Chetnik Empire bans products of Boehrig Ingelheim

In a speech broadcasted on all television channels of the Chetnik Empire, the dictator of that country indicated to ban all products of the Eiffellandian pharmaceutical company Boehrig Ingelheim. The reason for the ban was Boehrig Ingelheim's medication to treat menstrual disorders, which has a side-effect that Boehrig Ingelheim describes as a "known side-effect". A spokesperson of the company indicated the following: "Indeed, we know that infertility is a side-effect of this medication. However, we also know that this infertility disappears as soon as the medication is not taken any more. This means that the women taking this medication will become fertile again as soon as they stop taking the medication. So we are talking about a known and reversible side-effect. We also explicitly mention this side effect in the medication leaflet, as per Eiffellandian law. That is all we can do. We cannot force the physicians or the patients to read the medication leaflets, however."
On a question from our reporter whether the medication leaflet was in German, the spokesperson said: "With all due respect, we are an international company operating on the international market. Of course we translate our medication leaflets into the local languages. The medication packages we sell in the Chetnik Empire contain medication leaflets in the local language of the Chetnik Empire. We even print the medication leaflets for Lauenburg in Lauenburger German. We do everything we can to inform the physicians and the patients."
The spokesperson of Boehrig-Ingelheim also indicated that "it is impossible to make medications without side-effects". "We do everything we can to make sure that the side-effects are acceptable, but medications completely without side-effects do not exist and cannot exist."
The Dictator of the Chetnik Empire also indicated that several women took the medication because of the side-effect infertility. This touches a subject that is controversial in many countries, also Eiffelland: Contraception, i.e. taking measures to prevent pregnancies. The spokesperson of Boehrig Ingelheim indicated on that: "Of course it is possible that somebody takes our medications because of the side-effects instead of the main effect. However, we cannot prevent that. We do not have any influence on which medication a physician prescribes. Of course we inform physicians about our medications, but in the end it is the physician's decision which medication he prescribes to which patient." On an explicit question whether Boehrig Ingelheim sold the medication in question as a contraception, the spokesperson said: "This medication is a medication against menstruation disorders. It is not a contraception. We never meant to market it as a contraception, and we never marketed it as a contraception. It is a medication against menstruation disorders, and we market it as such."

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs indicated that it is in contact with the Government of the Chetnik Empire about the matter.

Eiffelland announces trade boycott against Chetnik company šajkača

A spokesperson of the Ministry for Economic Affairs indicated that the Government is going to impose a trade boycott against the Chetnik company šajkača to reciprocate the Chetnik boycott against the Eiffellandian company Boehrig Ingelheim. Two other Chetnik companies will be boycotted as well. This move is quite a striking one, not only because three companies are boycotted by Eiffelland for one company boycotted by the Chetnik Empire, but also because šajkača is a company owned by a cousin of the dictator of the Chetnik Empire. On a question of a journalist about this, the spokesperson said: "We are very well aware of the fact that šajkača is owned by a family member of the dictator of the Chetnik Empire. Actually, we got a strange telephone call, in which it was indicated that the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire would not care for what would happen to any of the Chetnik companies operating in Eiffelland, but that šajkača should be left unharmed, exactly because of the family connection between the owner of that company and the dictator of the Chetnik Empire. I must say that this attitude is despiccable in our point of view: Apparently the dictator of the Chetnik Empire doesn't care for the people in his country at all, but only for his family. We can do whatever we want with all Chetnik companies operating in Eiffelland, seizing their properties, arresting their employees, whatever we like, because those companies are not owned by family members of the Dictator. But we have to leave šajkača unharmed, because that company is owned by a family member of the dictator himself. Basically the country is governed by someone who doesn't care about the people he governs. We as a country cannot cooperate with this corrupt way of working. The šajkača corporation cannot be left out of scope of any boycott measure against the Chetnik Empire. But there is a way out for the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire: Lift the boycott against Boehrig Ingelheim, and we will lift the boycotts against Chetnik companies immediately, also the boycott against šajkača."

