Government responds to recent events. Condemnation for Angliarique; Aid for Rio de Oro
  • Ana Isabel Gallego responds to recent events
  • Aid to the government of Rio de Oro continues
  • Ebria condemns weaponization of civilian ships
The government of the United Kingdom of Ebria, Nuoria and Hamrun has issued a series of statements which will function as guidelines of external policy in the future, as the world wide security has all but collapsed with the beginning of the war between Angliarique and Tianliong as fears are high that Tarusa will to join the war against Tianlong, which will end up in a world war between the Pressburg Pact and CETO.

The government in Miramar has responded to the recent events, from the Frescanian crisis and its aftermath to the Cisnerazo and has stated that the United Kingdom will continue to be a protective brother to the Ebrianohablante (Erianophone) nations, namely Gran Occidentia, Oltremare and Rio de Oro, and it hopes that these nations look towards Ebria as an ally and a friend. The Cisnerazo has brought surprising losses for the Ebrian Legion and the Oreño Security Forces, especially as they fought against communist and islamist militias, but still, even so, President of Government Ana Isabel Gallego promised Ebrian aid, especially in training and supply, while also to keep a garrison in El Aaiun to aid the government of Rio de Oro. This does come in contradiction to the recent polls which called for a retreat from Rio de Oro of Ebrian soldiers.

In regards to the events in Frescania and the Angliarique-Tianlong issues, the government has condemned Angliarique for the militarisation of the pacified, neutral and international island of Frescania. Valls did call the Tianese attack an overkill, but the Anglian response which comes in the form of an ambush on a Tianese fleet through a missile attack that came from weaponized civilians ships. This seemed to have been something that the government in Miramar Palace went to describe as a step too far.

"The weaponization of civilian ships is something deeply immoral and illegal that we cannot forget nor forgive. We thoroughly condemn the actions of the Anglian Empire and we will do our best, within the policy that myself and my party promised to the people, that of neutrality, to still show our deep concern and anger at the way any rules based international order is being killed off by all sorts of aspirational tyrants which are ready to leave behind a legacy of blood for the sake of a few short term oportunities. Ebria will end all its trade and close all of its ports to Anglian ships and will check the goods that come on neutral ships to exclude the ones coming from Angliarique as a sanction to such inhumane reactions that break the line between civilians and military. We will not allow something like that to be accepted within the lands of the Ebrians, Nuorians and Hamrunites and will thus condemn those unscrupulous actions and invite the people to do a boycott on A glian businesses," stated la excellentisima señora, Ana Isabel Gallego, Presidenta del Gobierno.

HIS MAJESTY'S NOCHEBUENA SPEECH:
In his yearly address, traditionally given for the Christmas Eve Dinner, his majesty, King Manuel III has congratulated the people of Ebria for working tirelessly in keeping the peace around the Mediterranean and for promoting charitable actions across the world. His majesty called the government to respond strongly to any violations of the rule of God on earth and called the Ebrians to never forget the importance of Faith in their lives for it is tested in the most adverse of moments, like the ones that have been happening in the last year.

Economy reaches pre-crisis levels as the nation stabilises
  • Economy rebounds thanks to the Meridian Union membership
  • Ebrian GDP per capita reaches the 30k EM threshold
  • Government reaffirms neutrality status
The Ministry of Finances has issued the end of the year economic report showing that the national economy has reached pre-Crisis levels, from before the institutional crisis that led to the republican episode and the Ávila Accord which ended with the institutional referendum that restored the monarchy and the Crown. The neutrality proclaimed by the Darío Ríos and then continued by the new government of Ana Isabel Gallego, together with the increased trade of the Meridian Union, has given the chance for the nation to rebound after losing 5% of the GDP in the aftermath of the institutional instability crisis.

In the last trimester of the year, the nation experienced a 5.5% growth, as it rebounded with the increased trade with the Meridian Union and the institutional stabilisation. With this, the nation managed to reach again a GDP per capita of 30,000 EM, still not reaching the all time high of 32,000 from before the global issues that befell Gallo-Germania in the aftermath of the collapse of the Pannonian Republic. Even so, the economy is growing slowly but steady as the government still promises stability and peace, as Ana Isabel Gallego has reaffirmed today the neutrality of Ebria, in the aftermath of the CETO collapse, promising foreign affairs pragmatism and good relations with anyone open for business with Ebria too, from the Anti-State to the Federation of Westernesse.

