Banja Luka

The Ministry of Culture and Sport and CBS Chess are proud to announce Grandmaster Miss Milica Živković has taken Game Five against Herr Wilhelm Keith.

On white, Herr Keith opened by setting up his usual Retalian offense. In a change from her previous play, Miss Živković opted to open her defense with Tiburan Shield, confounding Herr Keith's attack. As the game progressed, Miss Živković sacrificed to exploit an opening in Herr Keith's defense. In a dramatic blunder, Herr Keith attempted to seal the breach, a move that allowed Miss Živković to checkmate his king.

After the game, Miss Živković had this to say, "just as I thought, I had been playing too conservatively the last few games. That changed and we saw the result."

Herr Keith leads Miss Živković three games to two in the best of twelve test match.

A Ministry of Information graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman sitting at a desk and looking smart in a red blouse. She is all business as she arranges her papers and then looks up at the camera.

"Good morning, Comrades. And now the news.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a trade deal is being finalized with the Republique Seraziniste de Serenierre. The deal includes export quotas on Crotobaltislavonia's agricultural goods in exchange for credits towards military exports from Serenierre. The final details of the deal are to be released next week.

"Also making news this morning, reaction to the constitutional amendments released for study yesterday continues. Hardcore Otpor League partisans are up in arms at what they see as a loss of control of the government. Farragoists are also upset as they see the amendments undermining their candidates' positions in next month's elections. Crotobaltislavonia's minority parties, the Free Jewish Coalition and Twents for Crotobaltislavonia, have praised the amendments and pledged their total support in upcoming National Assembly debate.

"In a moment, I'll be live with Dr. Elizar Montepelier of the European School of Thought. We'll be discussing the growing quote counter-revolution unquote that is welling up within Otpor's youth wing. But first, a word from United Plum and Raspberry Growers of Crotobaltislavonia."

The Anti-State welcomes recent signs of detente from Banja Luka, importantly recognizing the reality of forced deportations and the announcement by Secretary Stojanovic to cease these activities. We will continue to monitor the integration of Jewish life into the political framework of Crotobaltislavonia and encourage the continued development of a robust multi-polar civil society that can incorporate the plurality of viewpoints of the various constituent groups of Crotobaltislavonia.

A young Slavonian man is sitting back in an overstuffed leather armchair with one leg thrown over the other. He is wearing a dark blue suit and brown brogues. In a matching chair is a tall and overweight Slavonian man. He is leaning forward with an air of menace, one balled fist held in his other hand. He is dressed in a foreign tailored brown suit with brown dress shoes.

After a moment of silent conversation with his guest, the Slavonian reporter looks at the camera. "We continue our conversation with our guest this afternoon, Boban Gavrilovic, leader of the Association of Pochenkoists political party. Mr. Gavrilovic, you were telling me that Crotobaltislavonia needs a return to the quote old ways unquote. What do you mean by that?"

"Everyone knew their place in the old days because the true Dear Leader Boris Pochenko knew best for everyone. It wasn't like that jagoff Farrago or those Otpor idiots who can't decide to keep the Yids around or not. We had direction. We had leadership."

"Now, the Pochenko regime is known for its widespread corruption, it's ties to the Nekmet criminal syndicates..."

"Ne sviraj kurcu! It's all lies so they could send Boris and his boy to early graves. Those bastards were jealous and they wanted a piece for themselves."

"So you are denying having any ties to Nekmet?"

"I'm not here to talk about that and you know it. I got nothing more to say to you, govno yedno."

Gavrilovic stands up and stalks out of the shot.

"Good afternoon, Comrades. And now the news. It has been almost a week since the draft constitution was announced. Analysis, opinion, and rumor continues to circulate. Today, the rumor is that Victoria Emerson, the former queen who remains in exile in neighboring Elben, may soon reenter the political arena as a candidate for the Presidency. When contacted to confirm or deny, Ms. Emerson's representatives in Banja Luka said quote Her Majesty will only return to sit on the throne unquote.

"At this morning's press briefing, the a spokesman for the State Political Administration said the Border Control Unit and the Border Guards will soon begin preparations for dismantling the Zones of Control along the border with the Fleurian Republic. The spokesman said quote the Free Canton is trying to accomodate Fleurian sensitivities unquote and that if all goes well, the State may consider removing border controls elsewhere along the frontier."

