(EIF) Der Krieg der Rosen (The war of the roses) by Helga Hase - Storytelling non-fiction - Helga Hase is famous in Eiffelland for the way she describes historical events. Now she describes the war that put an end to the Holy Germanic Empire and shaped Germania as we currently know it. But she doesn't do it as a classic history book, but makes a story out of history. From the perspective of the Emperor and the Archbishop of Augsburg of those days, but also of the respective first Kings that reigned over a Franken, Danmark and Eiffelland independent from the Holy Germanic Empire, she tells the story of the crucial war that shaped present-day Germania.

(EIF) Die Verwunderung (The astonishment) by Hubert Clausen - Fiction - This is a complex novel in which four storylines are combined. The main character is a teacher who has been admitted to a psychiatric institution. Upon request by his psychiatrist, he writes about the events before his admission to the psychiatric institution, because that would have a healing therapeutic effect. He has to do so as a narrator looking at the events but not taking part in them. And he does so. But not only that. He also writes about life in the institution, and another time about the events before his admission to the psychiatric institution (but then from his own perspective), and about events from his youth and early adulthood. For each story he writes, he uses a different hand-writing. And in this way, the story is described about a teacher who falls in love to a woman he meets at a party, hears from one of his pupils where the woman lives, goes there with his pupil, meets the woman in question, and then finds out that she is a member of a family who is highly involved in Eiffelland's far right movement. He realises too late that he has to flee.

OOC: The latter description is based on a novel by the Belgian writer Hugo Claus. In Dutch, the novel is called "De verwondering". It was translated into English as "Wonder". Believe me, it is a very good novel.

This month's two biggest best sellers in Warre & Tyrculir are amusingly enough books which you might say are in preparation for "Halloween" or Samhain, in that both books are dressed as one thing, but in the end are another entirely.

(TYL) The Varied Menu: Recipes of Life by Georgia MacDougal, Christiana Del Tibur, Igakawa Michiko, & Adèle Cousteau - Fiction & Recipe Book A book which seems from the outside to be a cookbook, both from it's tome style binding, it's non-descript outside illustration, and even it's title, the Varied Menu is a must-have for the intelligent young woman or young man wishing to understand how women think a bit better (and who wants to get some cooking skills to impress her). Written collaboratively by four friends, Georgia MacDougal, Christiana Del Tibur, Michiko Igakawa, and Adèle Cousteau, the book combines traditional dishes with meal plans that combine Tiburan, Cantignian, AnLyric-Ivernish, and Touzenese cooking styles and dishes; but also features sections dedicated to all four of those cooking traditions, with at least twenty dishes of each style detailed and with a short story telling the importance of that dish to the author, or a story of their past followed by it. Given the authors are retelling some stories which their mothers, aunts, grandmothers or further told them, it's considered fiction, but the book is full of drama, particularly given the fact that Ms Del Tibur is a former Solaren national descended Tiburan-AnLyric; Ms Cousteau's family came to Tyrculir thanks to the help of the White Triskele during the August Catastrophe in Germania and Skandia, and Mrs Igakawa's family fled Oikawa before its transformation to Touzen, having been former staunch royalists. | Originally published in English and AnLyric/Lyrige. Now published in Austwegian, Fennian, French, Frescanian, Ivernian, Potenzan (Tiburan?), Touzenese and Swieczieman. Translations in process for Bantyric, Catiopian, Yujinese, and Ch'takalak (Aballach Wildling Reserve Native).

