The young Slavonian woman is standing in front of a graphic depicting a cross section of Mine Number Two. She is now wearing a charcoal colored blazer and trousers.

"IMN has recieved confirmation that there are survivors inside in the mine. Rescue workers have heard tapping sounds but have not yet made contact with the miners. Judging from the strength of the taps and the reported last location of the miners, officials believe any survivors are trapped at the third rescue point.

"Rescue workers have been working nonstop for over eight hours and they are tiring. With the recent expansion of Crotobaltislavonia's coal fields in the west, mine safety infrastructure has lagged and officials have begun to draft untrained military personnel to enter the mine and continue operations while rescuers rest. The military personnel will have to work slowly to avoid making the accident worse and putting themselves in greater danger.

"Family members have been allowed to congregate closer to the mine to avoid the travel time from Bublava. A tent city has been erected to shelter loved ones as they wait for news. Volunteers and supplies have begun arriving at the mine site from across the Motherland."

Ths Slavonian woman looks at the camera and says, "comrades, thank you for your generosity," before bowing deeply at the waist.

Official Announcement
Ministry of Culture and Sport
Banja Luka

The Ministry of Culture and Sport and CBS Chess are proud to announce Grandmaster Miss Milica Živković has taken Game Seven against Herr Wilhelm Keith.

Starting on white, Miss Živković stunned Herr Keith by opening with a masterful Retalian offense, Herr Keith's trademark strategy. Miss Živković continued to press a relentless attack with elements of Thibault, keeping Herr Keith off-balance and unable to mount an effective defense. By the endgame, Miss Živković had material advantage and only needed to chase and checkmate Herr Keith's king.

After the game, Miss Živković had this to say, "Anything can happen. But as we enter the second half, I have seen his play and I know his game. I am confident that I have the advantage over Herr Keith."

Herr Keith and Miss Živković are now even at three games all, with one draw, in the best of twelve test match.

Banja Luka Police Bust Up Underground Fight Ring
Last night, Banja Luka Police visited a warehouse in the Tenth Quarter in response to noise complaints. Expecting to find a rave with dozens of drug-addled teens, the responding officers were surprised to find dozens of men watching and cheering as two of their comrades engaged in a brutal bare-knuckle fist fight. Police and back-up quickly moved in and broke up the fight. After detaining and interviewing several of the men, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.

Blood stains at the fight have been found to be of varying age and Police believe testing will find that the blood is from numerous individuals. One police official said, "BLP believes this kind of thing has been happening for awhile now, probably beginning in Orlitz-Slavonia during the war and brought back by the vets. And its not just in Banja Luka. All the other cities as well. Probably going to get really bad with the 'fugees coming together to work on the roads and the dam."

A Ministry of Information News graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk. Behind her plays footage of a police station on fire. In the foreground of the footage are several bodies covered with blood-soaked sheets. In the studio, the woman wears her short blond hair in a topknot, a black bandage dress, and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry News theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"Good afternoon, Comrades. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is Information Ministry News."

The pictures shifts to a side shot as Ajda rotates to face the new camera. Over her shoulder appears an outline of Bourgogne covered by crosshairs.

"Crotobaltislavonia is responding to the outbreak of violence in Bourgogne. Prime Minister Rachel Sobel gave a press conference this morning during which she said quote Jewish, Orthodox, Twentish, Tiburan, all of us send our thoughts and prayers to those affected by the attacks in Bourgogne yesterday unquote. Prime Minister Sobel also said Bourgogne has full access if the Motherland's emergency services and supply caches as needed.

"After the Prime Minister's press conference, Chief Cabinet Secretary Radomira Stojanović spoke to reporters to detail Crotobaltislavonia's response at home. The response will include an audit of security measures, a review of all recent intelligence, updates of emergency disaster plans, and consultations with the Grand Duchy of Lars."

Ajda shuffles her papers as a picture of miners carrying a bodybag appears over her shoulder.

"Also making news, in the wake of the Ugalj Coal Mine Number Two disaster, Recovery efforts continue. The State is now listing three hundred and five confirmed dead with another fifty-six still unaccounted for. Last night, the National Assembly, meeting in extraordinary session, approved the creation of a new mining authority, approved the creation of a State-sponsored mining guild, approved stringent new regulations, and approved the creation of a fund to compensate the widows and orphans of the disaster.

"Coming up next, an IMN First Look where I'll ask Banja Luka Police Commissioner Perko just how widepread these underground fight rings are in Crotobaltislavonia. I'll be back in one hundred and eighty seconds."

