Major Battles in new frontier of Ivernia
EPA Caladbolg

Reports are coming in from the High Kingdom of Ivernia that the Low Island of Oileáin Na Tríonóide, has become the new scene of the Ivernish Civil War as Republican forces from Milesia have infiltrated the lower islands.

As such the Military Forces stationed in Oileáin Na Tríonóide, so far claiming neutrality in the Ivernish conflict have been forced to engage republican forces. The Provincial Governor, Maximilian Mac Arthur has stated that he intends to meet with Caladbolg officials ''before the end of the week'' to discuss assistance from National Forces.

''We hoped to see a peaceful end to this dispute, and were calling for both sides to lay down their arms. But with republican forces invading Low Island they have forced our hand and forced us to take a side. We must work with Caladbolg to ensure the borders of the Provinces and to control what has become a spreading of the conflict by rouge Milesian forces.''

Governor Mac Arthur has stated the Provincial Brigade will ''sweep through Low Island and rout the republicans'' but sources have stated that without the loyalist Ivernish Air Force it will be extremely difficult to completely remove the Republican Forces.

Taoiseach Nuada Airgetlám has stated he is ''greatly pleased with the decision of
Oileáin Na Tríonóide to return to the fold. Together we can work towards a new future, and the removal of the insurgency and the insurgents.''

A cold and hungry winter for the Gaels. The European Press Association's consensus on the ongoing Ivernish Civil War and what lies ahead for the fractured High Kingdom.
EPA Caladbolg

On the 1st of November, Nuada Airgetlám, together with the Provincial Governors of Nemedia, Formoria, Liex, Partholóin, Fir Bholg, Oileáin Na Tríonóide, Umbasa, Bréifne-Osraige and a ''Governor in Exile Representative'' from Milesia have declared the creation of the Ivernish Imperial Federation; a system in which Ivernia will follow a federal system with the provinces of Ivernia becoming states. This will also grant a great deal of centralization to the High Kingdom, allowing a united military, political system, school boards, to name a few. Many departments and boards will be ''harmonised'' across the new Federation. This will include the creation of a newly empowered Federal Government.

The first enactment of the Federation was the ''War Economy Bill'' which has turned Ivernia's economy into a system dedicated to the war effort of stifling the Self-Proclaimed Milesia Republic, and creating a Milesian State within the new nation.

The ''War Economy'' as proposed by Claíomh Solais to combat the White Dove Republican movement has been successful at halting the advance of the Milesian Armies, as that was the primary purpose to which it was founded. However the system has created problems in Milesia and indeed across the newly founded ''Imperial Federation,'' compounded with the effects of the war itself, it will mean that Ivernia will suffer a hungry and cold winter.

In the cities and surrounding countryside of Milesia, the population is experiencing hardships as a result of the war. Farmers are refusing to co-operate with the Republic in some areas and the Empire in others. Many farmers are finding it difficult to produce food at all with access to fertilizer and machinery limited in the war effort.

Many urban workers are migrating from the cities to the countryside, either as refugees or otherwise, where the chances to produce food to survive are higher. As such the Imperial Federation has encouraged some citizens in Imperial Controlled Milesia to move out of the ''Liberated Cities'' such as Vedrarfjord, temporarily in order to attempt to cultivate land to avoid a critical shortage of food in the cities. In the year of 1955 alone Vedrarfjord has lost over 25% of it's population, with 18% being migration due to the war.

In the Self-Proclaimed Milesian Republic there have been reportings of a series of workers' strikes over dissatisfaction with the new Republic, and an end to President John Holt's ''unelected rule'' however these rebellions have been quelled, sometimes violently, by Republican forces. President John Holt still maintains an ''Emergency of State'' allows him to rule until the ''direct threat from Imperialism ends''. The President states that with the end of the war would come elections. However many experts report that support from the working class is beginning to evaporate as the food rations begin to reduce and the winter rolls in proper. Snowfall is beginning to fall heavily in central Milesia, effectively ending all land cultivation in the area, with rather dramatic reports of being far below the standard yield across the region.