(TYL) Havok Comics presents! Drawing Superheroes! by The Havok! Comics Bullpen - Non Fiction A book which seems at first glance to just be a rather thick book of the same type which teach children to draw cartoon characters in specific poses, while the book begins with that, it goes on to be a full on text book on art, and getting better at it, going so far as to give instructions on how to draw still life and objects in a realistic style, as well as teaching some about the history of comics, art in general, and in particular the Tapestry descended style of comics drawing that the modern AnLyric style arose from. Critics have said it would not have been such a best seller if it did not include one of six special edition comics (varied by book as to which it came with) included in a plastic casing in the back. | Originally published in English and AnLyric/Lyrige. Now published in Austwegian, German, English, Fennian, French, Frescanian, Ivernian, Potenzan, and Saami. Translations in process for Suionian, Bantyric, Touzenese, Yujinese, and Ch'takalak (Aballach Wildling Reserve Native).

(AND) The Trouble of Space by Enrique Vélez - Non Fiction - Having served as the Chairman of Andaluz' Foreign Relations Committee for three years, and as a statesman and diplomat for nearly two decades before that, Vélez touches upon the geopolitical problems faced by the Andal Commonwealth. In a thrilling, narrative style, Vélez leads readers through the evolution of the Commonwealth's identity on the world stage and its particular doctrine of foreign policy, starting from the very birth of the Commonwealth up to the modern day. He talks about the issue of space, of the struggle between the Frescanosphere and Anglosphere, and the increasing significance of international commerce and shipping. There's an undeniably political message wrapped up in the book, but it remains simultaneously also a well-researched piece about the evolution of Andal foreign relations. | Originally published in Frescanian. Now available in French, English, and Tiburan translations.

(AND) The Mariners by Guillermo Ramírez - Fiction - A magical novel intended for young adults, detailing the journey of a man and his family across the world in their own small boat. It describes dozens of ports and scenic places in wondrous detail, providing an account that only someone who'd lived and been there might of life in such places. The novel deals too with the troubles of raising a family, of ensuring their morality, future, and prosperity, and touches upon the artificial nature of states and their negative impact on mankind. Ramírez writes from a truly international perspective, with authentic accounts of both life aboard a ship, in ports, and in many other wonderful locations around the world. Very popular among children and younger readers, The Mariner has now been translated from its original Frescanian to many other languages. | Originally published in Frescanian. Now available in French, English, German, Tiburan, AnLyrige/Lyric, Ivernian, Touzenese, Yujinese, and Austwegian translations.

(AND) La Torre Sombría (The Grim Spire) by Antonio Veríduez - Fiction - A sword and sorcery novel in what promises to be the first in a compelling series. In a fictional world based on northern Himyar and southern Touyou, a nomad is forced to become an arena fighter and later a prisoner in the Grim Spire, an ancient fortress dug deep into an enormous mountain. Yet the jailors are not human, and neither are all the prisoners, and so the hero, Vihuego, must find salvation through the use of his own wits, courage, and brawn alone. A book which surprised publishers across Andaluz with its abrupt popularity, prompting Veríduez to continue the series. | Originally published in Frescanian. Now available in French, English, German, Tiburan, AnLyrige/Lyric, Ivernian, Touzenese, Yujinese, and Austwegian translations.

(ETN) In Sight of Gods by Tarvos Malonnos - Fiction - A science-fiction novel in the style of the famous 19th century Etnaean novelist Ancomolos Disuisga, detailing the journey of a modern engineer into the distant past and beyond. As much a spiritual exploration of the ideas of afterlife as it is a story, touching upon Malonnos' own personal ideas regarding reincarnation and the perseverance of the human self and soul. While not especially popular in his homeland, it has enjoyed some small commercial success in Ivernia and in Occidentia, and received critical acclaim for the gripping prose and depth of ideas expressed within. | Originally published in Etnaean. Now available in French, English, German, Tiburan, Ivernian, and Austwegian translations.