Public message from dictator to Eiffeland

Citizens of our glorious Empire! I was called a corrupt, they called me out for not caring about my citizens! Why? Just cause my cousin own the glorious company of šajkača? And cause i dont defend any other company? Lets not forget, company is in Eiffeland! How the hell can you compare citizens with my... I mean Chetnik companies? Companies are bussiness, citizens are living beings. Dont get me wrong, i do care about companies in my own borders, but i dont care that much about companies in foreign land. Most of those Chetnik companies in foreign nations are not even gaining main income from there, expect some international companies! One of them is šajkača. You citizens of this glorious nations know how glorious šajkačas are! I dont defend my co... šajkača company cause of my cousin! Dont get me wrong i love my cousin, but šajkača is one of our national symbols! They litteraly ban our national symbol! See i do care about my citizens, at the end if i didnt cared about my citizens but for money i would welcome Boehrig Ingelheim! But you see, i care so i didnt gave that company to pass our borders! Me corrupt? Yes i am tyrant but that doesnt immediately mean that im corrupt! Chetniks are good with tyrants, but bad with democrats. You see if there was democracy here, this nation would probably every 4 years have a civil war, in general Chetniks are not most co-operative in terms of politics. With centralized government, everyone is happy, nation is kept together. But than you will ask, what if dictator is a bad guy? You see if people would not like me in this nation, i would probably be dead by now, thats how communist regime ended here!
Now lets get to main subject, our colleges from Eiffieland sent an ultimatum, "Lift the boycott against Boehrig Ingelheim, and we will lift the boycotts against Chetnik companies immediately, also the boycott against šajkača.". You see, spite. By saying this to Chetniks is like, its just not working. Of course we will deny this beautiful ultimatum! We are in need to of course... ohh wait! We dont have any foreign companies in our country! I mean we have but in really small number. While stuff from other countries mainly comes from import of Chetnik companies, and all the goods that are being imported are being highly-inspected. So look cause of my citizens im not going to boycott import of your good in here, and those few companies of yours. I defended šajkača cause of its greatness! But in general your move is really childish, we boycott import of some of your goods and you get angry? We choose what we want to import and what we dont want(slowly gets furious). This nation is threatening our nation soverginity! This is unacceptable! How dare you tell us what we can import and we cant! This has gone to far, they may as well tell us what we can drink and eat! I am even talking about this as an issue!? How the hell banning import of some product is issue!?? Listen here, i will ban import on whatever i want, we are soveirign nation! We will never forget this! Nation of Eiffeland is telling us what we can import and what we cant! I urge, i urge all Chetnik companies too immediately leave the Eiffeland, and to never come back. I will give subsidies! if needed. Im done with this bullshit!(sits tired on his chair)Thats all, bye!

We are a bit concerned about the way the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire is currently sitting in his chair. Therefore, we advice him to have his heart examined. We also take note of the Dictator's call upon Chetnik companies to leave Eiffelland. We will facilitate that.
By the way, talking about heart disorders, the Eiffellandian company Medictronics is about to introduce the internal pacemaker. Boycott or not, we will make that device available for the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire when needed.

Our concerns about the Chetnik dictator’s health apart, we would also like to react on the contents of his speech.

Indeed, it is up to the Government of the Chetnik Empire to decide which products are allowed on the market and which products are not. Actually, we ourselves thoroughly test the products to be allowed on the markets here, too. Nobody wants a bread toaster that electrocutes you, for instance.
The problem we had with the ban on all products from Boehrig Ingelheim, is that a complete company is banned because one of its medications, to be precise Microgyne, has a side-effect, to be precise temporary infertility, that is apparently unacceptable to the Chetnik authorities. It would have been different to us if only Microgyne was banned because of this side‑effect (we considered it acceptable, because the side-effect is temporary, i.e. it disappears when the medication is stopped), but the whole company was banned for propagandistic reasons. Then we have no other option than react.