Reports have also come in of an upsurge of the black market in Ivernia. With the martial law closing the borders of Nemedia and Milesia for so long organised crime has managed to grow immensely in the time providing the only means to trade between the two regions, however illicit. With the opening of the Dungarvin County border, allowing legal trade between Nemedia and Vedrarfjord it is hoped that the black market will begin to reduce. Claíomh Solais has stated that it will eventually reopen the entire border and will ''crush'' the illegal market that arose in the meantime.

In Milesia it has been reported by the Imperial Army that many in Central and Eastern Milesia have resorted to bartering, with the Ór collapsing in value in the Republic. Plans were declared by John Holt to remove the Ór currency with a new currency for the eventual goal of a system of distribution with created major uncertainty in the rural regions of Milesia which are not well connected to Vedrarfjord (The former Republican Capital) in terms of communications.

In Milesia, Heavy Industry has fallen to output levels of 20% of those seen in 1952, wheras the rest of Ivernia has seen levels around 85% of the amount in 1952. In the Self-Proclaimed Republic it is also reported that 60% of locomotives are in need of repair. Coal production in Milesia has also fallen, by 60% since 1952.

Claíomh Solais has publicly announced that is is ready to enter talks with the Self-Proclaimed Republic, but only on the condition of an immediate surrender and cease of all republican actions of warfare. President John Holt has not responded to these announcements.

Eiffellandian armed forces announce war games in Eastern Long Sea and Kalahari Sea

Today the Eiffellandian armed forces announced that they will conduct war games in the Eastern Long Sea and the Kalahari Sea, in which mainly the Navy and the Air Force will be involved but the Army will have a role as well. The war games will take place between 22 and 29 February 1956. The Ministry for Defence indicated that the war games will take place far away from the official and most common sea routes so that commercial and passenger sea travel won't be hampered. Governments of the countries near the places where the war games will take place as well as all large shipping companies have been notified. As an extra safety measure, the location of the war games will be checked if any vessels are traveling in its neighbourhoods. Such vessels will be informed about the war games and adviced to follow a route that will keep them out of the location of the war games.
The Ministry for Defence indicated "periodic need of exercise" as the only reason for the war games, but there are rumours that Kadikistan's recent threats against Justiza and Saaremaa were factors in the decision to hold these war games, although the Eiffellandian government does not want to confirm these rumours.

Bourgogne and Trivodnia promise to defend Chetnik Jews

AMSTOV (EPA) - The final day of the Grand Duke of Bourgogne's state visit to Trivodnia ended with both nations pledging to intervene in order to save the Jews of the Chetnik Empire if needed.

His Royal Highness Grand Duke Maximilien II finished his three day trip to the Free States with behind-the-doors meetings with leading Trivodnian politicians from both the government and opposition parties, with both countries agreeing to improve cultural, economic and military co-operation.

However speaking at an extraordinary session of the Grand Assembly on Sunday, the Grand Duke vowed to protect Chetnik Jews from genocide, which was later repeated by President of Trivodnia Meier Lauterpacht in his speech to the Trivodnian legislature.

The Chetnik Dictator has since retracted his threat to expel all the Jews from the Empire, and the Chetnik army has since apprehended or killed many of the ultra-nationalist partisans involved in attacks on the Chetnik Jewish and Muslim communities, leading to an easing of tensions with Bourgogne and Trivodnia.

Both countries accepted Chetnik Jewish refugees in their thousands during the outbreak of anti-Semitic violence in the Empire, and took a strong line against the deportations, imposing a strict trade embargo and threatening to intervene.

The joint response led to a deepening of ties that have been strengthened further by the Grand Duke's state visit. Beyond a common commitment to defend Chetnik Jews, the two nations are known to be worried by Kadikistani involvement in insurgencies and revolutions across the region.

Grand Duke Maximilien II also used his time to see two of Amstov's largest synagogues in a highly symbolic move, as well as some of the Trivodnian capital's most famous churches. Greater collaboration between Burgundian and Trivodnian universities and museums was promised, as well as a measures to ease cross-border commerce.

Rumours of Trivodnia, which has a small domestic defence industry, buying Burgundian military equipment were not confirmed by either government, as were claims their armed forces would hold joint exercises in the near future.

