Office of the Foreign Minister
The government of the Great Southern Kingdom of Justosia commends His Imperial Majesty for joining the democracies of Europe. We hope that Azraq continues to modernize.

We hope you find, as we did during the reign of our last absolute monarch HRM Marco Francisco I in 1882, that the crown can work hand in hand with for example a Prime Minister & senate while retaining proper powers. We believe we have perfected our experiment we call a Monarchist Republic. God bless you. Viva Justosia.

The Empire of Azraq has been a fully fledged democracy since the 1981 Constitution. The Imperial Parliament has only been temporarily suspended in response to instability globally and conflict in Himyar and the inaction of the government of the time. A general election will be called once the war in Loago is resolved and the Empire's borders are secure.

Himyar's latest war is our fault

A weak Azraq has allowed Port Stanley to invade Loago while Natalia grows its influence there and in Cabaon

Just as Himyar was crowing about its supposed superior civilised status to Gallo-Germania, which had just witnessed two devastating wars, one involving chemical weapons and child soldiers, conflict broke out in Loago.

Trouble had been brewing in the former Virumaan colony for some time. Old tensions between the Fante and Wala were flaring up, the white minority tried to cling to power and the Loagan League of Communists (LLC) attempted to replicate the Rurikgrad Pact's martial success in Trivodnia, albeit on a far less grand scale.

Azraq, run by a government of amateurs, pacifists and ex-guerillas, barely reacted. It took weeks for them to force Virumaan and Elbener soldiers to withdraw, and even then not have all the white troops left. It took even longer for the Azraqi military to start targeting the LLC and back our Muslim brothers in the Fante Highlands.

Now we have Port Stanley, which is led by a woman, doing our dirty work for us in Loago. The ex-Marpesian colony has deployed over 6,000 soldiers to eliminate the LLC and their criminal allies the Burukova syndicate, using Azraqi territory as a launchpad for operations.

Some might argue we would do best to leave the lesser Nethians to their own squabbles. Yet inaction has also cost us influence in Cabaon, once part of the Cyanopian Empire, arguably the first true Azraqi Empire.

This why His Imperial Majesty was so wise to suspend the useless parliament and begin acting immediately on both Cabaon and Loago.

I have argued for some that Azraq should act more like the civilisational power it is, much like the Engellkin. We are a maritime, transcontinental peoples that were crafting obelisks when the Engellesh could barely erect a stone.

Yet to be the power we ought to be, we to be need more than past victories. Our military, deliberately ignored as it was a potential internal threat, must be massively invested in. But this cannot come at the cost of modernisation in the 19th century. Expensive distractions must be ditched to avoid crippling debt, as oil, gas and food are too volatile to rely on. It is either that or be outgunned by the settler states of Natal and Port Stanley.

Shamo parties demand parliament restored after Loago peace summit

The Justice Party and Movement for Poor and Dispossessed, joined by former coalition partner the Shamo People's Liberation Front, have called on His Imperial Majesty Boqor Tiirka Illah to restore parliamentary democracy once peace talks on Loago have concluded.

The joint statement comes as Himyari leaders from ETCOS, Port Stanley, Natalia and Loago arrive in the Imperial capital Jugol for a summit organised by the Emperor.

The Ivory Throne said in response the focus must be on securing the Empire's borders, which has been backed by the Party of Principles. However the call for parliament to be reinstated is likely to be echoed later by opposition parties such as the Ansar al-Imam and Dawamali Youth League, as well as a growing number of chiefs from the Council of Elders.

Tensions were running high after Imperial Gendarmes shot dead a number of Shamo demonstrators but a visit from the Emperor to the families of the deceased and a formal investigation has helped cool the situation.

However the Justice Party, SPLF and MPD have all vowed to press ahead with a Supreme Court challenge if the Emperor dissolves parliament and calls a new general election, as His Imperial Majesty has promised.

The Supreme Court upheld suspension on the grounds of domestic gridlock and global instability but legal experts are divided on case for dissolution.

NEWSFLASH: Foreign ministry downplays Justosia visit

In response to an escalating war of words between Beautancus and Justosia over planned wargames in the Implarian Ocean, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has downplayed the importance of the recent Imperial visit to Avalon, noting Azraq's wider foreign engagement.

"The treaty of non-aggression and friendship with the Great Southern Kingdom of Justosia and the supporting memorandum of understanding regarding trade liberalisation are just some of the recent diplomatic initiatives of His Imperial Majesty," said a ministry spokesman.

