Köln, Eiffelland-Retalia

Michael Wurms put his bicycle in the small shed in the garden. Then he locked the shed door, went inside through the back door, walked to the front door, opened it, went to the paper mailbox, took the mail out and went back inside. He lived in a terrace house in a suburb of Köln. The terrace house was of the type with a car garage and the front door on the ground floor, then living room and kitchen on the first floor and the sleeping rooms on the second floor. Behind the garage, there was a small room that his parents used as an office. His mother, a higher-level government official of the municipality of Köln, worked from home every Friday. His father was a general practitioner. He had a brother and a sister who both studied and lived in student houses closer to the city centre of Köln.
There was only one letter in the mailbox, and that letter was for him. It was from the governmental department responsible for the management and planning of the society service. Michael opened the envelope and started to read. The letter was his call to arms. Michael wondered about it, because originally he had been planned in for only civil service. Because he had absolved the Gymnasium, he would serve as an officer. First, he would go through 6 months officer education, and then he would lead a platoon as an ensign or cornet.
Michael didn’t know that all the boys who absolved the Abitur this year and had been deemed fit for service had been called to arms. The government had taken the decision to extend the army (although that had happened behind closed doors; only a small group of people knew about those plans), but without realising that an enormous amount of officers would be needed as well. And those officers were not conscripts. At least not the officers of the rank of First Lieutenant onwards. It was impossible to just open a can of officers; they had to be educated first. And that took time. In order to fill that gap, a massive round of promotions was prepared, former officers were asked to come back with a promotion, and older officers of the ranks of Lieutenant-Colonel and higher were prepared for having to postpone their retirements. Furthermore, all the boys who absolved the Abitur this year and were not fulfilling their military services yet were called to arms per 1 February to perform the 6 months education to become Ensigns and Cornets.
The government also had another pleasant surprise. The recent war led to the notion among many young Eiffelloretalians that Eiffelland-Retalia would cease to exist when the Rurikgrad Pact and Serenierre would take up arms again. As a result, many applied for jobs as professional soldiers. The speed with which people came to the recruitment offices was so high that the plans were changed. Originally, seven armies with 120,000 soldiers each were foreseen, of which one would become a professional army and one a partially professional army to man the additional missile batteries. This was changed to six armies with 120,000 soldiers each, of which two armies would become professional armies, and four armies would be filled with conscripts. One of the conscript armies would be dedicated to the missile systems and fall under the jurisdiction of the Air Force.
Among the people who applied at the recruitment offices, there were quite some people who had the ambition to become officers. Instead of going to the officer academies, they would undergo the same training as conscript officers and become ensigns and cornets first, and then follow courses while commanding platoons in order to obtain officer academy degrees and become full-fledged officers in that way.

Island Rügen, Eiffelland-Retalia

Rathenau Militärausrüstung had once proposed a missile with a range of 1800 km to the Government of Eiffelland. At that moment, that offer was rejected. But then the war happened, and exactly that type of missile was used by the other side. So it was decided to get out of the moth balls and build it. But of course tests were needed. Those tests were carried out from the rocket launching place in Rügen that was normally used for the space plan of Eiffelland-Retalia, Pelasgia and Bourgogne..Today a missile of the new type was fired from here. It hit its target in the North of Eiffelland-Retalia without a problem. Of course more tests were needed. The story fed to the press was that RRF Flugzeugwerke was testing out a new type of rocket, but that unfortunately the test failed, because of which the rocket crashed in the North of Eiffelland-Retalia.
This missile was not the only missile initiative initiated by the Government. Rathenau Militärausrüstung had received an order for many surface-to-air missile systems, anti-ship missile systems, ground-fixed tactical missile systems and of course many missiles. A couple of antiballistic missile systems foreseen with a lot of missiles had already been built. At this moment, Eastern Occitania, the Northernmost coastline of Continental Retalia and the Northernmost two islands in the Retalian Sea were foreseen with new surface-to-air systems, anti-ship missile systems and tactical missile systems. The aim was to make the islands unconquerable and the skies above those islands as well as the skies above Eastern Occitania impenetrable for hostile planes. But this happened under strict confidentiality.
Another important decision had also been taken. Despite Eiffelland’s signature under a treaty forbidding chemical and biological weapons, the government had decided to build such weapons. The rationale was simple: Eiffelland-Retalia would not be able to hold off a combined Serenierre/Rurikgrad Pact ground attack, so Eiffelland-Retalia would massively use such weapons if foreign troops would set foot on Eiffelloretalian ground. The use of napalm wouldn’t be a taboo, either. But also this happened under strict confidentiality.

