Hello! I've just joined this region and it seems pretty cool. I'm 16 years old and I live in Washington. My nation is Ayyubistan, a middle eastern/Islamic based country. Its culture is meant to be a mash up of several middle eastern cultures such as aspects from Iran, Arabia, and Turkey. Its government is influenced heavily by religion, although Ayyubistan is not completely a theocracy.
I look forward to being a part of you community!

Welcome to the forum! Your nation idea sounds very interesting and would be great for our region.

Welcome, Ayyubistan :) Another Islamic nation here, next to Zanzibar ;) Islam is getting big here ;)

For your question regarding important things you need to know, normally Bourgogne would tell you about it. Now I take the opportunity to quote him:

Hi guys :) i'm 27 and i've been involved in nation roleplaying for about 10 years.

My plan is to roleplay a post-civil war nation, Nova Srbja, vaguely (not so vaguely after all) based on the events after collapse of a "federation" (aka some sort of jugoslavia). Novo Srbja ("Republika Nova Srbja", Republic of New Srbja) can be considered an "almost failed state". A decade long civil war has almost turned the small landlocked country into a post-apocalyptic landscape. Institutions have only been recently restored. They struggle to keep a resemblance of order in the country, which seems to be drifting into a loophole of economic recession and poverty due to inefficient bureaucracy, crumbling and severely damaged infrastructures, high crime rates, an underfunded and inefficient law enforcement, an army in disarray, extremely high inflation, political sectarianism, a worrying public deficit aswell as an absurd public debt, mostly caused by military spending, corruption and poor management of the economy.

My task as Head of State (i will be roleplaying HoS Filip Vlahovic, President of the Republic) of Nova Srbja will be national reconciliation, the reconstruction of infrastructures, dealing with the massive influx of displaced civilians from the countryside to the capital city, all while protecting the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution of the Republic of Nova Srbja

Nova Srbja is a multi-party parliamentary republic. It adheres to universally recognized human rights, international laws, rejects war as an instrument of aggression and as a mean to settle international disputes. On paper, Novo Srbja seems to be recovering from the deep social and political wounds caused by the civil war. In reality, the society of Novo Srbja is extremely sectarian. Young Nova Srbjans forgot the reasons that sparked the civil war. Survivors tend to justify the actions of the faction they supported during the war, by blaming other factions for starting the conflict in the first place

The leaders of the warring factions may have settled their disputes after the peace conference in Banja Luka (the capital city) a few months ago, but many of the leaders of the former militias involved in the conflict are not willing to give up their influence and de-facto political power gained after so many years of war in the areas they previously controlled. According to the Ministry of Interior, most of the weapons used during the conflict have not been recovered by the National Gendarmerie (a recently reconstructed national police force, largely untrained, unequipped and underfunded), suggesting that some of the groups involved in the conflict are still seeking to obtain political hegemony of the country with war, rather than participation in parliamentary politics.

Welcome! It seems the moment we lose one Serb, we get ourselves another ;) A few notes though; it would be a good idea to change your name to something other than that of a country existing in real life. International law and human rights are also in a weird limbo in our world, since there is not UN-like body or really codified body of international law that countries can adhere to. Other than that, your concept seems fine and very interesting!

Hello,

First, my name is Olivia Abernathy, and I am the Commonwealth's acting Liaison to Europe. I will be representing the Commonwealth in most matters in the European community.

Second, I will introduce the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth of Novum Lux is a constitutional monarchy, organized in a parliamentary democracy, comprising of ten Provinces, who hold no autonomous power. Each Province has the same number of constituents, and is divided further into ten Districts, who have some local autonomous powers, and who are also divided equally by constituents. The Charter was rewritten this year, establishing a new government, taking away much of the monarch's powers, and abolished Provincial governments.

The nation's bicameral parliament consists of a Senate and Assembly. The Senate is comprised of one elected Senator from each Province. The Senate consists of one Assemblyperson from each of the one hundred Districts in the Commonwealth. The head of government in Novum Lux is the Prime Minister, elected every ten years, who appoints various ministers to oversee day-to-day operations of government and to advise the Prime Minister. The monarch and head of state in Novum Lux is Queen Anne II, who ascended to the Crown only days ago, following the death of her father His Royal Majesty King James I. The monarch serves for life or until abdication, but has little power in the government.

Much of Novum Lux is heavily forested. Southern Novum Lux is predominantly agricultural, with increasing forest coverage northward. Mountains and hills are dominant in the west.

I hope that this is the start of a great adventure. I'm sure we have plenty to offer this grand community, and you'll certainly be seeing more of me.

Peace be with you,

Olivia

Welcome! It's good to have a diplomat from another region, especially if they're participating in our RP!

You must be mistaken. I am the Liason to Europe from my nation's government, not from a different region.

Hello, new here. Mostly here to have context for world building (ie, where the heck is my nation actually, who is around it, and how does that affect things and give it history?). I'm not necessarily the most active of RPers, but I should be getting better over the summer as I'll "only" have work and not work and school and internships eating up my time.

Just to clarify on the rules, is nuclear power, both civilian and maritime, permissible (after appropriate RP)? I don't have any plans for either at present, but I just want to make sure I don't end up accidentally run afoul of it later on.
