The Commonwealth welcomes the decision by the Eiffellandian government concerning the institution of same-sex marriage in the country, and congratulates the standing Eiffellandian government for the decision to effect this step.

However, we note that the extension of adoption rights for same-sex couples would undoubtedly serve as a logical extension of this Eiffellandian policy.

Regards,
Mr. William Fenner,
Minister of External Affairs,
Commonwealth of Cornavia

We thank the Cornavian government for their congratulations. We are currently investigating the possibility to give same-sex couples adoption rights as well, but we considered it important to be a bit faster with the same-sex marriage.

This stands for everything that we abhor and find so wrong in our so-called 'modern society' that praises filth, sodomy and buggery.

It is obvious this Eiffellandian prince is mentally and morally ill and should be cured of his cancerous filth, than be celebrated. Eiffelland, like our own nation, is rotten and ruled by depraved and licentious scum.

The Government of Fulanistan is excited to hear that Eiffelland has decided to allow Same-Sex Marriages. We have only recently allowed Same-Sex Marriage, and we feel it is important for all countries to recognize the rights of every citizen.

We thank for the positive reactions, but please don't be too early with the congratulations. The Staatsrat and the King still need to approve the same-sex marriage.

Staatsrat approves same-sex marriage

After the Chancellor answered some questions about the international consequences of the same-sex marriage, the Staatsrat voted in favour with the smallest margin possible: 101 against 99. The law will be presented to the King next week.

"King signed immediately"
Same-sex marriage reality in Eiffelland

Yesterday the King signed the law opening the civil marriage to same-sex couples. Eiffelland will become one of the first countries in Europe where gays and lesbians can marry. Within a couple of weeks, the mayor of Trier will marry the first same-sex couples.
According to polls, about 70% of the Eiffellandians agree with this law, although 60% consider it a mistake that the right of adoption was not granted to same-sex couples. The political leader of the Volksunion, Günther Ziesche, indicated that he is considering to divorce under Eiffellandian law and remarry in another country, because the Eiffellandian civil marriage has no value any more according to him. Similar opinions are heard more often among people favouring the Volksunion. Conservative Catholics disapprove the same-sex marriage as well.
The new Eiffellandian legislation on marriages does not have any consequences for Church marriages. Chancellor Graf von Seydewitz indicated that the Church marriages are a matter of the Church and not of the Government, and that only the civil marriages are a matter of the Government. He also indicated that other countries should decide for themselves whether they will recognise Eiffellandian same-sex marriages or not. "Eiffelland is Eiffelland; abroad is abroad. We introduce the same-sex marriage because we consider it the right thing to do, but we are not going to force it upon other countries," he said.
Many people were wondering if the King would sign this law. His father, who even blocked the legalisation of homosexual intercourse before the age of majority during the last 20 years of his reign, would certainly not have approved it. One of the first deeds of the current King was approving what was blocked by his father. It seems that King Albrecht is radically breaking with his father's views on social issues. Eiffelland seems to be making a fast turn from a conservative country to a very liberal country, although the Eiffellandian people were already more liberal than the Eiffellandian legislation.

The Empire welcomes this step by the government of Eiffelland and hopes that it will work towards the strengthening of the national identity of those that now benefit from this legislation.

Supreme Chancellor Faust strongly disagrees with this notion. Hopefully the mistakes of this nation will not catch on.

Medical breakthrough in Charité
New heart valve implanted via neck vessel

A 72 year old man got a new hart valve implanted via a neck vein. This operation took place in the Charité in Trier three weeks ago. According to a spokesperson of this hospital, it was the first time worldwide that this operation was carried out this way. During the operation, the old valve between the right heart atrium and the right heart ventricle was pushed aside and the new heart valve was implanted. Normally, the thorax of the patient needs to be opened for this kind of operation, but now this procedure was not needed.
The patient in question had undergone several heart operations during his life. Because he was too weak to undergo another thoracotomy, it was decided to try this new technique. He went home after two weeks. Currently, he is in a good condition.
Hospitals in Eiffelland experiment with this kind of surgical techniques more often. Recently, physicians of the university hospital in Köln repaired a heart valve via a vessel in the shoulder. Furthermore, aortic valves are often replaced via a vessel in the groin.