Trier, Eiffelland

Meine Fresse, those people in Villesen know no boundaries. That, or they suffer from Gilles-de-la-Tourette. See this: ‘However given the abject defeat and outright emasculation at the hands of a Serenien nation led by a woman no less could certainly explain the patriarchal need to assert their dominance and could provide a sociological rationale for the irrational continuation of a destabilizing policy.’ Now who are the irrationals here, with such texts?” Chancellor Rheinfeld said.
“It is wise not to react on that, other than by referring to them. Let the world conclude that Martinique is the madwoman. On the longer term, their statements will backfire. And also on the shorter term: The harsher the texts from Villesen, the more people go to the recruitment offices for the armed forces. Especially Retalians. Meanwhile, we can fill a third army with professionals,” Minister of Defence Egon Kranzer said. “Something else. We decided earlier not to go for seven land armies but for six. I advice you to reverse that decision. We will also need the seventh land army. I will tell you why.”

After some explanations by Minister Kranzer, the ministers agreed to establish a third professional land army and to establish four instead of three conscript land armies. A total of seventeen conscript brigades would be coupled to certain areas of Eiffelland-Retalia. Seven conscript brigades would be stationed in the southern half of Continental Eiffelland to guard off a possible Kadikistani attack through Ostmark. The conscript army in Occitania would be assisted by a professional army. The remaining armies would be kept ready for action in the continental parts of Eiffelland-Retalia.
Per the first of February, the first of April and the first of June, extra groups of conscripts would be called for military duty. Per the first of August, Retalian young people would have to serve society service as well, including military service.
Meanwhile, the Eiffellandian weapons industry was producing the equipment the extra military forces would need. Slowly but surely. The economy was doing better, but was still not completely recovered. Too much military production could kill the recovery.

“How is the situation with the Missiles, Herr Verteidigungsminister?” Rheinfeld asked.
“Now the complete coastline of Continental Retalia is foreseen with surface-to-air, anti-ship and tactical missile systems, as well as antimissile systems and anti-ballistic missile systems. The same accouts for Eastern Occitania, and the islands Barrettini, Levanzo, Pellworm, Gröde, San Nicola, Ponza and Farca. The next parts on the list are Norderney, Föhr and Vallese-Wallis. Then Helgoland, Rügen, Fehmarn, Sylt, Blauort, Borkum, Baltrum and Morsum are on the list. As decided before, the brigades dedicated to the area will man the missile systems,” Minister Kranzer said. “I can also announce that the tests with the new 1800 km ballistic missile have been finalised. Rathenau Militärausrüstung and Magirus-Deutz are starting the production of the systems.”
“So everything goes according to plan. We must not forget the defence of our continental territory, but that is currently handled as well,” Chancellor Rheinfeld said. “As soon as the economy is doing better, we can increase our military spending faster.”
“We have to be aware, however, of the possibillity that our military efforts could leak. Will leak. On the longer term, we cannot hide that we are suddenly calling many more conscripts to arms and are recruiting a lot more professional soldiers,” Minister Leverkühn said.
“We are completely aware of that. Up to now, we have succeeded in keeping everything a secret. We have to do our best to keep it that way, “ Chancellor Rheinfeld said.
“By the way, there is one more thing I have to mention for the 1800 km ballistic missile. We managed to make systems which effectively spread Bacillus anthracis and Yersinia pestis; the latter in such a way that they can cause pulmonal plague,” Minister Kranzer said. “The Bacillus anthracis can be deployed on the battlefield, but we think it would be better to deploy the Yersinia pestis only when we decide to make enemy cities far beyond the battle line a target. I must also emphasize that we should only use these biological weapons when we are close to loosing the war, or when the enemy uses weapons of mass destruction against us. The same applies to the chemical weapons.”
“Of course. By the way, how many people know about these weapons?” Chancellor Rheinfeld asked.
“Apart from us fifteen, only the people developing them. We have taken all precautions possible to keep this a secret,” Minister Kranzer said.
“OK. Good. I close this meeting, and I emphasize again the absolute necessity to keep this all a secret,” Chancellor Rheinfeld said.