A Ministry of Information News graphic appears on screen and immediately fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk. Tonight the young woman wears her blond hair in a bun, a black sweater, and a gold necklace.

"Good evening, Comrades. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is an Information Ministry News breaking report."

The camera pans right a bit and over Ajda's shoulder appears a map of the border between Crotobaltislavonia and Lars.

"Moments ago, the Defense Ministry announced snap exercises will take place in less than forty-eight hours from now. The exercises between recently allied Crotobaltislavonia and Lars are in response to growing instability in northern Gallia and an increasingly expansionist Gunnish-Elbenese bloc. During the exercises, each country's military will simulate an attack so that other may test its readiness and practice defensive plans in a war-time environment.

"The Defense Ministry's release gave further details. The Grand Duchy of Lars is expected to utilize all or some elements of its Manuever Force which consists of one mechanized division, one light division, and two independent brigades. The Free Canton of Crotobaltislavonia is expected to utilize all or some elements of its III Corps which consists of two armored brigades, two motorized brigades, and a mountain brigade.

"Police units on both sides of the border are already alerting civilians in the exercise area and advising them on proper quote war-time behavior unquote to make the exercises as realistic as possible. No live ammunition will be fired away from already established army bases and gunnery ranges. Any damage done to civilian property as the military units maneuver cross-country will be compensated for by the units' parent government.

"More on this story and the other news of the day at the top of the hour."

A Ministry of Information News graphic appears on screen and immediately fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk. This morning, the young woman wears her blond hair neatly combed down, a white sleeveless blouse, and a gold necklace.

"Good morning, Comrades! It is sixty-four degrees and overcast in Banja Luka. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is an Information Ministry News update."

The camera pans right a bit and over Ajda's left shoulder appears a picture of a female Crotobaltislavonian soldier arm-in-arm with a male Larsian soldier.

"This morning, the last Crotobaltislavonian and Larsian troops crossed the border to their home countries after exercising together over the last four days.

"Sources within the Defense Ministry are telling IMN that the Supreme Military Council is completely satisfied with the results of the practice operations with Lars; confidence is high that not only can the army defend the Motherland, but that operations across borders would not end in another Polesian fiasco. The Council has also received glowing reviews of the Larsian army's professionalism, training, and equipment. One source said to IMN quote the Council told Prime Minister Sobel to feel very secure with Lars on our southern flank unquote.

"Last night, the exercises concluded with a series of friendship celebrations all along the border between Crotobaltislavonia and Lars. Both soldiers and civilians were in attendance.

"Coming up next, I will speak with Dr. Elizar Montepelier about the growing threat next door in Bourgogne. I'll be back in one hundred and eighty seconds."

Bad Blud Kills Over A Dozen Addicts
Beltizni EMS responded overnight to a rave where at least a dozen teenagers were poisoned by contaminated Blud. This is now the second such incident in under a week in Orlitz-Slavonia. Beltizni and regional police have confirmed a Blud supply mixed with industrial strength drain cleaner was recently distributed to the public. Local police, supported by experts from Banja Luka, are backtracking the bad Blud supply as quickly as they can. However, the poison's users are either dead or hospitalized in serious condition and have yet to identify their dealers.

Defense Ministry Finalizes Tank Design

Engineers at Tank Plan Plant #1 are finalizing Crotobaltislavonia's first domestic tank design. The design of a new tank was given priority after Kadikistan went into isolation. Ministry of Defense spokeswoman Veronica Renate Anselmetti recently said that, "it has been decided the Motherland can no longer rely on Kadikistan as the sole source of our defense. We shall look elsewhere for the more advanced weapons. And we shall try to build our own armaments with off-the-shelf technology."

Will The Three Gorges High Dam Hide Mass Graves?
The Mothers of the Square joined the Crotian Gypsies in Red Square today adding their voices against the the Three Gorges High Dam project. While the gypsies claim the dam will destroy the Crotian ancestral homeland, the Mothers of the Square are saying the dam is a part of a government conspiracy to hide the graves of disappeared persons. During her daily press conference, Chief Cabinet Secretary Radomira Stojanović denied the accusations, saying that the High Dam project has been in the works for over a decade, crosses many governments of differing ideologies, and its benefits for Crotobaltislavonia are clear.

