities next to the reactor building. Three injuries have been reported by the emergency medical services. The technicians of the National Electric Company have also been working non-stop to guarantee the safety and efficiency of the plant and its systems "We deny initial rumors about a radioactive spill. Radiation levels inside and outside the plant have seen no variation according to our instruments. The fire is occuring as we speak in the Research & Development facility, next to the building of Reactor 1." said a spokesperson of the National Electric Company "As for what caused the explosion, we are still investigating. In the meanwhile, we ask all citizens to comply with the instructions broadcasted by the Emergency Alert System and avoid exposure to open air until the situation is under control." he concluded.

Hundres of firefighters of Wien's Feuerwehr have rushed to the scene a few minutes after the explosion and commenced extinguishing operations in the damaged facility. As to what caused the explosion, the Feuerwehr confirms that an ongoing investigation will soon determine the causes "But the priority is to contain the fire and assess the damages, to guarantee the safety of Reactor 1 and the operational efficiency of the plant". The Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant has two light water graphite reactors for a total output of 20.000MWs.

WIEN (Ostmark) -
In the second day after the fire caused by an explosion at the Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant severely damaged the Research & Development facility, as many as 180 firefighters are working around the clock to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading over to the building of Reactor 1. Wien's Fire Brigade Commander Rudolf Meyer has expressed "concern" over the obstacles met by his men during the operations. "We are struggling to find the source of the ignition and we have reasons to believe the flames are being fueled by a leak of inflammable liquids or gas. We are working closely with the engineers and technicians of the National Electric Company to identify said source and isolate it, so that we may streghten our extinguishing power" said the Commander "One must consider that Autostadt's R&D facility is a six floors building with several divisions that conduct different researches and operations and therefor use many different inflammable and hazardous materials. As to what caused the explosion, we are still investigating but the priority is, as i said earlier, to prevent the fire from spreading over to the reactors. At the moment we are successfully containing the fire to the R&D facility and its immediate sorroundings" he concluded.

The Staatspolizei has also exhorted Wien's residents to remain calm, while reports indicate that thousands of people are leaving the city and moving towards the border of Lethonia-Thuringau, in fear of a catastrophe. National authorities have also exhorted citizens and residents to stay calm and reassured them that "Radiation levels inside and outside the plant have seen no variation in the past 48 hours, more precisely since the time the explosion has occured". Meanwhile, around the Autostadt Power Plant, alarm sirens could be heard all across the night. A spokesperson of the Autostadt administration board reassured "They are part of the automatic fire alarm systems and will stop only when the emergency will be declared
over".

SECOND EXPLOSION KILLS 3 FIREFFIGHTERS, INJURES 2
CHANCELLOR EIDMAN DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY
NATIONAL GOVERNMENT BEGS INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY FOR HELP

Rettungsdienst on scene reports three dead and two injured at Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant after a second explosion in the R&D facility ejected debris on the building of Reactor 1. Linda Grasser (Zentrum Partei) "This is the end of our nuclear energy program".

WIEN (Ostmark) -
This morning Kanzler Walter Eidman issued a televised communique in which he asked the international community to "Provide the necessary expertise and resources" to deal with the ongoing emergency at the Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant. In an emotional address, Eidman admitted that "Ostmark's capabilities to deal with the ongoing emergency are insufficient" and that Wien's Feuerwehr, supported by volunteer firefighters from nearby provinces "Lack the personnel, instruments and equipments to provide an adequate response to the ongoing situation. We don't know what to do. The Government of the Republic of Ostmark welcomes and gladly accepts the help and assistance offered by the Holy Frankish Empire, Ebria and Gran-Occidentia.". Eidman also added that "Considering how many resources in terms of personnel and equipments have been moved to Wien to deal with the emergency at the Autostadt Plant, fire and rescue response capabilities across the nation has been severely reduced way below the required minimum response readiness".

