Misconceptions of Communists and the growth of Thaumantic trade
[GØTHEHAVN] - While many could understandably consider Gøthehavn the center of the financial world, a lot of major players due maintain massive roles in a variety of regions. Economic growth in the Occident (known as Markland in the Two Kingdoms, and henceforth referred to that in this article) has a variety of cities there all vying for the banner role as the economic crown jewel of Markland. While the Cradle of Civilization, referred to as the Old World in many outlets, with some notable exceptions such as Engellex and Scania, has experienced a great deal of economic turbulence due to the warfare in the region, the war is coming to a close and the victors are clearly decided. Calls of a new Socialist World Order have been declared by many, but it is not clear if such a thing will exactly come to terms. What does that even mean? More reactionary outlets have declared the Socialist nations as without an economy, but it is clear that the military victory has seen renewed strong economic growth in Kadikistan and the general Rurikgrad Pact member states.
What exactly does the economic status of the world look like? In the the more capitalist economic world, which includes Scania, Markland, Himyar, Engellex, and parts of Germania/Gaulia, economic growth is strongly based around the Thaumantic. With the destruction of many portions of the Cradle, a lot of the economic strength of the region has shifted westward. Of course the economic prowess of Eiffelland-Retalia is not to be ignored, and most analysts expect them to bounce back strongly once their post-war strategies have been solidified. However, the alliance that dominated the capitalist world is no longer the beacon of the ideology.
Meanwhile the Rurikgrad Pact has a very contained economy. Trade with the “west” is left to direct trades. For example Kadikistan’s vodka might find itself directly traded for cola from Sylvania. Thus measuring economics competitively is difficult, despite the efforts in many in some nations to do so. Although the Rurikgrad Pact is not entirely dogmatic, as seen in the major oil contract made between Nordoil and Serenierre earlier this year. That said, the foreign policy of the Two Kingdoms is not confrontational with the Rurikgrad Pact.
Thus markets which were strained earlier by the losses incurred by the Eiffellander led Trier Concord, now find themselves returning to growth centered around the Thaumantic and it remains to be seen who the biggest economic winners will be. The only thing that is known is that the heavily Thaumantic based Engellexic Republic features front and center in this economic growth, and with it the increased responsibility for policing the seaways that link the global economy. ■

Crisis develops between a motherland and her children, is there a role for an estranged fatherland?
[GØTHEHAVN] - The Folketing (Parliament) held limited debate on the topic of the Engellpox which has dominated discussion in Marklandic countries over the last days. Currently a quarantine exists around Engellex property in Cantignia, with Engellexic citizens bundled into the premises over fear of a most heinous disease. Thus far the Olsen Government has yet to take any stance in the situation which prompted this afternoons discussion. While the actions taken by the Cantignian Government would usually be seen as deplorable, the question of a public health crisis has suddenly made an exception to our understanding of what is deemed acceptable at a foreign house, or embassy.
The deplorable vantage point was certainly how the situation was viewed in Engellex as ties were cut off between the Republics and Cantignia, as well as Sylvania.

[GØTHEHAVN] - Emergency meetings within the Olsen Government took place today as the crisis in Markland has only expanded since the initial reports of an Engellpox. The reasons for the meetings weren’t announced, but news of disagreement between Marklandic nations in diplomatic responses and relations to foreign nations have quickly turned to threats of violence.
The most recent events that have stunned Scanian commentators is the Cussian attitude towards the Eiffelland-Retalian delegations which have battled with harsh words that quickly turned into a case of insults and threats of aggression. Noted Political Commentator, PhD Nicolas Jørgensen from the University of Gothenhagen summed it up simply on JTV2’s political panel show: “It is quite clear that the Cussians just do not wish to tolerate foreign interference in Markland from outside of the bounds of those they consider friendly to them, or at the very least trust to do the right thing. The Cussians do not trust everyone around the world, and their trust must be earned through deeds, not rhetoric. The Eiffellanders, as of course many on the continent tend to, took their words as stinging challenges on their authority. This has led to our current exchange of attacks that have focused on economics. Neither side communicated their true impressions of what happened. Neither tried to understand the other. That is the nature of foreign politics. It operates in a state of pure anarchy as there are no true laws that govern international politics. If we cannot find a way to help, then we do not see a reason to intervene.”

