Kennedy Calls for Impeachment
You must be registered for see images
New Medena, NK: Despite being on the job for just 6 months the Chairman of the Confederate Governor's Council, Gov. Charles Kennedy(Reform Party), has made himself a national figure. Although he is only the de facto Head of State the influence he has weld since taking office poses him as a direct threat to Confederate Council President, Aereonwen Baron, who has been in power since 2012.

This has only grown since April 15th when a massive scandal rocked the Council of the Confederacy. An article released on KBC's website made the claim that the President had suppressed accusations of sexual assault, rape, and fraud made against the Council, including the President herself. The article alleged that people who were making accusations were paid off and fired while the ones were being accused of were promoted, and in one special case promoted to Secretary of the Interior.

When the article was released, Gov. Kennedy was hesitant to call for much "Obviously the allegations are incredibly disturbing but right now that's all they are, allegations. I'm not going to rush to judgment in saying we should impeach the President. Not at this time. I'm gonna hold off on that, you know. I'd need more solid evidence before I call for such. Evidence we don't currently have. Now, I've asked the Attorney General to launch an investigation into the Council on this matter and if this story turns out to be true we will do from there."

Well, just last night evidence came out that a victim of sexual assault from a member of the Government had killed herself after being fired, and this morning the AG concluded that the Council of the Confederacy, particularly the President, had participated in fraudulent activities since at least 2014. This revelation led to Gov. Kennedy calling for President Baron to resign "or face impeachment" when the President made it obvious she wasn't resigning and calling it all a witch hunt Kennedy gathered the Confederate Governors Council(CGC) and held a vote on asking the Legislative Commission of New Kasalonia to impeach the President.

Out of 8 Governors, 6 voted in favor, 1 against, and 1 abstained in protest.
Gov. Charles Kennedy IN FAVOR Reform Party
Gov. Edward Milliband IN FAVOR Reform Party
Gov. Chuck B. Earnst AGAINST National Redepemtion Party
Gov. Lucy Edwards IN FAVOR Workers Party
Gov. Richard King IN FAVOR National Redemption Party
Gov. Benjamin Daley ABSTAIN National Redemption Party
Gov. Brittany Hawthorne IN FAVOR National Redemption Party
Gov. Erick Harper III IN FAVOR Republican Party

President Baron is a member of the National Redemption Party and was supposedly deeply angered by 2 members of her party voting to ask for her impeachment and broke a vase after throwing it at an aid. As of yet, the Legislative Commission has yet to take a vote on the Impeachment of the President but the Chancellor had scheduled it for "this week."

Before the scandal, the President was struggling in the polls but now her polls have completely crashed.

Before Scandal:
47% Approve
44% Disapprove

Now:
33% Approve
58% Disapprove

President Impeached!
You must be registered for see images
West Medena, NK: Chancellor Joy Rhodes surprised the nation this morning when she called the Legislative Commission into its daily meeting with only one item on the agenda: Impeachment of President Aereonwen Baron. The 180 member body debated fiercely for 6 hours before a vote was finally called. The vote lasted 1 hour and was held 3 separate times.

FIRST BALLOT: 36 In Favor 34 Against but with a majority of members not voting the ballot was thrown out and another was held

SECOND BALLOT: 63 In Favor 72 Against although a majority voted this time around Minority Leader Jason Carter filed a petition asking the Chancellor to force all able-bodied members to come into the chambers and vote.

THIRD BALLOT: 101 In Favor 79 Against the third and final ballot ended with a majority of members voting to impeach the President including 12 members of the National Redemption Party, the President's own party.

So what happens now? According to the Constitution of New Kasalonia if the Legislative Commission successfully impeaches the President then elections for President are held within 6 weeks of the vote. The Electoral Committee of New Kasalonia, two hours after the President was impeached, announced that elections will be held June 6th, 2018 in line with elections for the Legislative Commission and various Governorships; although the elections for President are usually held at separate times.

President Baron, who will be allowed to hold the office until after the election, announced that she would run in the election as is her constitutional right but there are also a number of other leaders who are expected to run, including one challenging Baron for her own party's nomination.

POTENTIAL/DECLARED CANDIDATES:
Aereonwen Baron, Incumbent President(2012-current), Governor of New Delaware(2006-2010, 1998-2002), and Legislative Commissioner(1992-1998, 2002-2006, 2010-2012) National Redemption Party
Charles Kennedy, Chairman of the Confederate Governor's Council(2017-current), Governor of Amsterdam(2016-current), Legislative Commissioner(2002-2016) Reform Party

Kennedy, Edwards Announce Joint Ticket
You must be registered for see images
West Medena, NK: Both widely expected to be candidates in next months Presidential election Gov. Charles Kennedy and Gov. Lucy Edwards announced today that they would both be running for President on a joint ticket. This comes after polling showed President Baron leading the pact garnering 43% in the poll with Kennedy behind at 38% and Edwards in 3rd with 13%. The move surprised many as the two come from separate parties. Kennedy from the Reform Party and Edwards from the Workers Party.