Department of Relations

The citizens of the Combine, and especially its Jewry, applaud the valiant move by the Trividonian and Burgundian governments for opening their doors to those Jews whose lives have been ruined by the threat of anti-Semitic activity in the Chetnik Empire. If there is anything that the Combine can do to assist in these efforts, Trividonia and Bourgogne need only inform us of the role we can play.

Respectfully yours,

People's Commissariat for External Affairs

"The Kadikistani People are concerned about the fact that the nation of Tirvodnia has bilaterally decided to open up a military option to 'defend the Chetnik jews' should they deem the need for it arises. Bilaterally because they have done this together with the Gallian Grand Duchy of Bourgogne, which is guilty of ongoing war crimes in the People's Republic of Milesia. Wisdom, but also common courtesy, would have demanded that either or both Amstov and Chagny would have at least in a minimum amount involved Kadikistan in these talks. Not only as a regional power, but also as a nation with deep ethnic and cultural ties with Chetnik we request to be included or at least properly informed about the decision-making revolving around the Jewish problem in Chetnik henceforth. Anything less will negatively influence diplomatic relations between our nations."

Grand Duchy of Bourgogne

We steadfastly refute accusations of war crimes by Burgundians in the Ivernish conflict. However, the Grand Duchy is happy to work with Kadikistan on this issue. These talks stemmed primarily from the Burgundian assistance in aiding Jewish Chetnik refugees. The meetings which His Grace were in primarily revolved around the assistance of refugees but also trade deals, cultural exchanges and general relations between our nations. As a secondary purpose, prevention of genocide was an important topic. Due to Chetnik rhetoric, this seemed to be a distinct possibility. However, as the tone has changed, this seems highly unlikely. The Chetnik problem in Chetnik which involves Jews is a topic which should be addressed by any who care to lend assistance. If the ambassador wishes, the Grand Duke will be happy to meet to discuss this situation.

The talks between the Grand Duke and President were wide-ranging and covered topics beyond the treatment of the Chetnik Empire's Jewish community. State visits like these involving just two nations are a common occurrence and Trivodnia sees no reason why it should be any different on this occasion.

However, the Free States agrees the treatment of the Chetnik Jewry is of interest to all nations and would be more than willing to discuss the issue on a bilateral basis with Kadikistan.

Offices of foreign media and international organisations raided
EPA Villesen

The infamous Directorate 44, the domestic intelligence agency of the People's Republic, has raided several local offices of the European Press Association, the Associated Press, and many other international human rights agencies operating in the national capital and other major cities. Agents belonging to the D44 arrived at the offices of the EPA at five o'clock in the morning, arrested the watchman of the building and entered the main offices of the EPA Villesen Bureau. Several staff members were detained and questioned, while thirty boxes of files and papers were taken away by the Directorate 44 agents, who refused to state why they were taking the documents in question. Key files related to EPA Villesen sources, finances, and personnel data was a part of the data which has been collected by the Directorate.

The aggressive raid by the much feared domestic intelligence agency is said to have been prompted by the recent measures undertaken by the Burgundian Senate, which has set up a new legal regime to allow dissenters from Serenierre to get asylum in the Grand Duchy. The Commissariat of State Security, which is officially in command of the Directorate, issued a statement in which it was announced that the Government would not allow international agents working against the revolution to continue their activities in Serenierre under the guise of internationalism humanitarianism and journalism. Unconfirmed reports have suggested that the office of the Villesen Bureau of the Associated Press has been sealed and the senior correspondents and domestic editor have been officially arrested. Though, the details at this point are limited.

Additionally, key Burgo-Catholic charities, operating in the Province of Arriere (an ethnically Burgundian area in Serenierre) have also been shuttered under orders from the military government in that province. The military government has, according to official state media, responded to the news of the Burgundian Senate's new bill by imposing a curfew on the province and intensifying the crackdown on the nascent ethno-nationalist Royalist insurgency in the province. It is rumoured that the Supreme Presidium of Justice (the People's Republic's highest court) has approved an order from the Commissariat of People's Deputies which has suspended all constitutional rights of the residents of the Province of Arriere, however, this cannot be corroborated.

