Updated for Eiffelland-Retalia

Legal status of alcohol: Legal. The sale of alcohol is restricted to supermarkets (only the sale of beer and wine allowed), dedicated beer shops (only beer), dedicated wine shops (only wine), liquor stores (beer, wine and liquors) and of course in hotels, restaurants, cafés, pubs and night clubs (beer, wine and liquors).
It has to be mentioned that Continental Eiffellandians, Rügeners and Helgolanders generally frown upon getting drunk. Getting drunk is OK when you are between 18 and 30 years old, but after your 30th birthday you loose your face and dignity when getting drunk. But also before 30 years of age, Eiffellandians tend to not drink very much, because they generally don't like to loose control. As a result, Continental Eiffellandians, Helgolanders and Rügeners are generally not really alcohol-resistant. Retalians are more relaxed about getting drunk.
There is also a special situation regarding alcohol during the Lenten season (the period between Ash Wednesday and Easter). During that period, Continental Eiffellandians, Rügeners and Helgolanders only drink alcohol on Sundays, when they do not have to fast. From Monday to Saturday, bars, pubs, cafés, restaurants, hotels and clubs don't serve alcohol. This is not an issue in Retalia.
The bars, pubs, cafés and clubs in Köln have a tradition to usher in the Sunday during the Lenten season: The bartenders already accept orders for alcoholic beverages five minutes before midnight, so that everyone who wishes so has something alcoholic at midnight. Then at midnight, everybody yells “Happy Sunday”, toasts with each other and takes a nip of their beverages.

Legal drinking age:
12 years for beer and wine in presence of the parents; 16 for beer and wine without presence of the parents; 18 years for liquors.

Average price of beverage per litre (supermarkets, beer shops, wine shops, liquor stores) (€M)
(1 Euromark = 1 RL US Dollar): €M 0.50 to €M 2.00 per 0.33 litre bottle or can for beer (depending on the quality); €M 4.50 to > €M 100.00 per 0.75 litre bottle for wine (depending on the quality); €M 25.00 to > €M 200.00 per 0.75 litre bottle for liquors (depending on the quality; especially high quality Gunnish whiskys can be very expensive).
It is forbidden to make special offerings with alcoholic beverages.

Average price of beverage per litre (bars, pubs, cafés, restaurants, hotels and clubs) (€M)
(1 Euromark = 1 RL US Dollar): €M 2.00 to €M 4.00 per 0.3 litre glass for beer (depending on the quality); €M 2.50 to > €M 15.00 per 0.15 litre glass for wine (depending on the quality); €M 3.00 to > €M 10.00 per glass for liquors (depending on the quality).
It is forbidden to organise happy hours (e.g. two for the price of one).

Estimated % of population who have tried alcohol:
80%

Estimated % of population who drink regularly:
75%, when one beer or wine at Friday night to start the weekend and one or two glasses of wine during dinners with friends or at the restaurant are considered regular.

Most popular alcoholic beverages:
Beer and wine. Silas Keith's whisky and Alexander Gunn's whisky are quite popular as well, but not as popular as beer or wine.

Legal status of drugs:
Illegal, and severely prosecuted against. Drug dealing is punished as attempt to murder; drug possession is punished with large fines. The government is going to work on a proposal to legalise hash and marihuana.

Average price of substance per gram (€M):
Unknown.

Estimated % of population who have tried drugs:
10%.

Estimated % of population who use drugs regularly:
< 1%

Most popular recreational drugs:
Hash, marihuana, blud.

Legal status of prostitution: Legal. Minimum age of prostituants is 18 years.

Legal status of homosexuality:
Legal everywhere in the country. The prohibition of homosexual intercourse in Helgoland was lifted in 2019 to stimulate tourism. Tolerance towards homosexuality is generally high in the cities with 100,000 inhabitants and more, quite low in rural areas and in Rügen, and almost absent in Helgoland (although the situation is starting to improve).

Legal status of bestiality:
Not specifically prosecuted, but procecuted as animal cruelty.

Legal status of divorce:
Legal.

Legal status of extra-marital or pre-marital sex:
Legal.

Age of consent:
16 years in Retalia and Continental Eiffelland; 16 for straight sex and 18 for gay sex in Rügen and Helgoland, as well as all the islands ruled from Rügen or Helgoland.

Average daily wage of a sex worker (€M):
€M 200.

Estimated % of population who have used prostitutes:
30%

Legal age of purchase for tobacco: 18.

Restrictions on sale (e.g. is advertising banned or must they be hidden or sold in specialist stores with a license?):
Advertising forbidden. Supermarkets, magazine shops, gas stations, shops dedicated to tobacco, pubs, bars, cafés, restaurants, hotels and clubs are allowed to sell tobacco. Packages are all uniform: 30% of the surface is reserved for scary pictures about what smoking can do to you, 30% of the surface is reserved for warning texts and telephone numbers of help lines for quitting smoking, 10% may be used for the brand name, and the remainder is coloured in a very ugly mixture of brown and green.

Restrictions on smoking: Smoking is only allowed in the open air (minimally 10 meters from building entrances), specially dedicated smoking rooms, private houses and private cars. Of course smoking is not allowed outdoors, either, when in a fire-risky situation, or at fuel-stations (especially not while filling the fuel tank of a car); safety regulations are very stringent and very strict in Eiffelland-Retalia.

Average price in Euromarks (€M) for a 20-pack of cigarettes or 20 grams of tobacco:
€M 10.00.

