Map Opinions, Questions, Requests, Concerns, Etc Thread

I’m opening this thread so that players can do everything above in the title and discussion can occur. I cannot fulfill all requests, but I can hopefully have a discourse with the forum on what they’d like to see added and what things they like or dislike.

It’s a rather open ended thread and I’ll do my best to respond to anything people have to say on the map. Also hopefully where discussions can go as to not clog up the map application thread. Thanks!

Kudos voor the map update! Nice to see you've added resources and 'Antarctica' to it. Really like it. I also hope you preserve icons and labels for holy cities and mountains. The lines depicting air connections or airlifts are somewhat overkill to me, I must say.

I would create more contrast between some of the depicted countries and the sea layer: countries in gold, light blue or orange, especially their smaller islands, aren't as visible as they used to.

Mhm, yes I can imagine that... I got rid of a lot of thicker lines this update so I can understand how its harder to see somethings. I'll try to fix that the next update.

The lines are for union nations like Engellex and Scania... also, for alliances. I tried to find ways to display relationships without doing the usual color blobs. I'll look to continue to try to improve this feature.

I plan to reform holy city icons in the future, and mountains will remain. However, I am also hoping to get rivers in soon as well... we'll see... I am worried a bit on information overload...

Would it be possible to upload a very dumbed down map for us to work with for graphics manipulation? A three tone map maybe with land, borders, and water? The filter that's applied that makes it look nice also makes it impossible to select just land or sea in photoshop/paint 3d...

On a side note, I've been thinking about updating the map's look and feel. We've had this template for well over a year... has it been two? It might be time for something fresh, and if people would like that, I think I'd be open for taking more time between updates to make larger changes.

I don't dislike the current feel of the map, the filter and color of the water and land cause some of the pixels in each to match, which was the main reason I want a separate map for graphics. If by fresher, you mean maybe something more like a Kaiserreich-style map mod, that'd be gorgeous, but that's just me.

The map style was to match the time period we roleplayed in back then: the Interbellum. Since we have moved up to the present, I feel the map should have a contemporary look. Here's my 2 cents involved concerning the general layout:

• Colour compositions like in these examples:

  . Gray for the landmass, light blue for oceans, and white for a north and south pole?
  . Borders and colour layers for nationstates (political map).
  . Fonts/font families like Arial (Narrow), Calibri (Light) or Century Gothic
• Include a meridian, equator and a basic set of latitudes (longitudes optional)
• Include cities, capitals and resources as displayed now.
  
  
• If you're to include geographic elements as rivers, mountains, deserts etc.; only for existing countries so new players can help shape their terrain.

An Onieda I think is a a Jurzy, that spun his tires on an attempted return, and left on the map to encourage his return, but maybe it is time to green it too... I leave that decision to you, as you will be their neighbor.