The National Electric Company and the Ministry of Energy have issued a joint statement in which they reassured the population and the international community that radiation levels have seen no variation during the third day of operations, but raised "Deep concern" for the potential disaster if the Feuerwehr and the engineers of the Autostadt Plant will fail to locate and stop the leak of inflammable gas that, from underneath the R&D building, is fueling the fire and obstructing extinguishing operations "We are evaluating a complete shutdown of Reactors 1 and 2 to prevent a catastrophe that goes way beyond our imagination. But this will be a solution of last resort, considering how the consequences will plunge the entire city of Wien, and its nearby areas, into a total blackout that could last last long as a week".

Meanwhile, the emergency at the Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant has sparked a national debate over the future of Ostmark's nuclear energy program "The Zentrum Partei aswell as other political parties have often expressed concern over the fact that the Autostadt plant is almost 55 years old and it has been operated with safety and maintenance standards just above the minimum levels due to a chronic lack of funds, expertise and resources. It is time to reconsider our use of nuclear energy for the sake of our own safety, and the safety of Germania and Europe" said the leader of the Zentrum Partei, deputy Linda Grasser.

We are deeply concerned about the situation in the Autostadt nuclear power plant. A team of firefighters including ten firefighting vehicles and radiation experts is ready to be deployed to Ostmark. This team will be transported by planes from the Rheinian air force, because those are the planes that are most rapidly available. Is that a problem?

THE DAY AFTER: HOW OSTMARK ALMOST DESTROYED THE WORLD
International assistance was vital to avoid a nuclear disaster at Autostadt's Nuclear Power Plant, highlighting Ostmark's underdevelopment and limited resources.

You must be registered for see images

EDITORIAL
By Alexander Besselman

WIEN (Ostmark) - It was only when a coalition of international teams of experts and firefighting squads from all over Europe joined the heroic yet inefficient efforts of Wien's Feuerwehr that an entire nation (and an entire continent, if not the planet) sighed in relief. The experts came from the Holy Frankish Empire, the Rheinbund, Pelasgia, Ebria, Gran-Occidentia and many other nations as soon as the engineers of Ostmark's National Electric Company realized how serious the situation was. Chancellor Eidman's appeal was thankfully not left unanswered and disaster was getting closer every hour, hadn't the aforementioned nations answer the cry for help.

The Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant fire is only a symptom of Ostmark's underlying lack of resources and liquidity, despite macro-economic data continues to confirm a modest yet stable growth of the GDP, buying power and an increase in consumers demand and offer. Yet the availability of cars made in the Rheinbund or electronics made in Tianlong does not seem to have any visible effect on the infrastructural and logistical underdevelopment. Ostmark is still ranked as Germania's poorest country probably only because Pannonian successor states have not yet released enough datas to be included in this year's ranking, but many are ready to bet that even in that case, Ostmark would find itself competing with countries that have only recently reemerged from a devastating civil war.

Speaking of resources, Ostmark's Feuerwehr has been seen in action by hundreds of millions of people all over the world. Everything from fireproof jackets, helmets, firetrucks, tankers and individual equipment looked old and not because of a fashion-related choice. Over 90% of the Feuerwehr's vehicle are at least 30 if not 40 years old and ill maintained due to a lack of funding, resulting in an absurd ammount of broken down vehicles that are estimated to reduce the Feuerwehr's already limited capabilities by at least 35%.

Even the Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant, a relic of the 1970s, has been rarely updated and most of the expert who worked at the plant since its inauguration are either dead or retired in a nursing home. The scarcity of nuclear physicists, engineers and experts in general have also reduced Autostadt's Plant operation and maintenance capabilities to a bare minimum that, clearly, has not prevented the fire in the Research & Development facility whhich, according to a final report by the Ministry of Energy and the Feuerwehr, has been caused by a "severely compromised electric grid", which could be translated into: i have no idea what i'm doing.

The National Electric Company has expressed gratefulness at the foreign experts who, as of today, are still assisting Ostmarkian engineers at the Autostadt Plant, but the debate now is polarized between those who think the plant should be shut down, thus ending Ostmark's nuclear energy program, or sell the plant to a foreign company in the hope that a permanent staff of foreign experts can cope with the criticalities that have emerged in Ostmark's capabilities to deal with this kind of emergencies.

