The Two Kingdoms of Jyskerige and Østveg have remained witness to the disorderly manner in which events have proceeded over the past weeks and wish to convey its hopes for a better future for the region that is not marred in disease and conflict anxiety. With the confusing departure of Eiffelland-Retalia from the region, there are few links to the “Old Cradle of Civilization” aside from the Engellexic Republic which does not maintain many relations with the far reaches of the world. This could leave Markland with trouble communicating or trading with other regions. While trade is not always the primary point of interest for peoples, especially while the threat of pestilence lurks on Marklandic shores no thanks to illicit trade, the Two Kingdoms see themselves as friends to your region as your nations have often had history with our Kingdoms.

This message is delivered to all your governments rather than individually because we wish to offer a hospital ship from the Royal Navy. It will be available for your service, but will not depart from Austwegian shores until requested. Additionally, our Government wishes to explore the idea of a Marklandic Trade Agreement (MTA) that would be centered around neutral Jyskerige-Østveg with a headquarters either in Gothenhagen or a to be determined location in Østveg.

The purpose of such a MTA is for the development of the Marklandic market, and to allow easy trade between Marklandic partners. Additionally, the agreement would recognize the neutrality of the Two Kingdoms, awhile the Two Kingdoms would agree to non-interference in military matters in the Marklandic region. Furthermore, a permanent diplomatic presence could be established in the Two Kingdoms by all MTA-states that would allow for coordinated diplomatic volleys to nations such as Eiffelland-Retalia, or to avoid policy miscues.

Of course all of these ideas are up for debate and for changes or new inclusions. It is the hope of the Two Kingdoms that our nations can come together to some kind of basic arrangement.

The Grand Covenant continues to welcome all support from international medical sources, however we cannot confidently guarantee the safety of these personnel in Vesper or their vessels at sea; Cantignian Naval Forces, along with the Land Army, have stood down in order to ease and eliminate tensions with incoming Engellexian and Cussian forces.

Concerning formal trade agreements: we are amenable to the beginning of such talks, and are desperate to achieve market norms in the seeable future, and hopeful for favorable market activity in the distant future. We cannot however predict the fate of our nation for the coming days with a gradually growing disease crisis, or the existence of domestic and international actors seeking our immediate destruction.

May God bless the Two Kingdoms for reaching out and risking in our time of turmoil, and may God guide our Kingdoms towards peaceful providence in the days and weeks to come.

To whom it may concern,

First, let it be known that the basic sentiment expressed by the Two Kingdoms is highly laudable. The historical relationship between the Occident and the Two Kingdoms has historically been warm indeed, and an exploration of this relationship further is surely something that all the Occident would find beneficial.

Even so, it would appear to the Union that this proposal - at least in its current form - is a touch presumptuous. Though the Union cannot speak for its compatriots in Charleroi, Vesper, or Welmonton, it should be made clear that Swanfleet will not support what would essentially be a Pan-Occidental trade union to be headquartered in or in any fashion made the tool of a non-Occidental power. The emancipated new world remembers well the tyranny of the east, and the intrepid, pioneering spirit of the Occident owes its successes wholly to its own virtue and industry. That hard-won prosperity of the Occidental Engellosphere will not be subverted, co-opted, or uncaringly piggybacked by the Old World.

While the intention of the Two Kingdoms to serve as an arbiter and negotiator between the Occidental powers is a noble one, it is the view of the Union that such a function is not required. What do foreign hearts and foreign minds know of the exceptional Occidental spirit? Why should Cussian, Senecan, Sylvanian, and Cantignian each make their way to the Old World to engage in kinsmen’s discourse?

The proposal has merit on its surface. Perhaps, were it implemented in some form, the Two Kingdoms might even be made privy to it. Yet, any such agreement must be made on the terms of the Occident - not on those of the Old World.

Excellency,

It would be unthinkable to begin our own response in any way other than to first thank the Two Kingdoms for their equanimity and magnanimity in this endeavor, and all recent dealings with the Confederated Republic of Beautancus and Her Peoples. The present political climate around the world has been far less than conducive to the best trade practices, and we are all perhaps shorter on willingness to trust in the goodwill of strangers than we have in the past been. It is therefore very welcome indeed to be greeted with proposals of such like-minded interest as this, in nearly every regard.