Fight Rings Connected To The Blud Trade

Banja Luka Police is now saying it's investigation into a ring of "fight clubs" has discovered that the fighters are enhancing the violence against each other by using Blud. Testing of various unique blood samples taken at the recently discovered fight club in Banja Luka have revealed the presence of the illegal drug. Blud is known to cause its users to enter a homicidal berserker frenzy and lash-out indiscriminately against anyone close-by. Banja Luka Police is now looking at Nekmet ties to the fight clubs.

A Ministry of Information News graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk. Behind her plays footage of Prime Minister Sobel speaking, looking grave. In the studio, the woman wears her blond hair in braids pinned up, a tailored navy blue button-down, and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry News theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers and begins speaking.

"Good evening, Comrades. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is Information Ministry News."

The pictures shifts to a side shot as Ajda rotates to face the new camera. Over her shoulder appears a still of PM Sobel with her fist in midair.

"Prime Minister Rachel Sobel went before the National Assembly this morning to personally submit a bill that would create a new military service with police powers. The move comes soon after several police teams were lured into ambushes that have left over two dozen police officers killed or wounded. While addressing the National Assembly, the Prime Minister stated that the ambushes are the work of rogue security agents who have sold their services to Nekmet and that this new escalation in violence must be met in kind.

"The National Assembly began debating Prime Minister Sobel's bill immediately. Boban Gavrilovic, party leader of the Association of Pochenkoists, urged restraint until the National Assembly can make a full study of the facts. Eduard Frei, party leader of The T Alliance - Twents For Crotobaltislavonia, stated that the bill has merit, but that Twentish and other minority citizens would need assurances before they supported a new security force. Despite the resistance, a vote is expected as soon as next week."

Ajda shuffles her papers as a CG picture of a main battle tank appears over her shoulder.

"Also making news this Friday, the budget battle between Crotobaltislavonia's Army and Air Force continues to heat up. At her daily press conference, Defense spokeswoman Veronica Renate Anselmetti publically acknowledged that the deal to purchase warplanes from Serenierre has fallen apart and that Kadikistan's air defense umbrella over the Motherland is doubtful at this point. Experts are calling the admission a strategic move by the Air Force to garner support and money for another effort to purchase foreign aircraft. The Army did not reply to IMN's emails by this evening's newcast.

"Coming up next, an IMN First Look where I'll ask Banja Luka Police Commissioner Perko if dissolving the State Political Administration has done more harm than good for the average comrade. And now a word from our sponsor, Cadre Cola. I'll be back in one hundred and eighty seconds."

A Ministry of Information News graphic appears on screen and immediately fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman standing on a sidewalk as a stream of people march behind her. This morning, the young woman wears her blond hair in a pony tail, a white long-sleeved t-shirt under a dull green buffer vest, low-rise blue jeans, and a gold necklace.

"Good morning, Comrades! It is a humid sixty-six degrees and overcast in Banja Luka. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is an Information Ministry News update."

The camera zooms in on Ajda as she glances at her notes. Looking back up, she says, "this morning, large numbers of Crotian Gypsies began an unannounced march from Red Square to Novi dvor where the National Assembly continues in session. Banja Luka Police on the scene responded immediately and reinforcements, including riot police, arrived within twenty minutes. However, the march has been peaceful with no violence reported and no arrests made."

The camera zooms out again as Ajda begins walking, joining the march. She catches up with a young gypsy man. He's dusky, has long hair, and hasn't showered in a while.

"Ajda Resnik, IMN. What's your name, Comrade,"

"Abel."

"Comrade Abel, what are you marching for? Why are you here?"

"So that they know we're alive, that we have a voice. The Crotian nation won't stand by while they try to diminish us even more than they have. Even other minorities like the Twents, the Yids, the Tiburs, they all want to drown our heritage for their own gain. Sobel is a power-hungry bitch."

"Thank you, Comrade Abel." Ajda smiles and slows up to let the man pass. As she continues walking with the stream of people up the street, she says, "the Crotians have promised the march will remain peaceful. But they have also vowed that they will be heard when they arrive at Novi dvor. It's rumored Crotian Assemblywoman Veres will demand to speak to the Assembly once her people have arrived outside. Is a showdown brewing in Banja Luka? Stayed tuned for further updates on this breaking story."

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Free Canon of Crotobaltislavonia has always been the first in line to defend a nation's sovereign perogative. And now the Free Canton must approve of the belligerence of the western powers towards Justosia. In spite of its hubris, Justosia has been called to account. Such are the ways of sovereignty, ways that are good and just. Perhaps now Justosia will learn a simple truth of both nature and international affairs: there is always a bigger fish.

