Peace in Gallo-Germania is the first responsibility of the civilized successor states of the Empire, and we applaud the Grand Duke's vigilance. However, we add words of caution. Some leading figures in Trier that are in the pockets of the Eiffellandian military-industrial complex, frustrated that their Christmas war plans were not fulfilled, are becoming increasingly unhinged, making wild accusations, and issuing all manner of strange statements. In a time when even Chancellor von Seydewitz is not immune from erratic behavior and strange statements, we hope Grand Duke Maximilien will provide strong, sane leadership for the nations of the West.

30 military officers arrested for plotting coup

Chagny

Burgundian police and intelligence agencies conducted a year long investigation into over 40 military personnel who were believed to be fabricating a plot to restore the Republic. 30 were arrested this morning in simultaneous operations. The personnel are all expected to be members of right-wing parties, but a police statement has warned against assuming direct political party affiliations.

The popularity of far-right parties who are calling for a Republican restoration are growing- citing what they see as a Grand Duchy who has been weak against communist aggression. Centrists and center-left largely say that the Grand Duchy has not only sharply increased its defense spending but has also remain confrontational when necessary. The government has declined to comment aside from the initial press release. Orange Party Senator Gerhard Lefeve has stated "we owe a lot to our current system. The fascist government should never be allowed to return. We have our shortcomings, but we should not forget where we are and who we are".

National Service begins next month despite protests

The Burgundian Government will formally begin national service for the first time since the mid-1970's beginning June 8th. Large protests around the country have been taking place but have remained peaceful. Initially opposed by the Grand Duke, the bill passed the Senate with only 13 in opposition. The plan will require all males to serve 2 years in the military or in national service elsewhere (fire protection, public works, postal work, law enforcement). Women will have the option of 18 months of military service or 2 years elsewhere. Exemptions will include those who are registered for classes with intention to pursue medical school or other extensive post-secondary work and those who intend to pursue a religious career. Protests have largely focused among youth. A recent pull showed that 73% of those over 40 years of age supported the measure while only 34% of those under 40 supported it.

Grand Duke addresses nation after Kadikistan's ambassador summoned.
Terms for Peace Offered. 48 Hours until WAR? Conscription of 250,000 ordered

Ivar's ambassador to the Grand Duchy was summoned to the Ducal Palace this morning where the Grand Duke presented Terms for Peace to the Ambassador. The terms were released to the media in the hours following. Kadikistan has 48 hours to respond or the Grand Duchy will consider itself at war. The terms were relatively plain:
1. Kadikistan and its allies immediately stand down from military action
2. Kadikistan and its allies immediately begin the process of demobilization
3. Kadikistan and its allies formally declare a state of peace
4. Kadikistan and its allies dissolve the Rurikgrad Pact

The government has approved the conscription of 250,000 despite the past week's protests on Bourgogne's own mobilization and implementation of national security protocols which include an upcoming rationing program. The Grand Duke's address to the nation has been provided below.

"Bourgogne. We find ourselves at a crossroads. The Rurikgrad Pact has decided that peace is not on its agenda and has pursued instead, conflict. We must ask if the Rurikgrad Pact itself continued to expand and others took their actions- what would they say? This goes beyond past imperialistic ambitions in the interest of their communist ideology. If Kadikistan and the Rurikgrad Pact accept the terms provided, we may all return to peace and prosperity and ensure thousands do not die needlessly in conflict. If the terms are ignored or denied, Bourgogne will be at war. This was not an easy decision. However, we must stand by our principles. If war comes it will be a struggle for the future between free peoples and those who are subjugated to the ideology of communist imperialism. If we and our allies lose the struggle, it will be the twilight of freedom across the globe. Nations would be dominoes in the face of the Rurikgrad Pact. If war is the path which is taken we call on all nations who wish to be free to join in the great endeavor to preserve freedom around the world. If free nations fail to heed the call and those free who would be embroiled in this conflict fail- they themselves will be in peril. It is for the world to unite in peace or war- the world must choose between freedom and subjugation. We cannot but respect those who bow out and choose neutrality. Nations must choose a path which suits them. But we must remind free nations who do that they gamble with their future. We cannot express our hope. We cannot put into words the hope that exists that peace can be achieved still. Be assured Bourgogne will over the next hours make every overture- every effort to bring this conflict to a quick peace. But if these efforts fail, we will make every effort and sacrifice every indulgence to ensure victory".

As our victory over Crotobaltislavonia has shown, communism can and will be defeated. The olive branch offered by Chagny represents a genuine chance to save lives.

WAR! Kadikistan ignores peace offer. "Hellbent on conflict" say analysts. Grand Duke announces Grand Duchy at war.

Kadikistan failed to reply to a Burgundian offer of peace with either a counteroffer, demands, or even a negative response. "It is clear to us that Kadikistan never had any intention of anything but war. Their actions are simply the culmination of years of imperialistic aggression" said a government source. "They simply are and have been- hellbent on conflict" said the source. The Grand Duke took to television and radio once again to announce war. The government has reportedly issued @Crotobaltislavonia with an ultimatum. The ambassador for Crotobaltislavonia was summoned this morning and was reportedly instructed to inform his government that they had 12 hours to:

1.Disarm all military forces within their border
2. Give Bourgogne complete, unrestricted military access
3. All airspace will be policed by Burgundian aircraft

The same Burgundian source noted that they do not expect Crotobaltislavonia to accept the terms, which the source admitted were harsh. Meanwhile the Grand Duke announced spoke this afternoon.

"Citizens of Bourgogne and the world,
For the last six decades, Bourgogne has walked the fine line to protect peace in our little corner of the world. We offered Trivodnia our hand as imperialist nations sought to gobble up our friends as a matter of ideology, greed, and imperial ambition. Now we face those same nations. The same nations who tell their people that Bourgogne and others are the imperialists. We can now rightfully say that we are not the imperialists they claim. Our conflict is not with our Frankish brothers. Our war is against those who would enslave others. Many free nations will sit quietly on the sidelines, wagering that their nation will remain safe and sound by staying out of the conflict. It will only be time until these red imperialists come knocking on their door. We must face this war with resolve. We must seek in our hearts how much we must sacrifice for our values of peace, freedom, and order. We must see this to the end. May god bless us in this endeavor".
