Non-Fiction Category
The Scepter and the Cross: A Study on the Orthodox Church's Role in Pelasgian Politics and Society (Prof. Maria Tiveriopoulou - Thermi University Press, Thermi, 2022) - An academic study of the outsided influence of the Pelasgian Orthodox Church in the country's political and social life, collected through a ten-year period. The author examines the links of the Church hierarchy with important political figures, the dominant Constitutional Democratic Party, the bureaucracy, and the Throne, while also shedding light on the Church's preferential treatment in both legal and fiscal terms. An in-depth analysis of the Church's vast network of educational, social, healthcare, and even banking institutions is also provided, the first of its kind in academic literature, including many previously undisclosed documents.

Ebony and Gold: A Vision for a Modern Himyari Economy (Petros Sakellarios - Logos Editions, Propontis, 2022) - Petros Sakellarios, a senior fellow at the Himyari Economic Institute and a world-renowned economy focused on development and modernisation in post-colonial settings, provides a new vision for the economy (and economies) of Himyar. Starting off, the author provides a short but well-rounded history of both Himyar and its major economies, as well as of the continent's trade relations with other regions of Europe. In the following chapters, he proceeds to provide analyses of the continent's main economies and of Himyar's overall economic state, before recommending solutions at the national, sub-contintental regional, and continental level regarding economic cooperation to ensure the Ebony Continent's development and its independence from foreign economies.

Torching the Sea (Stephanos Papastavrou - Ankyra Publishing House, Evosmos, 2022) - A historical novel set against the backdrop of the final years of the forty-year siege of Methoni by the forces of Emperor Theodore IV. The story follows the lives of a Pelasgian nobleman's daughter torn between her love for one of the city's Catholic occupiers, as well as her Pelasgian betrothed, who has fled the city to join the Propontine troops seeking to eject the Crusaders from one of their last outposts in Himyar. Written in the style of an ancient tragedy, the book innovates by integrating novel literary techniques and themes into a traditional love story, without eschewing the strong emotions that made the genre famous.

The Southern Star (Petros Damianos - Papyros Publications, Thermi, 2022) - A horror novel following the fifth son of a rural family, who, fleeing poverty and the lack of marital prospects and an inheritance at home, tries to start a new life in the harsh whaling outposts of the Far South. Soon, the young man runs into the harsh reality of life at sea, the sadness of being so far from home, and the innumerable threats of a yet-uncharted and contested region of the world, where the law is very often naught but the will of the strongest. Yet, deep under the cold waters, another threat awaits, far more ancient and potent than the dark hearts of men...

The Cross, the Shield, and the Sword (Jean Picquout, Imperial University Press, Chagny, 2022) - Longtime medieval history author Jean Picquout hits the pages with a new book examining what it meant to be a knight. Focusing on the period of 1000AD to 1300AD, Picquout tells the tales of many oft-forgotten knights in several countries. Each knight tells a different story of how devotion, violence, class, and ambition shaped the modern views of the medieval period. Picquout carefully compares and contrasts knights of numerous nations and bygone kingdoms and makes a sharp analysis that breathes history into the modern sphere.

The Grand Republic (Patricia Morterero - San Andres University Press, Callao, 2022) - Narrative history and political sciences are blended in together to form the portrait of the year of 1821, when republican revolutionaries toppled the Viceroyalties of Corrientes, Occidentia and Implaria, creating a series of liberal republics. In her work, Patrivia Morterero doesn't concentrate on the events of the Liberation Wars of 1821, but rather on what the events meant for the day to day lives of the peoples of the Viceroyalties, who woke up in newly formed Republics. It also analyses and concludes that republicanism is an identity for the nations of the western hemisphere, which will be impossible to change.

Nutty's better half
Il Gazzettino' Review of Books identified. The two best selling books in Radilo this summer.

Non-fiction:
Well, that went better than expected: adventures of the post-war Camorra (Giovanni Genevese, University of Badua Press, Badua, 2022) - Drug smuggling, espionage, money laundering, racketeering, bribery and... Catholic school booster clubs... Using first hand accounts, newly declassified reports, and a handful of well-placed sources, this book weaves an unlikely, but entirely true, tale of the day to day functions of the legendary Radilan mafia. From clandestine arms smuggling to a slapstick attempt to influence the results of a church cookie contest, the complexities and oddities of legendary crime syndicates are explored down to their most absurd detail. Humanity, brutality, and and no small bit of shenanigans, all are laid bare. "Yea, it's that stupid," answered one of the world's most wanted men, when asked.

Fiction:
Under a Saphire Sky (Lili Montebello, Repvbblica Press, Nouvo Porto, 2022) - Already a major motion picture on NextFlix, this novel plays tropes against eachother as two star-crossed lovers navigate life's little trials and tribulations. Set in beautiful Valletta, Maria, the teenage daughter of a wealthy Catholic family falls in love with Emily, the family's poor Protestant maid. Through their relationship, all of society's silly little quirks and inconsistencies play out in this delightfully silly and uplifting story.