(ETN) Peace's Problems by Dr. Urogenos Lukuiga - Non-fiction - An examination of the plight of the Quakers in Cantigny and Etnaea both prior to and following the August Catastrophe. A surprisingly focused piece, it deals with the perception of various different Quaker communities, their personal beliefs, and the specific theological justification utilized in the aftermath of the conflict for either change or action. While Dr. Lukuiga maintains an academic tone throughout, many critics claim that there is a clear bias against the Quakers in the work, with Dr. Lukuiga advocating against their policy and belief in pacifism. Given the resurgent interest in the faith in Etnaea following the August Catastrophe, the work has enjoyed some mild success. | Originally published in Etnaean. Now available in French, English, Tiburan, and Ivernian translations.

He examines also the development of the army in Portusgalia, considering the portusgalian army now days a "total fiasco", due to the lack of vehicles and airplanes, and outdated small arms. The only armed forces branch that he considers a "world class", and even still powerful, is the navy. But heavily criticises the lack of carries within it.

(TYR) The Tyrrhenian Trilogy. Part 1: 1913, by Anna Pandis - Fiction - The first book from the Tyrrhenian Trilogy takes part between 1913 and 1920, presenting the readers the average lives of Tyrrhenian civilians in the time of the riots at the Kastoria Furniture Factory, going through the most brutal period of Colonomos' dictatorship. Promises about elections from the government, fears of arrests, daily rumors about horrible tortures from government prisons, smuggling, the life presented by Anna Pandis is a slice from the fight for survival of the common man that took place in Tyrrhenia from 1913 to 1920. The book tells the story of a priest with left-wing tendencies that is stalked by the secret police, a shopkeeper that starts an illicit business to earn enough to survive and a fisherman that is recruited by the secret service to be an informer. The last chapters of the book present the ways the news of the Carentanian revolution comes in Tyrrhenia, with the military dictatorship hell bent in keeping all information outside and to destroy any red cell that is forming.

The New Mechanism of the Iordanist Economy, by Panos Andrianopoulos - Non-fiction - The book presents what the author calls the economical system of tomorrow. He states the fact that a that is adapted to the needs of the people and state, in one word the market of each country can be the best way of reaching full economical development on a medium and long term. He expounded the idea that a fully planned economy works only on a short term, being beneficial for backward states that can reach world's average development through a rapid but solidified industrialization. After a period of around twenty years, maybe even thirty, it would be expected for such an economy to start having the cyclical crises typical to the capitalist economical system, acknowledging that only a , adapted to the needs of the society as a whole can further develop the state and it may bring prosperity to the people.

(Ion) Apology, by Plato - Non-Fiction. The Apology (Ionian: Ἀπολογία Σωκράτους) is Plato's version of the speech given by Socrates as he defended himself in 399 BC against the charges of "corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods in whom the city believes, but in other daimonia that are novel". "Apology" here has its earlier meaning (now usually expressed by the word "apologia") of speaking in defense of a cause or of one's beliefs or actions (from the Ancient Ionian ἀπολογία). Considered one of, if not the, best of Plato's works and Socrates' speeches this is a must-have for all persons interested in law, history or philosophy and a great and educative read for everyone. Originally Published in Ionian. Now Published in A Lyric, Austwegian, English, Fennian, French, Frescanian, Ivernian, Potenzan, Saami, Swieczieman, Touzen, Tyrrhenian, Suionian

(Ion) Sons of Ajax, by Constantine Grammatikos Ioannou - Non-Fiction. The latest work of the great Ionian writer, philosopher, scholar and poet, C. Grammatikos I., Sons of Ajax follows the true story of four brave young men conscripted during the Diadokhoian Wars of 1913-4, who serve in the XII Phalanx (Light Battalion) of the V Ionian Merarchia (Division) on the Evros front. The book is noted for its realistic depiction of both the bloody Diadokhoian wars and the atrocities on the Evros front committed by both sides. A true testament to the great Ionian writer behind it and one of the best military works of literature, with an obvious anti-war spirit! Originally Published in Ionian. Now Published in A Lyric, Austwegian, English, Fennian, French, Frescanian, Ivernian, Potenzan, Saami, Swieczieman, Touzen, Tyrrhenian, Suionian
