Our navy is being carrying out non-aggressive patrols but is keeping watching eye in the Gothic sea, the reason we are on high alert is because of situation you have mentioned. The Department of Security & Defence have told Naval commanders to try their best not to disturbance any commercial shipping lines. There hasn't been reports that any of our ships stopping or been hostile towards fishermen from Gouw Marken. The only reason we will be hostile if they gone within our waters without having a fishing permit or fished in areas environmentally protected to stop overfishing.

We want to thank the King and People of Eiffelland for their efforts to maintain peace in the Gothic Sea and defending the rights of the neutral nations.
Once again Eifelland is at our side in doubtful times.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Wolfgang Norbert Falkenrath
10th of MARCH, 1956
The Kingdom of Eiffelland

The Empire has heard the words of the Kingdom of Eiffelland and takes them in the most serious of regards. The Gothic Sea, in particular the are that is currently consumed by war, represents a narrow, but nevertheless active area of international trade. That trade is the cornerstone of human civilization and relied upon by all nations in order to secure the quality of life of its citizens.

The Empire’s naval activity is limited to a zone located 10-12 miles off the coast of the rebel Milesian territory within the High Kingdom of Ivernia. While classified naval activity is taking place elsewhere – within the full rights of a sovereign nation and full acknowledgement of international law – the preservation of trade routes between countries is a serious matter that the Imperial Navy is taking the utmost concern over.

We thank the Kingdom of Eiffelland for its concern over the preservation of trade in the Gothic Sea and we would like to assure the Kingdom that the Empire is taking all steps to ensure that only military activity that would elongate the Milesian revolt is being hindered by the Imperial Navy.

.

Government invites Justinian representatives to Eiffelland

As soon as the Justinian government announced that it would extend the economic treaty reached between the Propontine Empire and Justiza, the Eiffellandian government sent an invitation to the Government of Justiza to send representatives to Trier. A spokesperson of the Ministry for Economic Affairs indicated: “First of all, let it be clear that we are very grateful about the Justinian offer, and that we will accept it. But we cannot just send a copy of the economic paragraphs of last week’s treaty between the Propontine Empire and Justiza to the Staatstag and the Staatsrat and that’s it. Therefore, we invite a representative of the Justinian government to Eiffelland to show our gratitude and to put everything on paper. But of course it is also an option for us to go to Justiza.”

Weissenfelser Bauskandal unfolds
Serious construction errors in buildings constructed by Bicker Bau

What has become known as the Weissenfelser Bauskandal is unfolding itself more and more. It was already known that important security measures were ignored by Bicker Bau, but the municipal government of Weissenfels also indicated that some buildings from Bicker Bau contain serious construction errors. This was added to the original charge. The Court of Justice of Weissenfels indicated that the trials would start mid April. Among others former mayor Bornicher and Lambert Bicker will stand trial.

Tiburan Empire
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Private Communique

20th of March, 1956
To the attention of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Eiffelland and the Republic of Justiza

Esteemed sirs,

We taken notice of the interest the Kingdom of Eiffelland has expressed, concerning a trade agreement with the Republic of Justiza, similar to that which our Empire recentlty struck with the Government of the aformentioned insular State. The Tiburan Empire has always considered an expansion in its economic and diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Eiffelland a pivotal step towards prosperity and stability in the Long Sea. With that in mind, we would like to propose a joint meeting between representatives from our three nations, so as to discuss a strengthening in our relations. The Grand Duchy of Nichstein could also be a valuable voice at the table, should such a meeting take place, however their attendance would be up to Your Excellencies to decide.

Signed and Sealed,

Ioannis Argyropoulos

We are certainly interested in such a meeting, and also in an economic partnership between the Propontine Empire, Justiza, Eiffelland and Nichtstein. We are sure that the Government of Nichtstein will be interested in such a deal as well.