Sobel Meets Gypsies
Outside of Novi dvor, as thousands of Crotian gypsies looked on, Prime Minister Sobel met with Assemblywoman Veres. After Veres delivered her people's demands, the Prime Minister suggested a compromise: a system of State-sponsored gypsy parks across Crotobaltislavonia and a gypsy reservation in Orlitz-Slavonia in exchange for approval of the Three Gorges High Dam. Sobel also reminded the gypsies they would have plenty of time to move relics and such before the dam is completed. Veres promised the Prime Minister her people would discuss the compromise.

Army Proposes Taking Over Police Mission
The National Assembly continues to debate the measure to create a new military-style national security force. The measure is now drawing fire from the Army, the Air Force, the Border Guard and the Coast Guard. The established military services claim a new force would cannibalize their own budgets and diminish their ability to defend the Motherland. In comments made public this morning, Army Chief of Staff General Gašper Križ proposed that the Army take over the domestic special operations mission instead of creating a new force.

Border Guards Gain Support For Tactical Mission

In an unexpected turnabout, Eduard Frei, party leader of The T Alliance - Twents For Crotobaltislavonia, is now suggesting that CBS's internal tactical mission be given to the Border Guard service. Assemblyman Frei cited the Border Guards' recent joint operation with police forces from the Grand Duchy of Lars that resulted in the arrests of four heavily armed fugitives. Frei said, "this is the kind of intelligent and cooperative agency that my people would feel comfortable with taking over such a sensitive mission."

Gypsies Refuse Compromise
Also speaking in the National Assembly this morning, Crotobaltian Assembianwoman Kincső Róza Veres refused to accept Prime Minister Sobel's proposed compromise to end the Gypsie protests over the Three Gorges High Dam project. In her speech, Veres denounced the Prime Minister, calling her a "bitch" and a "whore" "whose only interest is protecting the Yiddish-Slavonian political syndicate." Otpor deputy leaders in the Assembly immediately called for Veres' censure.

A Ministry of Information News graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk. Behind her plays footage of beautiful horses charging through an open field. In the studio, the woman wears her blond hair in a loose braid laying over one shoulder, a black button-down under a grey vest, and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry News theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers, smiles, and begins speaking.

"Good morning, Comrades. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is Information Ministry News Morning Report."

The pictures shifts to a side shot as Ajda rotates to face the new camera. Over her shoulder appears a still of a black stallion suspended in mid-stride.

"The Army Riding School has finalized its roster of riders. While civilians were allowed to try out for a coveted place in the school, all of the personnel chosen are Army veterans with experience training and riding horses. The chosen riders will begin training immediately with the Lipinzer horses under the supervision of experts from Elben.

"In related news, the Ministry of Culture reports that the State ballet and symphony are progressing and should make their debuts no later than the end of the year.

"The State Board of Infrastructure announced that modernization of Highway One will commence next Monday morning. The project will add lanes to Highway One, increase the amount of signage along the highway, and make all access points controlled. The Highway One project is seen as a pilot for the superhighway corridor that will connect Gunnland with Lars. Highway One is currently the Motherland's major north-south route connecting Elben, Foca, Banja Luka, Novi Grad, and Lars.

"This morning, the National Assembly's first order of business was approving Eduard Frei's plan for the Border Guards to take over the domestic special operations mission in Crotobaltislavonia. Counter-terrorism personnel will be seconded from the Army to the Border Guards effective immediately and the Border Guards' new unit should be stood up in the next few days.

"Banja Luka Police reports that the price of Blud is already beginning to rise.

"The Gypsie Crisis took a turn this morning. The First Cuirassiers, the Motherland's ceremonial cavalry unit, passed through Red Square during their weekly ride though Banja Luka. The Cuirassiers have been avoiding Red Square this month to prevent escalating the crisis. The Gypsies are already calling the encounter a show of force meant to intimidate the protestors. The Prime Minister's office and the Army declined to comment.

"Coming up next, an update from the Southern Ocean Crisis where Justosia has gone ominously silent. Our panel of experts decide if the Justosians are preparing to attack or composing their surrender. I'll be back in one hundred and eighty seconds."

Official Announcement
Ministry of Culture and Sport
Banja Luka

The Ministry of Culture and Sport and CBS Chess are sad to announce that Miss Milica Živković was defeated by Herr Wilhelm Keith last night in Game Eight of their test match.

Starting on white, Herr Keith opened with his usual Retalian offense. Miss Miss Živković attempted an Ivar Charge and was able to win material advantage. However, Miss Živković lost her advantage by making a Farrago's Folly, opening a comeback for Herr Keith in the endgame. Herr Keith was able to recover his queen and checkmated Miss Živković's king.