We appreciate that our common position of Engellkin & Occidental Exceptionalism can oft leave little room for error or misinterpretation otherwise, and in acknowledging this we find it reciprocally commendable and remarkable that the Two Kingdoms are so consistently able to successfully navigate to just, positive, profitable and most importantly - truthful - results in dealings with Our Kindred Nations. It is our desire that this should continue to be the manner in which we build the best future for the world entire, together - a more humane, just and Civilized world in which those nations with proper foresight may take their rightful places as the responsible leaders in our great human endeavor.

We must, and do echo the sentiment of our neighbors and partners in Swanfleet however, that any essentially or largely Occidental trade union must, by very nature of economic and financial gravity, be pulled into the Continental sphere. We again acknowledge the oft difficult nature in dealing with Occidental Exceptionalism that so defines each and all of us, national pride dictating from each that should see such an honor bestowed only upon our own Fatherland - which will leave us all none the further ahead for it.

Therefore - Welmonton would very much like to agree, however provisionally, with the spirit and intended result of this proposal - but perhaps with the amendment that an entirely new landmass, an island, be created ex nihilo, to serve our mutual purposes as a condominium of custom and finance. Failing immediate agreement in this regard, the Confederate Republic is committed to cooperation with the Two Kingdoms and our Engellkin kindred to such degree that Welmonton would be willing to host, or finance further and more formalized negotiations to realize some mutually agreeable and profitable resolution to expanded and systematized custom and trade between our two hemispheric spheres of influence.

With my highest regard and reverence,

Sir Endymion Victavio Walker, State Foreign Service Secretary,

A heartfelt thanks to the Two Kingdoms for this proposal, a proposal that the Continental Republic of Sylvania is very open to, while we do not have issue diplomatically communicating with the world (other than Engellex) we are very open to a trade agreement that could benefit the New World and the Two Kingdoms.

However we must agree with the sentiments of our New World neighbors when it comes to the location of headquarters and while they do not put forward a solid idea as to where it should be located, we will. This MTA should be centered in Charleroi, a world class city that is connected not only with the rest of the New World but with the Old World as well. We are willing to set aside land that would be designated as neutral ground for all agreement members to operate in.

The Two Kingdoms of Jyskerige and Østveg have put a great deal of thought and preparation for such questions raised by the wide variety of Marklandic nations. The most common of course appears to be a question that is twofold: Why should an Occidental trade group need a such to say Old World nation, and why should such a group be placed in the Old World?

In trying to abide to the norms of Occam’s razor, the most simplistic of answers is that this is not just an organization designed to be inflexible or single purposed. The goal of this organization would be to expand to include other Engellkin nations, friends, and Nordic partners aswell as the Occident’s appetite for foreign trade increases. Why should such an organization exist in Gøthehavn? The idea stems from the fact that our Two Kingdoms are Europe’s most well-recognized neutral nation, and as such, the location of the headquarters would indicate no bias towards any Marklandic nation.

Is this stipulation a demand? No, nor is such neutrality required if the parties agree upon it.

We can also offer a compromise in which Queen Ragnhild Land which is well positioned in the Thaumantic as a middle point. Otherwise, the Two Kingdom’s would be open to voting for a headquarters between all candidate locations. Thus far considered from at least three nations who have expressed interest.

In the meanwhile, it would also be acceptable for a conference to be held on the continent to discuss matters quickly as so volunteered by the Cussian Government.

Firstly, we would like to apologize in delaying in responding to your queries. We now know that we may have been mistaken in our need to have the trade headquarters in Westernesse. These past few weeks, as crisis has gripped our shores and now passed us by, the need for a presence in a neutral land is now apparent to us. While the facilitation of trade between the nations of Westernesse is not particularly needed, we see the MTA as a stepping off point for further trade into the old world and as a way to strengthen the ties between the Continental Republic and the Two Kingdoms. We will happily agree to, with approval by congress, join the MTA and agree to the construction of a headquarters Gothenhagen. Should the MTA fall through, due to disagreement from the rest of Westernesse, we would ask that the Two Kingdoms and the Continental Republic strike out on their own to create a free trade agreement favorable to our two nations alone.