A young Slavonian woman is sitting on the edge of an overstuffed leather armchair with one knee neatly folded over the other. She is wearing a chic, black skirt suit with a white undershirt, and black high heels. In a matching chair is an elderly Slavonian man with a head of thick grey hair slicked back and large glasses. He too sits at the edge of his chair with an air of earnestness bordering on desperation. He is dressed conservatively in a dark grey suit and tie with black dress shoes. Most prominently, the old man is holding a large, framed picture of a young man looking sharp in the uniform of the State Political Administration.

After a moment of silent conversation with her guest, the Slavonian reporter looks at the camera. "We return to our interview with candidate for President, Edvinus Seskus. Comrade Seskus, whose picture are you holding?"

"My boy's."

"Why? Has something happened to him."

"He was a policeman, doing important work for the Motherland. I heard from him regularly. And then, the calls stopped. A short time later, I was informed my son had been killed in the line of duty. When I asked for more information, none was forthcoming. That is why I run for President, to find out what happened to my boy."

There is genuine heartache on the Slavonian woman's face. "Oh... Comrade, why aren't you running on a party ticket? Why run unaligned?"

"Even though the new constitution will strip the president of much of his powers, the parties would expect me to toe the line. No, I run for myself and my boy. I must know what happened. I will not go to my grave without knowing. You cannot imagine the anguish at home, my wife and I knowing we outlive our boy." Tears begin to stream down the old man's face.

The Slavonian woman reaches across and puts a hand on the old man's arm and squeezes. "Let's take a break."

A Ministry of Information graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk in front of a live feed from Red Square in Banja Luka. The woman has her blond hair in a tight bun and she is wearing a white turtleneck sweater and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry's theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"One week to election day and Crotobaltislavonia's field of candidates for the Presidency, for all of the seats in the National Assembly, and ultimately for the Premiership is set. Standing for the Presidency are Edvinus Seskus, no party affiliation; Lihi Hodiah of the Free Jewish Coalition; and Victoria Emerson, of the Alliance to Restore the Monarchy.

"Parties that have registered for election to the National Assembly include: the Otpor League, the League of Farragoists, the Association of Pochenkoists, the Free Jewish Coalition, the T Alliance - Twents For Crotobaltislavonia, the Rally for Minority Rights, and the Europe First-Green Party.

"Of course, the Premiership will depend on how the election for control of the National Assembly turns out. Party leaders who are expected to garner enough support in the Assembly to challenge include: Eduard Frei, the T Alliance; Boban Gavrilovic, the Pochenkoists; and Yevheniy Musayev, Otpor.

"In other news, the Air Force has released footage of its first class of jet pilots flying donated trainer aircraft on an exercise over the K3 Air Base. The pilots and their warplanes conducted interception drills and then practiced close air support in cooperation with Army forward air controllers..."

A Ministry of Information graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk in front of a live feed from Red Square in Banja Luka. The woman has her blond hair in a pony tail and she is wearing a black button down and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry's theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"The final weekend before nation-wide elections and campaiging is reaching a fevered pitch."

Cut to a video of Prime Minister Musayev speaking to a crowd. "We buried the hatchet with Fleur. Things are settling down in the west as our neighbor and friend Elben takes its rightful place in the congress of nations. In the east, prosperity is taking root as Crotobaltislavonia forges its own path. Comrades, Otpor is leading the way!"

Cut to a video of party leader Eduard Frei addressing reporters. "Otpor can try to take credit for the motherland's good fortune this year. But Otpor cannot deny the motherland is still a police state that chooses winners and losers. Otpor cannot deny there are still thousands of externally and internally displaced citizens waiting to return home. And Otpor cannot deny it refuses to guarantee the future of the Yids and Jews of Crotobaltislavonia."

Back in the studio. "In the latest opinion poll, Otpor continues to hold a ten point lead over its nearest rival. However, that lead would not secure a majority in the National Assembly and it has eroded since the last poll a week ago.

"The seven men and three women arrested for the New Year Protest returned to court this morning for the beginning of their trial for protest without permission. In his opening speech to jurors, the First Deputy District Procurator for Banja Luka calmly explained the nature of the protest, the proofs against the defendents that the State has collected, and the harms the protest has brought on society. The defense advocate is scheduled to speak this afternoon.