Law states that two candidates from separate parties cannot run on the same ticket so Kennedy and Edwards announced that the two parties had agreed to a merger forming the Social Democratic and Labour Party. The move unites what has, for a long time, been a divided faction on the left in the country which has caused a right-wing government since the election of 1988.

"I just that this finally allows for there to be a government in this country that represents what the people truly want. The right-wing National Redemption Party has only gotten over 50% in legislative elections one time and that was 1988. Now if you want to look at the Presidential elections their candidates have never breached 50%. Yet due to the fracturing on the left, we keep losing election after election." said Minority Leader Jason Carter.

Polling shows that a head to head match with Kennedy vs. Baron, Kennedy would get 54% of the vote, Baron 45% with 1% undecided. Also in a head to head match 53% of people would vote for a liberal/left-wing party vs. 45% voting for a conservative/right-wing party.

However, the election will still be difficult and drawn out much like the election of 1992 where a similar combining of parties shot the liberal candidate into the lead only for President William Johnson to narrowly win reelection in a surprise upset victory. Analysts predict this to be the most active, expensive, and nasty election in history.

Baron Narrowly Clinches Nomination
You must be registered for see images

West Medena, NK: Tuesday nights primary for the nomination of the National Redemption Party proved brutal for the incumbent two-term President Aereonwen Baron. who was facing a primary challenge from Gov. Richard King. Her chances were bad from the beginning and were made worse when the Central Committee of the National Redemption Party decided against backing a candidate for nomination the first time they haven't backed an incumbent President of their party in history.

When polls closed around the nation over 7 million people had cast their vote in the nations 8 states. Low polling, low funding, and low enthusiasm had the Baron camp prepared to accept defeat but Aereonwen Baron pulled ahead at the last minute clinching the nomination by only 12,000 votes.

Baron: 3,567,123
King: 3,555,234

Although a surprise victory the Baron camp was celebrating little after King announced he was declaring a campaign for President.

"With a vote this close I will not let Pres. Baron walk around as if this entire party is behind her. This country needs new leadership and I'm running to make sure that happens. I have the funding, I have the energy, I have the ideas, I have the enthusiasm, and I have the will. We're doing this. I'm running outside the party as a candidate for President under the new Republican Party." said King in his "concession" speech.

The Charles Kennedy campaign released a statement saying "The apparent split of the National Redemption Party shows why they have no business leading this country. For 30 years they have led us and we have little to show for it. The NRP is corrupt, out of touch, and divided amongst themselves. At this critical point in time, this is not what the people of Kasalnia need. They need fresh new leadership. King has been in political office since the 1970s and Baron has proven herself to failed, ineffective President. I and the Social Democratic and Labour Party offer that. We offer the first viable alternative to the NRP in years and I think that will lead us to victory next month."

This isn't the only piece of bad news for the President. An economic report showed unemployment has risen to a two-decade high of 12.3%, wages have fallen 2.1%, GDP is also falling at a rate of 1.45%, and inflation is rising quickly. Kennedy has called his "a failure of Pres. Baron and decentralized government" while Baron has said, "It is an unexplainable and routine problem that must be dealt with." Whatever the case the economic news and effective party split have massively altered the polling for Presidential and Legislative elections next month.

Kennedy: 57%(+6)
Baron: 23(-20)
King: 20(+20)

SDLP: 55%(+2)
NRP: 30%(-15)
Republican: 15%(+15)

SDLP Steady, NRP and Republicans Battling
You must be registered for see images
After a collapse in the polls the struggling National Redemption Party under the leadership of incumbent President, Aereonwen Baron has made a come back from a distant third place and is now battling with the Republican Party, a split off of the NRP, for second place. The most recent polls showed the SDLP at 53%, NRP at 24%(up from its low of 17%, and the Republicans at 23% after a brief stint in 2nd place.