The Ministry of Finances also issued a series of feasibility studies in regards to the future of the nation with the furthering of the Meridian Integration, which have shown, that should the Meridiano be launched as a common currency within the union for Radilo and Rheinbund, with an optout for Remuria, it would end up offering a growth of nearly 15% in GDP in the next three decades with the common currency. The Meridiano will offer stability and a common fiscal policy that can cement the Meridian Union stability and improve and ease the trade between the nations. A common Union bank will need to be created so that the currency policy is kept.

OTHER NEWS
MERIDIAPOL IN FORMATION:
The nations of the Meridian Union are in negotiation to form a union wide law enforcement agency that will combat international crimes such as drug and human trafficking and money laundering schemes. The formation is in the works and its proposal comes as the issue of drug trafficking within the Meridian area is increasing and becomes more and more problematic.
NEW YEAR FIESTAS PREPARATIONS: The Nocheviejas parties are in full preparation as the United Kingdom prepares for the entry into 2024. Security and Health inspections are taking place in many of the clubs around the nation to ensure that there are no problems and threats for the people.

Sebastian Valverde dead in car accident, believed to be foul play

  • Radical Republican leader found dead after he lost control of his car
  • Police investigates but believes it might be foul play
  • Local police initially stated it was a suicide
Sebastian Valverde, known for his great political activism for the revival of the Ebrian Republic, which even found success when his and Ana Isabel Gallego's United Republican Party, formed from his Social Democratic Party and her Green Party managed to win a landslide in the previous electoral cycle and pushed an institutional change that later it was seen as unconstitutional. Compared to the current President, which understood the need to legitimise the new creation with a referendum, Sebastian Valverde never accepted the Avila Accord and has continued to campaign to keep and then return the Ebrian Republic, which in the aftermath of the Institutional Referendum and the restoration of the monarchy made him one of the most hated politicians in the nation. His very own party, the Radical Republican Party failed to enter the Cortes as it did not pass the 5% threshold in the election, gaining only 2% of the votes.

Last night, driving from Ranero to Valls on Autopista 3, Sebastian Valverde lost control of his vehicle and crashed, as the vehicle rolled outside the motorway along the nearby pastures before hitting an oak tree. A fixed radar has taken notice of the ENA Sotillo SUV driven by Valverde and recorded a speed of 210 km/h as it was passing on the 2nd lane taking over a truck that was travelling at the maximum speed of 90km/h. The politician's automobile was thus travelling with nearly 80 km/h over the speed limit. It is not exactly sure how he lost control or what happened, but witnesses stated that the automobile was continuing to gain speed until it lost control, catching from behind another vehicle on the 2nd lane and to avoid it, it tried to move to the emergency lane, avoiding traffic on the 1st lane. That has been seen as the moment of the loss of control and the suv rolled outside the tarmac on the nearby pastures, hitting a tree and catching fire.

The police and emergency services have arrived on the scene in 5 minutes, but they didn't manage to do anything but stop the fire, but it was too late for Sebastian Valverde, who died in the car. An autopsy will take place and give more answers to why he died, but a theory has initially been pushed forward, that he wanted to commit suicide by organising a car crash, but in the very last moment got cold feet and when he trued to stop he did it clumsily and lost control of the car, but at the moment, the investigation has not gone in that direction.

"Yes, some local newspapers in Ranero did state that Valverde committed suicide and it was something he planned, but currently we have an investigation open and we will analyse both the remains of his automobile and the see the autopsy report. I will call out all those who push all sorts of theories to refrain, so as to not influence the investigation and will welcome them to read the news when we will publish our findings. Even so, we cannot but observe how erratic the behaviour is and in an initial check on the road cameras we can observe that there might be some issues with the automobile that behind at a certain moment. Sadly we do suspect foul play and if it proves to be real, the investigation will be taken over by the Armed Police Force," stated the spokesperson of the Guardia Civil.

