Princess Laura pregnant

Today a spokesperson of the Royal Family announced that Princess Laura, Crown-Prince Friedrich's wife, is pregnant. The child is expected to be born around the beginning of June. Up to now, the soon-to-be mother is in good health. She and her husband are looking forward to their future parentship. The Royal Family is delighted with this good news.
Currently the Crown-Prince and Princess live in Weissenfels, but they plan to move to Trier in September, after the renovation of Schloss Schönhausen has been finished.

Elections in the Harz

The political parties in the Harz are campaigning intensively for the provincial elections in March. Traditionally, this province is a stronghold of the Christian parties in Eiffelland. The CDV, Chancellor Graf von Seydewitz’s party, traditionally gets between around 35% here. The other Christian political party, the PCL, has a relatively strong basis here as well, with currently 6%.
The first action of the new provincial parliament will be voting for the 20 candidates that will represent the Harz in the Staatsrat. In theory, that could lead to the loss of the current national coalition’s majority there, but that would only happen if the coalition looses 20 seats in the provincial parliament of the Harz. It is widely expected that that will not happen. Shifts in seats are expected, but not that dramaticly.


Government concerned about current events in Long Sea

During his weekly press conference, the Chancellor talked the Government’s concerns regarding the events in the Long Sea. “The actions by the Padanian Government regarding their terrritorial waters are absurd and condemnable. Extending the limit of their territorial wates to 50 nautical miles goes against international law and centuries-old conventions. That is something we will never recognise. We consider the recent arrestments of Lorrainians and Judeans illegal. But our largest concern is the recent upscaling of the alert levels by the Padanian Government. The only way its armed forces can go is north. To Lorraine. The Padanian Government should realise that Lorraine is an ally of Eiffelland.”
On the Carentanian plans recently presented, he said: “The safety in the Long Sea is a concern to both the Carentanians and us. It is needed that we start discussions with the Carentanians about the safety there.”

Train accident near Marburg

This afternoon an intercity with about 500 passengers on board collided with a freight train 20 km outside of Marburg. Up to now, 350 passengers were rescued, of which 150 had to be transported to hospitals. There are still survivors in the train. The death toll is still unknown.

Ash Wednesday in Eiffelland after Carnival

The last 4 days was the time of the year that Eiffelland is practically closed. Carnival is celebrated extremely here, to such an extent that there is always a small baby boom 9 months later, and sometimes it is questionable whether the legal father is also the biological father. Carnival is also the time of the year that makes beer brewers and vineyard owners happy.
But that was until yesterday. Today is Ash Wednesday, the day that all Eiffellandians go from the pub straight to the church to get an ash cross. Today the fasting time before Easter starts. During this time, the Eiffellandians don't drink alcohol, don't put sugar into their coffee and tea (if they normally do so), and don't eat sweets, cake or chocolate. The older Eiffellandians even eat their bread without anything on it. Only the Sundays between Carnival ans Easter are no obligatory fasting days.


Elections in the Harz next Sunday

Next Sunday, it is Election Day in the Harz. All political parties are campaigning at the top of their abilities to convince the voters. The polls predict losses for the Christiandemocrats and the Sociodemocrats, while the Greens and the Socioliberals are gaining votes.

Provincial elections in the Harz
Shift to right wing in Eiffelland's mountains

With the results of the provincial elections in, it appears that the Harz made a shift to the right wing of the political spectrum. The concervative Christian PCL and the extremist rightwing VU are the winners of the elections, while the Christiandemocratic CDV and Sociodemocratic SPE are the loosing parties. These are the results:

CDV: From 35 to 32 seats.
SPE: From 26 to 21 seats.
FDV: From 20 to 21 seats.
SLU: From 5 to 6 seats.
Grünen: From 4 to 5 seats.
PCL: From 6 to 9 seats.
KPE: Keeps its 2 seats.
VU: From 2 to 4 seats.

Polls suggest that the CDV lost quite some votes to the PCL, and that both the CDV and the FDV lost votes to the VU. On the other hand, the CDV and the FDV gained some votes from the SPE and the SLU. The votes lost by the SPE went to the SLU, the Grünen and the CDV. Although the current provincial government appear to be quite popular out of the polls (causing the shift from the leftwing parties to the coalition parties), the people moving to the PCL and the VU indicated in the polls that they wanted to give a signal to the national coalition regarding the introduction of the same-sex marriage last year.