We also like to emphasize the importance of campanies to a country and its inhabitants. A Head of Government who cares for his citizens, also cares for the companies of his citizens, simply because his citizens earn their livings by means of these companies. One of the key tasks of a Government is creating the conditions under which companies can flourish in such a way that they can give the citizens of the nation a healthy and comfortable life. But apparently the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire only cares for Šajkača, because it is a national symbol, and because it is his cousin’s company. All other Chetnik companies can lose their revenues earned abroad. That is what he said in his speech earlier this week, but also more explicitly in a telephone call to the Eiffellandian Ministry for Foreign Affairs that the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire conducted over, nota bene, an insecure line, even after we warned him that he was calling over an insecure line. We would expect a more sensible approach from someone who leads a country with 57 million inhabitants.

By the way, contrary to what we indicated earlier this week, the implantable pacemaker from Medictronics is not about to be introduced, but was introduced in November last year. This means that it is already available to the market. Our offer to provide the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire with an implantable pacemaker when he needs one still stands.

SCHAU!

CHETNIK DICTATOR FAVOURS COUSIN’S COMPANY ŠAJKAČA

“DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH ALL OTHER CHETNIK COMPANIES”

Suppose you are the dictator of a country with 57 million inhabitants. Of course then you try to squeeze as much money out of your country as possible, both for yourself and for the people you like. For instance your family. But then suddenly there is a foreign company which has a product that potentially undermines one of the pillars your regime is based on: Religion. A foreign company imports a medication into your country that is actually a contraceptive but is sold as a medication against “abnormal menstruations” with “temporary infertility” as “side-effect”. We at Schau! are already finding out what is really happening with this medication, but we will publish about that later.
Now we focus on the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire. The man who imposed a ban on all products from Boehrig Ingelheim after women became infertile while taking Microgyne. The Dictator understood what we at Schau! understand as well: The women did not take Microgyne because of their menstruation complaints; they only faked those complaints to get a contraceptive pill. Something that doesn’t suit you as a Dictator who wants to be seen as the saviour of Christianity in your country, so you impose a ban on all the products of the company producing Microgyne. But now something happens that you didn’t expect: The country where this company is located threatens with imposing bans on companies from your country. Big problem! You cannot lift the ban without loss of face, but when your cousin’s company is banned from Eiffelland, your cousin will lose a lot of money, which may result in you losing a loyal vassal. So what are you going to do?

We at Schau! know what the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire did. He took the telephone and called the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Eiffelland. Over an insecure line. And that meant that some people other than the employees from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs could hear what was discussed. We at Schau! obtained a recording of this telephone call:

Dictator: Hey, hey... Is that, (in the background the dictator asks: whats his name again? Someone answers saying: Rudolph Dogleger sir.), yeah the Dogleger guy?

Secretary: We dont know anyone called Dogleger here sir, who is calling?

Dictator: umm...

Secretary: Please sir?

Dictator: Yes, yes im calling yes...

Secretary: Whats your name and surname?

Dictator: Milan Ninkovic!

Secretary: Sir this is not a secure line i suggest you...

Dictator: I suggest you to give the Dogleger guy! Rudolph Dogleger!

Secretary: You mean the Minister for Foreign Affairs? His surname is Kögler.

Dictator: Ohh, sorry im bad with remembering names, i have a bad short term memory, however i have an IQ of 156, so dont think im stupid or something!

Secretary: Minister Dog.. Kogleger is currently busy please call later over a secure line.

Dictator: Ugh... You really dont understand? Get that dogleger up his nose and get him in here we have some serious public un-secure telephone call to do.

Secretary: Mr.dictator im really sorry but its not possible right now.

Dictator: Ohh... Ok than but, cause i wont have time later here is what you can do, you can listen to me and tell this to leger guy.

Secretary: Im listening.

