Convention on Mercury

Greetings, esteemed delegate,

I come to you today to request your approval of the General Assembly proposal, the . Mercury is an extremely concerning substance due to its toxicity towards life, both human and otherwise. In addition, mercury is hazardous because it builds up in the food chain, eventually reaching extremely hazardous levels that endanger ecosystems. This proposal recommends that nations take reasonable steps towards researching alternatives for, reducing the use of, and possibly phasing out mercury in its applications. Also, it mandates that the World Assembly Scientific Program aid nations in their research, and requires nations to educate citizens about the toxicity of mercury. Finally, it implores that nations take steps to reduce the bioaccumulation of mercury in the natural world.

In short, this proposal will only improve the lives of humans and non-sapient life alike, and I hope to see you approving and voting for this much-needed piece of legislation.

Sincerely,

I have no problems with the proposal. It is quite well written and quite well done in a manner which does not infringe on the rights of European nations. I would recommend voting FOR the proposal because it deals with important issues in a well-done manner.

Although I wish there were a small section which spoke about how this is an international issue and requires international action to solve, it is already adequate.

Foreign Patent Recognition

Hello Imperium Anglorum,

I am writing to request that you approve my proposal to replace the now-repealed General Patent Charter, .

As you may recall, our delegation repealed the General Patent Charter several months ago. That resolution contained a number of flaws, such as a vague right of renewal that potentially restricted patents from ever entering the public domain in certain cases, that prevented it from achieving its stated goals.

However, we remain a strong advocate of patent law. By granting inventors certain exclusive rights associated with their inventions in exchange for the detailed public disclosure of that invention, governments are able to promote scientific and technological innovation at minimal cost to the public. We also support the harmonization of patent law throughout the World Assembly, as the effectiveness of patents is substantially reduced when other member states fail to recognize them.

Our proposal, , accomplishes these goals by mandating that World Assembly member states recognize foreign patents for ten years or the period used by the member state that granted the patent, whichever is less. At the same time, the proposal strikes a key balance between the rights of patent holders and the rights of the general public. Under our proposal, member states are not required to recognize domestic patents if they don't want to. In addition, member states are permitted to create reasonable limitations and exceptions to foreign patents, such as when the patent is not currently being exploited in that member state or when the relevant patent application was not released in a timely manner.

Thank you very much for considering our request. You can approve the proposal , or view the relevant drafting thread

I don't really have much of an opinion on this proposal. It deals with an esoteric topic which could or could not be spoken about. From a national sovereignties perspective, it is really quite neutral. Your sovereignty is expanded in some cases and decreased in others. Furthermore, the proposal doesn't really implement an enforcement mechanism for these patents, even allowing for nations to void those patents in cases where they feel the patents are unreasonable. In the end, I have no opinion, and hence, will default to against.

Polling in Europe has given a current margin of 30-8 in favour. I have voted accordingly.

Dear Delegates,

I have the pleasure of representing and before you and your esteemed colleagues. We all are here to represent our region and nation, whether it is pressing for Human Rights, protecting the environment, or any other way to make the World a better place. We are here to bear testimony that in a world of wars, oppression, and genocide, there are people who try their best and fight for what they believe in. I know how valuable your time is, so I'll keep this short.

I have submitted a proposal, entitled that will (in essence) promote tourism, boost international economies, create a diverse, unique culture, and foster a philosophy of acceptance throughout World Assembly member states. This proposal will bring us one step closer (but still far away) from a utopia. I am messaging you, the representatives of the World Assembly community, to convince you why you should support the proposal. Below you will find the benefits of this deal which I have arranged into 5 main points.

1. Promotes tourism which will support your economy by providing extra income.
2. Creates a diverse, understanding culture through exploring new things.
3. Signifies unity amongst World Assembly member states by allowing (mostly) free travel.
4. Enables member states to cooperate and collaborate with one another.
5. Creates a more universal and extremely secure passport design amongst member states by implementing biometric applications.

Misconceptions about this Proposal are:

1. that it is forced down the throats of member states, however this proposal recognizes the right of a country to defend it's territorial integrity and therefore choose not to participate in this program.

2. that criminals will enter your borders, however this proposal creates the International Criminal Police Organization which collaborates with all countries to keep them safe (for more information, read 4.E)

I thank you for your time reading this and hope you will approve this proposal. If you still have any doubts about this proposal, do not hesitate to respond to this telegram and I will try to clear up any misconceptions or answer any questions that you may have.

Signed,

Regional Delegate of

This proposal is illegal due to duplication, contradiction, optionality, etc. We will not be supporting it because it will soon be removed.

Greetings, fellow Ambassadors to the World Assembly:

I'm going to keep this fairly short. I am contacting you to approve my proposal , which seeks to fill major loopholes left by the existing "Minimum Standard of Living Act".

In brief, my proposal calls for the guarantee of a basic living income--whether guaranteed via a minimum wage, government welfare, or privately funded aid--to hardworking citizens of each member state. Member states are guaranteed the right to decide how employers pay wages, and special exceptions to this proposal's protections are made for volunteer workers, apprentices, and incarcerated convicts.

You may approve this proposal , or review discussion on this proposal .

Thank you for your time, and I hope you give this proposal your approval. If you have any concerns about how "Right to a Reasonable Income" would affect your nation, I encourage you to telegram me.
