Krauss-Maffei Wegmann presents before domestic and international customers its new proposed conversion for the old Leopard main battle tanks, currently found in active service, reserve or storage with various countries: the KMW Taurus.

You must be registered for see images

STPz Taurus prototype

The KMW Taurus is a complete modification for the Leopard main battle tanks, with three possible configurations, observing and fulfilling the role of a heavily armoured troop transport. Offering protection comparable to main battle tanks, the Taurus can load, transport and unload up to 10 fully armed and equipped troops, depending on its version, from the safety of the vehicle's back.

The Taurus comes in three different versions, and is superficially similar to other Leopard conversions like the Bergepanzer 2. Its most distinguishing feature, however, is that the chassis has been turned around, bringing the engine to the front, with the interior re-designed to accommodate a crew of two (a driver and a commander/gunner) and space for up to 10 troops. The Leopard tank turret has been removed, allowing for extra armour to be used for the protection of the crew and passengers.

All versions of the Taurus include fully modern electronics, including GPS tracking of friendly vehicles and their status, target identifications, and more. Some of the features found on the Taurus can be found in the new Puma IFV and Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The Taurus is designed as a cheap upgrade or reliable new-production vehicle suitable for an array of buyers, and fully suit a modern battlefield for both defence and offence.

The Taurus armament varies per version, but it comes in a highly modifiable remote-controlled turret that further assists the vehicle's low profile and can see alternative systems installed on it. The vehicle's armour, although upgraded from the basic Leopard in its front, flanks, top and bottom, is upgradable based on customer demand.

The Taurus can be converted from any Leopard tank together with a series of maintenance, or be built anew. Newly built vehicles are offered with a contract for KMW to overlook their maintenance, which includes a limited warranty. Production can be initiated as early as March 2010, provided there is sufficient international interest.

The following Taurus versions are offered for adoption by national military and non-military forces internationally:
KTPz Taurus
Krankentransportpanzer - Heavily armoured ambulance

The utility version of the Taurus, the KTPz (Krankentransportpanzer) has a basic crew of 2 plus one field medic or doctor, and can carry up to 9 injured in seated positions, or 4 lying down. This version weighs less than other Taurus versions, featuring less armament. This armament is featured on a remotely controlled turret, whose basic armament is a pair of Rheinmetall MG3 machine guns.

Weight: 40 tons
Armament: 1x MG3 machine gun in remote-controlled turret
Crew: 3 (driver, commander/gunner, medic) +9 injured (seated) or +4 injured (lying down)
Unit cost: €1 million (if converted); €3.5 million (newly produced)

SSPz Taurus
Schwerer Sturmpanzer - Heavily armoured assault vehicle

The SSPz (Schwerer Sturmpanzer) Taurus is a heavier-armoured and armed version of the basic STPz Taurus troop transport. It is designed for assault transport roles, able to take heavy fire from enemy infantry and vehicles, and, to a certain degree, withstand modern main battle tanks. The SSPz Taurus uses a remote-controlled turret featuring one 35 mm autocannon (the same as used in the Flakpanzer Gepard), one MG3 machine gun, and two pairs of Spike LR anti-tank missiles or Stinger anti-aircraft missiles (used in any combination, but in pairs.)

Weight: 45 tons
Armament: 1x 35 mm autocannon, 1x MG3 machine gun and 2x2 Spike LR or Stinger missiles in remote-controlled turret
Crew: 2 (driver, commander/gunner) +10 passengers
Unit cost: €2 million (if converted); €6.5 million (newly produced)

STPz Taurus
Schwerer Transportpanzer - Heavily armoured personnel carrier

The STPz (Schwerer Transportpanzer) Taurus is the basic version of the Taurus, featuring heavy armour and capable armament consisting of a pair of MG3 machine guns and two pairs of Spike LR or Stinger missiles in a remotely controlled turret, to support troop operations. The STPz Taurus is ideal for counter-insurgency, urban and high-intensity battlefields.

Weight: 43 tons
Armament: 2x MG3 machine guns and 2x2 Spike LR or Stinger missiles in remote-controlled turret
Crew: 2 (driver, commander/gunner) +10 passengers
Unit cost: €1.5 million (if converted); €4.5 million (newly produced)
The KMW Taurus will be open for evaluation trials and pre-orders immediately, at the thread.

Thießen AG, active in the steel, defence and other heavy industries, is interested in expanding its commercial operations abroad, in the manner of forming subsidiary companies in other countries.

As such, Thießen AG is looking for foreign companies interested in partnerships within their countries, particularly in the steel manufacturing industry, and is interested in investing in mining facilities and nearby sites for the erection of a steel manufacturing plant. This will permit the creation of several thousand new jobs, revitalising local economies in the process.

Offers from private or public companies, as well as foreign governments, would be most appreciated. The board of
Thießen AG is looking forward to establishing strong and long-term partnerships with mutual gains and benefits.