Dictator: Mr. Dog... Kogleger. You can do anything, with any Chetnik company you want in your country, i have no problem with that. But do not! I repeat Do not! Do not put comparable measures (embargos against companies, BoE) to the... to the šajkača corporation! If you do we will be forced to close all ties with Eiffieland which also means banning all your companies in here.

Secretary: Is that it?

Dictator: No... Here i want you to write down on paper after the message write... Hmm... Hmm... Never matter thats it!

Secretary: Ok i will send this message to him as soon as im able to.

Dictator: Thank you. Also tell him that owner of company is my cousin!

Secretary: Sure. Anything else?

Dictator: No thanks, bye!

-Hangs up-

The Dictator of the Chetnik Empire said that he would have been dead by now if the Chetniks wouldn’t want him as their leader. We at Schau! think that he owes his life more to an effective secret service than to the fact that the Chetniks like him so much. They have a man as their leader who effectively boozes his brain cells away, as shown in his lack of a short-term memory, who explicitly says that we can do whatever we like with Chetnik companies but makes an exception for his cousin’s company (probably also because he himself earns a lot of money through that company), and who doesn’t take the effort to arrange a secure line for his negotiations with foreign governments.

OOC: Schau! is one of the Eiffellandian tabloids. Think of The Sun, or Bild Zeitung.

Carnival in Eiffelland

The Sunday of Carnival is traditionally the day of the Carnival Cavalcades. All over Eiffelland, processions of Carnival Floats ride through the main roads in the cities. Carnival is also the traditional time of the year in which hierarchies are more or less turned down. The normally very obedient, formal and calm Eiffellandians let it all go and make fun of their bosses. And of local, provincial and national politicians. Of course the Royal Family isn’t safe for the Carnival jokes of the masses, either.
Not even foreign Heads of State and Heads of Government. The jokes about those persons are generally harmless when they are from nations considered friendly by the Eiffellandian people, but Nikolai Leninov, Serazin from Serenierre, and the leaders from the SWR and the Chetnik Empire usually have a harder time in the Carnival Cavalcades and during the Carnival Sessions. Also Roman Becker from Cumbria was paroded heavily in the Cavalcades.
Most striking were the ways Serazin from Serenierre was shown. As a reaction to a show in Serenierre in which a bull representing Serazin guts a pig representing the Grand-Duke of Burgundy, many Carnival Associations put a fat ox with Serazin’s face on their floats, complete with large rings through Serazin’s nose. The Cavalcade in Köln even contained a fat ox in a yoke before a plough, behind which Leninov was standing in an army uniform with a large whip; of course the ox had Serazin’s face and a big ring through the nose, and of course Ox Serazin and Farmer-General Leninov were looking towards the Grand-Duke of Bourgogne, who looked annoyed but not impressed. There are rumours that several Carnival Associations had plans to do something with the Serenierre raid against the offices of Affiliated Press and several human rights associations, but probably that happened too close before Carnival, because no Carnival Association did.
Also striking was the fact that many Carnival Associations had decided to do a comparable thing for the Dictator of the Chetnik Empire. THE way used by everyone to represent him was a gigantic gorilla with the Dictator’s face. Almost all of those gorillas stood at the float in several different bodybuilding poses, and almost all had a bunch of people under one of his feet. Quite a lot of Carnival Associations quickly modified their floats during the week before Carnival: Some made gorillas crashing Boehrig Ingelheim in one hand and having an enormous bundle of money in the other hand, but most just put enormous bundles of money in both hands of the gorilla. One Carnival Association in Aachen managed to radically change their float: They changed the bodybuilder gorilla into a fat gorilla sitting in a chair exhausted and gasping for air, using a group of people as a footrest and having enormous bundles of money in his hands.

Carnival will continue until Tuesday night. Then exactly at Midnight, Carnival will stop. At Ash Wednesday, everybody will go to Church to get ashes: “Memento, homo, quod pulvis es, et in pulverem reverteris” (Remember, man, that dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return).

The Office of the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein hereby states that no offense was taken in the parody at the Carnaval of His Excellency the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy, Count Gerald von Rivien, as dancing in underwear surrounded by pretty young women. Also in underwear.