The most important results of these elections are, that the coalition currently governing the Harz (CDV and FDV) can continue, and that the national coalition (also CDV and FDV) keeps its majority in the Staatsrat. However,the political leader of the CDV indicated that it would not be completely business as usual for him: "We still lost three seats. We must make sure that we win them back next time. We will investigate this loss and take appropriate action."

Schloss Charlottenburg switches to biological food

Today a spokesperson of Schloss Charlottenburg indicated that several suppliers of biological food have been appointed Royal Warrant Holders. The reason for this step is to promote the use of biological food. The suppliers in question are not able yet to cover deliveries for receptions and banquets at the Palace, but they are working to get those logistics under control. The daily food need of the Royal Palace, however, can be covered by these suppliers.

Solaris cult and Solaren put on list of terrorist organisations

After several assaults on Dominican Catholic and other Christian churches in Eiffelland, as well as some assaults on mosques, the Government decided to put the Solaris cult and the State of Solaren on the list of terrorist organisations. The recent events in Nicosia and Aquitania are also a reason for this decision. As a result, membership of the Solaris cult will be punishable with at least five years imprisonment. All current members of the Solaris cult in Eiffelland will get the opportunity to abandon this cult until 1st May; before this date, no punishments will be applied for membership of this cult. All possessions of the Solaris cult in Eiffelland will be seized, including worshipping symbols. All Solaris possessions in Eiffelland, which had already been frozen, will be seized.

Bomb explodes in Trierer underground station

This morning around 8:15, a bomb exploded in the Trierer underground station Friedrich von Dietzdamm, situated in one of Trier's richest quarters and under one of Trier's most important shopping and nightlife areas. Because this station is a crossing of two underground lines, there are always quite a lot of people there during rush hour. Nine people were killed and 20 people severely injured during the explosion. The complete underground station has been closed for the public and will remain closed during the forensic investigations and damage repair.
At this moment, it is unclear who is responsible for this terrorist attack. The responsibility has not been claimed yet. People are speculating about Solaris responsibility for this attack, although that would be unexpected because of the current period of inactivity in that country that started about a month ago.


The strange inactivity in Solaren

During several decades, "Solaren" has become synonym for "irrational and unreasonable madness". The last horrible deed by the Solaris regime was the kidnapping of 4000 Nicosians, for whom the Nicosian government had to pay an enormous ransom to get them free. The Solaris regime had already started to kill the first hostages before the sum was paid.
The last reported action by the Solaris regime was a concentration of troops along the Lorrainese-Solaris border, forcing the EDF to send troops to that border as well to defend Lorraine if necessary. Also Eiffelland mobilised large parts of its armed forces. Currently the complete Eiffellandian navy has been mobilised and is patrolling the waters between Solaren, Eiffelland and the Papal States, and together with the Franconian and Lorrainese navy also the waters between Lorraine, Coronado and Solaren. Furthermore, a large number of land troops has been mobilised as well.
But now something strange has happened in Solaren. To be more precise, the strange thing is that nothing has happened in Solaren for a month. Normally, the Solaris government is always good for an idiotic comment on international events, but nothing has been heard out of Torrence for at least a month. And especially Eiffelland provided a good list of reasons for such comments from Torrence, after expelling all Solaris citizens out of Eiffelland, seizing all Solaris assets in Eiffelland and putting the Solaris cult on the list of terrorist organisations. But nothing was heard.
Reports from the Lorrainese-Solaris border tell that the Solaris troops are still there but look like they have been frozen. Intelligence reports about the inside of the country indicate the same: The complete country looks like it has been frozen in a certain position. People inside the military are already talking about the Solaris Freeze. It is unclear what has happened in this country. People are still investigating it.

Bomb explodes in shopping area Ingelheim

In the early afternoon, a bomb exploded in the shopping area in Ingelheim. 20 people were killed, 100 people were injured, among which 40 severely. The responsibility for this assault has not been claimed yet. A link between this assault and the one of last week has not been found.