Legal status of alcohol: Legal
Legal drinking age: Technically, the States are free to pass their own restrictions, but the Commonwealth System has passed a law that declared any state not in compliance with the below restrictions - at minimum - would lose transportation funding.
Any - No restriction placed on individuals drinking at home under supervision of an adult
16 - Purchase at restaurants if an individual 25+ is at the table
18 - Purchase in stores or solo in restaurants
Average price of beverage per litre (€M) (1 Euromark = 1 RL US Dollar): €M5 (beer), €M12 (wine), €M19 (spirits)
Estimated % of population who have tried alcohol: 85%
Estimated % of population who drink regularly: 70%
Most popular alcoholic beverages: Beer, Whiskey, Rum

Legal status of drugs: Legal (manufacturing rights under heavy regulation)
Average price of substance per gram (€M): €M25 (cocaine), €4.50 (marijuana) - Heavy sin taxes artificially increase prices.
Estimated % of population who have tried drugs: 51%
Estimated % of population who use drugs regularly: 21%
Most popular recreational drugs: Marijuana, Cocaine

Legal status of prostitution: No Commonwealth-wide law, varies by State. Most areas it is legal with strict regulation to protect against exploitation and spread of STDs.
Legal status of homosexuality: Traditional acceptance of homosexuality results in little legal address. Marriages are a civil institution and no government makes any distinction between sex, nor deny to such families any rights.
Legal status of bestiality: No Commonwealth-wide law exists, but all 15 States have made it illegal.
Legal status of divorce: Legal, States issue marriage licenses and it is just as easy to get one as it is to revoke one.
Legal status of extra-marital or pre-marital sex: The religious pressure to not have sex before marriage is not present in Clarenthia and thus, while the concept is known, it is not considered a legal matter. Sex isn't considered an activity tied to love or marriage.
Age of consent: No Commonwealth-wide law exists, but all States have established a limit of 16 with varying romeo and juliet laws.
Average daily wage of a sex worker (€M): €250 (woman), €350 (man)
Estimated % of population who have used prostitutes: 26% estimated.

Legal age of purchase for tobacco: Age 18
Restrictions on sale (e.g. is advertising banned or must they be hidden or sold in specialist stores with a license?): Television advertisements are permitted at certain hours of the day, but contain a graphic health warning. Public advertising is banned but points of sales may have brand displayed. All boxes contain a graphic public health warning.
Restrictions on smoking: Smoking is more socially stigmatized than it is legally. State laws vary greatly, but generally smoking is banned from public parks, restaurants, and areas where it could cause a safety hazard. Many areas have designated smoking areas.
Average price in Euromarks (€M) for a 20-pack of cigarettes or 20 grams of tobacco: ≈ €7, but States and municipalities can have varying sin taxes so the average actual price is closer to €10

Data collected, analysed and published by the Social Knowledge think tank

Legal status of alcohol: legal - underage drinking punishable by fines of €M50-200
Legal drinking age: 15 for beer and wine; 19 for liquor
Average price of beverage per litre (€M) (1 Euromark = 1 RL US Dollar): Beer €M5-8; Wine: €M15-30; liquor €M30-70
Estimated % of population who have tried alcohol: 91% (if you don't drink you are either considered socially outcast or you're a Moslem)
Estimated % of population who drink regularly: 82%
Most popular alcoholic beverages: Beer, whiskey. Wine typically only enjoyed by upper classes for status purposes.

Legal status of drugs: STRICTLY ILLEGAL - certain districts have limited enforcement
Average price of substance per gram (€M): Marijuana €M20; Cocaine €M70 (average prices are high due to smuggling being punishable by the death penalty without appeal).
Estimated % of population who have tried drugs: 17%
Estimated % of population who use drugs regularly: 11% (but they are filthy rich and keep the drug economy moving along nicely)
Most popular recreational drugs: cocaine

Legal status of prostitution: legal - workers must pay into state pension scheme, Johns have fee added onto the standard service fee reserved for healthcare and pension contributions of workers
Legal status of homosexuality: not mentioned in legal code but accepted by vast majority as normal. Some religious groups (Moslems, Hindus, Orthodox Jews) frown upon it but don't usually speak out against it publicly.
Legal status of bestiality: STRICTLY ILLEGAL - classified as gross animal cruelty. First offence: €M20,000 fine AND 2 years imprisonment on a vegan diet with carefully supervised rehabilitation programmes caring for animals (most Nedernesians LOVE meat). Second offence: €50,000 fine AND 5 years imprisonment with same programme as for first offence. Third offence: death penalty with appeal possible.
Legal status of divorce: no fault, no cause divorce. Prenuptial agreements are required by law. Religious marriages permitted on traditional grounds but are not recognised by the state. Marriage licenses and ceremony performed with a justice of the peace required to be state recognised.
Legal status of extra-marital or pre-marital sex: permitted and considered necessary before marriage.
Age of consent: 14 with no restrictions between age groups
Average daily wage of a sex worker (€M): depends on 'service class' and age of worker. Younger workers (under 30) attract double pay by default. Common street workers - female: €M900; male: €M1150. High class workers with 'Pleasure House' and Madam typically go through years of training at the Academy of Professional Pleasure Makers - female: €M3000; male: €M5000 (both classes of sex workers pay a percentage of daily earnings to their Madam and House. Rates are negotiated individually and are based on performance and popularity).
Estimated % of population who have used prostitutes: 67% (it's common for teenagers to lose their virginity to a sex worker as part of their birthday celebrations and to remove nervousness for proper dating and relationships. Single people middle class and up will often use sex workers 3-5 times a month as many people are too busy to date properly. Married people who aren't religious typically have open relationships and seeing a sex worker every few months is considered healthy to keep the marriage happy and stable).

Estimated % of population who drink regularly: 50%
Most popular alcoholic beverages: (light) beer, bourbon