Maybe we can help with Ostmark's energy problem. We can deliver you windmills, solar panels, hydro-electric power systems, as well as power plants on coal, natural gas and oil. Furthermore, we can give you advice on how to make the Ostmarker electricity supply more robust.
In cooperation with the Technische Universität Cöllen, we can also assist you in keeping the Autostadt power plant open until a replacement has been foreseen. We realise that the phenomenon nuclear power is currently a sensitive topic, but we do want to suggest a light-water reactor or pressurised heavy-water reactor as a replacement for the Autostadt power plant. The advantage of these reactors above the RMBK-type reactor of the Autostadt power plant is its intrinsicly safer design. Please find some documentation attached.

Maybe we can help you with managing your current fleet of fire fighting vehicles. Replacing them all could be an option, and we are open to that. But maybe we can also go for a more gradual approach: Replacing 20% (or less) of the vehicles now, then next year another 20% etc. In this approach, spare parts for the vehicles still riding around would be taken from the vehicles that have been replaced.

"FÜR LUDWIGSTADT, FÜR OSTMARK UNSER VATERLAND!" LUDWIGSTADT'S MAYOR REFUSES TO LEAVE FESTHALLE AMID CONCERNS
World-famous Ludwigstadt's Freikorpsfest in full swing as Mayor refuses to stop celebrating and raising glasses of beer "There's always a reason to say PROST!" he said.

LUDWIGSTADT AM SEE (Ostmark) - Yes, it's that time of the year again. The time when the mountain community of Ludwigstadt am See attempts to beat the last year's record of alcohol intoxications "We have a long way to go, but i have faith that our community will once again show its strenght and tenacy. We can do it, we can survive this." said Mayor Hans Rutter who categorically refused to leave the Festhalle, where music and celebrations have been going on non-stop for the past 24 hours.

"I'm the mayor and i need to stay here to supervise the Freikorpsfest, and make sure everything is fine. So far local healthcare authorities have reported 478 confirmed intoxications, but it's still a long way to go to beat last year records of 1457. 48 more hours to go, but i'd say we are still in a good shape. For Ludwigstadt, for Ostmark our Fatherland!" said Rutter infront of the cameras of Ostmarkischen Fernsehen, after an opposition councilman raised concerns over the Mayor's erratic behavior and "Absurd ammount of beer" consumed in the past 24 hours. Will Ludwigstadt's community (and Mayor Rutter's liver) survive another Freikorpsfest? Stay tuned.

LANDWEHR UNDERGOES FULL "RESTYLING" WITH NEW UNIFORMS, HELMETS AND INSIGNA.
The decision, approved by the majority of the Nationalrat, will also include the decommissioning of the iconic Stahlhelm M59.

WIEN (Ostmark) - The Staatsprasident and Commander in Chief of the Landwehr, Karl Albrecht, signed into effect a new law approved by the National Assembly to begin the full restyling of the armed forces of the Republic of Ostmark to "Modernize light infantry equipment and clothing, including the decommissioning of the old and obsolete M59 helmet". The Stahlhelm-M59 had been adopted in 1959 to replace the Stahlhelm-M26 of the old Royal Territorial Defense Force and is considered as the icon of Ostmark's armed forces ever since for its unique shape.

The new uniforms will also conform with modern standards and will include a new and innovative winter and summer camouflage to increase the operational efficiency of the soldiers in mountain and rural environments that are typical of Ostmark's geography. The budget allocated for the entire restyling is estimated at 40 Billion Ostmarks (20 Million Euromarks) and will also include the introduction of the Sturmgewehr-85 due to its notably better efficiency in combat situations if compared to the standard issue assault rifle Sturmgewehr-79.

WIEN'S FEUERWEHR SHOWS OFF BRAND NEW VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT
Thanks to the funds and expertise provided by the Holy Frankish Empire, the Fire Brigade has finally reached "Modern standards of efficiency and response".

