State Premiers come to Camp Hill for Federal Summit

The Federal Summit, taking place every year in the first week of May is in full swing, with all the State Premiers visiting the Capital District to meet with the State President, the right honourable Liam Savage, and the Chief Minister, the right honourable Brad Ross, and the rest of the cabinet. The summits have been organised on a yearly basis since 1908, when the Acts of the Union were signed and the Union of Natal came to be in its current, modern form, and act as a way to keep up the cooperation between the federal and state governments, so that there will be no legalistic or budgetary blockages in their developments and organisation and set up of new projects. Between 1970 and 1980, at the height of the Natalian Bush War, the Loda Chiefdom boycotted the Federal Summit as a response to what they saw as a lack of support from the central government in fighting the Rhinos, leaving only the Impi units in its defence, as much of the Union Defence Force was mobilised in the other states.

This year's Federal Summit is centred on the need to modernise and expand the nation's infrastructure, as many of the Premiers of the inland states are accusing the government in the past decades of investing in an unbalanced manner, centring much of the development on the coastal areas of Lower Natal, Upper Natal, Parow and to a lesser extent the Rozvi. Premier Dumile Gola of the Mbunda State has called for the development of motorways that connect the eastern fringes of the nation with the coast in a bid to aid the transportation and exchange of goods within the country and provide avenues for economic growth in the inland communities too.

The Summit also offers a premiere, as it brings to the table of discussion not only the development of the States, but for the first time, also campaigns to tackle corruption within the state apparatus, be it the central one based in Camp Hill, or the regional ones. This comes as part of the greater Anti-Corruption Campaign called by the Hippos, which have brought them considerable support from the electorate in the past voting rounds. To this end, Chief Minister Brad Ross has created the Federal Anti-Corruption Service, which will be tied with the Court of Cassation and Justice of Camp Hill and the Harton Tribunal and will concentrate in prosecuting acts of corruption within the government and administration.

"As always, the Union stands together and the Federal Summit is always the best image to show that the administrators of the nation are cooperating and working together for its betterment and for its development. There have been controversies and petty rivalries in the past, but we are past them and now are working together to see this nation shine again. The development of infrastructure will be put in the forefront in the next development cycle and we will also expand the anti-corruption campaign to the far fringes of the nation, so that the people can see that state clerks are there to serve and do their duty, not act as local satraps," stated Chief Minister Brad Ross.

The final report for Federal Summit has been fully published and it increased the faith the people and investors have in the government as the State governments stand in complete accord behind the policies of the Federal Government and will offer their support in creating the regional branches of the National Anti-Corruption Service, with many seeing this as a huge success for the Savage-Ross governing duo and for the Hippos in general. The NACS will provide a specialised department which will prosecute issues and instances of corruption within the nation, ranging from petty corruption, such as bribes asked by clerks to to grand corruption, such as influence trafficking. The promise of the development of the M8 motorway, which will link the cities of Balaka, Chama and Port Salima with the coast has made the governments of the Mbunda State and the Loda Chiefdom to fully support the federal government's campaign.

The crisis in Pannonia gets out of hand, with two proclaimed separatist republics and now a city that fully proclaimed its own allegiance to the Republic of Remion. The government of Natal has not fully issued comments in direct response to the crisis, but has stated that the Union will be always supporting the rule of law and the right of peoples to self determinate, which as of yet it is seen as being in opposition to the government of Zoltan Kovacs and his policies in Kispest. The Western Himyari Airlines, Natal's flag carrier, has announced that it will join the rising number of airlines avoiding the Pannonian skies as the situation is seen as too hot for safe passenger traffic. Furthermore, the WHA, which used Kispest as a hub for their Gallo-Germanian traffic, have announced that they will leave Kispest and will relocate their hub to Trier. The decision comes after the reduction in passenger numbers the hub has seen, mixed with a rise in airport taxes and now the recent crisis. It is believed that the move might cost WHA up to 25 million Natalian Dollars, but it will be beneficial in the long run.

The right honourable Lily-Rose Lewis, Minister of Social Affairs, has visited the Abbey immigration centre and has called out the bad conditions many refugees and immigrants have to wait and live for months on end until the Natalian authorities fully process them and offers them residency permits. The minister also noticed that many of the immigrants and refugees come Al-Margab, Elbaron and Hajr, but the majority come from the Noks Free State. Known for her acidic statements and her efforts as a social warrior, Lily-Rose Lewis used this to call out again for the end of the mandates and colonialism in Himyar and for the emancipation of the nation-states in their aftermath.
June Blackburn: Those was the morning news. You are listening to the General Overseas Service of the NBC, this is June's Rising, with your host, June Blackburn. Lekker lekker morning in Harton, with about 17 degrees, and showers expected in the afternoon. In Camp Hill and Parow, and across the Wine Country we can already see the cloud covering the skies, but in the north, clear skies are expected for the next two days. I will leave you with a music pause, to get you past the hour and I will see you in just a few minutes.