A QUESTION OF MORALITY? A QUESTION OF LOVE?
Princess Ulrika seen close with Azraqi Royal causing commotion back home
[GØTHEHAVN] - The question of mixed race coupling in the Two Kingdoms is something that has been portrayed often as a scene from a colonial era. The story is one of forbidden love, and often ending in tragedy as the non-white man or woman finds themselves killed. Mixed race relationships factually were quite common in colonial settings, as men often married whatever woman they could find. Their children might come back to the homeland, but often were treated like anyone else. As the generations go by, these old colonial persons slowly fade away into the national character.
Immigration is not that common to the Two Kingdoms, and thus the coupling of mixed races ended with the end of colonialism. This phenomenon is not so unique, as migration of peoples is not common in this world whatsoever.
This does not mean it is not frowned upon in the modern sense. Typically conservative commentators will speak of their disappointment, as there is a sense of belief that this should not happen for the good health of a family. Thus when one goes abroad, they are recommended to not bring anyone back. The instance of this occurring is so rare that it is not even in the national dialog until today.
Princess Ulrika has been spotted with an unknown Azraqi royal man, on several occasions leading to speculation that they may be seeing each other. This has set the tabloid papers in a frenzy and the topic of mixed race relations ablaze over the last week. The social commentary has become large enough that the topic is now considered newsworthy.
Ulrika herself is stylized as Princess of Sørmland. She’s quite young at the age of 24, but notably not in direct line to the throne, as noted by the succession crisis that occurred just over six months ago. Her antics are still followed and she is a well-known philanthropist, traveling to many countries around the world to speak out against world hunger crises. Instead, she finds herself in the national conversation for a different reason. The Royal Family has refused to speak on her accord, and refused to issue a statement longer than a sentence: “The Royal Family has no news on the work or commitments of the Princess of Sørmland.”

CATASTROPHE IN CANTIGNIA
Military assault on Engellexic compound considered not-so friendly fire
[VESPER, Cantignia] - In the early morning, the Grand Covenent’s Foreign Office was able to confirm that Engellexic Helicopters attacked their own embassy complex killing all occupants which is to include their own ambassador. The attack from Cantignian sources on the ground seem to give the impression that there are no survivors, or if there are any, it is not in the interests of the Grand Covenent to search for them, with the threat of fire, potentially unexploded ordinance, and even their own worries of disease still at risk.
The Two Kingdom’s Embassy has been closed since the outbreak with only essential personnel going to the office occasionally. Thus far no nationals from the Two Kingdoms have been diagnosed with the Engellpox, of which no one is quite sure if it is some kind of flu or measles related virus.
Ambassador to Cantignia, Morten Rasmussen has been busy walking the beat trying to comfort and speak with Cannie citizens and offering free wool blankets. “It would be avoiding our responsibility as Jysk to fail to confront the potential for mass human suffering here. The actions taken by the Engellexic are their own solution to human suffering. I will carry forth the Nordic vision for how to care for those who need it. I will ask the Cantignian Government if we may offer free vaccines to those who need it most, it is my understanding that the Olsen Government is willing to help wherever Vesper will allow it.”
Thus far the Olsen Government has not actually said much publicly about what they are willing to do during this crisis.
Hearts and minds across Europe remain with the victims in this catastrophe, but so far no nations wish to confront the Engellexic and their methods. Engellexic stocks have taken hits over the last week due to the question of the epicenter of the disease and if shipments of Engellexic products may continue to transmitt the disease further. Most experts don’t believe this is a possibility due to long transit times are at sea in poor conditions for diseases to survive. Instead the question of stowaways or illicit human trafficking has been raised by many experts, but ignored by most governments.
The Olsen Government has stated that despite the regrettable sequence of events, Gøthehavn would not take any action despite the call by human rights groups in the Two Kingdoms for the government to condemn the tragedy. Neutrality is the key focus of the foreign policy of the Two Kingdoms, and public opinion has endorsed non-involvement on most actions in order to maintain this status, as confirmed by the campaigns during the last election.
World markets as a whole have been slightly down over the period of this crisis, and further turbulence should not help the situation. ■