"Before the break, the State Political Administration is reporting security in Orlitz-Slavonia will be increased ahead of Monday's election. The SPA has received intelligence that renegade former-Defense Minister General Alexander Radek and his cell of hardcore antisemite fighters are planning an attack during the election. The SPA reports that all polling stations in Orlitz-Slavonia will be protected by armed police with security forces on stand-by."

The Free Canton of Crotobaltislavonia is aware of the recent confrontation in the Retalian Sea. The Free Canton encourages all parties to restrain their more base instincts, engage with their neighbors to ensure a peaceful conclusion to the conflict, and to then work to secure that peace afterwards for the good of all the Europe.

"Peace is never long preserved by weight of metal or by an armament race. Peace can be made tranquil and secure only by understanding and agreement fortified by sanctions. We must embrace international cooperation or international disintegration."

A Ministry of Information graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian man and woman standing by. The Slavonian woman has her blond hair in a braid that is pinned over the crown of her head. She is wearing a royal blue sleeveless dress, matching heels, and a gold necklace. The Slavonian man is wearing a navy blue suit and tie and grey leather shoes. On the screen behind them is footage of Prime Minister Musayev and his wife casting their ballots, illuminated by the quick flicker of camera flashes. When the Information Ministry's theme concludes, both journalists look up from arranging their papers and the woman begins speaking.

"Information Ministry live coverage of 'The Motherland Chooses 2019' continues. As we saw earlier, the candidates have already voted. Prime Minister Musayev is now holed up in the Presidential Palace behind a security cordone. The other notable candidates are at various secure locations in Banja Luka and around Crotobaltislavonia, awaiting the result with their supporters."

The man says, "turnout is reportedly already heavy in the east, with long lines of citizens waiting to vote in Olnitz, Krasrilevke, and other cities and towns. Here in Banja Luka, observers call the turnout steady, but anticipate many more voters later after the end of the work day."

The woman says, "the State Political Administration is giving hourly security updates. In the update of eleven AM, the SPA spokeswoman announced there have been no outbreaks of violence against or among voters in the Motherland. However, the SPA reports there have been gunfire exchanges between Slavonian and Yiddish forces in Orlitz-Slavonia. District OMON units have been deployed to pacify the clashes."

The man says, "it's a chilly day in Banja Luka at eleven degrees outside. And the forecast is calling for increasing clouds. We'll have a full report on the weather and how it's expected to effect voter turnout, after a break."

The woman has her blond hair in a pony tail and she is wearing a black sweater and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry's theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"Banja Luka is geared up for a mass of inaugurations tomorrow while fallout from last Monday's shock election results continues."

Cut to video of Sobel, a gangling Jewish woman with dark frizzy hair and glasses standing in front of a bunch of microphones. "I have just come from a meeting with Prime Minister Musayev and Generals Kruten, Križ, and Milojević. They have assured me that the transfer of power tomorrow will be peaceful and without complication."

Cut to video of Eduard Frei speaking with a reporter. "I will take my case all the way to the Supreme Court if I have to. We'd have beaten Otpor if the Jews hadn't stabbed us in the back. We had a deal and they broke it."

Cut to video of Lihi Hodiah. "Yes, its true the Free Jewish Coalition made a last second realignment with Otpor and the Pochenkoists. But only because of Otpor's last second leadership change. We felt our position in the Assembly would be stronger than with the Twentes."

Cut to video of Victoria Emerson. "They stole the election from Us, just like they stole Our throne and murdered Our husband years ago. We will go back to Elben where We and Our loyal supporters will redouble our efforts of restoration."

Back on the young Slavonian woman in the studio. "More election-related news, Banja Luka Police continues to investigate the deaths of presidential candidate Edvinus Seskus and his wife. The Seskuses were found dead this afternoon by their local priest who was curious about their absense from morning services. Police have not announced details, but they say it is looking more and more like a murder-suicide.

"After the break, we go live to Red Square where preparations are being completed for tomorrow's ceremonies. And we will have a report from Orlitz-Slavonia. Is General Radek dead or alive?"

The man is looking smart in a dark blue suit and tie. He is all business as he arranges his papers and then looks up at the camera when the theme concludes.

"Good afternoon, Comrades. And now the news.

