The Azraqi Empire has the Grandmaster in its prayers and hopes that the attacker has faced true justice and is indeed dead.

"Good morning. I wish to update the media on the current situation in Nicosia The Grandmaster suffered numerous injuries in an attack which occurred in the early morning hours on the Palace grounds in Salema. The Grandmaster is in stable condition. He resisted his attacker, a 23 year old Nicosian whose name will not be released at this time. We are currently conducting an in-depth investigation. Rest assured that any security concerns will be both thoroughly and aggressively addressed by the Nicosian government. Questions?"

Intelligence assets have picked up evidence of increased chatter indicating heightened activity. Elbener anti-terrorist units have been placed on alert in order to be able to react to and prevent possible anti-Catholic attacks by so-called non-fictions.

Our prayers are with the grandmaster. May his patron St. Basil watch over him.

COMMISSARIAT OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS
The République Government is most glad to hear of the news emerging from Salema. We reiterate our prayers for the Grandmaster's swift recovery and hope that the vile perpetrators who propagated this horrendous act are brought to justice using the full force of law.

The Archbishop of Villesen has requested us to convey his special blessings to His Excellency the Grand Master and has asked us to inform the Nicosian nation that the Villesen Cathedral has observed a Mass in Honour of St. Basil and prayers have been made for the recovery of His Excellency the Grand Master.

The Ambassador of Serenierre in Salema has been asked to keep Villesen abreast of the situation and the Serenien Government is ready to assist in whatever way possible.

Kind regards,
Bernard Lavosnier
Commissar - External Relations

Grandmaster released from hospital as investigation intensifies.
Zaros

Huge questions linger as the Grandmaster returns home following his hospitalization. Who was the 23 year old attacker? What were his motivations? How did he get into the palace? Police have conducted several raids throughout the country over the past few days. "We are working with domestic and international partners to define the details of the case and to build a concrete understanding of the incident" began a police statement. Police say they have detained up to 84 people who may be connected with the would be assassin. Numerous nations have offered their assistance as Nicosia pursues answers. Police are refusing to confirm that the would be killer hailed from Iklin. The Grandmaster says he will return to full working days immediately.

Central Business Council: Nicosia lures away tech firm Pauling Systems
Zaros

The government's Central Business Council has announced that Pauling Systems will relocate its headquarters to Zaros in 2020. The move is expected to bring 2200 jobs from the tech giant by 2023. The details of the deal to move to Nicosia were not disclosed but an inside source has stated that Pauling Systems will likely receive tax exemptions through 2025. The Nicosian government has made numerous moves to lure tech companies to Nicosia including the liberalization of internet laws and investments in fiber optic infrastructure.

Jets purchased from Serenierre to go operational

Nicosia's air forces, responsible for policing both Nicosia's airspace and the airspace of nearby shipping lanes, has received a key upgrade. 4 aircraft purchased from Serenierre will go operational this week- adding what the Defence Ministry says is a "huge jump forward". The upgrade is part of a long-term plan to modernize Nicosian defense capabilities. Despite neutrality and reliance on assumed intervention, Nicosian officials say that the country must be able to defend itself to a point. The Nicosian government has recently set aside several billion Scudi to address concerns. However, push back from local representatives has called for lower spending. A supposed infusion of money from the Order of St. Basil has reportedly helped reach a compromise between the national government and the representatives.

Priory Heads gather in Salema
Salema

You must be registered for see images

The majority of the Order of St. Basil's international head representatives met in Salema over the past week to discuss the Order's agenda and implementation of new humanitarian missions. The Order of St. Basil, active in most countries worldwide, has a deep network of charitable organizations including schools, hospitals, and soup kitchens. The meeting of the Priory heads also included a dialogue over budget cuts to the Order's churches and chapels- staffed by members of the Order exclusively. While no definite decision was reached, a source told Jounalio that it will close approximately 30 chapels and churches worldwide. The meeting was largely public, though more serious financial discussions were conducted behind closed doors. In a press release, the Order stated that it is expecting to launch a new literacy mission in 2020 or 2021 with nearly 200 million Scudi in funding.

HEADLINES

National Assembly issues dissenting opinions

Salema

The National Assembly has issued its first formal Letter of Dissension this year as tensions between locally elected governments and the national government, led by the Knights of St. Basil, continue to grow. The Letter of Dissension calls on the Knights to "offer both more autonomy and a greater voice to the locally elected representatives of the Nicosian populace". Most of the letter was not released by either the National Assembly or the national government. However, the letter did praise the national government for its commitment to neutrality and seeking peace for Nicosia.

Tourism returning to normal levels

Zaros

Increased patrols and security have proven to pay dividends as tourism numbers are approaching the July average. Nicosia's economy has suffered from the dent made by piracy but the government remains confident. "There is no direct threat ton Nicosia's economic prosperity. Investments in security and international cooperation are ongoing" said a government spokesman. The Order of St. Basil has promised to cover military budget overages for the year. "The numbers may remain lower than normal for the year. However, it cannot be said that there is not a sense of safety returning" concluded the spokesman.

Editorial: Where do we go from here?
Francisco Rios

When I came to Nicosia in 1982, I could already feel and see the changes coming. Yet, they have yet to truly materialize. Since moving here, there has been a general understanding that the present political situation would not last. However, there is an acceptance among the Nicosians. Something of an acceptance of stability. It is a nation of uniqueness. One of the the most religious.Tiny. And ruled by an aristocratic system birthed in the medieval era. Some changes have appeared since the Knights took over. Locally elected governments have helped shape laws. Citizens remain free to live their lives. The press is open. With these small comforts, most Nicosians are seemingly content with their largely non-Nicosian overlords. But for how long? There has been a palatable increase in global tensions. Anti-statists. Monarchists. Dictators. All straining to push each other from the top of the hill. It seems Nicosia must ask itself if it believes that its neutrality will be observed if tensions come to a point. This is no criticism of neutrality itself. Rather a lamentation.
It is true, Nicosians given the choice between the Knights and foreign rule; the Nicosians will take the Knights. But the Knights or themselves is a question that is yet to be answered. Of course, there have been times when the question has been pressed. However, there seems to be no answering. The Nicosian people's contentedness may someday end. One must ask, how much longer the Knights will exist in an increasingly non-secular world? True, the Order of St. Basil has hundreds of billions of Scudi in real estate and investments worldwide and their infrastructure is massive. However, they will be a hollow shell if the world continues to grow more secularized.
The Nicosian people must make a choice. Perhaps not now. One day, inevitably, they must answer the question before another nation answers it for them.