Airport Trier-Schönefeld

The airport Trier-Schönefeld is a very busy one. It serves as the international and intercontinental airport for a large part of Eiffelland, as well as for parts of the islands of Norderney and Vallese-Wallis. The other intercontinental airports of Eiffelland-Retalia are Bremen, Altburg and Losena.
It was this airport where Christoph and Bastian were walking to the plane that would take them to Florida, Natalia. They were lucky with the planning of the January exams: They both had their last exams at the beginning instead of the end of the week. So their intersemester holiday was a bit longer than the traditional one week. They decided to take the opportunity for a longer vacation in Natalia, instead of going to the mountains in the North, like all Eiffellandian students did during the intersemester holiday. So now they were going to the gate leading them to an Eiffelloretalian built from the Eiffelländische Luftfahrtgesellschaft (ELG). From Florida, they would go to the mountains of Natalia. Christoph would climb for a few days, while Bastian would make some hill walking day tours.
They had already passed the customs. Now they bought some bottles of water for in the plane. Then they walked to the gate, where their tickets and passports were checked again. In the plane, they walked to their seats. While looking through the window, they saw a plane from the Ostmarker airline company. It was minus two degrees celsius in Trier. It had snowed the day before, but the runways were clean now. It would be over plus 35 degrees celsius in Florida. Christoph and Bastian had clothed themselves in such a way that they could simply take off a layer of clothes when needed.
The walking paths were detached from the plane. The plane drove backwards, made a turn and started to go to the runway. The copilot introduced himself and the pilot in German, Italian and Engellish. Then one of the stewardesses repeated in Aurarian what the copilot just said. Christoph and Bastian looked at the stewardesses giving the safety instructions. These instructions were given in German, but could be heard in Italian, Burgundian French, Engellexian Engellish, Gunnish Engellish, Pelasgian and Aurarian through the headphones. At the runway, the plane started to drive slowly, accellerated, and took off.

A touristic village in the mountains of Natalia

It didn’t happen very often that Christoph woke up before Bastian. Most of the times, they had to wake up at the same time to go to university or to learn. When they didn’t have to wake up at a certain time, Christoph mostly slept a little bit longer than Bastian. The latter didn’t consider that a problem; he loved the feeling of a sleeping Christoph in his arms. Most of the times, Bastian spooned Christoph when they slept.
Bastian was spooning Christoph as well this morning. But now it was Christoph who woke up first. And he enjoyed the rare moments that that happened; he loved the feeling of lying in Bastian’s arms. So he stayed in bed until Bastian woke up. The temperature had gone down until 25 degrees celsius when they went to bed last night. They hadn’t used the blankets, or even a sheet. They just lied naked on the bed.
This morning, they had set the alarm clocks of their handies. Christoph would join a mountaineering session, and Bastian would go on a walk. When the alarm clocks went off, Bastian woke up. He kissed Christoph in the neck and said: “Good morning.”
“Good morning,” Christoph said. He moved Bastians hand to his mouth and kissed on it. Then he pressed his body a bit tighter to Bastian’s body.
“Do I interpret your intentions correctly, you insatiable little thing?” Bastian grinned. “And do we have time for that?”
“We do have time for a quickie,” Christoph giggled.
Oh mein süßes Finklein, du bist unwiderstehlich,” Bastian said eroticly. Then he placed a love-bite in Christoph’s neck while grabbing a condom package. [Oh, my sweet little finch, you are irresistible.}

Mountains of Natalia

Christoph heard a swear in Engellish. Then the sound of somebody falling and the sound of metal hooks being ripped out of the mountain wall. The first thing he said was “Mist”. He looked to the left, then to the right. He saw that it was one of the people from a group he had decided to avoid who had fallen down. Those people had told once where they exactly came from, but Christoph had forgotten about that. He politely avoided them, and he had his reasons for that.
But now one of them had fallen down. Not very far, but it was clear that the man needed help. It was also clear that the other men from that group couldn’t help their friend. They had ignored the advices of the Natalian moauntaineers under whose guidance they climbed, and had chosen the wrong route along the mountain wall. Basically, the ones who hadn’t fallen down were stuck. They couldn’t move upward or downward. The man who had tried to do so, had fallen down. Luckily not so far though. There was a chance that he was still alive. Christoph looked at the three people on his line. They were all from the German speaking part of Continental Retalia.
Wir sind am nähesten zum Mann der runtergefallen ist. Gehen wir hin?” he shouted to them. [We are closest to the man who fell down. Shall we go there?]
All three agreed. One of them shouted to the other people: “We’ll go to the guy who fell down. You try to rescue the other four.”