As elections approach, both the Hippos and Hyenas expect victory

  • Tight race in this years election doesn't give a clear image on victor
  • The Anti-Corruption Campaign is the Hippos' trump card
  • Hyenas push for social justice and inequality issues
This year's general elections, both for the position of State President but also for the Parliament, show that the race between the Hippos and the Hyenas will be tighter than ever, as both parties push forward what is seen as the nucleus of their policies in the hopes of gaining enough support to win both the executive and the legislative.
The Hippos, led by the Liam Savage and Brad Ross duo, is pushing its centrist agenda in economics, offering state incentives towards the campaign to diversify the economy, while also allowing many corporations to function freely and slowly opening up the economy towards free trade. The recent Federal Summit has been seen by them as a victory as they can push for their Anti-Corruption Campaign in all the states of the Union. Some critics have seen this campaign as a populist move which tries to paint all the non-Hippo politicians as corrupt as a way to offer the Progressive Federal Party (Hippos) more support from the people which feel they have been wronged by corruption or that the state doesn't run as its maximum potential efficiency.
On the other side, the Hyenas are headed by Percy Emmet Kachipande and Yonela Ashleigh Dalasile, both of them experienced politicians which have made themselves known during the time they have both headed the Loda Chiefdom's administration and have moved 5 years ago into Federal Politics. They have pushed again the Mzuzu Declaration into the forefront of the party politics of the Himyari National Congress (Hyenas). The Declaration, signed 3 years ago by the ex-Chairman of the party, Luke Mtoto, represents a call to the democratic socialist roots of the Hyenas, calling for a new way of doing politics where human rights, social justice and solidarity prevails.
The Mzuzu Declaration has been seen successful as since its proclamation, in the states governed by the Hyenas, such as the Rozvi Kingdom, the Mbunda State, the Loda Chiefdom and the New Republic, the number of collective farms designed after the Rozvian Homesteads have increased, bringing a rise of the active workforce in the states, especially in agriculture, with a slight reduction in inequality being observed. The education department too has been seen as successful as the hot meal program in the school aids the parents too in lightening the pressure on their budgets and for some pushing them to keep the children in school.
Even so, social policies of the Hippos have been seen as efficient too, probably the greatest campaigns to improve the quality of life in the world being done by the Hippo government of Lower Natal and the Harton City Corporation, as it managed to systematize and clear off the shanty towns in the townships of Pearl and Abbey, effectively rebuilding the two settlements acting as suburbs of the Harton metropolis, offering their citizens decent housing, utilities and with an increased police presence, safety.
The polls are showing that for the race of the presidency, Dalasile is slightly in front of Savage, with about 50.7% of the support, while the latter sitting at 49.3%. For the legislative election, it is estimated that the Hyenas might have a slight advantage in the lower house seats, but the Hippos might win the states, should the Engaruka Paramountcy keep a Hippo representation and the State of Key turn from Hyena to Hippo.
Even so, the campaign goes on at full steam, both parties knowing that with such a close race, every opportunity must be used and no mistakes must be done. All party leaders are as of yet ignoring the polls showing a clear victor, as they know they can't be trusted in such a case. The Hippos are supported by the Independent Group (Zebras), while the Hyenas by the Socialist Party (Jackals) and the Mwari Union (Giraffes). The Communist Party of Western Himyar (Ferrets) have called for the boycott of the election.
OTHER NEWS
ENTERTAINMENT: Cedarwood prepares for the most glamorous ceremony in the world as it prepares for the awarding of the Golden Lion Awards, celebrating the best movies, actors and directors in Natal and the world. Eva Black, the 4th wife of the Rozvian king is seen as a favourite to win the award for the best actress, for her role in the NATFLICK distributed movie "Queen of the Savannah".
PANNONIA: Tensions are ready to errupt in an all out war in Pannonia after the brazen Kovacs government starts to wage a war against its own people, using Tarusan mercenaries. Kispest has the support of the Tsardom of Tarusa and the Pelasgian Union, while a growing coalition is forming in support of the Zarans and the Pannonian Franks, made out of Natal, Remion, the Federation of Westernesse and Josepania.

Official results are in: Hyenas manage a historical double win
  • Yonela Ashleigh Dalasile defeats Liam Savage for the presidential race
  • Percy Emmet Kachipande to become Chief Minister after defeating Bradley Ross
  • National Assembly under Hyena majority. Draw in the National Council
The Federal Electoral Bureau has published the final results after counting the votes in the general election in the Union that has taken place last Sunday. With ballots being cast in three different ways, the classical voting section, by mail and electronically through the e-gov Inkundla system, more than 27 million ballots had to be counted, making this year's election one of Natal's most important, with a record breaking turnout of over 85% percent.
The main electoral battle was fought for the office of State President, the most powerful position in the nation, between the head of the Himyari National Congress, Yonela Ashley Dalasile, nicknamed by the hostile press as the Hyena Matriarch, and by the chairman of the Federal Progressive Party, Liam Savage, known as the Old Hippo. While the polls have shown very close results, in the final tally, Dalasile managed to win 51.2% of the valid votes, while Savage took 48.8%. In the numbers were bigger for the Hyenas in the Rozvi Kingdom, the Loda Chiefdom, the Engaruka Paramountcy and, very important, in the Greater Harton Metropolitan Area, where more than a third of the nation's population lives. YAD is the 3rd woman to become state president of Natal after Adrianne Stone and Demetria Unathi Vavi. She is the first to come from the Hyena party, the previous ones being Hippos.
In the legislative elections, the party loyalty lines have managed to keep themselves up with few exceptions. The Green Wall around the borders of the Rozvi Kingdom is continuing to collapse, as support for the Hyenas begins to trickle from the Kingdom into the adjacent countries in the Upper Natal Republic, the New Republic and the Mbunda State. Much of the rural areas on the coast, in the Upper and Lower Natal Republics, and most of the Langfield Free State have remained green strongholds, voting for the Hippos, while the Rozvi, Loda, Engaruka and Key regions have kept their traditional Hyena-blue affiliations. A surprise is the how besides Harton, which is known as a centre-left and progressive stronghold, there have also been suburbs in and around Blackmere and Parow, the 2nd and 3rd largest urban agglomerations in the nation, which have switched from the Hippos to the Hyenas.
With this, the Hyenas have managed to gain a majority in the National Assembly, gaining 440 out of the 850 seats, with the Hippos winning the remaining 410. On the other side, in the National Council, where each state brings 20 representatives, offering an equal voice to each region, a draw has been declared, each party managing to secure 100 seats.
"We are very happy with this victory and thank the people of Natal for their support and votes. We will do our best to not let them down and we will return the national politics back to the days where the common man was the centre piece of policies. The Hyenas have adhered a few years ago to the Mzuzu Declaration, where we have put forward human rights, human dignity and social justice, and the time has come again, to see all those goals be implemented in our country," stated the right honourable Yonela Ashleigh Dalasile, president-elect of Natal.
OTHER NEWS
ENTERTAINMENT: The Golden Lion Awards have been granted in a glamorous ceremony at the Robert Stone Theatre in Cedarwood, Harton. Celebrating the best in the Natalian film industry, the Golden Lions are awarded yearly. For his role in The Legacy's Dreamer, Jon Holt has won the Golden Lion for the best actor in a lead role. The movie also won the Golden Lions for best direction, best soundtrack, best script and the best actors in supporting roles. Eva Black, for her role in The Queen of the Savannah has managed to win the Golden Lion for the best actress in a lead role.
TRANSPORTATION: The Ministry of Transport has announced that starting next Monday, operations will commence under a normal schedule on the Parow-Harton-Blackmere mainline, with Shosholoza Meyl serviced high speed trains managing to travel the 1100 kilometre long trip in only 6 hours, compared to the pre-refurbishment times, which were topping 16 to 18 hours.

Providing daily news in South Natal since 1835 and Republic wide since 1908- 1 Dollar - 22nd of August 2021
Heavy rains end drought period and extinguish wildfires
  • Heavy rains in Harton County and the Silver Valley
  • Drought that started in March officially ends, as reservoirs are filled again
  • Wildfires in South Natal extinguished by heavy downpour
The long drought that has affected important swaths of south and central Natal, especially along the east coast and the south west has ended as heavy downpour has caused floods in Harton County and the Silver Valley. Nearly 2 inches of rain water have fallen per square metre in certain areas, with violent showers reported in certain areas. The rains have extinguished wildfires along the Eastern Coast, which only two weeks ago were threatening the suburbs of San Juan.

