On the 18th-century wooden desk covered with gold leaf, there was the prime minister's phone, in addition to his documents. The words "Ostmark, People's Republic, H. GRASSER" appeared on the small displayer on the phone. Tusca Larci did not expect a call from that isolationist nation bound to the corners of Europe, but circumstances did not allow her to ignore the call, so she took the horn in her hand and brought it close to her ear.

" To what do I owe the honor, Chancellor Grasser? "

"Good morning Prime Minister Turci, i'm People's Chancellor Horst Grasser" Grasser had never heard the voice of the Etrurian Prime Minister before, and it was the first time in almost two years the two countries had a direct diplomatic contact, at least at Head of Governments level. Etruria and Ostmark never enjoyed warm diplomatic relations. In fact, the nature of the relationship between the Federal Kingdom of Etruria and the People's Republic of Ostmark has been always characterized by a complete incompatibility on a social, cultural, economic and political ground, if not direct hostility, most expressed in the press and, sometimes, social media channels.

Regardless, given the quickly and dangerously escalating tensions in Germania, that morning the Wise Leader did not hesitate for one second to dial PM Turci's number, from his office in the Palace of the People's Republic "I hope you will excuse the lack of pleasantries, and i am aware that the relations between our countries have never been on the best term. But irrespective of how different our views on society and economy and politics are, i also believe we have common grounds in relation to the current military escalation in Germania".

Horst's voice was calm, polite, accomodating and respectful for his Etrurian counterpart. He almost sounded as a completely different person, if compared to the propaganda beast Ostmarkians and foreigners alike are used to "I have always believed that peaceful coexistence is possible even between countries with different political and economic systems. I've called you to discuss the implications of a further escalation of the events we are currently faced by, and maybe find a common strategy to, if not de-escalate, at least limit the damages."

Grasser took a short pause, then continued "I have never made mistery of my adversion to war as an instrument to solve international issues and disputes. I consider myself as a man of peace and i hope, despite the deep differences between us, that we both share the same sentiment, in the interest of peaceful coexistence and stability in Germania. My opinion, Prime Minister Turci, is that neither Ostmark or Lars will gain any advantage over a full scale military conflict. I have reached this conclusion based on the simple and obvious geographical fact that our two countries stand on a hopefully only hypotetical frontline. We would be the ones paying the highest price, in human lives. Would you generally agree with the statements i have made so far?" he asked in conclusion, waiting for an answer from the other side of the line.