You must be registered for see medias
By Alexander Besselman

WIEN (Ostmark) - Like children who received their new toys during the night of Christmas' Eve, Wien's firefighters enthusiastically tested the first batch of brand new vehicles and equipments recently provided by the @Holy Frankish Empire following the avoided catastrophe at the Autostadt Nuclear Power Plant. The fire at the plant had highlighted criticalities caused by "A lack of modern and efficient equipments, a stark symptom of the country's underdevelopment and lack of resources". The article published on Die Republik prompted the Kaiser to instruct the Foreign Office and the National Assembly of the Empire and initiate an aid packaged aimed at improving Ostmark's emergency services capabilities and efficiency by providing new vehicles, equipments and technical expertise.

Wien's Feuerwehr is the first fire department in Ostmark to take advantage of the new aid package and "It will immensively improve the quality of our service, aswell as the safety of our operators who are working 24/7 to provide rescue services in our capital city" said a spokesperson of Wien's Fire Brigade. According to the Ministry of Interior this is only an initial step "To bring Ostmark's emergency services into the future" and that "Frankish assistance has been proven vital in the past two years, in all sectors of the economy and infrastructures, to help Ostmark's effort to step into modernity".

HE FOUND A NATION IN RUIN, NOW A LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES
Walter Eidman, the hero we needed.

You must be registered for see images

By Alexander Besselman

WIEN (Ostmark)
- When he took the oath of loyalty shortly after the death of former Interim Volkskanzler Ludwig Bohmer in January 2021, newly elected Kanzler Walter Eidman was presented by his aides with a horrifying report of the state of the economy and public finances. The country was standing once again on the brink of default due to the insane budgets of the People's Defense Force and the State Security Service. Corruption was so pervasive in all spheres of life that Eidman realized it was much more effective to replace all the former national-syndicalist bureaucrats rather than start an awareness campaign against corruption in the public administration, while the centrally-planned industry barely produced enough consumer goods for the self-sustainance and most factories and public or semi-private companies mostly relied on state subsides to survive and continue their operations.

Meanwhile, the quick events that led to the dissolution of the Volksrepublik Ostmark had created deep fractures in Ostmarkian society, leading up to a season of terrorist attacks, deadly riots, illegal occupations and a resurgence of National-Syndicalist extremism that culminated with the bombing of the Palace of the People's Republic and the occupation of Ludwigstrasse by the Black Front, an extremist group born from the ashes of the National-Syndikalistische Volkspartei.

Yet, against all odds, Chancellor Walter Eidman has somehow managed to find all the pieces of the puzzle and use this new opportunity to rebuild a new nation and a new society from on ruins of the old one. His new Ostmark has successfully re-emerged from its past, albeit with one or two obstacles on the way, and rebranded itself as "Germania's most stable country". Firmly anchored to his social-democratic ideals, Eidman then proceeded on reforming the economy and open up the market to foreign investments while taking important steps towards a more inclusive society, expanding civil rights, protecting workers rights and boosting the welfare system to counter the downsides of the transition from the centrally planned economy to a free market system.

Soon enough foreign governments that had previously ideologically clashed with the National-Syndicalist regime sought to catch the wind of change and announced massive investments in all sectors of economy. From the banking system to automotive and heavy machinery, multinationals invested billions of Euromarks and opened up factories, subsidiaries, opportunities for ostmarkian and foreign businessmen alike, leading to a slight improvement of the quality of life of the workers thanks to an increased buying power and a much larger availability of consumer goods. A few examples are the multi-billion Frankish investments by OstBank and microchips manufacturer Soigig Dynamics and the 4.3 billion investment by Pelasgian firms for the construction of a new commercial port in Wien to accomodate a larger quantity of maritime traffic and goods. Other than that, many other companies from the Rheinbund and Radilo, such as Darner Werke and TAF, have already started operations in Ostmark where former state-owned Ostmarkische Motoren Werke and Ostmarkische Metallwaren's facilities are producing the Solano model and other farming and construction heavy vehicles.