"The National Assembly has been installed. The first order of business was electing a Prime Minister. As expected, Dr. Rachel Sobel, the new leader of the Otpor League, was elected by a coalition of Otpor, Pochenkoist, and Jewish Alliance deputies.

"After Dr. Sobel's election, the National Assembly turned to a proposed Law of Return for the many Crotobaltislavonian citizens who have been deported to Polesian. Debate has been quote lively unquote as the Assembly weighs the moral imperative of bringing Crotobaltislavonia's Jews home versus the cost of re-integrating them into society.

"After her election as Prime Minister, Dr. Sobel travelled to the Presidential Palace to meet with Lihi Hodiah moments after the latter had been sworn in as President in front of thousands in Red Square. As observers and members of the press stood by, President Hodiah formally requested that Dr. Sobel form a government. Afterwards, the two women conducted closed-door talks for over an hour.

"As control of the Free Canton shifts, the business of State goes on.

"The Air Force announced this morning that it's first group of pilots have completed their familiarization with the Air Force's new aircraft and are ready for assignment to the operational conversion unit for additional training. The Air Force also announced that it has classified the identities of Crotobaltislavonia's pilot corps as top secret.

"The State Political Administration announced it is suspending the dismantlement of the Zones of Control along the western border. The spokesman cited the change in circumstances in Crotobaltislavonia's western neighbor as the reason for the reversal in policy. The spokesman did say that the SPA's Border Control Unit will continue to explore loosening regulations to facilitate a more open border and ease of movement.

"In other news, ex-Prime Minister Musayev's culture program has begun to bear fruit. The General Staff has announced the formation of the Army Riding School. Recruitment of trainers and riders from Army personnel is ongoing and may soon be opened to civilians. Negotiations with the Kingdom of Elben has finalized a deal that will bring Elbener experts to the new Riding School to train and advise. The Riding School's first shows are not expected until late this year at the earliest.

"And finally, closer to home in Banja Luka, the Banja Luka District Procurator has announced that Marko Radana Zima will go to trial later this month. Mr. Zima is accused of assassinating Deputy Prime Minister and Free Jewish Coalition leader Melchol Tirzah earlier this year. The District Procurator and Banja Luka Police have stated they believe the killing was motivated of Mr. Zima's rabid anti-semitism stemming from military service during the war in Trivodnia. Mr. Zima's family remains adamant that he has never held anti-semitic viewpoints and that he is a not a violent man. The District Procurator has not ruled out seeking the death penalty in the case."

The Ministry of Culture and Sport and CBS Chess announces that Game Six between Grandmaster Miss Milica Živković and Herr Wilhelm Keith has ended in a draw.

On white, Miss Živković's opening was a tentative Slavonian turtle. Herr Keith began the game with his usual Retalian offense. As the game progressed, Miss Živković was able to adjust and employed Thibault to slowly and skillfully dismantle Herr Keith's attack. The players exchanged the initiative several times until reaching an endgame with Miss Živković having the advantage. However, Herr Keith once again showed his mastery of the board by taking the game to a draw, ending with only a bishop and his king.

After the game, Miss Živković had this to say, "even a draw, I feel this was my most complete game thus far. Keith does not frighten me in Game Seven."

Herr Keith leads Miss Živković three games to two, with one draw, in the best of twelve test match.

A Ministry of Information graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk in front of a live feed from Red Square in Banja Luka. The woman has her freshly cut blond hair styled in spikes and she is wearing a black button down that is provocatively unbuttoned and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry's theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"Prime Minister Sobel has announced the reform of Crotobaltislavonia's security apparatus."

Cut to video of Sobel: "Banja Luka Police has been assisting. Their investigation has uncovered things ... disturbing things. Last night, I ordered the arrest of Colonel-General Yevgraf Kruten. Today he will appear before a court and be charged with the murder of Colonel Virginijus Seskus. Other charges may come as the investigation continues."

The Slavonian woman in voiceover: "there has been pushback from the State Political Administration."

Cut to video of Igor Bounin: "this is a surprise to us. The charge against General Kruten is unfounded. The service appreciates the Prime Minister's interest. And we admit, there have been mistakes. But Prime Minister Sobel's charges of corruption and wrongdoings are flights of fantasy. Everything that has been done has been in the service of the State and the Motherland."

