Duchess addresses Senate, lays out new foreign policy
Chagny
Grand Duchess Mireille addressed the Senate in Chagny yesterday. Her topic was the foreign policy of Bourgogne in Gallia and Germania in the months and years after the Seven Days War.
Excerpt: "For a long time it seemed Bourgogne was half in and half out, in Trier, in Trivodnia. Much has changed since the war to the east and we must go forward looking to build new relationships with new partners. To the south, the states around the Retalian Sea continue to strive to find some kind of order, especially Eiffelland and Serenierre. To the north, there is the Council of the North. To the west is Engellex and beyond Westernesse. Where do we turn?
"One might say the natural choice is to follow our sister monarchy Elben and seek entrance into the Council of the North. That is something we shall pursue and in due course will lay before the Senate for its consideration. We will also seek to strengthen ties to our brethren in Gallia for Bourgogne must never forget its heritage...
"In the meantime, we will continue the reforms of our illustrious predecessor of blessed memory to ensure that the armed forces of Bourgogne remain strong so that those who would wish the grand duchy harm will think twice. We will work with our brothers in Elben to forge new and stronger ties going forward...
"In conclusion, for my own part, I call upon all of you, in this chamber and across Bourgogne, to put aside factional differences and look to the ties that bind us together under God."