That said, Ostmark's economy has been constantly growing in the past two years, with a GDP growth of 2.3% in 2021 and an estimated growth of 3.8% in 2022. Despite this trend of growth and trust by foreign investors, Ostmark's economy is still struggling to translate these gains into a tangible improvement of public infrastructure. Eidman has promised to complete the enlargement of the Autobahn and begin an ambitious project to upgrade the existing provincial roads that connect Wien to the Autonomous Province of Wallia in the north-eastern corner of the Ostmarkian Alps. He also vowed to extend tax cuts to foreign companies that will invest in the emerging Ostmarkian economy for the year 2023.

SÜDINSEL, THE LOST COLONY.
The story of how an inexperienced explorer in the 18th century led to a colonial disaster but created one of Europe's most unique communities.

You must be registered for see images

By Heinrich Obenaus

SÜDINSEL-ISLA DEL SUR (Ostmark) - It must have been an akward moment when Ostmarkian sailor and explorer Franz Karl von Wilhelmstadt landed in Südinsel in 1742 after a tragic shipwreck. Tasked by Ostmarkian King Frederick I von Wien to establish a trade outpost in Himyar, von Wilhelmstadt found himself stranded in the wrong continent with no means to go back home. And this is probably the reason why he was quoted as saying "Mistakes were made". Huge mistakes. Neverthless, the ragged band of stranded Ostmarkian sailors used their Germanian laboriosity to establish a fishing village on the coastline just like their King had asked them to, albeit on the other side of the Thaumantic Ocean and with no chance to inform him of the "success" of the mission. Soon enough the sailors came into contact with a peaceful and small tribe of hunters-gatherers of about two hundred individuals, who got fascinated by the technology and the luxuries the Ostmarkians brought with them from the Old World.

By the time Ostmarkian sailors had lost hopes to ever to see their homeland again, mixed ostmarkian-native children were already playing in the streets of the small but flourishing settlement. The existence of the fishing village was officially discovered five years later by Josefino explorers who passed by the island in 1747 and noticed wooden buildings on the coastline. When the understandably surprised Josefinos asked von Wilhelmstadt who he was and what they were doing there, he told them their story. In an act of compassion the Josefinos asked the Ostmarkian sailors if they were willing to be returned to Ostmark but instead they expressed their will to stay on the island "with their families". In an official dispatch sent by a messenger to King Frederick I von Wien of Ostmark, the Josefinos informed him of the presence of his explorer and his crew on "An island to the south of an archipelago". From that moment onward, the island has been officially known as Südinsel in German, or Isla del Sur, Island of the South.

As the years passed, contacts with the Josefinos had intensified in the forms of mutual trade and other exchanges between the islands of the archipelago and the mainland. The arrival of more settlers from the old world and immigrants from Occidentia has significantly contributed to the mixing of the various ethnicities that composed the small but thriving community as each individual brought customs, cultures, languages, traditions and religions that up to this day make Isla del Sur and its community unique. The sporadic contacts with Wien allowed Sudinsel to develope according to the will of its community and local leaders and such development was largely influenced by the Josefino presence in the area rather than the rare convoys that left the old continent to reach the island that, according to historical sources, was described by King Frederick I himself "That useless island in the middle of nowhere".

It was only on the eve of the First Ostmarkian Revolution of 1959 that Südinsel asked Wien to be granted greater autonomy and finally put the word end of its status as "Oversea Colony". An attempt to establish an independent nationhood was twarted by the results of a referendum in which the inhabitants of Isla del Sur voted 49% in favor of independence from Wien, while 51% voted against albeit with desires of greater autonomy and self-government. The Republican administration born from the ashes of the von Wien monarchy after the revolution granted Südinsel the status of Comunidade Ultramarina Autonoma do Isla del Sur (Oversea Autonomous Community of Südinsel) a status that was retained during the National-Syndicalist regime and after the Second Ostmarkian Revolution of 2020.

Today Südinsel is one of Europe's most popular travel destinations with low crime rates and an economy almost entirely reliant on tourism. According to official data from the provincial administration there are at least nine different ethnic groups that speak about a dozen languages. Over 79% of the population considers itself "Ostmarkian", and 89% of the interviewed had Josefino-Ostmarkian last names while about three thousand individuals claim to be the descendants of the mixed Native-Ostmarkian families that had originated back in the first half of the 18th century.