HIM Boqor Tiirka Illah travelled to the Justosian capital after "repeated" invitations, the spokesman continued, before noting the recent deal with Ostmark, a frequent victim of the Justosian government's official pronouncements.

The leaders of Auraria, Cabaon and Serenierre are all due to visit Azraq shortly, the spokesman added. Talks over a state visit to Eiffelland-Retalia are also happening too, he revealed.

The Empire of Azraq means no disrespect to the Great Southern Kingdom of Justosia but recent Justosian statements had the Empire concerned that the world may misinterpret the Avalon Treaty of Non-aggression and Friendship.

Azraq continues to pursue a policy of friendly relations with all possible nations, which is why we deal with everyone from the People's Republics of Serenierre and Ostmark through to the Kingdoms of Eiffelland and Justosia.

NEWSFLASH: Lawmakers arrested for criticising Imperial foreign policy

Politicians from the Dawamalian Youth League and Party of the Future have been detained after attacking the Emperor for engaging with the People's Republics of Ostmark and Serenierre, two communist states.

"While our brave armed forces target communists in Loago and Port Stanley, His Imperial Majesty does deals with communists in Gallo-Germania," said League member Taifa Xabiib Warsame in an interview with Azraqi Broadcasting Corporation.

He was joined by Islamofuturist Daahir Iimaan Ibraahin who described Communism as a "secular religion" and "fundamentally un-Azraqi".

ABC has since learnt they have both been arrested by the Imperial Gendarmerie for disrespecting the Ivory Throne. The Gendarmerie, DYL and Future Party all confirmed the arrests.

Normally elected assembly members are protected by parliamentary immunity but with the Imperial Parliament suspended, the legal protection has been withdrawn.

In the Holy Month of the Mohammedan Faith, charity is much encouraged under the doctrine of zakat. Given the state of affairs for so many in the Protectorate, this Office informs the people and government of Azraq of the option to make humanitarian donations to the West Occitan people. We are more than willing to accept zakat donations.

The famous sham Empire of the so called Ivory Throne yet again shows us the failure of its foreign policy. To approach the rabid white dogs of Gallia is a sign of the end times coming. Furthermore, His Imperial Majesty has stated at his audience today that he wants the Azraqi Emperor to pursue a policy of consistency and monarchism, and advised the Emperor to look to nations such as Sikandara and Justosia in understanding what true statecraft entailed.

Emperor dissolves Parliament and calls fresh elections

Contentious decision likely to be challenged in the Supreme Court by the deposed left-wing coalition

His Imperial Majesty Boqor Tiirka Illah has moved to dissolve parliament and ordering new elections, as a new settlement is agreed in Loago.

The Emperor promised to restore democratic governance after peace was achieved in Azraq's southern neighbour. With the summit in Jugol seeing eastern Himyari nations agree a new 'Loago of communities', pressure was growing on the Ivory Throne to set out a timetable to the end of absolute rule. Every major political party except for the once ruling Party of Principles eventually called for a clear map to a general election, while the Imperial Convention, which represents the seven ruling families, recently summoned His Imperial Majesty to explain his plans.

"While most sensible Azraqi politicians saw the need for imperial intervention given the domestic political deadlock and global instability, they also saw the danger of prolonged absolute rule," says one parliamentarian.

The Emperor has set a period of four weeks of campaigning, with voting to take place at the end of June.

Parliament had been suspended until today. Dissolution, which is necessary for elections, is a separate legal act and will likely be challenged by the three parties that made up the last government: the Justice Party, Movement for Poor and Dispossessed and Shamo People's Liberation Front.

The coalition unsuccessfully tried to block the suspension of parliament in the Supreme Court but experts say they may have a stronger case to stop dissolution. "There was dysfunction but was there enough to justify to dissolving parliament?" Asks one constitutional lawyer.

Shamo protests continue throughout night

Demonstrations turn violent as supporters of deposed left-wing government grow angrier

Imperial Gendarmes and local police spent the early morning battling armed rioters in cities across Azraq, as supporters of the Shamo-dominated coalition government dissolved by the Emperor continue their campaign of "civil disobedience".

Dhihaa, capital of the Shamoiya region, saw the worst clashes, with over 112 injured, including many civilians. Shamo-majority neighbourhoods in traditionally Dawamalian cities also saw rioting, as did Zigwa and other Nethian-majority settlements, where the Movement for the Poor and Dispossessed, a coalition partner of the once-ruling Shamo parties, have most of their support.