Breakthrough in cancer-research
Immune therapy against skin cancer

Last Thursday, a young scientist, Thomas Wolff, obtained his Ph.D. degree at the Robert Koch Universität Weissenfels for his research in oncology. He discovered that a certain form of skin cancer, melanoma, can be treated by artificially causing a different kind of skin disease: Vitiligo, a skin disease causing the loss of pigmentation of the skin. This is an auto-immune disease, i.e. the body's own immune system reacts against the pigment cells in the skin. It appears that this immune response also works against melanoma cells.
Dr. Wolff carried out his investigations on mice. Clinical research needs to be carried out to find out if this therapy can also work in humans. Dr. Wolff will continue his investigations in Weissenfels.

We appluad Eiffelland for these multiple health breakthroughs, and our Ministry of Health wishes to know if it will be sharing these breakthroughs with other nations across the world? Maybe Freiheit could send a few doctors to observe your methods?

Despite the differences between our countries, the progress made in the field of medical science by physicians in Eiffelland impresses us as much as the rest of the world. We would be happy to exchange knowledge and experience between the medical professionals of Carentania and Eiffelland, if there is any chance to do so.

On the longer term, we will of course share these breakthroughs, but we want to gain experience with new techniques ourselves before we can teach others how to work with them. However, it is always possible for physicians from foreign countries to come to Eiffelland for exchanging knowledge and participating in clinical trials.

Our university hospitals cooperate with our like Novartis, Medtronic and Eppendorf.

If the Eiffellandian Government is willing to accept the Breotish Royal Navy would be willing to render assistance to the Eiffellandian relief efforts in Aquitaine and the former state of Freiheit. We can provide tracking information for all naval and air assets in the area as well as logistical support. Ships for escort can be granted as required. Pending your acceptance we will announce your mission to be under the protection of the Royal Navy so as to deter any unpleasant confrontation or interference with your cause.

Attached is contact information for Vice Admiral Preston Cole who is commanding the Carrier Battle Group Shadow of Intent which has responsibility for the area.

Carentanian Government: “Talemantines attack Carentanian troops”
War in former Akhaltsikhe about to escalate

With claims by the Carentanian government that Talemantine troops should have attacked Carentanian troops, the situation in former Akhaltsikhe is becoming more and more tense. Currently, an escalation into an armed conflict between Carentania and Talemantros is a possibility to take into account. The Talemantine Government denies that attacks against Carentanian troops by Talemantine troops took place. According to spokespersons of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, it is unclear whether a Talemantine attack against Carentainian troops really took place or not.
Meanwhile, sources in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs rumour that the Government is considering to start discussions about ties with the leaders of the Jurzani Movement. Those sources suggest that the Government considers the presence of the Jurzani Movement to be “a fact” and designing the future of former Akhaltsikhe without the Jurzani Movement to be “unthinkable and impossible”. An official statement by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs indicates that “the Talemantine Government should understand the spirit behind SC Resolution 13 with regard to the future of Akhaltsikhe, and should act according to that spirit”.

“They could have been a bit lenient in this case”
Govenment displeased about Hajrer actions against Catholic mourners

During his weekly press conference, Chancellor Graf von Seydewitz indicated that the government was displeased about the Hajrer actions against Catholic mourners. He said that the government understood the concerns about the public peace, security and order, and that Eiffelland itself also often reacts harshly against illegal demonstrations, but that in case of extraordinary circumstances lenience should be in place, and that the death of a leading figure of a religion is such an extraordinary circumstance. “It would have been a different situation if the Hajrer police would have limited their actions to handing out fines for disturbing the peace afterwards. But somebody mourning for the death of his religious inspirator is a different kind of person than a football hooligan. The Hajrer police should have taken that into account.”

“Straight parents or same-sex parents have no effect on children’s well-being”
Cabinet planning to allow same-sex couples to adopt children

After investigations showed that there is no difference in well-being between children raised by straight couples and children raised by same-sex couples, the government is planning legislation to allow same-sex couples to adopt children.
Directly after the current government took power, an investigation on this matter was started. This investigation looked at cognitive performances, psychic functioning and social well-being of the children, and corrected for differences between children possibly due to other causes than the composition of the parental couples raising them. The investigators collected data in Eiffelland (where already quite a lot of children live and lived with same-sex parents for several reasons), but also abroad if allowed by foreign authorities. No differences between children raised by straight couples and children raised by same-sex couples were observed during the investigations.