Analysis: Trivodnia strikes a harsher note on Kadikistan

AMSTOV - Plans for a rail and road bridge connecting newly independent Calidia with the Kadikistani city of Rurikgrad have pushed Trivodnia take a harder line against Kadikistan, as politicians and citizens at home growing increasingly concerned by Ivar's foreign policy.

Trivodnia, which is constitutionally committed to neutrality, had seen a warming of relations with Kadikistan, led by the previous Social Democratic government, which focused on normalising ties and encouraging cross-border commerce. The current nationalist coalition government pursued a similar course of action, despite Kadikistani involvement in several nearby conflicts in the Gothic Sea region that could potentially harm Trivodnia's interests.

Focused on a domestic agenda of decentralisation and social reform, the nationalists running the Free States had hoped to be able ignore Kadikistan even as it interfered in neighbouring countries. Lacking a large powerful Marxist-Leninovist movement Ivar could use as a proxy, Amstov considered the possibility of attack to be low.

But the bridge to Calidia, which would effectively cut off Trivodnia's access to the Gothic Sea, has forced a change of position in the Free States. The widespread view in the Ministry of External Affairs is the project is a deliberate provocation by the Kadikistani government to lure Trivodnia into open conflict, giving justification for an invasion. Lacking any recent combat experience, Trivodnia's armed forces would likely only offer minimal resistance, allowing for rapid territorial gains enabling Kadikistan to claim quick victory and force a humiliating surrender. Only a few die-hard patriots believe it would be a repeat of the border skirmishes in the 1910s, when Kadikistani revolutionaries tested Trivodnia's boundaries before being repulsed back.

"Trivodnia's army is not yet big or strong enough to hold off a Kadikistani attack," one unnamed official in the Trivodnian Ministry of National Defence told the European Press Association, "current reforms are working but we need more time."

Publicly, Trivodnia maintains Kadikistan lacks the money or knowledge necessary to build the bridge. Privately, Trivodnian diplomats acknowledge Kadikistan is likely to try anyway, and the construction will be deliberately disruptive to commercial traffic and used as an excuse for an enhanced Kadikistani naval presence close to the Free States' northern coastline. "This is just a stick to threaten us", one said.

Typically Trivodnia would have tried to agree some deal with Kadikistan, like with Calidia, which only lacks a direct land border with the Free States thanks to frantic behind-the-scenes diplomacy. Yet two factors are at play that prevent that from happening this time.

First is the most realistic deal, a land route through Jatvigaria (most experts agree a tunnel, as has been suggested by other nations, is just as unlike to be built as the bridge) will be politically impossible. The state recently held local elections, and anti-Kadikistani posturing featured heavily. Whatever government is formed, it will not allow Kadikistani goods to flow across freely or easily into Calidia.

Second is the public and coalition backbenchers will likely to disapprove. Nationalist lawmakers from Krasnislavia in particular, which shares a long land border with Kadikistan, have grown increasingly vocal in their criticism of what they perceive to be a "weak" handling of Trivodnia's largest neighbour. Voter surveys show a similarly growing dissatisfaction of the government's approach.

For now, despite all the bluster of External Affairs Minister Vladimir Pinski's statements, Trivodnia will continue to exercise what the Ministry of National Defence calls "strategic patience". By avoiding baited traps, Trivodnia's foreign policy and military establishments are confident they can outlive Kadikistani threats.

While knowing Kadikistan will not hesitate to use force if given reason to, Trivodnia's government believes the communist country to be over-stretched and dangerously exposed, being involved in several civil wars abroad and lumbered with a faltering economy back home. Speaking anonymously, one intelligence officer predicts a palace coup soon. "Kadikistani politics and history are like a game of chess, with the ruling clans moving from square on the board to another," he says, "discontent will grow and eventually the current family will be replaced with another that may adopt a more pragmatic line. We hope so anyway."