Ministry for Defence announces decommission of last Panther tanks

The land army still had some Panther tanks in service and in reserve, but it had always been in the planning to replace these tanks with Löwe tanks. This process has been completed: Now all the Panther tanks in service of the Eiffellandian armed forces have been decommissioned. As per tradition, the company museum of Magirus-Deutz alreay has one tank of each version of the Panther ever made. It has been decided that some of the decommissioned Panthers will go to musea, and the remainder will be sold.
The replacement of the Panther tanks is part of the policy of the Ministry for Defence and the Armed Forces to continuously renew all the military equipment to keep the Armed Forces up to date. Also the Tiger tanks will be replaced during the coming years, as well as the propeller fighters and bombers, which still date from the 1940s. Also the T28 transporter plane will be replaced, partly by the Herakles, partly by a new plane that will be introduced in the near future. Furthermore, the Kaiser Lothar der Erste, Eiffelland's aircraft carrier, will be replaced with a larger aircraft carrier, to be built by shipyards from the Propontine Empire.
The Ministry for Defence also announced that Dassau Flugzeugwerke will introduce the Sturmvogel, a new fighter plane, by the beginning of next year. The Sturmvogel is a plane that can take off and land on an aircraft carrier, and that has outstanding characteristics in air combat. More new fighter planes, the Luftgeist and the Wassergeist, will be introduced in the beginning of the 1960s.

Prince-Bishop of Gouw-Marken to visit Eiffelland

Prince-Bishop Quintus II of Gouw-Marken will pay a state visit to Eiffelland. King Albrecht invited him to visit Eiffelland as his guest, and the Prince-Bishop accepted the invitation. He will among others pay a visit to the Universität der Stadt Trier, which currently cooperates with universities in Gouw-Marken to fight the Black Fungus that ruined Gouw-Marken’s complete harvest last year, leading to a famine in the country. As soon as it became clear what was happening, Eiffelland and Kadikistan sent humanitarian aid to Gouw-Marken. This also led to the country’s introduction to the phenomenon motorised traffic in a country where trucks and cars are either forbidden or subject to very strong regulations.
The Prince-Bishop will be the guest of the King. Apart from a visit to the Universität der Stadt Trier, it is said that he will also meet with the Archbishops of Köln and Weissenfels, Thorsten von Aschenbach and Rudolph Strelecki. Furthermore, the Prince-Bishop would also visit the factories of Magirus-Deutz where agricultural machines are made, as well as visit the Technische Universität Marburg, where also agricultural techniques are taught.

Reckoning in drugs scene?

With the discovery of the corpse of Egon Müller in the harbour of Varel, yet another notorious figure in the Eiffellandian milieu has been killed. Egon Müller, nicknamed “The Spider”, was an important figure in the milieu in Helgoland. The Police indicated that he was the man who coordinated drug traffic at the Eiffellandian Long Sea Islands, and from there drug traffic into Mainland Eiffelland. It is also rumoured that he was involved in drug traffic to parts of Northern Hymiar, Ruthenia-Galicia and Nichtstein, although those rumours were never confirmed. In younger years, he was arrested and convicted a few times, once to 10 years imprisonment for robbery. In the years before his death, he managed to set up criminal network in Helgoland.
Egon Müller is the tenth man in a series of killings among leading figures in the drugs scene that started a few months ago with the killing of Tom Haas (nicknamed “Langer Tom”) in Trier in March. Rumours suggest that the killings are reckonings in the drugs scene, but those rumours have not been confirmed.

Air force flies 100 jet fighters to Rügen and Helgoland
Old Air force bases on the Long Sea Islands reopened