Rallies have been common since His Imperial Majesty Boqor Tiirka Illah dissolved parliament and called fresh elections. The Shamo People's Liberation Front, MPD and Justice Party, seen as a moderate Shamo nationalist party, all challenged the dissolution in the Supreme Court but narrowly failed. Since then they have organised marches across the country, and are openly considering boycotting the elections to undermine their legitimacy.

Law enforcement say the protests have escalated in violence, despite political leaders appealling for peace and calm. "Imperial gendarmes and police officers have been increasingly targeted, with many injured," said an interior ministry spokesman.

The growing anger among Shamo voters has alarmed the Dawamali establishment, with the Imperial Convention, which represents the ruling families, having already summoned the Emperor to explain the prolonged suspension of parliament.

Now foreign press reports suggest Prince Dalmar of the Haradhera dynasty is plotting go move against Emperor Tiirka Illah. The young royal, who is looking to marry Countess MacLeod of Gunnland, wants to cut the reigning monarch's term short, with the Haradheras due to ascend to the Ivory Throne next.

Azraq operates a unique rotational monarchy, with the seven Dawamali dynasties that formed the League of the Fertile Crescent, the predecessor to the First Azraqi Empire, sharing the title of Emperor. If deposed
, Emperor Tiirka Illah would be the first to removed in the history of the Second Azraqi Empire.

Current polling points to an uncertain outcome for the election, with a coalition most likely needed. Experts say Shamo and Kollamese turnout will be deciding factor. "If the Shamo parties do boycott, we have a clear path back to power," claims one Party of Principles candidate.

The SPLF is close to calling a boycott say insiders but the Justice Party and MPD, which both count more non-Shamo lower borns as voters, are more cautious.

However everyone is keen to avoid the bloody Shamo insurgency of the 1970s that ended the Islamofuturist regime but also left simmering ethnic tensions. "With the rest of the world on fire noone wants to ignite s burning bush here," says a Shamo politician.

Islamists demand Prince Dalmar blocked from Ivory Throne

The marriage of Ina Boqor Dalmar of Haradhera to the Gunnish Countess MacLeod has sparked controversy in Azraq and Gunnland, with religious authorities in both countries demanding the royals be barred from ascending their respective thrones.

In response to the wedding, the city of Haradhera witnessed its first major protests since the fall of the Islamofuturist regime at the end of the 1970s. Nationwide, Friday nighttime saw the largest demonstrations, as people poured out into the street after evening prayers, with religious preachers leading the charge against Prince Dalmar's recent marriage.

Politically, the protesters have been backed up by the Ansar al-Imam (Helpers of the Imam), who point to the Constitution that requires the reigning Emperor to be a Hajari Islam. "The Boqor must recognise the Oneness of God, the betrayal by Fatima and Ali and the legitimacy of Maria and Ibrahim," declared Ansari leader Axmed Yusuf Qaasim to crowds in the imperial capital Jugol.

Having wed in a private ceremony, there are concerns in Hajari circles that Prince Dalmar will convert to Catholicism to ensure his future children will be able to inherit his new titles: Earl of Arundel, Duke of Lower Marpesia and Emir of Mafewa, or Prince of Port Stanley as he will be styled in Engellesh.

Similarly, in Gunnland there is disquiet over possibility that Countess MacLeod may become a 'Hagarite Mohammedan'. The northern kingdom is in the process of recreating a northern Tiburan Empire with neighbouring countries Burgundy and Elben, and imperialist politicians fear Muslim and Azraqi influence at the highest levels. "They don't want a Nethian Muslim at the reins," seethes an ally of Prince Dalmar.

Yet many Azraqi politicians, Dawamalian nationalists in particular, don't want a white Christian woman close to the Ivory Throne either. Both the Dawamali Youth League and Party of the Future, joined by representatives from the Party of Principles, have openly called for Prince Dalmar to be rejected by the Imperial Convention, which represents Azraq's ruling families.

Others see opportunity to grow Azraq's influence. Former Principlist Prime Minister Mohammed Yusuf Kahyre argues if Prince Dalmar sits on the Ivory Throne "we'd have a voice in northern Gallo-Germania and greater say in Port Stanley". He points to "decline" in geopolitical affairs under the last government, with Natalia playing the leading role in both the Cabaon and Loago crises.