Socialist leaders consider blocking re-nomination of President Almquist
EPA, Telor City

Senior figures in Telora's Socialist Party have held a series of private meetings in recent weeks to discuss ways of preventing incumbent President Hjalmar Almquist from gaining the party's nomination ahead of next year's presidential elections. With the party facing tough electoral challenges in three states this June, and with the President's approval ratings depressed by persistent scandals and missteps, Socialist party leaders believe their best chance of retaining the Presidency is to seek a new candidate and encourage the President to avoid campaigning for them.

Sources familiar with the meetings have told the EPA that those involved in the meeting included at least three members of the President's own cabinet, some of whom are believed to harbour Presidential ambitions of their own, as well as Senators, Deputies, and members of state legislative and executive branches currently controlled by the Socialists. Their discussions began last year, shortly before the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate claims of corruption in regards to the Coastal Communities Act, a piece of legislation designed to provide finance to help communities hit by the collapse of the Teloran whaling industry, which compounded long standing issues in many areas.

The EPA understands that the options considered have ranged from the technical - to use existing Socialist Party rules and institutions to try and block the President's entry to the primaries, which begin in November - to a more traditional approach of seeking a unity alternative candidate to support in the primaries. However, it is also understood that none of these discussions have produced an effective agreement as yet, with sources saying a combination of an unwillingness to openly dissent ahead of June's elections in Gotamark, Lade, and Ossex as well as personal political ambitions are making it hard to reach agreement among the party's various internal factions.

The secretary of the executive committee of the Socialist Party told EPA any discussions about primary challenges to the President were "personal considerations" but that he expected "all members to seek to put party unity, and the achievements of this Presidency, first." Neither the Socialist leadership in Congress, nor the Office of the President, had any comment on the reports.

Emergency Session of the Communist Party ends in Palace Coup
EPA Caladbolg

An emergency vote was organized today by the Central Committee of the Communist Workers' Party of Varinia. The emergency session was called by the general-secretary of the party, Roman Becker, as he felt that through the reforms started by Sabine Schneider the communists are losing control of the country. The vote was also called after Sabine Schneider called for an ideological end of Marxism-Leninovism and the creation of a multi-tendency democratic socialist party that would bring together all the socialist movements. This wasn't accepted by the majority of the leaders of the Communist Workers' Party, many of them spending a few years in exile in Kadikistan after Lena Rees has banned marxism-leninovism.

Sabine Schneider still supported her call for reform, further condemning the way Kadikistan developed after the death of Rurik and the monopolization of power in the hands of the Leninov revolutionary clan. She declared that if socialism is to survive and continue to be competitive in the world and attractive for the masses, it must be reformed and become the main supporter of democracy. Her speech in front of the Central Committee was received with boos from the members attending the meeting and her microphone was cut off.

She was condemned by the members at the meeting as being a Prometheist and booed until she left the hall. Roman Becker went to the microphone again and declared that with this, a new Prometheist conspiracy has been defeated.

"We need to be sure that our party and country are safe from foreign conspiracies! It seems that we aren't ready to build socialism peacefully until we have taken care of all the bourgeois parasites that live within. We had hopes that the two front system can live and bring about what even the bourgeois dictatorships could see as true democracy. But it seems that the real enemies to socialism weren't the National Front, who were reactionaries hoping to bring back a dead monarchy, but the Prometheists from inside our People's Front who were organizing a coup by taking over the coalition. No. The system was flawed and will disappear. For the sake of the workers of Varinia, the old system must be brought back until the capitalists and counterrevolutionaries return," stated Roman Becker in his speech.

In the vote, 233 members voted against Sabine Schneider, none supported her and one single member abstained. The vote was followed again by another one in which Roman Becker was voted Chancellor in unanimity, replacing Sabine Schneider and suspending the 3rd Republic constitution, until the crisis would pass. The news of the return of Roman Becker was received badly by the population with demonstrations already starting in Hartem, Selburg and Rotbach in the south and in the main cities of the north.