Reporters of the Helgolander Rundfunk recently discovered an increased activity on and around the air force bases on the island that were closed in 1941. A couple of months ago, they discovered construction works at those air force bases. A spokesperson of the air force base Aurich indicated that the construction works were only part of necessary maintenance of the bases; it would not be in the plans of the air force to re-open them, but it should be possible to re-use them in case of war, which was also stipulated in the law that determined the closure of these air force bases.
But then something unexpected happened. During last week, fighter planes appeared to land on the previously closed air force bases. As soon as the Helgolander Rundfunk broadcasted this news, reporters of the Rügener Rundfunk checked out the old closed air force bases on those islands as well. They appeared to be completely refitted as well. And also there fighter planes were landing during last week.
Further research on the islands learned that not only the old bases were “maintained” and filled with planes, but also that a few new bases had been built. All filled with fighter planes. Furthermore, large radar installations are built on the islands as well.
When this became known to Radio 1, the weekly press conference with the Chancellor had already ended. However, we were able to confront the Chancellor with these findings at Schloss Bellevue. He explained that it was indeed the government’s intention to re-open the closed air force bases and build additional air force bases on the islands. A total of 100 planes will be stationed at the islands additional to the 50 planes already there. They will form the Jagdbomberdivision Helgoland-Rügen.
We also contacted Hans-Jochen Rudersbach, the political leader of the largest opposition party, the SPE. He became furious and called it a scandal that the government had created accomplished facts with these air force bases. He would order an emergency-debate for Monday, where he would file a motion of distrust for bypassing Parliament, which should have had the final say in re-opening the closed air force bases on the islands, and even more with the construction of new air force bases: «voice of Rudersbach» “Chancellor Von Seydewitz has dangerously destabilised the international order in the Long Sea and the Kalahari Sea with this move.

New Air Force bases on the islands

It is already a week ago that Radio Eiffelland and the regional broadcasters in Helgoland and Rügen brought the news that the Government was building new Air Force bases and reopening old Air Force bases on the islands. This led to a tumultuous start of the week. Opposition leader Hans-Jochen Rudersbach SPE) already indicated that he would request an emergency debate on Monday, and that he would file a motion of distrust. Immediately on the next day, he contacted the Chairman of the Staatstag to organise an emergency debate on Monday.
The problem with these Air Force bases is the following. According the Eiffellandian Law, the decision to reopen the bases and build new bases could not have been taken by the Government alone. This had to be approved by the Staatstag and Staatsrat. The Government clearly bypassed Parliament with this move, and in quite a gross way. That was the reason why Rudersbach reacted so vehemently on this news. It was also a risky action, because the government would have been forced to close the Air Force bases when Parliament would have voted against it, and would have been held accountable for the wasted money. That could even have led to the downfall of the government, and would definitely have ended the political lives of the complete cabinet. Why did Von Seydewitz cum suis take this risk and confronted Parliament with accomplished facts?
During the debate, Prime-Minister Von Seydewitz and Minister for Defence Clausewitz pointed at the events in the Kalahari Sea involving Justiza, as well as the Ivernish and Bolonesvian civil wars, and indicated that the blockade of Justiz could happen to other islands or countries as well, even to Helgoland and Rügen. This is indeed a valid point. The awakening of Kadikistan completely changed the balance of power in the Kalahari Sea, and the blockade of Justiza had its impact on the commercial sea travel as well. On the other hand, a total of 150 fighter planes at least suggests that the Cabinet Von Seydewitz II has more ambitious plans. This will shift the balance in the Kalahari Sea again, and may lead to a confrontation with Kadikistan in the near future. Is that something Eiffelland is prepared for? And is keeping Kadikistan at bay a role that Eiffelland can play? If yes, for how long will we be able to sustain that role?
The most important bugbear in the discussion was the fact that Von Seydewitz confronted Parliament with accomplished facts. This was a problem in both the Staatstag and the Staatsrat. Especially Rudersbach was very clear about the fact that the Cabinet had “bypassed Parliament” and had carried out decisions that had to be approved by Parliament first. He filed a motion of distrust because of this. In the end, that motion of distrust was only supported by the SPE, the PRP and the KPE, but it set the tone of the debate. Von Seydewitz’s defended his move by saying that his aim was merely to present “countries that recently showed the intention to disturb the peace in the Kalahari Sea” with accomplished facts, and that he could not do so without bypassing Parliament, for which he apologised. That was not enough to calm down the opposition, however. The LDP and the PCL considered a motion of distrust too drastic, but they drafted a motion of censure instead. A motion of censure was also drafted in the Staatsrat.
In any case, Von Seydewitz troubled the relations with the opposition to a large extent. This is particularly the case for his relations with the SPE, more precisely with Hans-Jochen Rudersbach, who was part of the second Cabinet Jörgens together with Von Seydewitz. That may have consequences for the stability of the next Cabinet if the current coalition parties loose their majority in the next election.
Von Seydewitz has his new air force bases in Helgoland and Rügen, but It is also clear that he cannot make such a move again. Indeed, he is backed by a large majority in the Staatstag, but there is a chance that he will upset Members of Parliament of the coalition parties as well. Furthermore, he will have to take into account that he or his successor may have to form a cabinet with the SPE, so with Hans-Jochen Rudersbach.