Natalian authorities, namely the Fire Service, Ambulance and even the Water administration have been mobilised in case of any problems arising with the heavy downpours, but as of yet, the damage has been minimal and there have been no reports of human casualties.
Until this week's rains, the Roadrunner government of President Brad Ross have ordered the rationing of water, especially in irrigating lawns and parks by both private citizens and also city and county councils, while it also recommended taking only short showers rather than baths, in an effort to reduce water consumption, especially when the areas of the Glenn and Azure Reservoirs, which supply the Great Harton Area with water have seen no rains since early March. With this week's weather, the government has officially suspended the Water Conservation Act, with everything expected to return to normal, especially as the rainy weather is expected to continue for the next two weeks.
The very long drought has affected much of South Natal and has provided the perfect environment for wildfires, with the Fire Service being continuously mobilised in much of the south east, especially in Cebolla, Taos and Culebra Counties, where the very arid and desert environment brought on hazardous conditions. The worst wildfire erupted on the outskirts of San Juan three weeks ago, when the area was subjected to a particularly violent dry thunderstorm. Firefighters from allover the nation had to be mobilised to ensure that the wave of destruction won't reach the outskirts of Rancho Solano suburb of San Juan. The heavy downpour has finally brought an end to quite a hellish mission for the Natalian firefighters, which were preparing to even evacuate the neighbourhood, but in the end the move proved to be unnecessary.
OTHER NEWS
Plant Milk as popular as Cow Milk: A report of the National Food Administration Service has shown that many Natalians take their vegetarian and vegan lifestyles quite seriously, as consumption of milk from animal sources such as cow, sheep or goats has been on a descending trend, with oat, coconut and almond milk on the rise. The recent report has shown that the consumption of plant milk has reached new heights, as the total quantity of plant milk (oat, rice, coconut and almond) consumed this year in Natal has just reached the same levels of cow milk consumed in the nation. As of yet, milk and dairies of animal products still are more popular than their plant based equivalents, as the previous comparison does not take into consideration the consumption of sheep and goat milk.

Green Roadrunners write history as they appoint first female candidate
  • The Greens are known to be the most radical and progressive faction of the Roadrunner Party
  • Both Roadrunners and Bobcats prepare for the incoming general election
  • Pundits concerned that events in Gallo-Germania might influence Natalian election
The Roadrunner party has finally managed to appoint their main candidate for the presidential election. After nearly a monthlong delay, with three "presidentiables" (potential candidates for the presidential elections), the Roadrunners have decided to appoint Olivia Harper Poole as their main candidate for the presidential election. The decision did not come without drama, as the Social Democrats tried to put pressure on the other factions to put Brad Ross for a 2nd term as president, but in the end, he decided to take a step down and be 2nd running mate, going for the position of Vice President, a position that is currently held by the aging Liam Savage, whom has announced his desire to retire from politics.

While the Bobcat Party uses a typical internal party election that brings together all the factions within it to vote for their main candidate, the Roadrunners have a unique system that has directorial elements, with each faction alternating in appointing the candidates for the presidential election. In the last election, it was the turn of the Internationalist Socialist Roadrunners to appoint a candidate, but after quite a dramatic internal strife, they have caved in to the pressure coming from the Social Democratic Roadrunners and decided to abandon appointing their own candidate, going instead with the Social Democratic duo made out of Brad Ross and Liam Savage. The delay in appointing the candidates comes from the fact that even in this electoral cycle, the Social Democrats tried to impose their own candidates and have the Green appoint one of their own liking, leading to a quite intense internal fight.

All this has shown how strong the Social Democratic wing of the party really is, as it manages to impose its own will upon the others too, but recent events within the microcosm of the party are showing how much the popularity of the factions within the multi-tendency left wing Roadrunner Party, which can be further generalised as representing the left-wing, progressive and social liberal strata of Natal is going through a real shift. When the Roadrunners came first to power in the 1948 elections, which has since been known as the Roadrunner Revolution, as it started a whole shift in the Natalian social and economical system from a laissez faire capitalism towards a social welfare system, they won the election with the ticket of the Internationalist Socialists. That victory was part of a generalised red tide in the western hemisphere, with the Grand Archipelagic Republic of San Jose and the Cayabocani Nation being proclaimed around the same time. Since then, the Roadrunners have slowly shifted away from radical socialism, with the Social Democrats taking over the party in the late 70s and early 80s, dominating it until today. Many see now the appointment of Olivia Harper Poole as a new chapter in Roadrunner history, with the Greens starting to take over. The conflict between the Greens and the Social Democrats have currently been resolved as it has been agreed for Harper Poole and Ross to run together as mates, with the former as president and the latter as vice president.

Both the Roadrunners and the Bobcats are preparing for the general elections, with the latter, currently in opposition hoping to win the legislative and presidential elections with the hopes of distancing Natal from the socialist nations of Cayabocan and San Jose and turn it towards what they call 'active neutrality', a foreign affairs policy where Natal would approach all foreign nations equally irrespective of their political positions, actions on the world stage or human rights policies. The Bobcats are also attacking the Roadrunner administration for encumbering the administration with too much state intervention and regulation, something that they called a hotbed for corruption. Hopeful that they can win this next election, three weeks ago they have elected Ashton Lawson as their presidentiable, who will run together with the politics veteran Malachi Molina, as his veep.

Lawson, currently a Senator for Blackmere-Fortitude Valley, is fairly young, in his early 40s and has been a member of the Foreign Affairs Commission for Gallo-Germania during the Bobcat administration of President George Green, between 2012 and 2014, and has represented Blackmere's Fortitude Valley District as a senator since 1999. His running mate, Malachi Molina is a veteran in Natalian politics, as he has even been interim president for 2 years during the 80s, and then vice president for 3 terms in the 90s and early 2000s. On the other side, the Roadrunners are going with Olivia Harper Poole, who is only 31 years old and should she win, she would be not only the first female president of Natal, but also its youngest. Harper Poole is currently a Senator for Harton's Wakerley District, a position that she has won in the previous elections, back in 2017.

Analysts were pooling the Bobcasts as currently having the lead, but the events in Gallo-Germania might represent a tipping point for the Roadrunners, as the whole violent episode of Pannonia's breakdown might push many Natalians to be against the "active neutrality" policy the Bobcats push for, as many polls have shown that Natalians seen the Tarusan Empire and its absolutistic political system as a threat.

