On approach to Hitherowe International
Lundenwych, Mayaland

On a flight that seemed like it had taken an eternity, the plane that carried Foreign Minister Rasgun Singh Multani, was finally ready to land at Hitherowe. Looking out the window as he was fastening his seatbeat, Multani could see the capital of Mayaland spread out below and let out a sighed relief, it doesn't matter how comfortable they make a plane, there is a point that is reached when you just want to get off, and that point was reached about three hours ago.

So what was it that made Multani, a man who didn't like long air flights, to make a single stop only flight from Lahore to Lundenwych? What was so important that he moved up a scheduled meeting with the Mayalanders when their own Foreign Minister was already scheduled to visit Lahore? It was the fact that the world was going a little crazy over a communist country in the northern Great Sea, a situation in which one wrong move could start up a war that could make the Great War look not-so-great in comparison. It was because of this, and others, why the Maharajah sent Multani on the long flight to Lundenwych to make sure, if the curry hit the fan, that Khalistan could rely on Mayaland if things got out-of-hand.

Prime Minister, Sir Weatherby Swann, welcome the Foreign Minister of Khalistan into his office.

"Welcome to Lundenwych, Your Excellency, I do hope your trip wasn't too harrowing. Please sit down. I know your communique said it was urgent for us to meet, but tell me, what would be so urgent that it would bring you to Lundenwych when the Foreign Secretary was to leave for Lahore the first of the month?"

"Sir Weatherby, I do apologize if my arrival has caused any scheduling difficulties, but as it is no longer calm on the international scene, my government thought that I should come here to meet with you now rather than wait for your foreign minister to come to Lahore. As the Batavian Crisis has been gathering more and more attention, my government is worried that events elsewhere may go overlooked, especially events in the Western Implarian and the Vostok Sea. The happenings in Batavia, as you must have noticed, had awakened Oikawa from its long hibernation, but it also has given Sheherbatskaya an excuse to rattle sabers, coupled that with the coup in Ratomkira and the heating up of the Carentania-Talemantros dispute, et cetera, we in Khalistan thought it best to make sure that, if things heat up further, can we count on Mayaland if the need arises?"

"No need to apologize, Minister Multani, as Khalistan's concerns are also Mayaland's concerns and the international situation is something to be very concerned about. There is one of your concerns I can alleviate right now, though, Mayaland will not forget or ignore its commitments to Khalistan, niether now in the future. If fact, since Sheherbatskaya has began making itself known on the international stage, the problems with Carentania and the instability in Ratomkira are more than enough for His Majesty's government to conclude that the partnership between Mayaland and Khalistan might even be expanded. Is this something your government might consider?"

"Expanded in what way, Sir Weatherby? The Khalsa Raj is willing to allow additional naval and air units to be stationed in Bombaim and Kolkata, but what we would like to see is Khalistan having access to more advanced systems, such as the over-the-horizon radar system we have been hearing about. Would that be something worth discussing?"

The OTH radar system, now that is ambitious, thinks Swann.

"What I had been thinking of is closer cooperation between our armed forces, even extending that cooperation to include other EDF members, or more cooperation between our defence industries, but the OTH, now that is something that would need consideration at the EDF council level.... But, due to Mayaland-Khalistan relations, I am sure there would be little trouble to convence the other members to be favorable towards the idea, though I am sure they will insist that Khalistan concents to bear an appropriate amount of the cost of the system."

"Closer cooperation between our armed forces, and to other EDF members as well is also splendid as is the increased cooperation between our defence industries, but the OTH, assure the other members that Khalistan has every intention to pay its own share of the expense of the system."

"In that case, I will have our Ambassador to the EDF place the request before the Governing Council for their approval. Is there anything else that you have in mind?"

"The other thing I wish to discuss has to do with Mayaland manufacturing in Khalistan as well as Mayaland companies relations with those of of Khalistan. As you have indicated your government's wish for closer cooperation militarily and economically, I would like to talk about Mayaland products being manufactured in Khalistan, both now and in the future."

Sir Weatherby is about to reply to the Khalistani's when an aide interupts and hands the Prime Minister a piece of paper. Wetherby quickly reads what is written and smiles.

"Well, Minister Multani, before we get further into what you had just brought up, it would seem the EDF Council has been discussing Khalistan. This communique is informing me that Council is offering Khalistan a Tier 3 membership in the alliance. Though it would not give your government a voice on the council at this time, it would give you access to EDF equipment and technology well beyond that you have now. Do you think your govenment will accept the invitation?"

Multani was surprised with what Sir Weatherby had to say and it took a few moments for it to sink in. A membership in the EDF? Fuller access to EDF equipment? Tier 3, no voice? Well, two out of three isn't bad.

"Sir Weatherby, to tell the truth, this is something my government has thought about, but has never took action on. Though I am sure they will say yes, I will still need to contact them and inform them of the invitation. If we can put the rest of the meeting on hold until a reply is received from Lahore, it would be appreciated."

It was the next day when Foreign Minister Multani meets again with Sir Weatherby Swann.

"Sir Weatherby, I am happy to inform you that His Majesty, Maharajah Singh and the Prime Minister says yes to the invitation from the EDF and thanks the the alliance for the invitation. The Prime Minister has authorized me to travel to Nuremburg to sign the required documentation."