The next step will be to see whether Prince Dalmar will hold a Muslim wedding in Azraq, as reported by the Gunnish press. So far the Scion of the Haradhera dynasty has remained silence but Jugol is abuzz with rumours of an extravagant public ceremony, as part of a continuing power play against the current Emperor Tiirka Illah, who is under pressure for his perceived mishandling of domestic politics.

The Haradheras are next in line for the Ivory Throne under Azraq's unique rotational monarchy, and if Boqor Tiirka Illah is removed by the Imperial Convention, as rivals are reportedly pushing for, their time will come quicker.

A Muslim marriage would shore up support for Prince Dalmar at home but cause further problems in Gunnland. Already the Prince received a frosty reception at an international baseball game, with Countess MacLeod's ex-husband present.

Within Haradhera, some whisper the controversy may have already cost Prince Dalmar the Ivory Throne. "The family want a quiet life, not to be in a spotlight," says a source close to the Haradheras.

Himyari youths dream of a black Tiburan Emperor

Social media is awash with memes, posts and hashtags calling for Prince Dalmar of Haradhera to be elected the new Holy Tiburan Emperor, as noble and religious leaders from Burgundy, Elben and Gunnland gather in the Burgundian capital Chagny to appoint a new ruler.

This online movement is led by enthusiastic Himyari teen-agers eager for a prominent black-skinned global statesman, despite experts agreeing the Azraqi prince has little chance of being elected.

Exclusive analysis by Cussian data firm Welmonton Analytica for Gacanta finds Azraq, Natalia and Port Stanley to be hotbeds of support for
Ina Boqor Dalmar of Haradhera, who will help elect a new Tiburan Emperor as well as being a potential candidate.

Areas in Gallo-Germania and Westernesse that have seen high Himyari immigration also have seen outpouring of support online, with the Redbone communities of Beautancus in particular being very vocal in favour of a Dawamalian as the new Holy Tiburan Emperor.

Since marrying Countess Mary MacLeod of Gunnland, which made the Ina Boqor eligible for the Tiburan imperial throne, Prince Dalmar has been the subject of intense media scrutiny, with many Nethian commentators condemning the "racist" tone of some coverage, especially in the Gunnish press. To Prince
Dalmar's legion of e-fans, the Haradhera noble being appointed Emperor would be even more potent in its symbolism as a result.

"A Black Emperor over a White Empire would be an historic and powerful inversion of history," claimed influential blogger @EbonyContinent on Twatter.

Other statements were less profound. "#NoMastersNoSlaves #WeSTILLKangz," twatted user @siq_niqqa.

Principlists promise to loosen public purse strings

Splurge of spending pledges see Azraq's once dominant party target poorer voters

The Party of Principles has vowed to spend more on health, education and welfare in an abandonment of its traditional fiscal conservatism, as the party eyes a return to power after nearly a year in opposition.

Principlist leader Cabdulmajiid Ismaacill Taifa made the vow in the Shamo capital of Dhihaa, which has been rocked by weeks of violent protest after His Imperial Majesty Boqor Tiirka Illah suspended then dissolved parliament, ending the left-wing coalition government that had been dominated by Shamo nationalists.

"We recognise the last election result was the result of an Azraq that is too unequal, unjust and uncaring," the Principlist chief declared, before promising billions more for schools, hospitals and benefits.

The Principlists had previously been critical of the last administration's plans to invest heavily in education, healthcare and welfare, suggesting infrastructure and defence should be higher priorities and warning big spending without higher taxes would jeopardise the Empire's financial position.

The Party of Principles have long been hawkish on the national debt and budget deficit, blaming the collapse of the first Azraqi Empire on reckless spending and indebtedness to white Western powers.

However the speech by Cabdulmajiid Ismaacill Taifa hints at a change in attitude and is a sign that the party is learning from its shock defeat to the Justice Party, Movement for Poor and Dispossessed and Shamo People's Liberation Front last year. The Principlists
have already promised to increase military spending and invest in new and existing infrastructure.

With polls pointing towards a hung parliament or minority government led either by the Principlists or the Justice Party and their allies, pundits suggest the pledges by Aw Cabdulmajiid are an attempt to win back the poorer Dawamalians who had backed the Justice Party et al last time round. "This is a big play for the votes of lower born Azraqis," declares one Jugol insider.