Hearts and minds across Europe remain with the victims in this catastrophe, but so far no nations wish to confront the Engellexic and their methods. Engellexic stocks have taken hits over the last week due to the question of the epicenter of the disease and if shipments of Engellexic products may continue to transmitt the disease further. Most experts don’t believe this is a possibility due to long transit times are at sea in poor conditions for diseases to survive. Instead the question of stowaways or illicit human trafficking has been raised by many experts, but ignored by most governments.
The Olsen Government has stated that despite the regrettable sequence of events, Gøthehavn would not take any action despite the call by human rights groups in the Two Kingdoms for the government to condemn the tragedy. Neutrality is the key focus of the foreign policy of the Two Kingdoms, and public opinion has endorsed non-involvement on most actions in order to maintain this status, as confirmed by the campaigns during the last election.
World markets as a whole have been slightly down over the period of this crisis, and further turbulence should not help the situation. ■

Setting the record straight and understanding the Justosian attack of words
[GØTHEHAVN] - A question of terminology with one of Europe’s largest propaganda outlets, sparked a diplomatic row between the Two Kingdom’s and the Justosians. Citizens of the realm woke up to news that the Two Kingdom’s were attacked with a large range of profane words after a diplomatic correction was issued by the foreign office. The conflict is one that is not unique to the Two Kingdom’s as bouts of rage and anger from the Southeastern Kingdom are well documented.
Understanding the conflict requires an understanding of what bothered the Foreign Office enough to issue to a correction of a foreign media outlet, and furthermore understanding what exactly bothered the Justosians.
The crux of the spat begins with the famed propaganda outlet JNN (Justosian News Network), issuing a statement on being the Heart of Protestant Europe. Presumptions and further diplomatic communications prompted such a clarification on term Protestant which is often used erroneously by the Justosians. Engellkin English professor from Gothenhagen University Timothy Johnson clarified, “The term Protestant is one that has broad meaning. It cannot be used without the understanding that Protestant is a term that has meaning beyond its direct word. It is a reference to Protestantism, and despite the fact we understand that English is maybe not the strong suit of all nations in Europe, this is quite obvious. The apparent usage of the word propaganda outlet has angered the Justosians anyhow. Yet we must count apples as apples, and not as oranges. The news outlet JNN is considered by a vast majority of Europeans as exactly that, a propaganda outlet. How and why is not something of considerable debate. There are not two sides to every story, and in this case there is only one. JNN is a propaganda outlet. The reasons for this are several, as we can see JNN is not reporting with any ounce of even attempted neutrality in their reporting. JNN has unfettered access to the government, and speaks on behalf of the government. The case in point, is that when Foreign Minister Hegerberg rebuked JNN something interesting happened, an threat upon JNN was considered an attack upon the government. Immediately the Justosian Government issued a claim that the two nations were no longer friendly.
We asked for clarification from the Foreign Office on the relations between the Two Kingdoms and Justosia. [AVALON, Justosia] - The Justosian Kingdom has come under the microscope over the last day due to the diplomatic disagreement between the Gøthehavn and Avalon. Gøthehavn itself has not issued a public statement, as its reported the Government has had several meetings, including one with the Queen, who usually is not involved in politics. As a result, foreign correspondents in Justosia have been required to find more to report on.
Enter Gothia’s own Marit Austrheim Engeli. She has worked in the Himyar region for the past three years. Arriving in Justosia early today when news first broke, she began to try to interview and report the status on the ground in Justosia. “Everything seemed fine,” she began teary eyed. Her long blonde hair braided to shorten its length. She continued, “but there is a certain rhetoric here. Some guys got wind of the fact I work for Gothia, they harassed me and I knew things started to feel a bit off. I tried to wrap up my work at the coffee shop I was in and get out but I was pinned to a wall and touched. They pulled off my shirt and started to grab at my breasts. They called me a Nordic Catholic pig. My photographer and my driver found me and chased them away. This is considered rape in the Two Kingdoms. We decided to get out of Justosia as quickly as we could and made contact with the embassy.”
Marit is from Østveg, and part of the Gothia’s team of journalists that travel the world. The attack is the first she can describe that has happened in her three years working with Gothia.
It is unlikely that the Two Kingdoms’ Embassy can lodge much of a complaint. Rumors suggest they are busy trying to prepare the embassy for being shut down with the recent threats made by the Justosian Foreign Ministry.

