Political rallies in Hajr left undisturbed by authorities

SIDRA (Reuters) – As the first democratic elections in history in the nation of Hajr draw closer, there are signs that there have been further changes in the politics of the authoritarian Himyarite monarchy. Opposition parties, which are officially banned, have staged several large rallies in major Hajri cities over the past weeks. The rallies, which remained peaceful, were not broken up by the country's police forces. This is a major break with the past, when it was impossible to organize a political demonstration without severe harassment by the authorities.

Hajr will be holding its first fully democratic elections in little more than a week, on April 19. In response, several banned opposition parties in the country announced the resumption of their public activities, after having been driven underground following a repression campaign in the late 1990s.

The Islamic Development Party (IDP) staged a demonstration of several hundred to a thousand people in the suburbs of Sidra following Friday prayers over the past two weeks. This was followed by simultaneous rallies in Jerusalem, Sidra, and the northern port of Marj Ayyun, organized jointly by the Social-Democratic Toilers' Party (SDTP) and the Liberal Party on Saturday, which together brought more than fifteen thousand people onto the streets, according to a party spokesman. Finally, the communist Social-Democratic Party—Left (SDP-L) staged several protests against allegedly corrupt officials in the major cities of Hajr over the past week, which also involved several hundred people. All of the rallies remained peaceful.

In a break with tradition, the police forces of the autocratically-run country did not intervene in order to break up the rallies, which were the first major demonstrations to take place in a decade. Large amounts of riot police and paramilitary units of the national marechaussee had been mobilized, but these did not undertake action. No arrests of demonstrators occurred. This indicates that government policy toward political organizations may have been relaxed in a major way for the first time in decades. Three years ago, an attempt to stage a rally by the Communist Party ended in a violent government crackdown.

The Hajri government refused to comment on the issue when pressed for answers by Reuters. Nevertheless, it seems apparent that the closed royal government of Sultan Huseyn has abandoned its hard line toward opposition groups in favor of a more open process leading up to the elections. This state of affairs is accompanied by persistent rumors that the Sultan will allow party candidates to participate in the elections, which would be another first. These rumors remain unconfirmed by any official source, however.

Khalistan and Vangala set for historic meeting

LAHORE (Reuters) - The People's Republic of Vangala and the Khalsa Raj of Khalistan are set for their first bilateral meeting, with Vangalan External Affairs Minister Ajoy Qamaruzzaman preparing to depart for the Khalistani capital Lahore later today. The trip is to last for three days and features talks, visits to famous historical places and a joint press conference. The main areas of discussion have been confirmed as expanding trade links, cultural exchange and awareness and improving the international standing of developing nations.

Relations between the two nations have previously been cold and distant, hampered by Vangala's aggressive foreign policy, repressive internal politics and support for communist guerillas in the region. Since economic and political liberalisation in Vangala, ties have since warmed. However, the Khalistani may be slightly embarassed by the visit, with Vangala facing criticism for its controversial nuclear programme and recent decision to demolish thousands of illegal homes.

Vangalan Foreign Minister calls for return of concession city

LAHORE (Reuters) - The Vangalan External Affairs Minister Ajoy Qamaruzzaman has stirred controversy and debate in his host country Khalistan after calling for the return of the concession city of Bombaim, currently owned by Anglyn, when speaking at a joint press conference with Khalistani Foreign Minister Rasgun Singh Multani. Qamaruzzaman described the Anglysh possession as a "relic from the colonial era" and claimed its continued existence is "offensive to all free peoples".

The Vangalan External Affairs Minister is in Khalistan for a three day visit intended to improve diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between the two nations. The joint press conference is the last event of the tour, in which he has had an audience with Maharajah Ranjit Singh II and visit numerous historical sites, including the Golden Temple and Tomb of Ranjit Singh I, the Lion of the Punjab. He is expected to return to Vangala later today.

The comments may damage the progress made after a largely successful trip. Khalistan enjoys close relations with Anglyn and the European Defence Federation (EDF) as a whole, of which Anglyn is a leading member, and is unlikely to appreciate Vangalan interference into its internal affairs and foreign policy.

Vangala has also sought to improve its own ties with the EDF, primarily through its close relationship with Franconia, the former colonial power and another leading member of the alliance. After decades of mutual hostility and mistrust, Franconia is now one of Vangala's main trading partners and aid donors. Other EDF member-states are also looking to increase investment and aid to Vangala.

Neither Khalistan or Anglyn have commented on Qamaruzzaman's statements.

His Majesty's Government is delighted to see Mr Qamaruzzaman's dedication to the welfare and interest of all peoples in the region. However, we believe that this matter will be best resolved, if both Khalistan and Anglyn declare their intentions to revise the status of Bombaim. Since both states haven't indicated the contrary, the Kingdom of Franken assumes they want to continue to honour the treaty.

The Treaty of 1850 ceded the city and the surrounding territory of Bombaim to the Kingdom of Anglyn, and for a hundred and sixty-one years the treaty has been honored with the citizens of Bombaim receiving the benefits of there unique status. For the Vangalan Foreign Minister to now say that Bombaim's status should be changed can only be seen as an attempt to drive a wedge between the Khalsa Raj of Khalistan and the Kingdom of Anglyn.