Save maybe for the fact that there could have been more pretty women. In less underwear.

We would like to inform the Kingdom of Eiffelland that actions of the immoral carnival are highly dangerous in these sensitive times. All nations should take care so as to not inflame the situation and sentiments of the people of these lands.

We're awfully sorry to inform the Government of Serenierre of the facts that it is impossible to forbid Carnival in Eiffelland without imposing draconic measures that even medieval rulers would hesitate about, that the Carnival Associations responsible for the floats in the cavalcades enjoy a complete Narrenfreiheit (i.e. the freedom to make a fool of everything you want without consequences) during Carnival, that this Narrenfreiheit is even guaranteed in laws, and that even Eiffellandian officials and even the Eiffellandian Royal Family are subject to the kind of jokes that were made about Serazin (and sometimes even worse jokes). We're awfully sorry, but we cannot stop the Eiffellandians to make such jokes during Carnival. And more in general, given the freedom of opinion, our hands are quite tied in the case of jokes about politiicians.

Dassau Flugzeugwerke introduces revolutionary helicopter design

A spokesperson of the Eiffellandian aerospace company Dassau Flugzeugwerke announced today that it introduces a helicopter with an up to now revolutionary design. Everybody knows the helicopter as having one big rotor and a small sidewards rotor at the tail. The new helicopter from Dassau has two main rotors, one in the front and one at the tail. These rotors turn in opposite directions. The result is an extremely stable helicopter, also in extreme winds.
Furthermore, it has a larger centre of gravity, which is important for when a load has to be hanged under a helicopter. A single rotor helicopter can only carry one load under it, which has to be hanged exactly under the centre of gravity; furthermore, the weight of the load has to be spread evenly over the complete load. This all is less important for a helicopter with two main rotors, or as it is called a tandem rotor helicopter. The centre of gravity of this type of helicopter is larger and more longitudinal. As a result, several loads can be hanged under it, and as an additional advantage, those loads do not need to have the weight evenly spread.
Dassau Flugzeugwerke also announced that the Eiffellandian armed forces have been testing ten prototypes of this helicopter over a long period of time. They were officially part of the Army, but Army, Navy and Air Force all tested it out. The helicopter appeared to have extremely good characteristics for rescue actions at high sea. As a result, the Navy baptised this helicopter the Wellenritter (wave knight). Dassau decided to use this name as well, so this helicopter will be known as the Wellenritter.
The Wellenritter is a small helicopter, with capacity for maximum 4 passengers and 200 kg freight, or 600 kg freight, but its design has much potential. Dassau Flugzeugwerke indicated that it is working on two larger versions of this helicopter, to be introduced in the 1960s (Wellenritter 2 and Habicht).

Government announces trade agreement with Telora

During his weekly press conference, Chancellor Von Seydewitz indicated that the Government had negotiated a trade agreement with Telora, comprising tariff reductions, the simpification of customs procedures and mutual recognition of patents. The Chancellor emphasized that this trade agreement will benefit both countries and will tighten the relations between "two democratic states". The Staatstag and Staatsrat will vote over the trade agreement in the coming week.

Government decides to send humanitary aid to Borovanger and Cumbria

During his weekly press conference, Chancellor Von Seydewitz indicated that the Government of Eiffelland has decided to send humanitary aid to Borovanger and Cumbria. "Both countries are currently in a devastating civil war, in the case of Borovanger with many parties involved. Humanitary crises are imminent in both countries. We cannot lean back in our chairs and watch how those crises unfold. We will prepare food packages and provide medical aid to the people of both Borovanger and Cumbria," Von Seydewitz indicated.