First I must say it is so good to finally have an exchange with you. Though I do wish it was under lighter circumstances.
I couldn't agree more that fellow crowned heads, & the nations they lead must stick together. Though I must ask you, respectfully, where was this sentiment when your government rejected our proposed Crown Alliance?
I tell you now I see it as near sighted to sever relations with a fellow monarchist nation. The words of Mr. Johnson, which remain extremely false & disrespectful, have been rebutted sufficiently I believe. So too have the false accusations made against Justosia News Nationale. Our relations will stand.
I further believe negotiations for apologies, be they mutual of otherwise, will further deepen this unfortunate hole. For this I give you my word I will personally discuss this matter with Minister Torres. It won't happen again. Know however, he will remain in his position. As you must know, the Two Kingdoms of Jyskerige and Østveg were also once a Great Scanian Empire. During our period of Empire we spanned the globe in search of trade and territory. Of course such an Empire was perhaps too heavy for a nation with the population as small as the Two Kingdoms possess, and it came crashing down in 1828. Afterwards our losses quite steep, we learned that we did not have the manpower to dictate terms as an Empire. We also did not have the manpower to stage wars of conquest or intervention without severe loss to our home.
Thus after 1828 we have embarked on a path of peace and with this neutrality. This tradition of neutrality is one older than I, and older than the ministers of the Olsen Government; however, the Government takes this tradition of neutrality seriously. Unfortunately we cannot embark on a Crowned Alliance due to this tradition. I can tell you this however. I am so happy with our dialogue that I believe something can be done, and I promise you the next message you recieve from Foreign Minister Hegerberg will be far kinder, and of great interest to the economic and security ambitions of your Holy Kingdom.
As for your last inquiry, I must answer no. I mean no disrespect to the passionate culture of your people, but my culture acts quite differently in the face of conflict. Nordic culture usually dictates restraint on outbursts of emotions, with the exception of perhaps to our loved ones. Some may believe us heartless, but it is not within our culture to seek any sort of attention that may illicit some sort of attention in public. We hate nothing more than an awkward moment in public, and refraining our emotions helps that. I hope no offense is taken, but this is the nature of our people. Perhaps 100% opposite to the culture you are accustomed to.

The people in Finner og Isørerne battle the return of winter
[LYNDANISSE] - Leaving for the Finner og Isørerne (Finner and the Ice Islands) is usually done at dusk at this time of year. It’s important to keep in mind that dusk is only at 15:00. The lack of sun light is disturbing for foreigners, but a normal thing for the natives of Waldemarsudde who consider themselves the center city in the Gothic Sea’s trade. The ferry that goes north to Lyndanisse leaves once a day, a usually doesn’t find itself completely full in the late autumn and winter months. Mostly the ferry is used for commercial trade between the far reaches of the realm and Waldemarsudde, the Two Kingdom’s most important port city in the Gothic.
I talked to the captain of the ferry, Markus Johansson about what it was like to sail back and forth. “You can’t worry too much about the journey. Icebreakers do the dangerous work when they need to. Occasionally a rogue iceberg might come along, but we usually know because the Royal Navy does that job for us.”
Captain Johansson mentioned a saying he learned from the previous captain, that comes from Engellexic literature, “Second star to the right and on until morning.”
The phrase has come to mean the direct matter of how to get to their next port city, known as Lyndanisse.
The people of Finner og Isørerne have a peculiar way to call themselves. “Fra Finner,” they say as you ask them where they come from. It’s a simple way to call themselves as natives. In fact, there is no other denonym. It started as a dragatory means to call the people who originally called themselves from the towns they came from. Nowadays its worn as a badge of honor. An interesting way to fight the forces of colonialism.
It should not be mistaken that this is a colony of the Two Kingdoms. Nords have come to settle here over the past 300 years, and much of the culture of the region has been lost. Their insertion into the Folketing is something of a last step, in the colonial process. A glass half empty would tell you that its the last step towards being just a Nordic land. A more optimistic point of view is held by the mayor of Lyndanisse, Sami Tampõld. “We can now have our people, culture, and language represented in the Parliament. Colonialization is over, we are now at the table.”
Snow is falling in Lyndanisse and this bring out candles and paper lanterns across town. Excellent views of the Northern Lights and Igloos bring in tourists every year. Along side hunting trips, snowmobile vacations, and ice fishing, the lifestyle of a tourist would seem to be all the perks the natives have crammed into the space of a few days or a week.
The main attraction is the Christmas singing in a couple of weeks. Child and adults gather together to practice in schools and churches. The end result will be not just caroling, which occurs from door to door, and also in public squares, but also at the national festival venue which is typically attended by over 300,000 people. It is worth keeping in mind that the total population of Finner og Isørerne is just a million people total.