Was sind die eigentlich für Idioten? Ignorieren die Hinweise der Bergführer und sind dann erstaunt dass sie vom Berg fallen,” Christoph said to the other people while climbing to the victim. [What kind of idiots are they? They ignore the advices of the mountain guides and then are baffled when they fall off the mountain.]
Die haben mal erzählt wo die herkommen, aus …” one of the Retalians said. [They told once where they are from, from …]
[I don’t want to know. They call us weaklings because of the war, because of the Engellpox thing and because we are more concerned about our safety and use more mountain hooks, and then they say that the risk to fall down belongs to mountaineering. And after that, they bully me because they found out that I’m gay. Arrogant assholes. And now they behave like they know it all and don’t need any advice, want to tell us how to climb a mountain, and get into trouble. I’ll get them off the mountain, but after that I don’t want to see them again.]
Pfui Teufel,” one of the Retalians said.
It was true that the Eiffelloretalians used more mountain hooks than mountaineers from other countries, but now Christoph and the Retalians used a real lot of mountain hooks. The reason was, that they didn’t know in what condition they would find the victim. The lines they drew were enough to hold a total of seven men of which one was carried in a tray. And they followed Eiffelloretalian principles for that.
Meanwhile, a Natalian rescue team was climbing up the wall as well, with a tray. It took a couple of hours before they were there. They were amazed but also happy with the lines Christoph and the Retalians had drawn. The victim was alive, but had suffered some fractures, so he had to be carried off the mountain. The Retalians helped the rescue team with getting the victim from the mountain. Christoph went off the mountain as the last persion. He removed all the hooks. That was a principle of himself: You tidy up the mess you created. Another advantage was, that the mountain hooks could be re-used.

A few hours later, back in the valley

“Sir, we want to thank you for …” one of the friends of the victim started. But Christoph cut him short and started to rant.
“I don’t need your thankfulness. I don’t know how skilled you guys really are, but you can’t climb a mountain with arrogance and macho-behaviour. Mountaineering has nothing to do with heroism, only with knowing what you’re doing on a mountain. Ignoring the advices of the people who live here and doing as if you know it better than them isn’t cool; it’s stupid. Furthermore, you mock us for using so many mountain hooks, but we don’t fall down several tens of meters when we loose grip, simply because of the many hooks we use. It could have prevented some of your friend’s fractures if you would have used more hooks as well. And stop doing as if we don’t have a clue about mountaineering; we have mountains as well, so we have experience with them as well,” he said sharply.
“Well, Mr. Knowitall, apparently you consider yourself such a great mountaineer. Let’s compare our skills. Tomorrow morning at seven at the foot of that mountain.”
“You haven’t understood a word of what I said, and you haven’t understood at all why you got into trouble this morning, have you? That mountain has been dissuaded to climb. Furthermore, I am not interested in comparing my skills with yours. If you want to climb that mountain tomorrow, fine, but I won’t be there to rescue you,” Christoph said sharply. Then he turned around and walked away.
The Retalians followed him. One of them said: “Du bist doch aus Trier, oder? Kann nicht anders sein, wegen deines Akzents. Aber dann frage ich mich: Wo in deiner Nähe gibt’s Berge? Flachland weit und breit! Aber fürs Weitere hast du recht.[You are from Trier, or not? Can’t be different with your accent. But then I ask myself: Where in your neighbourhood are the mountains. It’s flatland whereever you look! But you are right for the remainder.]

