Joint Fighter Aircraft Consortium, Varden Straits Commission

Originally conceived of as a joint project of cooperation between the Andal and Gallegan Commonwealth militaries, the need for a strong and capable 4.5-generation fighter aircraft to help police the Varden Straits and defend the interests of the Long Sea's democracies became evident with rising tensions in the period leading up to the Varden Straits Commission's foundation. The Joint Fighter Aircraft Consortium was established by the Joint Naval Council of the Varden Straits Commission from the Gallegan state-owned Republic Aviation and Cruz y Ciro Aerospace, the premier Andal aerospace contractor. The requirements for long-range interception combined with a highly-agile close-range fighter led to the development of a supremely effective dogfighter and over-the-horizon weapons platform equally. Within Gallega, the aircraft is referred to as the Republic S-V.82 Bodauda, named for the mythical and historical Celtic shieldmaidens of the ancient and medieval period in Gallega's history: a class of elite and relentless warriors known for having produced the semi-historical Queen Nemhain and Queen Maeve, both responsible for mounting successful defenses against invading armies by temporarily uniting the myriad states of Early Middle Ages Gallega. In service with the Andal Commonwealth's air forces, the aircraft is known as the A/-I-82 Guerrera, a name with a similar connotation in the Andal language. As a result of the long period of tensions in the Long Sea and the status of Gallega and Andaluz as the only liberal republics in the Long Sea region, an area prone to conflict between authoritarian states, the Varden Straits Commission established between the two nations saw as paramount the continued openness of the Varden Straits and a strategic role of preventing the influencing through intimidation of either nation by autocratic powers such as the Southern Tiburan Empire and Kadikistan. The program was originally commissioned in 1984 and saw active service by the 1990s.

Several variants of the Bodauda-Guerrera have since been produced, including variants unique to either Gallega and Andaluz's specifications and needs, symbolized by mark numbers, and while development was shared, production of the aircraft occurs in each respective nation. While subsequent iterations of the aircraft has had it transition to a multirole platform as opposed to pure air superiority, it is still generally referred to as a sophisticated aircraft with high agility at both low and supersonic speeds, advanced avionics, map displays and radar. Recent iterations have explored methods of reducing radar cross-sections. The Bodauda Mk.5 is currently the only navalized version of the Bodauda-Guerrera, designed to operate from short take-off and landing situations such as from isolated island airfields or the Commonwealth Navy's , where they excel both for defense and force-projection due to their combat radius of 1,389 km. In 2017, the government of Gallega authorized Republic Aviation to sell the Gallic Bodauda fighter variants to select eligible nations.