The Slavonian woman in voiceover: "Prime Minister's Sobel's security reform has been getting reaction in the National Assembly. Minority Leader Eduard Frei had this to say."

Cut a video of Eduard Frei: "I applaud Ms. Sobel. I thought it was a mistake to put ZAP and ZOD under a single umbrella organzation; it has only invited abuse. The National Assembly will want to hold hearings and decide on the best way forward."

"Good afternoon, Comrades. And now the news.

"General Yevgraf Kruten has appeared in court and been formally charged with Murder, Betrayal of the Public Trust, and Crimes Against the State. All three charges carry the death penalty. Both the Public Procurator's Office and General Kruten's defense team declined to set a trial date, opting instead to take some time to inspect the massive amount of paperwork and other evidence that Banja Luka police detectives are still taking out of SPA headquarters.

"Prime Minister Sobel was at the National Assembly this morning to discuss the SPA situation with Assembly leaders. After the meeting, the Prime Minister had this to say.

Cut to a video of Sobel: "the Minority Leader and I did not discuss details. But we are in total agreement that the SPA should be broken back up. This could happen very quickly when the final decision is made."

Back on the Slavonian gentleman in the studio: "Prime Minister Sobel is expected to meet with leaders of the 'Mothers of the Disappeared' organization later today to discuss the issue of SPA and police reform in Crotobaltislavonia.

"In other news, military exercises are underway on the border with Lars. Special Forces and Border Guards have been drilling and practicing against each other out of sight of Information Ministry and independent cameras. This should change tomorrow when regular Army armored units arrive on the border for a day of maneuvers against each other.

"Coming up, more news out of western neighbor Bourgogne. And we'll show you a sneak preview of the Information Ministry's exclusive interview with Grandmaster Milina Živković."

Though it was still an Information Ministry broadcast, it was just like CBS News again.

It was the Slavonian blonde, her hair undone and wearing a simple sweater. "We return to our breaking story out of Banja Luka. Banja Luka Police is now confirming eighteen dead, including two first responders who came into contact with the poison before hazmat could arrive. All of the dead have been identified. Three members of the Prime Minister's staff are known to have survived the assassination attempt. Two have been accounted for. One is still missing."

Flip over to the Slavonian male, his button-down rumpled and his tie loosened. "Banja Luke Police is now looking for this woman," a picture of Linoy Lichtman appears over the man's right shoulder. "Linoy Lichtman is twenty-five-years-old. She said to be one point six three meters tall, brunette hair, strong Yiddish features, and busty. If you have any information about her whereabouts or any information regarding the assassination attempt, call 1-800-CBS-INFO immediately."

Back on the Slavonian blonde. "The Information Ministry is still unable to confirm Defense Ministry speculation that the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Sobel was in relatiation for alleged Crotobaltislavonian participation in the recent unrest in the Kingdom of Justosia....."

A Ministry of Information graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk in front of file footage of a column of tanks moving down a dirt road. The woman wears her short blond hair slicked back, a black suit coat, and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry's theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"Prime Minister Sobel made her first public appearance after Thursday's assassination attempt."

Cut to video of Sobel: "we must not lose our heads. There is little evidence at this point and the search for the Lichtman woman continues. We must continue our investigation before drawing any conclusions. I stress, we are not at war with Justosia. At this time we do not consider Justosia a threat."

Back on the Slavonian woman in the studio: "the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with National Assembly minority leaders tomorrow. The assassination attempt, the continued belligerence from Justosia, and possible diplomatic missions to Auraria and Pelasgia are expected to be the main topics.

"In related news, jury selection for the trial of Marko Radana Zima will begin Monday morning. Mr. Zima is accused of murdering Deputy Prime Minister Melchol Tirzah earlier this year. Despite desperate pleas from family and friends, Mr. Zima has refused to plead guilty in exchange for a guarantee of life imprisonment. Mr. Zima continues to deny the charges and says he has been framed by the State. The Banja Luka District Procurator and Banja Luka Police refused to comment on that accusation.

"Sports is up next. We'll have live coverage of what commentators are calling the Countdown to Doom, the heavyweight bout between the challenger Kubrat Szántó and the number one contender, Slobodan Kopitar. We'll also have an update from Elben where chess heavyweights Milica Živković and Wilhelm Keith continue to circle each other ahead of Game Seven."