National coalition looses seats in provincial elections

After the election committee officially announced the results of last Sunday's provincial elections in Niedereiffel, it is official that the two parties who form the national coalition (CDV and FDV) lost the elections. It remains to be seen to which extent national issues played a role in these elections, but it is obvious that the reinforcements of the air force at the islands (and especially the way the Cabinet handled it) played a role. Here are the results:

CDV: 23.76% (from 29 to 25 seats).
SPE: 20.90% (from 19 to 22 seats).
LDP: 18.05% (from 17 to 19 seats).
FDV: 11.40% (from 14 to 12 seats).
PRP: 10.45% (from 10 to 11 seats).
KPE: 4.75% (keeps its 5 seats).
PCL: 3.80% (from 2 to 4 seats).
VU: 1.90% (from 4 to 2 seats).
Other parties: 4.98% (0 seats).

The new composition of the provincial parliament of Niedereiffel shows a novum in the Eiffellandian parliamentary history: For the first time there is a majority for a leftwing coalition at provincial level: The SPE, LDP and PRP have 52 of 100 seats. The coalition negotiations will be opened by the largest political party though, and that is still the CDV. It remains to be seen if the Christiandemocrats will be able to form a coalition, also in the light of rumours that the SPE, LDP and PRP are indeed informally talking about forming a coalition in Niedereiffel.

SPE, LDP and PRP agree upon provincial government in Niedereiffel

For the first time in decades, the CDV will not take part in a provincial government. The SPE, LDP and PRP agreed upon forming the new provincial government of Niedereiffel. With that, the PRP is part of a provincial government for the first time in history, and for the CDV the fist time in decades that it does not take part in a provincial government. I tremains to be seen if this coalition will hold, but it will definitely count as a means to test whether a leftwing government is possible in Eiffelland. It will make the negotiation position for the SPE against the CDV better if this test succeeds.

Prince-Bischop of Gouw-Marken visits Eiffelland

Gouw-Marken lived in relative isolation for a very long time. During those days, practically only businessmen from Gouw-Marken travelled abroad, and only businessmen visited the country. But things have changed. Prince-Bishop Quintus II already started carefully with opening the country, but then the black mold ruined the harvest of the country. Both Eiffelland and Kadikistan sent humanitarian aid, and that was the beginning of a further opening of the country. Embassies were opened in Markstad, and Gouw-Marken opened embassies in Eiffelland and Kadikistan.
But now the opening of the country goes further. A law prohibiting the Prince-Bishop to leave the country was repealed, and now state-visits are possible. The first country visited by the Prince-Bishop was Kadikistan, but now it is Eiffelland’s turn. Prince-Bishop Quintus II visits Eiffelland as a personal guest of the King, and to perform a state-visit. He travelled to Eiffelland with a convoy returning home, and then he flew with his entourage from Lübeck to Trier in several helicopters.
The program for the state visit is said to be quite full. Of course a work visit to the Markener embassy in Trier will be on the schedule, but also a speech to Parliament, an audience with Archbishops Strelecki and Von Aschenbach and Bishop of Trier Purzmann, a visit to the Universität der Stadt Trier and the Technische Universität Köln, a visit to an agricultural vehicle factory of Magirus-Deutz, an open-air concert and a visit to the Opera. But today the Prince-Bishop and the King went to the Pergamon-Museum, a museum where a complete ancient city from Hymiar was rebuilt. The Prince-Bishop will stay at Schloss Charlottenburg and attend mass in the Trierer Dom.