NEWSFLASH: Ughaz of Hodon rules out early end for Emperor Tiirka Illah

The Ughaz of Hodon, widely regarded as the second most powerful noble in Azraq after the Ughaz of Gabood, who is the current reigning Emperor, has categorically denied the Imperial Convention is looking to remove Boqor Tiirka Illah from the Ivory Throne.

The Emperor had been summoned for an unprecedented second time to the Imperial Convention, which represents Azraq's ruling families, to explain the visit of the President of the Socialist World Republic Donna Trumm. The female socialist head of state made international headlines after speaking for nearly an hour about curry at a joint press conference and only loosely referring to progress on trans-Implarian issues.

However the Ughaz of Hodon denied the Convention was looking to depose Emperor Tiirka Illah, despite having previously summoned him over his handling of domestic politics, with the suspension then dissolution of parliament proving deeply unpopular with Azraq's large Shamo community.

"Removing a sitting Emperor from the Ivory Throne would set a dangerous precedent and undermine the Empire's unique form of rotational monarchy," the Ughaz of Hodon Aleeki Gadiid Looyan in an interview with ABC.

"As guardians of the Empire's future we have the right to ask legitimate questions about a reigning Boqor's policies but equally we must respect their decisions," he continued.

When asked about the suitability of Ina Boqor Dalmar of Haradhera, widely tipped to be next in line for the Ivory Throne and who recently married Gunnish noblewoman Countess Mary MacLeod, making him an elector in the reformed northern Holy Tiburan Empire, the Ughaz declined to answer.

Azraqis head to polls after contentious campaign

Millions of Azraqis will cast their votes today after a month of campaigning after His Imperial Majesty Tiirka Illah suspended then dissolved parliament.

The Justice Party, which led a historic coalition government with the Movement for the Poor and Dispossessed and Shamo People's Liberation Front, will be keen to form the next administration, while the Party of Principles, who have been dominant since the restoration of democracy in 1981, will be looking to return to power once more.

The Justice-led coalition fell apart after the SPLF withdrew its support, forcing Prime Minister Hike Qiltu to turn to the All Islands Kollamese National Union, who also then later withdrew their support. This domestic instability, combined with rising geopolitical tensions, forced the Emperor to suspend and dissolve parliament, leading to today's elections.

Polls predict a hung parliament, minority government or another coalition, led by either the Justice Party or Principlists. Experts say turnout will be the key deciding factor.

The month-long election campaign had been married by violence, especially in Shamo-majority areas, with dozens of Imperial Gendarmes injured.

The Justice Party and their allies also tried to challenge the legitimacy of the elections in the Supreme Court but ultimately failed.

The results be announced in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

NEWSFLASH: Principlists to lead minority government

The Empire of Azraq will finally get a new government after the Party of Principlists vowed to form a minority administration after failing to agree a coalition after over a month of negotiations.

Principlist leader Cabdulmajiid Ismaacill Taifa
will be formally appointed as Garad-Wasiir next week and will name his Council of Advisers then too.

The Party of Principles emerged the largest faction in the Imperial Parliament after last month's election, securing 548 seats out 1,200 - 53 short needed for a majority in the House of Two Continents.

As Prime Minister, Cabdulmajiid Ismaacill Taifa has vowed to strike deals with other parties on specific issues in order to get his legislative agenda through. However the Shamo and left-wing parties have ruled out working with the Principlists, claiming the election result was illegitimate.

NEWSFLASH: Emperor moves to ensure 'national stability'
His Imperial Majesty Boqor Tiirka Illah has vowed to end the months of political instability and uncertainty in a late night television address, in which he confirmed dozens of politicians with suspected links to banned terrorist organisations had been arrested and the military had been deployed to avoid civil disturbances.
The Emperor rejected rumours he was looking to create an absolute monarchy, insisting he would respect Azraq's parliamentary democracy.
"My aim is not to deny ordinary people of their rights but to respect and strengthen those rights in the face of a political class that has failed in its basic duty of delivering good governance," he declared.
The Emperor confirmed he was still mediating behind-the-scenes cross-party talks and that a compromise would be announced "soon" and said recent actions by the Imperial Gendarmerie were to guarantee "public safety and security".
Azraq has been without a functioning democratic government for over a year despite holding three general elections in just over 12 months, all resulting in different outcomes, none decisive enough to deliver a stable majority government.
The Emperor said as a result of the instability living standards had suffered along with Azraq's economy and international standing.
"Our democracy cannot be working if we are left looking weak and foolish," he warned.