To whom it may concern,

His Imperial Majesty's Government will continue to closely monitor the developments in Varinia, while condemning the undemocratic and highly irregular seizure of power by the hard-line Communist faction of Roman Becker. Indeed, Mr. Becker has shown himself to be rather positively inclined to coups d'état, having seized power first from the legitimate authorities of the Kingdom of Varinia, a realm which he had sworn to defend, and then from the elected government of the United Republic of Varinia, a regime in whose creation he took an active part. We call for a return to the lawful constitutional order in Varinia and for the people's wishes to be heard, so that peace might reign in that far northern land after all that its proud folk have had to endure.

Free State seals border with Istokgrad

AMSTOV - The Free State has "temporarily" closed its border with Novo Srbja, with troops moving to block the main routes going in and out of the country, according to a joint statement issued earlier today by the Free State's Ministry of External Defence and Ministry of National Defence.

The border had been previously open to refugees fleeing the violence, and for humanitarian convoys to enter Novo Srbja with aid supplies. Now cross-border traffic will be entirely prohibited, and the Free State has warned it will use "lethal force if necessary" to prevent any unauthorised crossings.

The Free State last week deployed additional personnel and equipment to the border region, sparking rumours the country was preparing to intervene militarily in the Novo Srbjan civil war. The Free State government now insists the extra deployments were to help with the border closure, and that it has no plans to involve itself further in the neighbouring conflict.

However, the move comes swiftly after the Federal Novo Srbjan government in Banja Luka issued a formal request for outside assistance from Bourgogne and the Free State, as fighting continues with the secessionist Novosad Liberation Army in and around the capital.

The federal government was previously allied to the Srbjan Communist Party, which rules over Istokgrad province, which directly borders the Free State. However relations between the factions have deteriorated, leading to the Federal authorities in closing the internal border with Istokgrad. The Srbjan Communist Party has since declared Istokgrad to be an independent People's Republic, and sought Kadikistani support.

In addition to stemming the flow of refugees, whose arrival has proven contentious politically in the Free State, many suspect the border closing is also intended to put pressure on the breakaway regime in Istokgrad to return to the negotiating table with Banja Luka, which has been denied by the Free State's government. "Our only focus is the safety of our citizens, and a porous border with Novo Srbja risks the conflict spilling over," replied a spokesman when questioned.

Roman Becker leaves for Calidia as the Northern Status Quo Treaty is signed and the revolutionaries take control of Hartem
EP Caladbolg

News came from Maseru of the signing of the Treaty of the Northern Status Quo between the Government in Exile of the Kingdom of Varinia and the Democratic Republic of Kadikistan. The treaty, signed between Sebastian Dunst and the Kadikistani New Order signs a peace between the Kingdom and the Democratic Republic. The treaty stipulates the payment of a huge sum of gold, up to 3.5 thousand tones, meaning the four year gold production of Loago. The treaty obliges the Kingdom of Varinia to remain a neutral country, with no military alliances; The Democratic Republic of Kadikistan breaks all relations with the United Republic of Varinia and the Becker Regime, both countries end the funding and support of dissident groups and both countries pledge to declare the illegality of any militarily hostile relations between Varinia and Kadikistan.

The news of the signing of the treaty, which happened yesterday evening came as a shock for the communist authorities in Varinia, but some also described it as easy to see once the Kadikistani forces were so apathetic to intervene in the revolutionary events in Hartem and the main cities of the country. The authorities tried to censor the information, Borealen Rundfunk suddenly ending transmission, after it stopped transmitting news once the demonstrations began and only transmitted music. But on shortwaves, the people heard from the pirate radio stations like Free Scania and Radio Maseru of the signing of the treaty, which brought many more people on the streets and the revolutionaries attacked the headquarters of the SVB, the secret police and of the government. After it was reported that the news of the treaty was transmitted and seeing that the people became restless and outright violent, with attacks on the ministry of interior being reported, Roman Becker ordered the evacuation. He was taken by loyalist members of the Territorial Army in an Armored Personnel Carrier and driven through town to the Airport where he took a plane and was flown to Calidia. By Midnight, the Rakvere Airport received the ex-dictator of Varinia.

