The Republic of Pindorama finds the Ionian decision to draft a Treaty of Mutual Defence for Long Sea nations to be contradictory to earlier declarations of permanent neutrality. We hereby request clarification on the long-term foreign policy objectives of Ionia.

Most Honorable Ladies and Gentlemen,

Article VI. of the 2nd Declaration of Permanent Neutrality of the Ionian Confederacy clearly states that "The Ionian Confederacy may [...] only engage in Mutual Defence and Trade Agreements." The Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty classifies as the former with elements of the latter, both of which are clearly allowed.

The idea for the LGMDT was not solely Ionian but was in fact an joint proposition of the Eiffellander, Ionian and Nichsteinian Ministers of Foreign Affairs. While the Treaty is open to all nations it is mainly aimed at the three founding nations and does not have a clear purpose to expand nor does it hold hegemonic purposes.

Ionia aims to retain her neutrality and tranquility and the Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty achieves just that for all three nations; nothing more, nothing less. We believe the slogan offered by our friends from the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein clearly states our goals and ideals "Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty: United in Neutrality!". We will propose that it be adopted by the Council and Member Nations of the Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty as an official slogan of our organisation, preferably in its Latin form, "In Neutralitatis Concodria".

Most Truly,
Aristotle F. Kifisodotou
Minister of Foreign Affairs

We believe the Ionian Confederacy will find participation in a military alliance is contrary to commonly accepted definitions of permanent neutrality.

We would like to take this opportunity for the Ionian government to note the Republic of Pindorama shares the concerns of other nation-states over the militarisation of the Long Sea region, and the potential threat this poses to commercial traffic in this vital shipping lane.

Most Honorable Ladies and Gentlemen,

Commonly accepted definitions are of no interest to us. As far as we're concerned if our Declaration and Definition of Neutrality accept it it's allowed.

While we appreciate your concern for peace in the Long Sea, I firmly believe this Treaty will help make the Long Sea safer and protect it from those who might seek to destabilize it. After all a Mutual Defence Treaty and a couple of Trade Agreements haven't done much to destabilize other regions of the world and I do not believe this will be any different.

Most Truly,
Aristotle F. Kifisodotou