Coast of Natalia

Christoph, Bastian, Ludwig and Jonathan had arrived at a sea resort on the beach of Natalia. They would spend the last three days of their holiday on the beach. Ludwig and Jonathan had arrived in Natalia on 26 January, after which they had joined Christoph and Bastian for a short tour through the inlands of Natalia to spot lions, zebras, giraffes and other savanna animals. They had shot their Nichsdorf Lumin smartphones full with pictures.
Today was a special day for Ludwig and Jonathan: One year ago, they started dating. Well, their relationship started in the night of 30 to 31 January, but they took 31 January as the start of their relationship, because officially it was already 31 January when it started. It started in the snow of the Harz, but now they celebrated their one-year anniversary on the beach.
Christoph, Bastian, Ludwig and Jonathan had decided to politely avoid the Westernessers, Sereniens and people from Rurikgrad Pact countries. That shouldn’t be that difficult: They would go to the gay pubs. The sporadic Westernesser, Serenien or person from Rurikgrad Pact countries would not talk about the war or the Engellpox, because that would hamper the chance on a date.
Yesterday Christoph, Bastian, Ludwig and Jonathan hadn’t gone out; they were tired of the journey. This morning they were at the breakfast buffet at 9am. After breakfast, they would go to the beach. They weren’t wearing beach clothes, however. Well, they were wearing their swimming trunks under their bermuda shorts, but they sticked to the rule “you wear beach clothes only at the beach”. They didn’t wear flipflops under their bermuda shorts, either, but dark blue or white sneakers.
They went for a vegetarian version of a typically Eiffellandian breakfast: Coffee, milk, bread, various kinds of cheese, cucumber and cherry tomatoes. This because Christoph and Bastian were vegetarians. Eiffellandians and Retalians are generally not fans of the typically Engellish breakfast; the only thing they cook or bake for breakfast are eggs (although coffee in the morning is a must as well). The traditional Eiffellandian breakfast consists of bread, cold meat, cheese, soft sausage, jam and sometimes eggs. In the weekend, Eiffellandians eat white bread at breakfast, but it is dark bread on the other days. The situation in Retalia is a bit different. The German-speaking parts of Retalia have the same breakfast as Eiffelland, but the Italian speaking parts of Retalia have a breakfast that is a mixture of Occitanian, Serenien, Burgundian, Larsian, Fleuroix and Eiffellandian traditions. Meanwhile the Eiffellandian breakfast has adopted some features from Burgundy, Lars, Occitania and Fleur as well, but it remains typically Eiffellandian.

After breakfast, Ludwig, Christoph, Bastian and Jonathan went back to their rooms to get their beach towels, sun glasses and sun cream, and they went to the resort beach. At the beach, they took off their T-shirts, sneakers and bermuda shorts, and creamed themselves in with sun cream (water resistant, protecting against UV-A and UV-B, and factor 100; they were Eiffellandians).
Bastian had a couple of scars on his left leg because of various operations. The one on his lower leg was already visible when he wore bermuda shorts, but now that he wore only swimming trunks, the one on his upper leg became visible as well. Also the fact that his left knee was higher than his right knee became visible. But apart from that, his body was in perfect shape. He made sure it was; he and Christoph were real health freaks, were very careful about what they ate and drank, and did sports very often. As a result, neither guys suffered from body fat. They were both more tendinous than musculous. Bastian was 1.86 meters tall, Christoph 1.78 meters tall. Bastian was 26 years old, had light brown quarterlong hair and blue eyes, Christoph was nearly 25 years old, had maroon halflong hair and brown eyes; he also had a bit darker skin than Bastian, Ludwig and Jonathan.
Ludwig and Jonathan were less health freaks than Christoph and Bastian, but also they were careful with what they ate and drank, and also they did a lot of sports. Body fat was not a problem to them, either. Ludwig did Taekwon-Do, so he was very flexible in his joints. Also he was more tendinous than musculous. He was 1.86 meters tall, and had light blonde halflong hair and sapphire blue eyes. He was very precise on his looks. Not a single hair peaked the wrong way after he had done it. He was 25 years old, but looked like 18. He hardly had any beard growth. He was often asked to show his ID when he wanted to buy alcohol; he always showed the ID-card belonging to his incognito identity in those cases. Jonathan was also 1.86 meters tall and also had a tendinous body. He had dark blonde quarterlong hair with large curls, and green eyes. He was 24 years old, but also looked a bit younger.
Neither guys had any chest, belly or back hair, and they regularly shaved their armpits.

The day was filled with sunbathing, swimming, playing volleyball, drinking juices and occasionally a cocktail or longdrink, and enjoying life on the beah in general. During the day, Jonathan saw many girls look at Ludwig, and also some guys. He couldn’t blame them for that. Ludwig looked gorgeous in his perfectly fitting short swimming trunks. Let the people look, that doesn’t do harm, he thought. Ludwig and Jonathan understood well enough that too much jealousy kills a relationship, so they let each other free with respect to the people they chatted with, and didn’t mind when somebody looked too intensely at one or the other. Christoph and Bastian followed the same path. Both couples were monogamous though; their love was too intense to even think of cheating.