However, the election is just one week away and the battle for second place is the only competitive thing happening. On the Presidential side, Charles Kennedy has polled at an impressive 57%, 4% ahead of his own party, Baron has polled at 18%, and Republican candidate Richard King has polled at 25%. If current polls hold out this would be the worst defeat for a governing party since the 1940s where the Socialist Labour Party was defeated after 10 years in office by the Reform Party. The Reform Party would hold power until 1988 before being defeated by the National Redemption Party. However, in 1943 the Socialist Labour Party got 39% of the vote and in 1988 the Reform Party got 47% of the vote making the incoming defeat of the NRP the worst in history and also the first time since the establishment of the Presidency in 1900 that an incumbent was beaten to 3rd place.

The Kennedy campaign, despite their lead, has said they have no intention of slowing down in their door to door campaigning in this critical last week. "We may be polling well ahead but that impressive lead will make some people who are supporting us stay home as they feel their vote isn't necessary. It is, however, critical that they get out to vote. We are polling at 57% and we'd like to win at that. Getting 51% would be pretty embarrassing. So we aren't slowing down and if we play our cards just right we may get above 57%." said Campaign Manager Roy Eddie

Election 2018

Edward: "Thank you for joining us for Election Night 2018. Tonight we have some of the most impactful election in this country's history. We have elections for the Presidency, Legislative Commission, 4 Governorships, and all State Legislative seats. This election alone will determine the balance of power on all levels of government and determine the future of this nation for years to come. Polls have now closed and it's time to look at the exit poll. Sarah?"

Sarah: "Thank you, Benjamin. I'm here at the campaign headquarters for Charles Kennedy and well they're watching us so let's announce the results of the exit poll. Keep in mind these can be very hit or miss but they will be the model we use throughout the night. According to this exit poll, Charles Kennedy is at 56%, Richard King is at 29%, and President Aereowen Baron is in last place at 15%. If these polls hold out it would be a very historic night here in Kasalonia as Kennedy would be the youngest President ever elected. Back to you, Benjamin."

Benjamin: "Historic indeed. There are 8 states in New Kasalonia all having elections tonight and uh...excuse me we go to the News Desk for some breaking news.

Jake: "Breaking news. The longest serving Governor in the history of New Kasalonia, Benjamin Daley has died of a heart attack. He was first elected in 1986 as the Governor of Norfolk on the National Redemption Party wave. A more moderate member of his party he often had high approval ratings both in his state and around the nation. With recent events in the NRP, he decided to not seek reelection as Governor 3 weeks ago. Lt. Gov. James Hadley has been sworn in as Acting Governor and he is the NRP nominee but most likely will not be elected as recent polls show him far behind. Back to Benjamin."

Benjamin: "Sad news indeed. Exit polls for the Legislative Commission show good news for the Social Democratic and Labour Party. In a complete collapse for the NRP. The Social Democratic and Labour Party has gotten 65% of the vote, Republicans have gotten 24%, and the NRP has gotten a lousy 11% of the vote a complete flip in control of Congress. Of course, this is an exit poll and things can change rapidly. Let's remember that in 1988 the Presidential election saw the Reform Party candidate, President William J. Scott defeated even though exit polls showed him getting 55% of the vote. Let's move on to an update in the Presidential election. Kennedy is still in the lead with 55% of the vote, Richard King is at 27%, and Pres. Baron is at 18%. But here's what's interesting. The results are coming in from the most conservative state in the Confederacy. Yet, the SDLP has an astounding lead in the Legislative ballot and the Presidential election. I'm interested to see what happens when results from states more friendly to left-wing ideas start coming in. Now let's go to Oscar for a key race projection."

Oscar: "The only state counting results right now is Pres. Baron's home state of New Delaware the third largest state in the country. The current Governor is Chuck B. Earnst of the National Redemption Party and we can now project that he has lost re-election to a third-term as Governor, investment banker Scott DeBary of the SDLP has narrowly defeated Brooks. DeBary is at 49% and Earnst is in 2nd place at 46% with a third party candidate getting the rest. This officially makes the Social Democratic and Labour Party the largest party on the Confederate Governor's Council with 4 seats, just one seat short of a majority."

Benjamin: "Earnst was the only Governor to vote against a recommendation of impeachment of President Baron and the SLDP immediately targeted his seat and it seems he has paid dearly for that vote. Results are now also coming in from Gov. Kennedy's home state, Amsterdam. Let's take another look at the results. For President, Kennedy has gone up to 58%, Richard King has recovered up to 29% of the vote, and Pres. Baron has fallen to 13%. For the Legislative Commission the SDLP has risen to 66% of the vote, Republicans at 25%, and the NRP at 9%. We can also now predict that Legislative Chancellor Joy Rhodes has lost her seat to Brandon Nixon of the SDLP. There are 180 seats in the Legislative Commission and right now the current make up with 45 seats projected is SDLP: 33, Republicans: 7, and NRP: 5. This really is not a good night for the NRP."