Election Results are in. Roadrunners win 3rd presidential term in a row
  • Olivia Harper Poole is set to become the next President of Natal
  • Bobcats and Roadrunners tied closely in the Senate
  • A third party, only a hundred votes away from crossing the threshold
The National Electoral Bureau has published the final results of the general elections of the Occidental Republic of Natal. The Roadrunner party has managed to win the 3rd Presidential election in a row, with Olivia Harper Poole gaining over 55% of the votes, while Ashton Lawson, the Bobcat candidate has managed to gain only 45%. With this, the Roadrunners manage for the first time in the last half of a century to win three presidential terms in a row and in a national premiere, offer the nation its first female President. This comes probably at the worst time for Olivia Harper Poole, who is also the youngest President to be of Natal, at 33 years of age, as she might have to go through the worst crisis the nations of Europe are menaced with, a global war at a scale not seen since the Great War of the 1920s. Even so, while Natal is a nation whose foreign policy is defined by the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine, it remains neutral to the machinations of the old world.
In the legislative elections for the Senate, the difference is votes has not been as big as in the presidential one, with both the Roadrunners and the Bobcats keeping the same number of seats in the Senate, with six counties flipping, three going green, three going orange. In the end, the Senate is made out of 52% Roadrunners and 48% Bobcats.
It is the first time the Green Roadrunners hold the presidency and thus are to form the government, under Olivia Harper Poole. She will share the burden of governing with Brad Ross, the current President who will move into the position of Vice-President. Experts, analysts and pundits are quite ambivalent on this, as there is a camp that see him acting as a shadow leader, with the Social Democratic Roadrunners still holding the reins of government, while there is another, who states that they believe that there is an agreement between the Greens and the Social Democrats, where Brad Ross is there to offer advice to Olivia Harper Poole using his expertise and experience, but also to soften the political radicalism of the Green Roadrunners.
"We are deeply humbled that the Natalian people have given us their hopes and dreams and are legitimizing us with bringing their aspirations to existence. The Roadrunners have always put the interests of the people before anything, and now, more than ever will keep their promise. We will not send our youth to die meaningless and tortured deaths for the sake of the old world. We will keep them home and safe, where they can enjoy the life they built for themselves and where we can be together, safe, as a people and an extended family. The future is green, Natal, and we will provide you will all the sustainability necessary to end this vicious circle where we destroy nature and humans for greed and hate. Politics and be different and we are here to provide. My request is for you, Natal, rise as the Phoenix that you are, and make the west great again! The Lands of the Sunset have always been free and now the torch is in our hands to keep it so, for the sake of our children and for our children's children!" stated Olivia Harper Poole in a speech she held in front of the Combs House after the publishing of the results.
OTHER NEWS
World prepares for War: Major nations in Gallo-Germania are mobilizing and arming themselves as negotiations have reached a dead end, tensions run high and the alliance game has created a network that will push much of the world into a state of conflict. The risk of destruction of reach the western hemisphere is minimal, states the National Defence Council.

  • Government promises increased international cooperation
  • Enhancement of the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine to commence
The Green Roadrunner government led by Olivia Harper Poole and Brad Ross have been officially sworn in at a ceremony on the Senate floor of Combs House, the capitol of Natal, which functions as the headquarters of the Senate (parliament), government and presidency. Newly elected president, Ms Olivia Harper Poole has stated that the Occidental Republic of Natal will become an ever vigilant presence over the Thaumantic and Implarian Seas, protecting the Westernesse-Occidentia against any form of Imperialism and hostility and will provide for an economic development dominated environment, where the people of not only Natal, but San Jose, Cayabocan and Gran Occidentia will thrive.

The Occidental Republic of Natal has adopted a pragmatic policy towards the events in Gallo-Germania and has stated that it will neither support nor refrain the recognition of whatever nations arise from the ashes of Pannonia, as currently, Natal has not stated anything on the recognition of any of the states born in the aftermath of the fall of Pannonia. Yet, that doesn't mean that the region is a black hole lacking Natalian representation and vice versa, as all of the current states including Eugenia and even Becs Altstadt have functional consulates in both Camp Hill and Harton.

Even so, the republic of Natal is slowly building itself as the protector of the west as it signed on to the Enhancement Program of the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine and has transferred a frigate and two corvettes from the Republican Navy to the Navy of the Great Archipelagic Republic of San Jose, with the latter having the option to buy the ships further down the line. The three ships, namely NRNS Orca, NRNS Westward ho! and NRS Shastina will continue to be manned by Natalian crews but will patrol the territorial waters of the Great Archipelagic Republic of San Jose under a Josefino flag and will be under the command of the Josefino National Defence Council and the General Staff of the Archipelagic Armed Forces.

At the same time, President Olivia Harper Poole has announced what she calls a Foreign Relations avalanche of policy, as she has congratulated the government of Gran-Occidentia for the reforms taken by the Intergralist Regime, which includes, most importantly of all an ideological rebuke of the previous authoritarian elements and a forthcoming improvement of the human right records of the nation. With this, stated Harper Poole, the nation will be eligible to receiving bigger sums of the Aid Development Package prepared by the National Investment Corporation.

"Our doctrine will be based on pragmatism with the rest of the world and close friendship with Occidentia-Westernesse. It is our duty to defend the west against imperialism and to develop it so it can reach its true and full potential. We will develop Natal to become a beacon of social justice and green energy and we will share the wealth in aiding the development of our neighbours and allies, as only together, united we can be strong, sovereign and independent," stated President Olivia Harper Poole.

Government brings forth most ambitious Constitutional reform
  • Green Roadrunners open path towards Post-Delegationism
  • Blue Block Demonstrations take place in major cities
  • Proposed Constitution to change Natal into a directorial confederacy

President Olivia Harper Poole has announced that the Green Roadrunners will be pushing for the Post-Delegationist reform of the constitution of the Occidental Republic of Natal and will be preparing for the first step towards reaching their goals and aspirations, especially now that they have the support of the people and have been legitimized by the results of the recent elections. The Green Roadrunners have militated for the adoption of direct-democracy and Post-Delegationist elements in the governing of Natal since the 1980s, but they have usually taken a second place behind the green politics and social democratic ideals of the greater Roadrunner Party. Now, with the Greens managing to win both the hegemony in the Senate and the position of President, they seem to be eager to push for their political reforms that they ask for more than 4 decades.

The Green Roadrunners have proposed a series of constitutional changes that would reform the Occidental Republic of Natal from a unitary presidential republic to a federal directorial one, enhancing the power of the legislative by creating a new bicameral parliament and giving extended authority to the region administrative institutions.

The new proposed reform stated that the nation should be built upon the following lines:
  • Politically the nation is to be organised as a directorial federal republic, divided in 10 discricts;
  • The Office of President will be replaced with the Council of Administrators, made out of 10 members, each representing a district;
  • The Chairman/woman of the Council replaced the head of state and is a member of the Council of Administrators, as a primus inter pares, for a one year term.
  • The Senate would be replace by a bicameral parliament, made out of the Chamber of the Regions, acting as an upper house, and the Chamber of the People, acting as a lower house.
  • The E-Gov Platform "Democracy" will be launched and act as a people's forum, where citizens can and will vote online, not needing to cast the ballot, can push for citizen initiatives, having bills discussed and voted upon and sign petitions regarding national policies on the government.
  • The elections for the parliament will remain as they are now, set on a 4 year basis, while the elections on the Council of Administrators will take place every 10 years and will replace the Presidential Elections, taking place every 10 years.
  • The name of the nation is to be replaced to the Constitutional State of Natal, to reflect the tradition of Post-Delegationism gradualism that was seen in Touzen too.
At the hearing of the news, a series of Post-Delegatist organistations in Natal such as the Pan-Westernesse Democratic Front and the Occidential Post-Delegationist Union have called for demonstrations in a show of support for the reforms pushed by the Olivia Harper Poole and Green Roadrunner Government. More than 100,000 people have managed to mobilise, with the majority in Harton, Camp Hill, San Juan and Blackmere, marching in blue blocks on the main streets of the cities, influenced by the ideological colour of Post-Delegationism. Those marches also come at the exact moment President Jose Constanza of the Great Archipelagic Republic of San Jose visits Camp Hill to meet with the new government of Natal to discuss the enhancement of the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine and the further alignment of the nations of the Free World and Western Hemisphere.