King opens Trierer Stadtring

It took several years to construct it, but today King Albrecht officially opened the Trierer Stadtring, the motorway around the larger city centre of Trier. The Stadtring was built on the outside of he Hundekopf (the dog's head), the S-Bahn railtracks that surround the larger city centre of Trier. It was constructed as a 2x3 lane motorway in preparation for a future amount of automotive traffic that is considered to be larger in the future than it is at present. Bridges, viaducts and tunnels were designed and constructed in such a way that a future extension to a 2x4 lanes layout would be possible. The Trierer Stadtring got the motorway number A100. The speed limit on this motorway will be 100 km/h on working days between 6am and 7pm, and 130 km/h between 7pm and 6am during the weekends and on public holidays.

Government announces measures against Serenierre

Today the Government announced a set of measures against Serenierre as a consequence of the crisis with the three Pelasgian journalists, who are still imprisoned despite numerous requests to set them free. A spokesperson of the Chancellery indicated that the measures are partly the same as the ones imposed by Pelasgia: “We will impose a 25% tax on imports from Serenierre, as well as an export ban to Serenierre of certain goods we consider a security risk. This ban includes weaponry and items that can be used to create advanced weaponry. Furthermore, it will become more difficult to citizens from Serenierre to obtain visa for Eiffelland, with the exception of political refugees and people from Burgundian descent.”
This package of measures has to be approved by the Staatstag and the Staatsrat. The spokesperson of the Chancellery indicated that this process will start this week.
There was already a policy in place to check citizens from Serenierre and people traveling from Serenierre more thoroughly than other people; this policy will be continued.

Commissariat of People's Deputies

The People's Republic is amazed by the attitude adopted by the Government of Eiffelland with regards to the arrests and trial of the three Pelasgian citizens who have been subjected to due process and a fair trial - as evidenced by the presence of the Teloran Ambassador. By imposing such arbitrary measures on Sereniérre is disrespecting the honor of the legal system of the People's Republic, which is a genuine and free legal system, and these actions reveal the immaturity and complete disregard for diplomacy or the law in Eiffelland.

While the Commissariat laughs at the notion that Serenierre is dependent on a country such as Eiffelland for its defensive and offensive weaponry. Furthermore, we shall impose a complete ban on the export of raw materials and manufactured goods to Eiffelland. The People's Republic shall also scale down its diplomatic presence in Trier from an embassy to a Consulate. The Commissariat, furthermore, shall issue an official démarche against the presence of hostile naval assets in the Thaumantic sent by the Trier regime.

We have full confidence in the legal system of Serenierre in the sense that it follows the Serenierrese laws. However, this whole trial against these three Pelasgian journalists looks like nothing more than an avenge expedition against journalists who published something about events occurring in Serenierre that the Government wanted to keep a secret, for whichever reason.

The recent descision to impose an embargo on Eiffelland does not leave us an alternative to reciprocating Serenierrese measures against Eiffelland. We are currently extending the law that will go to the Staatstag and Staatsrat for ratification. The new law will also contain the scaling down of the Eiffellandian Embassy to a consulate, which will also take care of any business interests of Eiffellandian companies in Serenierre. We are currently calling Ambassador Heinz-Otto Plöger back to Eiffelland.

We strongly advise all Eiffellandian citizens currently in Serenierre to leave the country as soon as possible. We trust the Government of Serenierre to allow a safe passage out of the country to all people with other nationalities than Serenierrese who are currently in Serenierre and wish to leave.

As we informed you several times, our carrier fleet in the Thaumantic Ocean is on a humanitary mission. It contains too few vessels to carry out an invasion. The only reason why it contains a carrier is the fact that it serves as a platform for helicopters; our medical vessels cannot contain the number of helicopters we are currently deploying during this humanitary mission. We strongly advise you to leave it unharmed.

Public Statement

19th of April, 1957
To whom it may concern.

