Pelasgian Empire

Ministry of External Affairs
Office of the R.H. Minister
From: Ministry of External Affairs, Vasileо̄n 1, Propontis, Theme of the Optimatoi, Pelasgian Empire
To: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Confederate Republic of @Beautancus
Date: 7 November 2018
Subject: Diplomatic rapprochement
Classification: Β1 - Confidential - Most Rapid

To the attention of the Right Honourable Minister.

Honourable Sir,

I would first like to once more express the condolences and sympathies of the Pelasgian Empire for the recent natural events which have plagued the Confederate Republic. Were it not for great distance and for our own pressing domestic concerns, of which I am certain a man of your stature is aware, the Empire would have endeavour to offer assistance of a more practical nature.

Alas, it is a most unfortunate event that, though Beautancus is the first Western nation that Pelasgia came in contact with following the end of our de facto isolation from the 'Heretical West' in the wake of the Himyari Crusades, relations between our two nations have been quite sporadic and nominal since the Reconquest of Kyparissos. It is indeed no secret that the unfortunate events which defined our relationship in the beginning of the 19th century, though regrettable, did leave a long-lasting impact on both of our nations' future, a reality which is still reflected in the slightly peculiar and Engelloid fashions of the locals of the Western Archipelago in our own Country.

The Empire, having unshackled itself from the dynastic commitments chaining it to the small corner of Germania across the Long Sea has now decided to turn to new partners for diplomatic cooperation. As such, we have endeavoured to strike partnerships and friendships in such unlikely places as the Red States across the Kalahari, the quasi-Sodomal lands of Gallia and the isolated and peculiar territories of Himyar south of the Syenaic Mountains. However, we have yet to turn to Occitania, a land of considerable civilisation and progress, to which we once turned to modernise, and to which might now turn during our current modernisation efforts.

To this end, I would like to invite His Excellency, Signeur Edward C. Orton to the island of Kyparissos to meet with the Lord Sakellarios of the Empire. Kyparissos is where our relations, though tenuous and strained, once begun; it should be the place where they shall be reborn. Due to the recent developments in Occitania, we would understand if there was a need for His Excellency to remain in Beautancus, and would be open to instead have the Pelasgian Minister of External Affairs with his equivalent from your Country, on the aforementioned island.

Be pleased to extend the warmest wishes of His Imperial Majesty to His Excellency, who has asked me to extend this greeting to His Excellency through you as one First Citizen to another.

Signed and sealed,

Ἐμμανουὴλ Αὐγηρὸς τοῦ Λυσικράτους

Emmanouīl Avgīros, son of Lysikratīs
Minister of External Affairs of the Pelasgian Empire
Knight of the Order of Saint Tiberius
Senator by Right of Office

CONFEDERATED REPUBLIC OF BEAUTANCUS
STATE FOREIGN SERVICE,
OFFICE OF THE FIRST CITIZEN & CHIEF
Drummond House, 2552 Company Street,

Honorable Senator,

We thank you first for your sentiments in regards to the state of disharmony currently afflicting those nations of the northern Occident, as yet still ongoing, though we assure both you and His Imperial Majesty that these matters provide only a momentset aggravation and distraction for this administration and the great nation it represents.

It is as you have noted for ourselves as well, our histories have been irrevocably linked since the very dawning of the properly modern era in global affairs - a distinction that has not and will never escape the Cussian mind. Our early interactions, however complex, provide a certain gravity that we feel compelled not to resist - for how better to gain a full sense of a man or men than to have quarreled, however in passing, and come to an amicable resolution for it?

It is this spirit that has animated and compelled both Lower and Upper Houses of the Legislature of the Confederated Republic to accept your most worthy invitation to enter into particular forms of discussion, and immediately authorized collaboration and cooperation with the Pelasgian Empire, in pursuance of the notion that all the forthright nations of the Civilized Order be adequately equipped and prepared to meet the dynamic challenges the present geopolitical and economic climate presents.

Though we regret to inform you that the ongoing Occidental Disturbance negates the possibility of His Excellency, the First Citizen & Chief Orton travelling such a distance, it is both my honor and great pleasure to present myself as His Excellency's personal selection to serve as Deputy Secretary for Pelasgic Affairs and Special Envoy Plenipotentiary for this Bilateral Summit in Kyparissos.

With our adoration, deepest and warmest regards for His Imperial Majesty, and his Honorable and Leal Servant - this Office and the Government and Nation it serves commends you on taking such an important step in securing the means to a future worthy of the Pelasgian Empire.

Sir Emmerick C. Hyde III,

Deputy State Foreign Secretary for the Pelasgian Empire; Knight of the Confederated Republic of Beautancus, Order of the Golden Circle