Prince-Bishop of Gouw-Marken adresses both Chambers of Parliament

As part of his state visit to Eiffelland, Prince-Bishop Quintus II of Gouw-Marken adressed the Staatstag and the Staatsrat in a combined session with the Government as well as the King, the Queen, the Crown-Prince and his wife Princess Laura. The Prince-Bishop held the following speech.
Your Majesty,
Your Royal Highnesses,
Honourable members of this Parliament,

It is with emotions and gratitude I stand before you. Almost a year ago our nation saw the first signs of what would be a catastrophe. After a wet spring and early summer, our crops started to develop a yet almost unknown fungus. No one was able to top this process. We were all in shock: the pest had hit and in its path it brought famine, sickness, desperation. Darkness had reached us, and covered our counties one after another. We fought against it, and we were losing the battle. We prayed for help, and our prayers were heard: you, our friends from Eiffelland, came to help and you did it with all resources available, and more, you did it in faith and in brotherly love. ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ Our gratitude will stand throughout times. Years from now, children in Gouw Marken will learn at school about Eiffellands kindness. We must remember, as St.-Paul wrote: 'God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown for His name as you have ministered to the saints and continue to do so'. Our countries are more as ever united in friendship.

And now, Honourable Members, it is time to rebuild the country. Your universities are fighting the fungus andmaking progress. Your agricultural knowledge came into our counties together with the humanitarian aid you send us. We stand at the beginning of a new era.

As a token of our gratitude I will offer His Majesty a 12th century Bible, brought into Gouw Marken by Eifelandic monks. It is probably the most valuable piece of St.-Jansbergen Abbey, found on a ship together with other Gouw Marken antiques, sold by the abbey to buy food. The destination of this book was unknown. Saved from barbarians, who tried to gain from our misery. Now it is back home. We read in that Holy Scripture: ‘He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, but he who is gracious to the needy honors Him’. We know who is who on the international stage.

Some of you may think Gouw Marken has taken an unexpected turn. But no, Honoured Members, I can assure you nothing is changed. We stand alongside Eiffelland to defend the values we stand for. And we know some nations are after nothing more than hegemony in world economics. 'Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but in wardly they are ravenous wolves'. My brothers in Eiffelland, think about this. Be aware of these wolfs. They will face their punishment, as Isaiah says: ‘Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him, For what he deserves will be done to him’. And further: ‘Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud and abase the haughtiness of the ruthless'. And then, a new earth is born, an earth of equality, of wealth for every family, a world where 'the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little boy will lead them'.

Together we will find a way to rebuild this world. 'Therefore a strong people will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will revere you', Isaiah says. Amen.

After his speech, the Prince-Bishop handed his gift to King Albrecht, who indicated that he was very grateful to receive it. The 12th Century Bible will be preserved carefully in the Royal Library, which is specialised in preserving ancient books. In his reply on the speech of the Prince-Bishop, the King indicated that Eiffelland did what it had to do in the case of a country in need after a disaster, not only in the name of God, but also in the name of humanity.

After the speech before Parliament, the King and the Prince-Bishop visited the Universität der Stadt Trier for a lecture on the black fungus and how it can be tackled.

Commissariat for External Affairs

The People's Republic informs the Kingdom that it has been made aware of secret bank accounts in the country's financial capital which have the wealth of many criminals who absconded from the People's Republic in wake of the Revolution and so we demand that the Trier Government take robust action in returning the money of the Serenien people. The criminality of the former aristocratic and royalist regime is known to the world and we urge the Trier Government to refrain from protecting criminals and the corrupt. Corruption is a contagion that once spread spoils anything that which it touches. The Eiffellander Crown should heed this warning, lest its own people rise up to fight off the aristocratic dictatorship that currently rules that noble land.

We have to make our counterparts in the Commissariat for External Affairs in Serenierre aware of the fact that the Eiffellandian Government is also bound by Eiffellandian legislation. We as the Government cannot simply seize private property at will, unless there is an extremely pressing reason based on public interest, or the private property in question has been obtained through criminal methods. Even in those cases, the Government has to prove its case before court. We advice the Government of Serenierre to contact a barrister in Eiffelland and let him determine the legal path with the highest chance of success.

We also want to make clear that the People of Eiffelland do not need to revolt if they want a new government; they can simply vote for different political parties to get a different government, without a single fist to be raised. That may be a bit strange concept in the eyes of the average citizen of Serenierrre, but it works great in Eiffelland.