The Empire would like to officially congratulate the Kingdom of Eiffelland
on its public and clear display of respect and promotion of liberty, human rights and solidarity between allies the world over. In passing these sanctions, at quite a considerable cost to its own mercantile activities, the Kingdom has reaffirmed the sound reasoning behind the absolute trust the Pelasgian people have placed on the folk of Eiffelland. In reiterating its thanks, the Empire would declare that until such a time that Serenierre releases the illegally detained and arrested journalists currently awaiting trial for a crime they did not commit and until it lifts its preposterous and illegitimate sanctions on the Kingdom of Eiffelland, Pelasgia shall never lift its own sanctions against Serenierre. With regard to the Eiffellander humanitarian mission in Borovanger, the Empire not only applauds this initiative, but clearly states that Propontis will stand by Trier no matter what in this affair, as we are certain all members of the Trier Concord shall.

Signed and Sealed,

Ikaros Dragases

Minister of Foreign Affairs

We thank the Government of Pelasgia for its support in this matter. We will also couple the lifting of our sanctions against Serenierre to the release of the three journalists and the lifting of Serenierrese sanctions against Pelasgia. And of course to the lifting of Serenierrese sanctions against us.

The Prince-bishop, worried about this situation, wants to help to cool down tensions.
With full trust in Serenierre law and order, he offers the transportation of those journalists to a Markenese prison, to be detained untill fully served their time.

Staatstag and Staatsrat approve sanctions against Serenierre

This morning the Staatstag approved the sanctions against Serenierre with 356 against 144 votes. This afternoon it was the Staatsrat's turn, which voted in favour with 134 against 66 votes. The KPE voted against to support the radical Socialist Government of Serenierre. The Pazifistische Reformpartei (PRP) voted against, because it considered the package of sanctions "yet another step on the slippery slope towards war". The SPE voted against, indicating that "severing the diplomatic ties with a country is a very drastic measure" and "not all diplomatic means have been exhausted yet in this crisis". The left-liberal LDP countered this argument by saying that "an enormous amount of international pressure to release these three journalists has been imposed to Serenierre, and not only by Pelasgia and Eiffelland" and "patience must always be large but can never be inexhaustible; Eiffelland has shown enough patience".

The sanctions against Serenierre are in effect from today onwards. They consist of the following:

  • A 25% tax on imports from Serenierre.
  • An export ban to Serenierre of certain goods considered a security risk, including but not limited to weaponry and items that can be used to create advanced weaponry.
  • The Eiffellandian embassy in Villesen will be reduced to a consulate, which will also take care of any business interests of Eiffellandian companies in Serenierre.
  • The procedure to grant visa for Eiffelland to citizens from Serenierre will become more complex due to the addition of checks needed to be done, and more difficult due to limiting the reasons why a visum can be granted and limiting the number of visa to be granted to Serenierrese; political refugees from Serenierre, Serenierrese citizens married to Eiffellandian citizens and Serenierrese citizens from Burgundian descent are exempt from this measure.
  • The amount of time that Serenierrese citizens can stay in Eiffelland will be limited to 14 days; diplomatic staff, political refugees from Serenierre, Serenierrese citizens married to Eiffellandian citizens and Serenierrese citizens from Burgundian descent are exempt from this measure.
  • Serenierrese will be obliged to indicate their sojourns during their stay in Eiffelland; indicating a false adress will lead to immediate withdrawal of the visum; a change of sojourn after entering Eiffelland has to be announced to the police as soon as possible, even at night, which is possible in the larger cities, because the police headquarters there are open 24 hours a day; political refugees from Serenierre, Serenierrese citizens married to Eiffellandian citizens and Serenierrese citizens from Burgundian descent are exempt from this measure.
  • Serenierrese citizens married to Eiffellandian citizens will be offered Eiffellandian citizenship if the marriage was either solemnized in Eiffelland before 20 April 1957 or recognised by the Eiffellandian Government before 20 April 1957, to avoid that families are disrupted due to the measures listed above.

The last point was originally not part of the measures to be taken, but was added during the Staatstag session as a result of a motion issued by the Partei für das Christliche Leben (PCL). The coalition parties CDV and FDV agreed to adding this point to the law. After this amendment was applied, the law was passed in the Staatstag. The Staatsrat approved it afterwards, together with this amendment.