OTHER NEWS
HIDALGOS LOSE THEIR PRIVILEGES:
The 1st of January comes with the most dreaded change in Ebrian law in regards to what was once the nobility of the Crown, as in the institutional referendum, the people have chosen to fully abolish the last remnants of the noble privileges, leaving behind some of the legalistic fossils from a bygone era. Starting the 2024 fiscal year (which is juxtaposed to the calendaristic year), the Hidalgos, the nobles of Ebria, lose their last remaining privilege, namely the exemption to pay income taxes. This privilege existed since the middle ages and in the modern age it was initially covering companies owned by hidalgos too, but that was stopped in 1985, when then the constitutional regime retourned and the military junta fell. Now, all hidalgos will have to pay income taxes for everything they receive financially as private persons. It is believed that this law affects about 0.7% of the population of Ebria, something which will bring to the state budget an additional 15 billion Reales.

EDICION ESPECIAL - SPECIAL EDITION

Earthquake hits Villanueva. Casualties in the hundreds as many buildings collapse

  • Initially reported at 6.7, the new estimate is that it was a 7.1 degrees on the Richter Scale
  • 35 kilometres in depth, 15 kilometres south-east of Villanueva
  • Historic buildings and hotels collapsed
The city of Villanueva has been hit by a great earthquake at the depth of 35 kilometres, just 15 kilometres from its center. The Royal Institute for Research-Development of Earth Physics has initally reported that the earthquake stood at 6.7 degrees on the Richter Scale, but a later estimate seems to have updated it to a 7.1 degree, while it has been described as violent on the Mercalli scale. While lasting for 20 to 25 seconds, it was enough to bring death and destruction in the coastal city of Villanueva and bring fears of tsunamis on the southern coasts of Bezonvaux, the island of Frescania and the northern coasts of Nuoria.

The violence of the shaking has taken everyone by surprise as infrastructure seems to have collapsed in the area and electricity and even telephone signal has all but disappeared. The authorities of the Comarca del Ocaso have activated Plan Red, the most severed of civil disaster response plans and has mobilised thousands of healthcare, firefighting and police workers to move to Villanueva, to aid the victims of the disaster. The government in Valls has quickly responded with a mobilisation of the army, to come in the aid of the disaster struck city.

With a population of 350,000, the town of Villanueva is the major port and industrial center of the Ebrian mainland west coast. Fears of a great number of casualties come from the fact that the town was the target of many scandals regarding the quality of the buildings and the preparedness in case of disaster, which seems that the local authorities and the municipality have all but ignored. With images, videos and reports coming slow as the telephone and internet connection the scale of the disaster can finally be seen with great damage in the historic quarter and even with collapsed high rises.

The government has mobilised and President Ana Isabel Gallego is now on route from Valls to Villanueva, to witness the scale of the calamity and to observe and supervise the rescue response. More than 20,000 soldiers of the Catholic and Royal Army are on the route to Villanueva to aid the local authorities which seem to be overwhelmed by the emergency.

"It is probably the greatest disaster in recent memory of such scale in the whole of Ebria. By now, water levels have risen by about 30cm in northern Nuoria so while a warning has been issued, we don't think a tsunami will follow as a catastrophic combo, but it seems that the city has been taken by surprise as the level of destruction in much bigger than we have anticipated in any of our scenarios. As of yet we expect about 200-500 deaths and about 5,000 wounded, but we will update these numbers as the night progresses. We still fear the potential replicas which might be even stronger if the tension on the rift has not gone down," stated Ana Isabel Gallego, President of the Government.

We are shocked by the news on the earthquake in Villanueva. Our prayers are with all people affected. If needed, we can send in medical teams, both military and civilian. We are also willing and prepared to receive victims of the earthquake in Rheinian hospitals.

Aftermath of the Villanueva Earthquake. Heartbreak and Resilience

  • 2,300 dead, over 7,000 wounded and about 300 still missing in the aftermath
  • Nation in shock over the violence and destruction
  • Responses from the world and Meridian Union show faith in humanity

The dust is settling over Villanueva, which has been hit by a 7.1 earthquake on the Richter Scale, with a depth of only 35km, severely affecting the ancient city of Villanueva, destroying much of its historic town and damaging about 60% to 70% of the buildings in the city. The Catholic and Royal Army and the National Police Force have quickly been mobilised and responded, aiding in the salvation of the victims from the rubble and also with the clean up process. As of yet, the 350,000 people city has been reported to only have less than 200,000 citizens still living in it, as the rest have been moved into temporary housing in Manzanares, San Sebastian and the nearby villages.