President Olivia Harper Poole has promised a swift reform of the republic so that it can align to the wishes of the people: "We have managed to push forward a constitutional project that we have worked on for decades. The People of Natal have given us legitimacy to push it forward and we will. In less than a month I invite all Natalian citizens to give their approval to this new constitution, enhancing the democratic process in our nation and cementing the political, economic and civil liberties any Natalian citizen should enjoy. Touzen was the beacon that we should follow, our time has come now to do the same, Natal is to become of the nations of Europe defined by its love of freedom, democracy and peace," stated President Olivia Harper Poole.

June Blackburn: We are back at Midday with June on NaBC Radio. We have an important topic to talk about today, as the Green Roadrunners have announced their intentions to push for a complete change of the constitution of Natal, taking the states of Toyou as a model for direct democracy and directorial republicanism as a gradual approach towards Post-Delegationism. Together with me here is Francine Fukuyama, the famous Touzeni-Natalian sociologist, ready to talk on this subject and we will also receive some calls from listeners too.

Francine Fukuyama: Good day June and thanks for having me here. I know that many people still quote me when they reflect on my analysis of the dissolution of the Anti-State as a potential end of history. I for one have to backtrack as at that point I said it in relation to the end of ideologically inspired states, whose construction emanates from a political ideology rather than an ethnic group or culture. Now, it is cleared than ever that we are again approaching a moment where we see two ideologies clashing, namely the resurgence of Post-Delegationism, this time in the west and the rise of authoritarianism and reactionarism in Gallo-Germania, through the influence of Tarusa, the fall of the Pelasgian Republic and its replacement with the Empire, democratic backtracking in Serbovia and the fall of Pannonia. At the moment I actually said the by now infamous quote, the west felt extremely lacking ideologically speaking, but it is now going through a political renaissance that has probably been triggered by the expansion of the Tarusan sphere of influence in the aftermath of the fall of Pannonia. As of the ideology behind the politics of President Harper Poole we can clearly see its Post-Delegationist elements, with some syndicalist and green influences too. But the constitution she proposed isn't actually as radical as her rhetoric says. It is merely decentralizing the nation, to turn it into a Confederacy. She clearly takes a gradual and step by step approach to it.

June Blackburn: Thank you, Ms Fukuyama. I would like to turn our attention to our callers, so that we can truly check the position the people take on it.

Random caller #1: Hi, my name's Mike. All I want to say is that I have voted for Harper Poole since she became a Senator for Harton and it was exactly what she argues for now that I voted for her.

June Blackburn: You were always a Post-Delegationist, Mike?

Random caller #1: Not really a Post-Delegationist, but I always thought that there was too much power in the hands of too many, be that a president or a Senator who has to represent too many people in a college and thus not managing to actually aid any of them. That is why, now bicameral parliamentarism and a federalisation is the way to go in my eyes.

June Blackburn: Thank you, Mike. We will take another call now.

Random caller #2: Hi June, good day Ms Fukuyama. My name is Alba Pearson and I must say that I am against all this posturing. It feels like the change pushes for a weakening of the state at probably the worst time possible. Tarusa, Serbovia, the HFE are on the move and they fully redraw borders and play chess with the lives of people. We must be strong now, especially when the world is gearing towards a new world war.

June Blackburn: So a Unitary state would make us stronger?

Random caller #2: If the state is unitary and has only the senate as the unicameral parliament, it will be ready to respond quickly to crises. We will need a strong executive leader.

June Blackburn: Thank you Alba.

Francine Fukuyama: *inaudible* So literally the only way to resist the said encroachment on democracy is to become undemocratic? That's not the way forward....

June Blackburn: We will take one more call now.

Random caller #3: Hi, my name is Brandon. I want to say that I really support the ideals of the Green Roadrunners and of President Harper Poole. I come from a rural settlement on the foothills of Mount Shastina, called Tionesta, and we always have grown up with this idea that for the best living environment we can create we must work as a united community for it. Don't get me wrong, there are things that I am not a fan of for the Green Roadrunners, like the legalisation of weed, or gay marriage, but they are now pushing for something that we in NoNat have always asked for, and that is to have more local authority for self-determination and have less of Harton or Camp Hill pushing their fist down our throat so we do whatever the government wants. And if in the end we will get that local government with extended authority, I will be happy, even if that means legalisation of gay marriage or drug consumption, for in the end we are all citizens living and loving the same flag and nation, but after this great reform, we will all finally be equal citizens.

June Blackburn: Thank you, Brandon. We will take a short break now. You are all listening to NaBC Radio's Midday with June. It is time to enjoy some music. After that we will take some more calls and listen to the news.

E-Citizen platform goes online, paving the way to direct democracy
  • President Olivia Harper Poole participates at the launch ceremony
  • INTAF reports state that the platform is safe and secure
  • Voting, petitions and citizen proposals can be done and discussed on the platform
In a public event, the government has organised the launching of the online government platform, which they have called E-Citizen. The E-Citizen platform is designed to popularize the democratic process even more and to make it easy for the whole population to cast their ballot as easily as possible and thus to make the political life in the country as attractive for participation for every citizen as possible.

The E-Citizen platform has been in development for nearly a decade, ordered by the Bobcats first and then the project was took over by the Roadrunners who took it from developmental hell and reinvested in it, as part of their general plan to promote the democratic spirit and interest in the affairs of the nation.

The platform has received the approval of the INTAF, whose reports stated that it is safe and secure to be used by the citizens without fears that voting can be rigged, or that there are chances for foreign agents to steal the information of its users, let alone manage to hack into the citizens' accounts. At the same time, the National Election Bureau has also stated that the system will be ready for use in the next referendum, which will be organised around the Constitutional Reform Question. The system will complement the voting process, making it possible now for citizens to vote either classically, by mail and now through the internet too.

