    History
1200>late 1400 - it's a golden age for the Free City of Tergest, trading between himyar and the HFE and in the later part of the period take advantage of the christian crusades against the Pelasgian empire by providing transports via sea, and establishing trading posts on the other side of the Claret sea.

early 1500: friulian conties gain independence from the HFE after a series of battles.

Mid 1500s - late 1700s: House de Salustri unifies the Duchy of Friûl and the Duchy of Francatiare, taking some more land from the HFE, and forms the Grand Duchy of Furlanìe. The Free City of Tergest meanwhile suffers from the lack of safe trade with the north during these conflicts, and the now strong Pelasgian empire to the south limits its movement by sea, it is eventually unified with Furlanìe peacefully, with little resistance.

1800 - 1900: the Grand Duchy focuses on it's development, with a few trade-fuelled conflicts outside the nation. in the early 1800s, during and after the Aurarian revolution, tensions with Auraria are high, many Aurarians suspected of being rebels and instigators get banished from Furlanìe or killed.

1900s: people idealise the old glory of Tergest, litterature on the topic flourishes, there is more and more demand for action, for Furlanìe to become glorious as Tergest in the past, the Navy becomes a national focus, and foreign policy becomes more aggressive, in the late 1900s the military convinces the Grand Duke to support Caudillo Basurto and overthrow the democratic system of Auraria, in the hope of weakening the neighbour, considered a dangerous rival

early 2000s: with the fall of the Caudillo regime to the west and the communist takeover to the north, Furlanìe is left isolated from the rest of Gallia, and shifts its focus on Germania and Pelasgia
Furlanìe, meaning land of the Friulians, is the name to which the feudal lands south of Bourgogne and east of Lars have been called historically since the fall of the Tiburian empire.
Not all of the Grand Duchy si ethnically and culturally Friulian, with north-western border areas mostly Frankish, a significant German minority in the crowded cities of the south-east coast, and bilingual Friulian-Tiburan speakers along the north-east coast. (working on it)

My idea was to find the worst possible electoral law, so I took the first past the post system, other parties are possible and may exist, but for now at least, simply don't make it into parliament because people don't want to risk their votes to count nothing

    ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION

    Counties
The Grand Duchy is divided in Counties administered by a Ğonte Conteane, a small council historically composed by local barons and clergymen, From the 1980s the Ğonte Conteane expanded and is now composed both by barons and by elected representatives of the citizens in equal number. The Counts retain organisational powers.

    Exceptions:
The Ğonte in the County of Graudisçe is organised by a representative of the Crown elected by the Grand Duke.
The islands of Marinette and Saint Andrew(Sant Andrei) are formally under the County of Graudisçe, but form two smaller Ğontes composed by the barons of the various small castles on them. the two Ğontes advise the Crown representative of Graudisçe.
Bisiaçe is not a County, as it was historically territory of the Free City of Tergest. it has a local parliament and a Merìe Majôr (Grand Mayor), elected by the parliament, that has similar powers to those of the Count. the parliament has representatives of Bisiaçe and from the extra-Reman sea territories. The area is called Free City of Tergest/Vile Libare di Tergest instead of County, or just Bisiaçe.
Savalonut, Corifô, Trîri and Tergestute, although with some local autonomy, are considered part of Bisiaçe.

    Duchies
The Counties are part of two bigger areas, the Duchy of Francatiare (north-west) and the Duchy of Friuli (south-east).
The two areas are only an historical division, and only recently gained some administrative importance, but they do delimit the Friulian part of Furlanìe, and the more Frankish-Friulian culturally mixed north.
