An idea I've had to promote actual threads on the front page is to have players talk about those threads they're writing, individually or cooperatively, in a way that gives newcomers and regulars a way to see "inside the thread" you are writing.
Basically you, or in conjunction with the person you are writing with, describe how you came up with the concept, a summary of what it's about, and where you see the thread going in the future. At worst you have a few more people who understand your writing, and at best you might find another player to contribute and improve upon ongoing threads.
Try not to over think it if you are interested, there isn't a right way to do something that hasn't been done before. If you have anything at all: post it here, or send it to me in a PM - and I'll promote it on to the front page for mass viewership.