The E-Citizen Platform works in three main layers:
  • The voting process in itself, where citizens can log into their accounts and cast their votes for referendums, local or national elections. Voting is to be open on the voting day and people can change and rescind their vote until midnight.
  • The Citizen Initiatives, which will act as bills, that need to be voted by the Legislative and approved by the President to become laws. Citizen Initiatives will need the support of at least 500,000 citizens to be sent into parliament.
  • The Citizen Petitions, where the people can call for the attention in regards to certain issues. When the Petition reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be debated in the parliament, and when it reaches 500,000 signatures it becomes an initiative.
"We are happy to see that this great step in the modernization of our democracy has been taken. Natalians from allover the country need to have their voices heard and thus in the 21st century, it would be seen as a loss to not make use of all the technology we currently enjoy to bring the citizens closer towards the functions of the state and its mechanics. We hope that as many citizens as possible will login into the system and thus make it easier for them to cast votes and have their voices heard directly, as a first step towards direct democracy and post-delegationism," stated President Olivia Harper Poole.

Referendum results are in. Natal is a Directorial Republic with Post-Delegationist Characteristics
  • The National Election Bureau has announced the final results for the constitutional referendum
  • 82% of the voters have supported the changes proposed by Olivia Harper Poole
  • The Occidential Republic is to be replaced by the Constitutional State
After a day of casting their votes to what has been the most important referendum in the past century in the history of Natal, the people of the nation have decided. With a turnout of 69.69%, and about 82% of the voters supporting the constitutional reforms, the National Election Bureau chairman, Morgan Davies has announced that the results are clear and are approved by the Bureau, hence giving the green light for the nation to enter its next historical phase.

The new constitution of Natal proclaims the nation to be a Federal Directorial Republic with Post-Delegationist Characteristics, from the previous unitary presidential republic and replaces the old Occidental Republic with the new Constitutional State. At the same time, it breaks apart the position of President into a ten person council, which will be named the National Council of Directors. Every year, the chairmanship of the directorate is to be rotated between its members, with Olivia Harper Poole becoming the first President of the Directorate. At the same time, a new administrative level is to be formed between the old counties and the national government, with the country divided into 10 new states.

The parliament will be changed too, with a bicameral National Assembly replacing the old unicameral senate. Every four years, elections will be organised to select the new representatives, with the lower house (The People's Assembly) made out of representatives elected from colleges made out of 50,000 citizens, while the upper house (The Regional Assembly), will be made out of 20 representatives from each state.

Besides the new changes in the parliament, the presidency and the federal structure, the new constitution also enshrines the authority of the E-Citizen system, which is to be recognized as an electoral tool, giving for the first time the citizens the chance to bypass their representatives and voice their opinions directly on the matters of their interest regarding the nation through the petition and the citizen initiative system. At the same time, provisions have been set up to organize referendums for what are to be described by the Supreme Court as "Decisions of National Importance".

"This has been a great victory not only for me, or for the Green Roadrunners, but rather for the whole people of Natal, as it finally cemented the strength of our democratic values and it pushed us forward as a beacon of freedoms, be them political, social or economical. In this day and age where more and more nations are turning their back on democracies, it is important for us to step up unto the light and bring the voice of the people to the upmost echelons of power so it can clearly be heard. Our plan has extremely ambitious and we are ready to continue, provided we continue to receive the support of the people. The first step in the political issue has been sorted, the first steps in the social and economical issues are now following," stated President Olivia Harper Poole at the press conference after hearing the news regarding the voting.

Discussions are to continue as decisions need to be made regarding the level of authority and privilege of the newly created states, with the line needing to be drawn at how much authority the federal and local governments surrender to the regional ones. At the same time, discussions will follow in regards to the autonomy of the states in the matter of healthcare, education and transportation.

OTHER NEWS
WOTO SUPPORTED BY NATAL:
The ratification of the Westernesse-Occidentia Treaty will be delegated to a direct vote by the people through a referendum organised on the E-Citizen platform, as well as the classical ballot voting. As of yet, opinion polls suggest that about 75% of the Natalians support the closer bonding of the nations of Westenesse and the creation of WOTO.

Commission formed to update the state laws in accordance to the new constitution
  • A record of 369 bills are currently queuing on parliament floor to update the state laws
  • The role of those changes is to push for the update of civil laws so as they conform to the new constitution
  • Gay Marriage, Weed Legalization and a liberalization of immigration are to be soon approved
President Olivia Harper Poole has headed the opening meeting of the newly reformed National Assembly, heading the submission of a record of 369 bills which are now queuing on the floor to be voted on so that many of the laws of the Occidental Republic are to be updated and adapted to the new realities of the Constitutional State.

Philosophical Post-Delegationism calls for the complete liberalization in many domains, such as open door immigration, full drug legalization and many others, but the Council of Directors has observed many of such laws to be seen as too radical for the current development of Natal and headed by President Olivia Harper Poole, they will form a commission which will work in updating the laws to conform it with the new constitution and present the set of laws as a single bill, so as to not flood with Assembly with them, while the parliament still has a huge range of bills to be discussed.

In many ways, end result will represent a complete rewriting of the civil code, which will reform many of the ancient laws emanating from the days of the old Engell Central Westernesse Company, which has sponsored the colonization of Natal. It is fully expected that the new collection of laws will include the redefining of marriage to be seen as a union between two spouses, rather than a man and woman, effectively legalizing same sex marriage. It will also include a liberalization of the drug laws, with the legalization of cannabis to be seen as expected, but as of yet still a hard no towards hard drugs and opioids especially. It is also expected for the abortion laws to be relaxed, with on request operations being done within a 90 day limit. Currently, Natalian law limited abortion only in case of rape and risk to health (both of the fetus and the mother). The doctors will also be given the right to be conscientious objectors and thus can choose to not do the surgery. Another change will come in the form of immigration to Natal. The new bills support the liberalisation of immigration, which currently amounts to an abysmal 100,000 new immigrants over a 5 year period. The new bill is to raise this quota to 150,000 per year, with the promise that after a 10 year period, should it be declared a success, it would be reformed again towards open doors immigration.

"We have voted to update and reform our constitution to cement our freedoms and liberties through the adoption of Post-Delegationist characteristics. But the real work is only now starting. Greater PDism is achieved through the constitutional change and lesser PDism through the small laws that govern our daily lives. It is now important to work on those laws, to make the new Natal palpable for all. We will form a 50 person commission to work out the national laws and reform them so they will follow the new constitution. This Legal Update bill will be then voted through the National Assembly and then after it receives the green light from the Supreme Court, it will become a reality for us all, transforming Natal into the democratic beacon of freedom that we always wanted to see," stated President Olivia Harper Poole.

Besides the three aforementioned nations, three more are set to be invited into it: the Federation of Westernesse, the Cayabocani Nation and the Republic of Gran Occidentia.