After three weeks, the government of the Comarca del Ocaso has issued its report on the earthquake, stating that the toll is of about 10,000 casualties, out of which 2,300 have been declared dead, 7,000 wounded and 300 are still reported missing, presumed to be dead. The reparation for the city has been estimated at about 4 billion Reales, which would be the equivalent of 800 million Euromarks, but with a chance of the cost to increase as surveys for the buildings declare more and more as unrecoverable.

The earthquake has took the nation by shock, as while the Villanueva rift is known for its geologic activity, which even formed the eponymous gulf, never has been an earthquake so shallow, as most of them in the past two centuries averaged at a depth of about 130 kilometres. The recent tensions in Gallo-Germania has also kept Ebria on edge and many feared that this will just add to the problems creating a generalised issue, especially as the nation went through an institutional crisis and a separatist episode in the last 3 years. Even so, now with the dust settling, the quick response of the government has pushed up the approval of the Social Liberal Party and of President Ana Isabel Gallego, while the visit of his majesty, King Manuel III and his younger sister, Queen Maria of Jysken-Ostveg have also had a positive impact. Criticism hasn't been absent, with federal investigations opened on a series of corruption cases in which the local government of the Comarca del Ocaso and the Municipality of Villanueva have been accused of receiving bribes from real estate development agencies, to ignore clear issues with the safety of the buildings.

"We must be realistic. It is a miracle that no more people have died and our heart aches for the ones who did and we stand in support, offering our condolences to the families that lost someone dear. While we grief our losses, we must also understand that a tomorrow comes too, there is a future and we must learn from the mistakes of the past. We will show the resilience of the Ebrians, we will rebuilt Villanueva to be stronger, to better withstand everything that is thrown at it. The government will release funds from its emergency crisis budget to hurry the rebuilding and also to aid the affected families. We will also want to thank the Commonwealth of Remuria and Retalia for their support and also the Federation of Westernesse for sending the Peace Corps to aid in the salvaging the victims from the rubble," stated Ana Isabel Gallego, president of the government.

The city of Villanueva is one of Ebria's oldest continuously inhabited settlements, initially built in 700BC by Pelasgian colonists under the name of Neapolis (New City). The 2024 earthquake isn't the first time it went through such a disaster, with the 1755 Earthquake completely destroying the city as it also caused a firestorm and a tsunami.

President Gallego returns to full activity after terrorist attack
Sahagún, Comarca de los Lagos (Trastámara)

Señora Ana Isabel Gallego, President of government (Prime Minister) has returned to full activity, even if she still can't use her left hand in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in the Alcazar of Valls. The attack wounded the president, his majesty, King Manuel III, who later died in hospital, and killed two generals, while leaving unscathed most of the Junta of National Security. Before the fascists started their War of Terror against the people and constitution of Ebria, President Gallego managed to move much of her activity to Sahagún, the capital of the Comarca de los Lagos, where the 2nd Army is headquartered. Returning to her work, Ana Isabel Gallego has been meeting with the generals, and also with the leaders of the democratic parties and even members of the royal house, to come with a strong, adecuate and constitutional response to the attack upon the nation by turncoats Aníbal Durán, Pedro Méndez and Infante Alfonso, which has been called by many as the unholy trinity of Ebrian politics. "The rebels are attacking Valls, but the power of the nation, of the constitution, of the legitimacy through election is with us. We are working for all Ebrians and are preparing from the north to liberate the rest of Trstámara and thus the nation. The people will not forget this betrayal coming from their own brothers and this fratricide aggression will forever be a stain on the uniform of the rebel armies," stated Ana Isabel Gallego.

