 House Votes to Condemn Fulanistan Commonwealth Act

The House of Peoples Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution introduced by the far right minority coalition the United Peoples Defense Front 581-8 with six abstaining and five absent. The short non-binding resolution was as follows:

Resolution
Sane 3, 2002
On the Commonwealth Act of Fulanistan

Noting with deep concern that if implemented as proposed the Commonwealth Act would effectively signal the annexation of Fulanistan into Batavie.

Deeply disturbed by Batavie's collusion in the annexation of Fulanistan.

Believing that the nations of Himyar must remain sovereign and free.

Affirming that the free nations of Himyar should not tolerate the annexation of one of their own.

1.Calls Upon the National Congress of Fulanistan to vote down the Commonwealth Act.

2. Calls Upon the nation of Batavie to refuse to cooperate in the annexation of Batavie.

3. Strongly Condemns any and all supporters of neo-imperialism in Himyar.

4. Urges His Imperial Majesty Moa Anbessa Ze Imnegede Yehudar, Seyoume Igziabehe, Negusa Negest, Neguse Tsion, Saloman V to join with his people in the condemnation of this affront to freedom and self-determination.

Well foreign policy remains the prerogative of the Atse, that a resolution from the fringe UPDF was able to muster such overwhelming support is itself significant and is likely an indicator of how strongly the house feels about the issue. Given the breadth of support in the house it is almost certain the Atse will act on the issue and we are awaiting a response from the Afe Negus at this hour.

The Government of Fulanistan is very concerned with Axum's position towards our country. We have mutually discussed the commonwealth with Batavia, and any action against Fulanistan will be met with fierce response.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Atse is deeply disturbed by Fulanistans unvarnished hostility. The House of Peoples Representatives is entitled to express it's beliefs as a free assembly but it is Girmawi Saloman V who decides the Empires foreign policy. While the Atse always holds the will of the House as the representatives of the people in the highest regard it's declarations should not be confused for those of the Atse himself.

The Government of Fulanistan would like to assert that we fully recognize the freedom of the Atse to make decisions and decide its Foreign Policy. However, we are concerned the Resolution against us and the Commonwealth will lead to further unfriendly actions and as such we will respond to such actions with response, however this does not necessarily mean acts of war.

There are a number of asserted fallacies in this resolution. The Commonwealth is no where near an annexation. It is a cultural, economic and symbolic creation. Independence of Fulanistan will remain 100 per cent intact. It is a shame to see that so many foreign media outlets are warping the story to report lies and misunderstandings rather than the legal facts available to all.

Clearly, considering the Batavians are the only ones arguing that this is not neo-colonialism, it is obvious to the world who is lying. We condemn the harmful Batavian propaganda, and once again demand an unconditional withdrawal of the country from rightful Arab land, and the continent of Himyar.

The propaganda is coming from outside of Batavië. The facts are available to all. If you choose to ignore it, that is your own mistake and choice. We will not reverse our bilateral and mutual decision.

 Plan to meet Fulanistani President ignites storm of Controversy

The plan isn't new but the firestorm it has ignited is just beginning. Three days ago the formerly low key plan for a meeting between the Atse and the President of Fulanistan was slammed in a front page editorial in the Times of Tigray , one of the nations leading newspapers. Since the editorial was published public anger over the plan has been overwhelming.

That anger reached the House yesterday, climaxing in a fistfight between members of the ruling Axumite National Democratic Front and leading opposition coalition United Democratic Forces of Axum. Premier Aida Haille was faced with opposition on all fronts as he not only had to fend off the relentless criticism of the opposition but also struggled to keep his own ANDF coalition in line behind close doors according to informed sources.

Today was quieter in the house with the Premier notably absent. It is believed he spent most of the day in a top level emergency meeting with Afe Negus Tsegaye Selassie to air his concerns as head of government over the planned meeting. How will the Atse respond? No one knows but some commentators suggest that the Royal Council may have underestimated public anger over what is widely perceived as a imperialist takeover of Fulanistan. Others point to the unanimous condemnation of the commonwealth by other governments in Himyar and speculate the Atse may be hesitant to break rank by meeting with the Fulanistani President.