President Harper Poole signs the Military Reform Bill
  • Republic Armed Forces reformed into the Constitutional Armed Forces
  • National Guard and Citizen Guard units formed
  • Policy of Forward Defense enhanced by Policy of Total Defense
President Olivia Harper Poole has signed the Military Reform Bill, which has found bipartisan support within the National Assembly, being voted on by about 70% of the representatives. The bill is part of the greater collection of bills designed to harmonize the national laws with the new constitution of the Constitutional State of Natal, where the civil and penal codes are still to be updated and more than 400 changes need to be agreed upon.

Today, President Harper Poole has signed the Military Reform Bill in the morning at Combs House, and in the afternoon she was present at Fort Bashville, in the outskirts of Harton, where she was a part of the ceremony of the lowering of the obsolete flag of the Republican Army and the rising of the new blue flag of the Constitutional Army. The Blue Army has become an unofficial

At the ceremony, where the armed forces have been officially renamed into the Constitutional Armed Forces, President Harper Poole has also announced the formation of the National and Citizen Guards, to function as paramilitaries doubling on the authority of the military to defend the nation. The National Guard will be formed out of policemen, but will have a military style training and will function similarly to the Gendarmes in Gallo-Germanian nations. The authority of command of the National Guard will be devolved to the authorities of the States forming the Constitutional State of Natal. The Citizen Guard will be formed out of new volunteers, who will participate in military and shooting exercises every second week, while living a normal civilian life. The Citizen Guard is organised to function as a stand behind army in case of the invasion and occupation of the nation by hostile armies.

The Military Reform Bill also changes the policy of the armed forces, keeping the old Forward Defense polity, but enhancing it with the Total Defense one, which calls for the creation of stand behind cells of partisans and minutemen which rise up in occupied territories with the goal to liberate the land, nation and people.

"I am proud to be here at Fort Bashville, the symbolic center where the late Republican Army was formed and where now, the Constitutional Army has just been born. The blue flag of freedom will forever fly over the land where Westernesse meets Occidentia and Natal and the Constitutional State and will represent the liberty we enjoy, the privileges we have over more authoritarian countries and the duty we have for the next generations to keep the beacon of democracy alight so they can grow up in a sane environment," stated President Olivia Harper Poole.

National Assembly votes on the Collective Bill

The National Assembly has come together in an extraordinary meeting to vote on the Collective Bill which brings over 300 changes to the penal and civil codes of the nation, with the goal of harmonizing the national legislation with the new, Post-Delegationist inspired Constitution of the new Natalian State.

The new Collective Bill represents a series of updates on the penal and civil code of the country, with changes such as the abolition of capital punishment, the legalization of same-sex marriage, and of cannabis production, distribution and consumption, of abortion and an easing of the immigration process into Natal.

"Our duty is to build the society as we see fit for our aspirations and ideological goals. For that, Natal has to transform itself by shedding the old elements out of its civil and penal codes and build itself up to the aspirations of the newer generations, who worked and wished for the developing of our democracy with Post-Delegationist Characteristics. This defines our goal to develop freedom, and that is, after a Scanian model, the development of a system where negative freedoms abound, allowing our citizens to truly be free, without stepping on the toes of their compatriots," stated President Olivia Harper Poole as she signed the Collective Bill.

The Collective Bill is being seen as the last leg of the Post-Delegationist reform in the laws regarding the functioning of the nation as it brought many ammendments to existing laws, harmonising them so they can function within the framework of the new constitution. There has been some criticism too, especially in regards to the abortion and drug elements of the collective bill, with more radical PDists calling for bigger liberalisation. The response of the government commission was in regards to drugs that harder drugs than cannabis will never be legalised as they are seen as an economic, not only health issue too, and the authorities wish to avoid a drug epidemic. As for the abortion, the limit of 12 weeks on request has been deemed the best in regards to the health of the woman.

ANTI-TRUST LAWS TO AFFECT RAILWAY MONOPOLY:
The government has decided to break apart the government owned TransNet and privatise it in a series of companies which will better serve the sub-states of the nation, with the state ensuring the functional infrastructure and a series of intercity services on the trunk lines. The TransNet Company will be disbanded only its subsidiary, TransNet Infrastructure remaining, while TransNet Freight, cargo services of the company being terminated. The government has already managed to sold 3 of the new franchises to Natalian investors, with the new companies being Harton & Coast Railway, serving the states of Harton and Whitting, Blackmere & Granite Railway, serving the states of Blackmere, Eastern and Western Grans and the Natal River Railway, which will serve the states of Upper and Lower Natal and of the Mountain State. As of yet, two more franchises need to be set up through the finding of investors, one in the State of Tiburia and another in the Western Isle State. Natrack will continue to function through a very limited form, offering only long range intercity services. The new status of the railways also opens up the path for foreign investors and companies to charter private trains and set up operations for freight and cargo transportation.

President Olivia Harper Poole calls for a detente with the Pressburg Pact: In a speech in front of the joint houses of the National Assembly, President Olivia Harper Poole has called out the destructive path on which the nations of Europe are walking on and has called for a detente with the nations of the Pressburg Pact, namely the Empire of Tarusa and the Federal State of Serbovia. Relations between those nations and the west have deteriorated after the Pannonian Crisis and the Thrakian episode, but now, with militarisation as the main development policy of many nations and the rise of tensions especially between Eiffelland and Tarusa, President Harper Poole has called for an ease and for a detente between WOTO and the Pressburg Pact. "It is clear that our nations have differing outlooks on political life, and it is easy to understand that those outlooks can lead to rivalry, tensions and even war, but the duty of each government is first and foremost to its people and to provide for safety and security, and going to war is a failure of diplomacy and in providing the said security. That is why, I invite the Empire of Tarusa and its allies to join us in a detente to ease tensions between WOTO and Pressburg," she stated.

WOTO budget aids infrastructure development: The WOTO solidarity fund has turned into a gold mine for many private citizens, and local governments as they access funds for starting enterprises in case of the former or develop infrastructure for the latter. The Greater Harton Area has accessed about 650 million Dollars, out of which 150 have gone to the Sewage and Water Corporation, to modernize many of the pipes connecting the city of Harton to its suburbs, namely Abbey, Pearl and Gay Town. The rest of 500 million have been sent to the Greater Harton Transport Authority as they have given green light to an expansion project for Metrolink, building two new lines, the first one connecting Harton Central Station to West Cedarwood, a 15 mile expansion with 7 stations on it. The development program of WOTO is being used by other nations too, as The Great Archipelagic Republic of San Jose has accessed a 1.5 billion dollar fund for the development of its telecom infrastructure, to increase the broadband coverage on Palmira island, while the Republic of Mompracem has also accessed a 1.5 billion fund to build a new hospital in the city of Fai'.