The revolutionaries took control of the government palace but there were casualties when they tried to take control of the headquarters of the State Defense Bureau, the secret police of the regime, where a number of officers tried to defend the building and opened fire on the population, killing five and wounding twenty three. The building was easily taken over by defecting members of the Guardians of Peace and of the Army. As the news of the takeover in Hartem began to spread, the White Army in Milesia started to activate, together with the White Fleet, which took refuge in Ivernian ports after the failed Northern Rebellion and started to move back to the capital.

The Milesian positioned White Army entered Varinia virtually unopposed, as the communist created Territorial Army has literally disbanded after the news regarding Becker's refuge to Calidia. On the afternoon of the 7th of June, General Ricimer Segericson entered Hartem, arriving two hours before the White Fleet in the city and held a speech in front of the soldiers and the civilian population in Heldenplatz, declaring that the days of the communist experiment are over and that Varinia returned to it's lawful and natural state, formally declaring the restoration of the Kingdom of Varinia.

The Free State welcomes the return of peace and stability to Varinia, and news of improved relations with Kadikistan. We hope what has been achieved here is a model to other nations currently in the midst of conflict, and serves as inspiration to warring factions across the globe to pursue political aims by diplomatic means, not military ones.

To whom it may concern,

His Imperial Majesty's Government wholeheartedly congratulates the people of the Kingdom of Varinia on the reclamation of their homeland from the Communist gang that had usurped power in Hartem, ruling the proud northern nation as their personal fief. We would further like to congratulate the people of Loago on standing by their former colonial master as a truthful friend even after independence. May Varinia and Loago find peace and prosperity. A ball in the honour of the Royal Restoration is to be held in the Great Palace of Propontis, while all representatives of the Becker regime have been deported from Pelasgian soil, the Varinian embassy being once more home to the diplomats pf the sole legitimate government of Varinia.

Rioting breaks out in major Trivodnian port city

KRETYN - Scores have been left injured and hundreds arrested after fighting in downtown bars in Kretyn, Trivodnia's second largest port, exploded into large-scale riots that have left dozens of properties damaged.

Unemployed sailors and recently demobilised soldiers are believed to be responsible for most of the violence, which took local law enforcement several hours to fully quell. According to rumours on the ground, returning troops had repeatedly approached a group of young girls walking through the city centre at night, before being chased away by local men, resulting in a large brawl that then escalated.

Kretyn sits on the coastline of the Inner Sea, which Trivodnia shares with Kadikistan, and has been hit hard by the breakdown in relations between the two countries, with commercial shipping having virtually stopped following threats of war from Ivar.

The result has been mass unemployment in the city, with many now dependent on welfare payments and charity as a means of living. The Trivodnian government has promised to normalise relations with Kadikistan, which it hopes will see trade between the two nations recover.

Foreign activists blocked from entering Trivodnia

AMSTOV - Jewish activists linked to the Homeland Union have been barred from entering Trivodnia after the country's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced an investigation into the party's campaigning practices.

Dozens of Jewish volunteers from across the world have already travelled Trivodnia to support the Homeland Union as it contests in the snap election called last month by Chancellor Alexander Kahnemann. According to the party's leader Moisei Carlebach, hundreds more were planning on joining.

"There has never been an issue before," said Carlebach in an interview with a local broadcaster, "this is clearly the result of behind-the-scenes government intervention... they are running scared."

The IEC revealed it was looking into the Homeland Union's use of international volunteers last week, claiming the party could be in violation of "numerous" electoral laws. An unknown number of volunteers have been detained at Amstov International Airport and face deportation to their home countries.

Carlebach in turn accused the Commission of "hypocrisy", noting other parties, including the ruling Social Democratic Alliance (SDA), regularly receive overseas campaign support.

The SDA has denied it is behind the investigation into the Homeland Union, and claimed it always consults with the IEC before working with foreign activists.

The Homeland Union has long had a controversial presence in Trivodnian politics. The party advocates the creation of a "temporary or secondary Jewish nation-state" in majority-Yiddish-speaking areas of Trivodnia until one can be established in the Holy Land.

Its leadership recently backed proposals to carve Trivodnia into two ethnically-based halves - one Jewish, the other Krasnislavian - and has previously called for the deportation of Kadikistani and Srbjan refugees to avoid upsetting Trivodnia's "demographic balance".