After the game, Miss Živković had this to say, "my opening was clumsy. I have done better against Herr Keith and I shall do so again."

Herr Keith leads Miss Živković four games to three, with one draw, in the best of twelve test match.

"In a voice vote yesterday evening, the National Assembly approved its move back to the White House. The Assembly reoccupied the White House earlier this year, but had to vacate the building after asbestos was discovered. The toxic building material has since been removed. The move back to the White House is expected to take at least a week. Assembly business will not be disturbed in the meantime.

The still disappears and the camera centers on Ajda.

A Information Ministry News graphic appears on screen with brass fanfare. The graphic fades to reveal a young Slavonian woman seated at a desk. Behind her is a live shot of Red Square in Banja Luka, still filled with gypsies, their carts, and their garbage. In the studio, the woman wears her blond hair in buns covering both ears, a baggy white dress with sleeves, and a gold necklace. When the Information Ministry News theme concludes, she looks up from arranging her papers, smiles, and begins speaking.

"Good morning, Comrades! It is seventy-nine degrees and sunny in Banja Luka. I'm Ajda Resnik and this is Information Ministry News Morning Report."

The camera shifts to the right. Over Ajda's shoulder appears a still of a group of gypsy boys and girls smiling.

"It is has now been almost eight weeks since the Crotian gypsies began their occupation of Red Square, protesting the Three Gorges High Dam, which when completed would submerge Crotian villages and heritage sites in the Slava valley. And the protests are getting stronger. Banja Luka Police now estimates that over two-thirds of Crotobaltislavonia's gypsy population is in Banja Luka. One source in the Police said quote they have the uncanny ability to live off the land, even in the city unquote.

"After a meeting with President Hodiah last week, the gypsies have announced that no understanding was reached and renewed their demand that the Three Gorges project be terminated. They are now also demanding that the Crotian homeland be made a national preserve under Crotian jurisdiction. Over the weekend, President Hodiah had this to say."

Cut to a clip of the President wearing a mannish white suit and tie. "The Three Gorges project will go on. But aside from that, all options are on the table. There are many avenues left to explore here."

Back on Ajda in the studio. "In other news, sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are telling IMN that a serious breach with Kadikistan has developed. The sources are saying that over the weekend, Prime Minister Sobel and Kadikistani First Secretary Moravscik exchanged notes that immediately cooled the Crotobaltislavonian-Kadikistani relationship. When asked about affairs with Kadikistan at her morning press briefing, Chief Cabinet Secretary Radomira Kristina Stojanović said that Kadikistani troops continue to defend the Motherland and that Crotobaltislavonia's own forces remain in a peacetime posture.

"Responding to an email from IMN, Dr. Elizar Montepelier, expert on Crotobaltislavonian affairs at the European International School of Thought replied that the Free Canton could expect nations throughout Gallo-Germania to reach out for a redefinition of relations in light of a break from Kadikistan.

"Coming up next, Pochenkoist party leader Boban Gavrilovic has proposed extending the Law of Return to Slavonians living in Bourgogne and IMN takes a First Look at the economic and political ramifications of the Motherland accepting a wave of these refugees from abroad. I'll be back in one hundred and eighty seconds."

BREAKING: Gunnland-Elben-Bourgogne Axis Source of Concern
Prime Minister Sobel and her cabinet are currently meeting at the Presidential Palace to discuss the Holy Tiburan Empire. The reformation of a Tiburan superstate in northern Gallo-Germania has been cause for concern in Banja Luka for some months now. In the last twenty-four hours, Elben has formalized its membership, forcing Prime Minister Sobel's government to decide on policy towards the superstate. Sources within the Presidential Palace are mum on what is being discussed. Outside observers are saying the break with Kadikistan is looking more and more short-sighted on the Prime Minister's part.

Larsian Monarch Meets With Gypsies

Yesterday, Grand Duchess Isabella I of Lars met with Gypsy leaders behind closed doors. Details of the meeting have not been released. But today, cracks have begun to show in the unity of the Crotian movement in Red Square. A new leadership group has stepped forward promising that progress is being made and that a resolution to the Three Gorges High Dam crisis could come very soon. President Hodiah is expected to meet again with gypsy Assemblywoman Kincső Róza Veres, who up until today has been the face of the gypsy protests. The two women are expected to discuss the Slava valley becoming a national preserve.