After dinner, they took a shower and dressed for the night. They didn’t know if the local dresscode allowed shorts, so they decided not to appear as tourists and wear white shirts on long jeans trousers. In the local gay club, they met some Aurarians and made fun with them.
When one of the Aurarians proposed to toast with tequila, Christoph said: “Oh no, not again.”
Bastian explained: “Sorry, but Christoph had a bit of a traumatic experience with a glass of whisky last year.”
“Well, then it’s your job to comfort him,” one of the Aurarians smirked.
“I did, in the best way possible,” Bastian grinned. Then Christoph and Bastian kissed each other on the mouths.
“But what if we seven do a tequila?” Another Aurarian asked.
“Sorry, but we are a bit too careful with our teeth to bite into a lemon. We heard enough about that from friends studying dentistry,” Jonathan said.
“My goodness, you guys are boring,” a third Aurarian said.
“It depends on how you look at it. We prefer to keep our beauty,” Ludwig smiled.
“But what about toasting with Korn?” Jonathan proposed.

It was 4:30 when they arrived back at the beach resort. It was still 25 degrees celsius. The waning moon was standing in the Southeastern part of the dark sky covered with stars. The milky way was clearly visible. All four were a bit drunk and very happy. When Bastian proposed to go to the beach for a naked swim, they all agreed. So they went to the beach, took off their clothes and ran into the sea. They wettened each other and swam around.
At a certain moment, Ludwig and Jonathan embraced each other tightly and started to kiss passionately. That was a signal to Christoph and Bastian to silently leave the scene. They grabbed their clothes and walked away.

“To be very honest, Ludwig and Jonathan had a very good idea,” Bastian grinned. He took a condom out of a pocket of his trousers and showed it to Christoph.
“Let’s look for a good spot,” Christoph giggled.

“Oh, Jonathan, you’re so sweet, you’re so gorgeous, I love you,” Ludwig sighed. He was lying on his back on the beach while Jonathan was lying on him. They had just eagerly made love. Ludwig put his arms and legs tighter around Jonathan.
“I love you too, beautiful prince,” Jonathan said. They started to kiss.
When they heard Christoph and Bastian making love, they shortly stopped kissing, giggled a bit and started to kiss again. After a couple of minutes, Ludwig sighed passionately: “I also took a condom with me. Do it again.”

“Oh, Bastian, you’re the best thing that happened to me. I love you so much,” Christoph sighed. He was lying on his back with Bastian on him. Christoph had wrapped his arms and legs around Bastian. They had just passionately made love.
“You are also the best thing that happened to me, mein kleines Finklein,” Bastian said. He gave a little kiss on Christoph’s nose. “You’re my eternal love.” He fondled Christoph over his hair and started to give him a lot of small kisses on his face.
“Hey, it’s becoming light again,” he said after a couple of minutes. “And Ludwig and Jonathan are still making love.”
“Or maybe making love again?” Christoph giggled. Then they started to kiss.
A few minutes later, Christoph said: “I also took a condom with me.”
“You are full of good ideas, Finklein,” Bastian said. He grabbed Christoph’s trousers and took the condom.

Ludwig and Jonathan kissed each other passionately. They had just made love for the second time. They only noticed that it was becoming light again when they shortly stopped kissing.
“Oh, this is such a fantastic night,” Ludwig sighed. He embraced Jonathan a bit tighter. He was still lying on his back on the beach, with Jonathan lying on him.
“This is the greatest night ever,” Jonathan sighed. They started to kiss again.

“It’s light again,” Ludwig said two minutes later.
Jonathan kissed him on the mouth. “Let’s stay here for a bit longer,” he said.
“But what if people see us lying here?” Ludwig giggled.
“Well, how bad can that be?” Jonathan grinned. “We’re both worth to look at. Besides, Christoph and Bastian are not ready yet.”
“Well, that’s right,” Ludwig giggled. The sound of Christoph and Bastian making love could not be overheard.
Ludwig gave Jonathan a little kiss on the nose. Then he said: “To be honest, it is great lying here. Let’s stay here till the sun has risen.”

Bastian noticed the sun beam first. He kissed Christoph on the nose and said: “The sun has risen.” They had just made love again.
Christoph asked: “Do we want to risk being caught by the first morning guests?”
“Well, they will definitely be awake then,” Bastian giggled. Then he looked around. “Ludwig and Jonathan have already gone to the hotel. Maybe better to follow their example. It would be a bit embarrassing when we fall asleep here and people wake us up.”