*2 and a half hours later*

Benjamin: "With 6 states now in we can project that Governor Charles Kennedy is the next President of New Kasalonia. He has soundly defeated both Gov. Richard King and Pres. Baron. The SLDP also take sound control of the Confederate Governor's Council as Timothy Mueller has defeated Lt. Gov. James Hadley. Finals results also show that the SDLP will take control of the Legislative Commission with 122 seats out of 180 going to them. Republicans will have 44 seats, and the NRP with have a saddening 14 seats."

Final Results:

Charles Kennedy: 16,764,752 59%
Richard King: 8,240,301 29%
Aereonwen Baron*: 3,409,780 12%
*signifies incumbent

Social Democratic and Labour Party: 19,186,332 65% 122 Seats(+80)
Republican Party: 7,674,532 25% 44 Seats(+9)
National Redemption Party: 2,951,743 10% 14 Seats(-89)
Result: SDLP SuperMajority

Confederate Governor's Council
SDLP: 5 Seats(+2)
Republicans: 2 Seats(-)
NRP: 1 Seats(-2)

Pres. Baron called Gov. Kennedy to concede defeat and to congratulate him on his victory. President-elect Kennedy said he will give a victory speech "later on in the night."

Kennedy Inaugurated
You must be registered for see images
(West Medina, NK) - Charles Kennedy was inaugurated as the 20th President of the Confederacy of New Kasalonia, officially holding the title President of the Council of the Confederacy. However, he also holds the title of Chairman of the Confederate Governor's Council. Citing no laws against it Kennedy has stated that he will stay on in both positions "To better expand the office of the President, to better serve the people, and to put an end to this Confederacy as soon as possible." Kennedy says he will not hold either office by the end of 2018 "My plan is to have fresh elections in or around January in a more federal type of system. That's what I ran on and that's what I plan on doing." The plan itself is ambitious as a Constitution would have to be passed by the Legislative Commission of the Confederacy in a super-majority vote and then voted on by the people in a referendum. But with a Super-Majority in the Legislative Commission and support from Republicans on the Confederate Governor's Council it may be doable by the end of the year."

The President was inaugurated shortly after noon and gave a fairly brief address.

"To my friends, family, cabinet members, Legislative Commissioners, and people of the Confederacy change is coming to our nation. You all voted for change and now its time you have a government that fought for and worked for that change. It is the honor of my life to serve as President of this great nation. It is also the honor of my life to bring true change to this country. That will be my focus in these next few months. Our people are starving, looking for work, wanting a better life for their kids, wanting roads that are driveable, they're sick, and they need a government and leaders that can and will work for them. In coming days I will present new cabinet offices and present a new constitution to the Legislative Commission. Let's get this done."

Not long after this, he announced his cabinet
Vice-President and Secretary of State: Lucy Edwards
Secretary of Commerce: Ted Matthews
*Secretary of Defense: Dominik Malone(returning to Cabinet but moving to newly created Defense Department from Homeland Security)
Secretary of Homeland Security: Deborah Rudziak
*Secretary of Justice and Equality: Andrew Lee
Secretary of Agriculture: Benjamin Robbins
Secretary of Education: Allison Jackson
Secretary of Labor: Louie Gallagher
*Secretary of Culture and Media Development: Paul Daley
*Secretary of National Health: Timothy Adams
*Secretary of Urban Affairs: James Colmes
*Secretary of Rural and Local Government Affairs: Lisa Clinton
Secretary of Transportation: Grant Edwards
Secretary of Energy: Michael Daniels
*Secretary of Public Welfare: Kirsten Perry
*Secretary of National Development: FitzGerald Richardson
*Chief of Staff: Nathan Rutherford
*Chief of National Police Forces: John Isiah
*Administrator of National Intelligence: Harold Williams

An increase from a Cabinet(Confederate Council) of only 13 to 21 is the largest increase since the creation of the Departments of Energy, Transportation, and Labor in 1985 and the first increase since 2004 with the creation of Homeland Security. The President signed an Executive Order for each department he created a move which the Minority Leader of the Legislative Commission, Henry Jackson(R), called "a gross overstep of power potentially leading to a constitutional crisis and surely putting us on to the path of authoritarian leadership." The newly elected Chancellor of the Legislative Commission, Jason Carter said "The Minority Leader is blissfully unaware of what is happening. The President is in his full legal rights to create a government department or agency as he sees fit. I'd also like to point out that the Minority Leader, who was then the Republican Leader, did not have any comment over the gross abuses of power from President Baron."