This winter, heating bills will remain low: Spencer Lane, the Minister of Energy has held a press conference where he promised to the Natalian people that the bills for heating will remain low this winter and that they should not be fearful of providing a comfortable temperature in their homes, as gas prices will be low all thanks to the good relationship Natal has with San Jose. While winters in Natal range from mild in the north to non-existent in the south, the cities in the Granite Mountains to the north and north-east are frequently hit by snow storms. While there has been a program to aid people into moving towards electrical appliances towards stoves and heaters, it has been described by many as a failure as gas is still used especially for central heating in apartments and houses. Gas consumption is still the highest around those parts of the nation, which are also seen as some of the most impoverished, with many continuing to use gas as it is seen as cheaper than electricity.

New state formed within the nation: A total of 23 counties within the States of Implaria, Whitting and Lower Natal have voted to secede from their states and to form a new region within the nation. More than 58% of the voters have decided to leave the states and to form a new one, which will be named after the Taima, one of the largest and most populous native Westernesse people that lived in central Natal. The new region, whose official name will be the Taima Nation will offer its own Director to the collective presidency of the Constitutional State of Natal and will need to form its very own government and legislature. The capital of the new state will be Raisin City, which was part of the Implaria State and is the biggest town in the newly formed state. Demographically, while the Taima aren't in as big numbers as they used to be, numbering about 300,000, while mixed people around it numbering an additional 100,000, many in the new state do feel a connection to the region's history hence why the importance in creating the new state.

Discussions over status of Sankt Katharina frozen: Reports have come regarding the negotiations between Natal, Csengia and Tarusa on the status of Sankt Katharina to be stalling or even worse, to have been indefinitely frozen. The government of Natal has proposed the option of buying the islands for 15 billion Natalian Dollars, while also offering Csengia the promise of recognising it as the successor state of Pannonia, something that would have been considered a huge taboo just a mere months before. The main negotiations have been mostly done between Natal and the Empire of Tarusa, the head of the Pressburg Pact and the ally that propped up the Kingdom of Csengia but have reportedly broken down over the value of the archipelago supposedly, with 15 billion dollars being considered to be too little. While the discussions haven't been officially declared over, the fact that Natal redistributed that sum towards the development fund of WOTO, might mean that the interest in buying the islands is wavering. As of yet, Sankt Katharina is a disputed territory between the Confederation of Bourdignie and the Kingdom of Csengia, but the former's crisis that was brought by the Imperial invasion and the latter's lack of power projection have kept the archipelago in this unorthodox status. The government of Natal has stated that further negotiations will be needed and that they do not want to see the issue killed yet, especially after President Olivia Harper Poole has also called for a detente with the nations of the Pressburg Pact.

Coyotes march for Post-Delegationist solidarity: Led by Raphael Allen, the Coyotes, Natal's greatest Post-Delegationist political movement have organised a march in Camp Hill, with more than 150,000 people participating. The Coyotes have called for closer political ties with Caria and Skånskelag, naming the two nations from Gallo-Germania-Scania as "natural allies and ideological brothers" to the blue flag movement. The marchers formed blue blocks, many of them wearing blue clothes and waving solid blue flags, symbols of the post-delegationist ideology in the western hemisphere. In the speech he held in front of the Combs House, Raphael Allen has announced that the Post-Delegationist Action will aid the victims of the riots and violence in Hajr and that they call for greater cooperation between WOTO and the Post-Delegationist nations of the Eastern Hemisphere, namely Touzen, Caria and Skånskelag.

Nation celebrates two centuries of Día de la Responsabilidad
  • National holiday sees the whole people celebrate 1821
  • Día de la Responsabilidad celebrates the end of company rule in Natal
  • Grand military parades organised in Santa Fe and Callao
The people of Natal are celebrating the national holiday, with family dinners, barbecues and fireworks as they mark two centuries since the adoption of the responsible government, creating the Occidental Republic of Natal, from the ashes of the ancient Sollegan North Occidentian Company. In 1821, after nearly three centuries of being administered by the North Occidentian Company, created under the auspices of the Most Serene Republic & League of Sollega and the exploration expeditions it sponsored.

After three centuries of company rule, the Natalians clamored for the adoption of a modern government style, where they would be citizens, all equal in front of the law, and the territory would be transformed into a modern day nation state. With tensions between patriotic militias and the security forces of the North Occidentian Company at an all time high, Eduardo Ferrant Galan is celebrated to be the Lord Governor of the Company that accepted the issues of the population and called for a referendum on the Company, with 80% of the votes going into "Responsible Government", turning the lands of the North Occidentian Company into the Occidental Republic of Natal and Galan into the nation's first president. The move was quickly recognised by Sollega, thus keeping the relationship between Callao (capital of Natal at that time, before the founding of Santa Fe) and Saragoza on friendly terms. Thus, the name of the holiday, Dia de Responsabilidad comes from the elected form of governance agreed upon by the Natalians, namely the "Responsible Government". The decision brought forth the nationalization of the North Occidental Company and its reformation into the newly proclaimed republic.

Usually, the Dia de Responsabilidad was celebrated in family, with many enjoying the mild and warm climate of Natal to organise family barbecues, or if they were living in the States of Nuevo Tiburia or Puntarenas, go to the beach. In the bigger cities, military parades are the norm, but also shows where patriotic songs can be listened too, while enjoying traditional foods such as fish or stingray machaca (minced) burritos on the coast or beef asada in the interior. Today, as the national holiday celebrates two centuries since the proclamation of the Republic, the military parades and shows, especially in big cities like Santa Fe, Callao, San Juan or Heredia, have been grander and much more festive than ever.

More than 15,000 soldiers marched into the Avenida Nacional of Santa Fe, from the government's headquarters of Casa Verde to the central plaza of the city, 2 de Diciembre, awing more than 10,000 people which have gathered to watch the soldiers of the National Republican Army, informally known as the Green Army. The march itself showcased not only the current status of the Green Army, showing the most modern weapons of the armed forces such as the Ocelot armored car or the Halcón Rojo attack helicopter, but also showing the historical and guard uniforms of the army.

"The 2nd of December is a very important day for our nation, especially this year, when we celebrate two centuries since the company rule has ended and our independent, sovereign and free republic was born. This year has been hard for many and fears of global war were kept on the main pages of the newspapers, but the end of the year brings the nation of Natal stronger than ever and strongly determined to defend its liberty and freedom, but also, its peace. The great constitutional changes that we have gone through this year prove to be an important symbol for the future, as two centuries ago we created the Occidential Republic of Natal, and this year, by adopting the directorial republic with its Post-Delegationist Characteristics, we have created the United States of Natal, cementing the rule of law, social equity and the individual freedoms of our citizens, while also opening our nation to all who see it as a beacon of hope for a better life. I can't imagine that the legacy of the honorable Eduardo Ferrant Galan could be respected in any way better than this, for the founding fathers of Natal would have been proud not only of us, and what our generation has done, but for the great steps taken by all the nations of Westernesse and Occidentia, from the Federation, to San Jose and Gran Occidentia. May we all live in peace, democracy and prosperity!" stated in her speech at the Casa Verde, her excellency, Presidenta Linda Campos Restrepo.