Government discusses future of the state following royal betrayal

Sahagún, Comarca de los Lagos (Trastámara)
The Social Liberal Party, together with the Green, Labour and Neo-Chartist Parties, but also with members of the armed forces, civil society and trade unions. While such events would take place in person in a single area, because the majority were either caught under siege in Valls or have been dispersed for their safety it took place by a teleconference. Much of the nation seems to feel that the Ávila Accords have been violated by Infante Alfonso and General Aníbal Durán, whose insurrection, is in violation of the Accords and the constitutional status quo. The lack of a direct successor that respects the will of the nation seems to be problematic and it has been a heartbreak for many monarchists that also love their freedom and democracy. "The new head of the royal house, Infante Alfonso, has betrayed the nation. The will of the people is more important than succession and when he violates the social contract, he is all but illegitimate and unfit to rule. We are coming together to discuss to see what will come afterwards now and we will need to rethink our adherence to the Avila Accords, when the one it has been signed for, has all but betrayed us. There is no logical way to work with the Crown, when the heir to the throne is waging a war against his own citizens," stated Lucas Hernández y Castro, speaker for the CNT. The trade unions have voted to cooperate with the legitimate government and to any any striking actions, but have requested the members living in the Comarca de Valls, under the insurectionary army, go on strike and thus to block the infrastructure of the region.

Marquis of Amérida slams Infante Alfonso as ambassador to Csengia defects

Amérida, Comarca de Amérida (Baetica)
Enrique Santiago María de Sánchez, the Marquis of Amérida and uncle twice removed of the late king Manuel III and of the usurper Infante Alfonso, has released an open letter, condemning the collusion between the insurrectionary 3rd Army and Infante Alfonso. "[...] It is sad to see how this family, once so loved by the people becase we didn't act as despots, and saw the people as subjects, but rather as citizens, is now represented by Alfonso, whom has found the current crisis to be a perfect opportunity for him. Always the opportunist, always egotistical... the family knows him well... but this is nothing but high treason to the nation, to the family and to God. He would have never been relevant, but Manuel III died without children and his younger sister, Infanta Maria, renounced the throne to turn Lutheran for Jysken-Ostveg. That turned him into the next heir so its clear that Manuel needed to be eliminated before he would have offspring, so that Alfonso can finally take the crown. Too bad he tainted it and it became shameful for us. The whole events of the last weeks have first been surprising but now are all too easy to observe. The terrorist attack in Valls has wounded Manuel and later killed him. The way the events took place, it should be clear for the whole world that the terrorist attack that flared it all up, an explosion that the whole of Ebria heard, has been organised by Aníbal Durán an Infante Alfonso, as the quick way the reacted and moved just showed they knew how and when to expect it, rather than be shocked and taken aback by it [...] For us, Infante Alfonso has been all but disinherited by his actions and at least for me, and my side of the family, we stand by Valls, Sahagún and Amérida [...]" stated the Marquis of Amerida in his open letter. The publication of it comes in the aftermath of the Ebrian ambasador to Csengia, defecting to the Alfonsists, and stating that it is the trade unions based around Amérida which have organised the attack, in a failed bid to start a socialist revolution.

Rebels approach Valls, while the 2nd Army's offensive finally begins

Valls, Comarca de Valls (Trastámara)
The rebels are attacking Valls in force, as General Murillo and señor Darío Ríos, vice-president of the government are still preparing its defences. The bulk of the 3rd Army is to the center and south of the Comarca, with the division headquartered around the city attacking the independently commanded and still loyal garrison for the capital. Rebels have been slowly pushing around Valls and in desperate battles, they managed to conquer the towns of Las Rosas and Henares, beginning to enter the northern and north-western suburbs. The retreat from Las Rosas and Henares has been ordered by General Murillo, who called the city easier to defend, but at the same time, making the airport of the city, Cuatros Vientos vulnerable to rebel attacks. At the same time, in the north, the 2nd Army has attacked in full force, with the Ebria Cismontana Division, headquartered around San Benito, overhwelming the Territorial Defence Garrison, which has alligned itself to the rebels. On the other side of the Comarca, along the waters of the Thaumantic, the city of Arapiles has been under extreme pressure by our soldiers, with victory at hand, opening up, once liberated the coastal plains. In the center of the Comarca, the rebel garrison seem to be resisting much stronger than in San Benito or Arapiles and there have been casualties reported and heavy defences with no successful breakthrough. Meanwhile the Ebrian Legion is on the move, with a Tercio set to arrive in Valls to aid the garrison, while another will soon come to the north to reinforce the 2nd Army, and one remaining in reserve. The legion is Ebria's most elite unit, and will very soon lift the siege of Valls.