Vangalan Foreign Minister defends his comments

LAHORE (Reuters) - Vangalan External Affairs Minister Ajoy Qamaruzzaman has appeared on television defending his controversial comments on a recent diplomatic trip to Khalistan, where he called for the return of the concession city of Bombaim, which has been in Anglysh hands for over 150 years, to Khalistan. Both Anglyn and Khalistan have reacted negatively to Qamaruzzaman's statements, with Anglyn accusing Vangala of attempting "to drive a wedge" between the two nations, while Khalistani Foreign Minister Rasgun Singh Multani described the incident as an "misfortunated happenstance".

Speaking on Tiger News, a news channel popular with overseas Vangalans and known links with the Vangalan government, he described the protesters outside the Vangalan consulate in Bombaim as "[Anglysh] state agents" and accused Anglyn of waging a "propaganda war" against Vangala. He reiterated his beliefs, claiming Bombaim is "rightfully Khalistani" and dismissed the Treaty of 1850 as "unfair" and "written at gunpoint".

Qamaruzzaman has enjoyed support back home in the People’s Republic, with President Moheen Chatterjee agreeing with the External Affairs Minister’s comments in an earlier press conference. The Vangalan Communist Party also passed a resolution demanding independence for all current colonies or return to their respective homelands. Demonstrations occurred outside the Anglysh Embassy in Kilkila, mainly led by activists from the Romesh Nabi Young Communist League.

Yet the Minister also stressed his desire for good relations with not just Anglyn, but with the whole European Defence Federation, with some Vangalan diplomats worrying about the potential impact on ties with Franconia, an important trading partner and aid donor. He invited the Anglysh ambassador to private talks, where he promised to clarify Vangala’s position on Bombaim.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The stance being taken by the People's Republic of Vangala is regrettable. Additionally, we inform Kilkilla to be cautious in its behaviour.

Sereniérre's can no longer sincerely retain the title of 'People's Republic' when it has reneged on its committment as a socialist nation to bring freedom and equality to the thousands still suffering under colonial oppression and favours collaboration with capitalists and feudal autocrats over co-operation with fellow revolutionary states. We demand a meeting with the Sereniérrese Ambassador in Kilkila to explain Sereniérre's disturbing new foreign policy. We are also reconsidering attending the planned bilateral meeting.

It is the opinion of the Socialist Republic of Coronado that the future of Bombaim should be determined by the people of Bombaim, and not by a King in Winchester nor a Maharajah in Lahore. Bombaim for Bombaimians.

Cantigny: 'Democracy or Death' for Oceania

VESPER (Reuters) - The Cantigny Office for Foreign Affairs informed Oceanic an Eastern governments this Friday that it will personally engage in a series of intimate talks between Cantigny and each individual territory or colony in the region, reportedly stating bluntly that the Commonwealth "will no longer respect the status quo," a move likely aimed at establishing a new power nucleus out of Vesper.

Commonwealth Officials have touched upon recent rumblings from Bombaim, an Anglysh "Colony", which are calling for independence from the Kingdom of Anglyn and sharply challenging the foreign rule of Eastern and Oceanic territories. Chief Officer for Foreign Affairs Benjamin Stokes has asked the Treasury to endorse his Office in sending a strong message to the World by asserting Cantigny as the solution to future co-prosperity and security, saying that Oceania "must collectively choose between Democracy or Death."

Benjamin Stokes carefully outlined an offer to Anglyn, Bombain, Butuan, Khalistan, Suionia, and Touzen to begin empowering "Oceanic Communities by assuring legitimate democratic processes that represent the Patriotic Peoples of Oceania". The Chancellor--who has backed the statement--has separately offered to meet with the Governors of Oceanic Communities in person, as well as their nationalist opposition figures. Additionally, the Chancellor "expresses his strong endorsement of all party's that believe in a strong Oceania, which cannot naturally exist with external manipulation by the international community".

Concerning Bombaim, Cantigny argues that the only way to resolve the legitimacy of Anglysh Dominion is through direct scrutiny of "democratic conditions, as facilitated by racial conditions". The Cannie effort comes as the Nation is facing a massive wave of popular demonstrations that have brought down the Progressive-Republican Government on Adelaide Island, Cantigny where secessionist attacks recently spurred a series skirmishes between militant rebels and national enforcers.

While His Majesty's Government appreciates the initiative by Catigny's colonial government, we believe any initiative ought to be wary lest it violates the sovereignty of Anglyn.

_____________________________________________

DULWICH, SATURDAY, 21st MAY 2011
_____________________________________________

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of Her Engellexic Majesty The Queen to make known the following gracious Statement of Her Engellexic Majesty to the Sovereigns, Chancellor, their Lordships and the People of Realms of Interest.

Extension of The Queen's Statement in Council.

TO THE SOVEREIGNS, CHANCELLOR, THEIR LORDSHIPS AND PEOPLE OF THE REALMS OF INTEREST

I am instructed to express on behalf of Her Engellexic Majesty;

To express a determination that her ministers of the Commonwealth would bring address to this policy at the Council of State to be held within Vesper, to allow the details to be fully realised and discussed. Her Engellexic Majesty, the Queen, approves of the principle held on the establishment of a democratic culture within the Implaric Oceanic Territory, and naturally consents to provide her support. Ill-advised states have contended that the measure was a direct interference with the sovereignty held by other, non-Oceanic states, over realms and territories within the region. The way to serve the immediate interest of the Oceanic people was to cease to legislate for it, and to leave its management to the good sense and wisdom of the people of the Implaric Oceanic Territory themselves.

It has been asked upon to her Majesty the Queen whether it was not the imperative duty of the Sovereign to take up the subject, and lay the concerns to the tables of her ministers in Vesper expressing her understanding that the number of property and assets held by Crown Subjects of all her realms within the Implaric Oceanic Territory will be duly protected and respected at all times. While endorsing the policy for the region, the Queen is determined that necessary due regard will be given to effect the absolute protection of Crown Subjects and property of Great Engellex, and the realms of Cantigny, Karoskland, Zadar-Istristria and Wightland.

Whatever might be the opinions of the Kingdom of Anglyn, the Kingdom of Suionia, the realms of Bombaim and Butuan, as to the direction of achieving democratic principles and self-determination within the region, there could be no doubt that in the matter of the Commonwealth’s lead on this matter, an effective leadership of a regional power was absolutely necessary. There will be many objections to this, but the proper place for their consideration is within an interview of assembled Cannie ministers, and therefore we will oppose the rather irrational decision to make this a security concern of alliances, which states are members of.

Her Engellexic Majesty, the Queen, admits to the Foreign Secretary of Franken that the efforts to fulfill this policy direction will be far from perfect, but it is requested that the Frankish Government have the Commonwealth receive credit for their fair and honourable intentions. It is suggested that the Frankish Kingdom to allow this cause to not be negatived, and at the same time declare intentions to bring this to the Anglysh Government for the development of a policy in support of the Commonwealth of Cantigny’s efforts.

By the Grace of GOD, of the UNION of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN, through the Right Honourable the SECRETARY of STATE, ANTHONY PELHAM-HOLLES

The situation in Bombiam is between the Khalsa Raj of Khalistan and the Kingdom of Anglyn in which the Commonwealth of Cantigny has no say in. This is seen by the Maharajah's government, not as a plan to empower the the individual realms of Oceania, but one designed to extend the influence of Vesper, and in extention that of Dulwich, across the Implarian and up to and including the gates of Khalistan.

The Patriotic Peoples of Bombaim should be made aware of the trend toward eternal tyranny, and the concentration of more and more power over their Proud Sons & Daughters through an imperial garrison state. It is the plan of Cantigny, as should be for all nations, to empower those people who live in unnatural oppression by utilizing democratic and honourable tactics. Until such a time that the Governments from Khalistan and Anglyn begin recognizing the will of their Patriotic & Dutiful Peoples, Cantigny and our many allies of liberty will persist this rightful cause.

It is the sole responsibility of His Majesty's government to insure the prosperity and security of Anglyn's overseas territories and not that of the Commonwealth of Cantigny, therefore any attempt to undermine the authority of His Majesty's government or the authority of the governments of those territories will not be tolerated.

Vangalan Trade Minister calls for more investment in developing nations

KILKILA (Reuters) - Vangalan Foreign Trade Biswajit Nabi today urged businesses to direct more investment to developing countries after the recent economic crisis in Bantyr, claiming countries like Vangala have been "ignored" because of "outdated stereotypes and prejudices". Speaking at a conference of foreign businessmen operating in the People's Republic, he also slammed Bantyr and the Northern Council nations for their "reckless" and "irresponsible" behaviour and demanded immediate action to limit the damage.

The speech is unlikely to cause the same controversy as earlier statements made by External Affairs Minister Ajoy Qamaruzzaman, who called for the Anglysh possession of Bombaim to be returned to Khalistan, sparking a regional diplomatic crisis. However, analysts say the speech was unimaginable a decade ago, when Vangala was desperately trying to lose its status as an international pariah and attempting to encourage foreign investment in the wake of free market reforms. Some are now beginning to see a new, more assertive Vangalan foreign policy, which will undoubtedly have important consequences for the region.

Sorlandet Government removes restrictions on domestic arms industry

ØSTFJORD (Reuters) - The country known for its neutrality in the currently ongoing campaigns of war in Gallia and Germania has removed restrictions over its vast indigenous defence industry to interact with foreign nations at war, or so say rumours sweeping the capital of Sørlandeten this morning. Though unsubstantiated as of now, the rumours of the removal of restrictions would allow domestic arms companies to simply submit prospective orders to the government for review and if approved to begin dealing with nations in supplying a series of weaponry and munitions.

While clinging firmly to its official policy of neutrality, the Government, it has been alleged, is seeking to boost the economy by increasing the profile of the defence industry, something considered unethical by some but having the quiet approval of economists as a sound policy during the uneasy times.

More on the story as it develops.