Short News
Aureliano Palaia dismissed as regional parliament votes out pro-royalist government
Chiste, Comarca de Nuoria
Aureliano Palaia, regional governor of the Comarca de Nuoria, which last week has pushed his government to recognise only the now defunct royalist system of Ebria, has been dismissed by the regional parliament and accused of sedition, as it called for the anti-Alfonsists to rise against both the republic and the Alfonsists and invite Maria of Jysken Ostveg back to Ebria. In the current situation of martial law, the 1st Tercio of the Ebrian Legion, together with the Territorial Defence Force has taken to the streets, following his announcement, to ensure that no hooligans, terrorists and other agitators organise any forms of terrorist attacks, but the situation remained calm, which has led the regional parliament to come together and to vote out the government. The Comarca de Nuoria has thus been put under the directly appointed governance from the temporary capital of Sahagún and the current Lieutenant Governor, Bastiano Petrecca, has taken the double role of regional governor too. The Radilan units that have fought in Ebria have crossed the channel to the island too using ferries, to the celebrations of the people of Nuoria, seeing them as heroes, friends and brothers.

Valls attacked with chemical weapons

Valls, Comarca de Valls
The Capital City of Valls has been attack by the Alfonsists with chemical weapons today, as they have been deployed in the Las Letras neighbourhood. There have been reported thousands of deaths as it also hit a field hospital organised in the waiting rooms and lounges of the Puerta de Alcala train station. Even so, in the ground attack that followed, rebels have been pushed back by the soldiers of the garrison unit and of the Teritorial Defence Force. The situation continues to be dire, but with the recent successes of Operation Matador, especially in Balazote, the fear of a northern attack towards Santa Cruz have been greatly reduced, and thus General Murillo, the commander defending the city is negotiating with Dario Rios, Ana Isabel Gallego and General Ortega, to move the Teritorial Defence Units there into the city to bring in reinforcements. The chemical attack on Valls has shown that the savagery of the Alfonists knows no bounds as for the first time, chemical weapons have been used against civilians too, whereas as of yet it targeted initially foreign volunteers and then soldiers, all combatants.

Operation Matador continues successfully

Sahagún, Comarca de los Lagos
Soldiers of the 2nd Army and the Ebrian Legion have been successful in pushing the Alfonsists further back in the northern front, with victorious liberations of Balazote, Moraleja and a strong advance along the Autopista 8. There have been delays in the advance along the Sierra Dorada and Daimiel still resists, but the pressure felt on Valls becomes lesser and lesser as the National Republican Army advances south. The rojigualda flag is flying over Balazote and Moraleja, while Daimiel has been surrounded on three sides, and it is possible that the rebels will retreat south in the mountains rather than be surrounded, where they can provide one last stand in front of the popular armies aiming to break the siege of Valls.

The heavy price of defeating fascism and Alfonsism

As the soldiers of the National Republican Army battle on in what is seen as the endgame of the civil war and Alfonsism, many begin to wonder what will follow the day after the much awaited news of defeating Alfonsism. As the nation is celebrating its most sobre Easter in recent memory, a lot of prayers go to the losses from what has been seen as a useless fratricide war fuelled by the royalist egotism and their tone deafness towards the true needs of the Ebrian people.

The siege of Valls has devastated one of the most beautiful capital cities of the Meridian Sea, with the neighbourhoods of La Tiburana, Alcala and Ciudad Universitaria seeing about 40% of its buildings collapsed and 80% of them damaged, while the least affected is Las Letras, Cuatros Vientos and Bocagrande, which see around 10 to 15% of its buildings collapsed and about 50% of them damaged. With the grand number of deaths in the siege of Valls and the number of people who ran away, Valls lost between 2 and 3 million citizens.

With the conflict still ongoing, these are mostly just estimates, but speculation rises the total number of casualties, on both sides of the conflict and the civilians to about 400,000, which is staggering, considering that the conflict started just 6 weeks ago, but at the same time, it is a witness to the violence and aggressivity of the war and of the unscrupulous use of chemical weapons by the rebels, with some of the most violent ones being the attack on the Radilan Marines which have joined us and the attack on Valls, which affected combatants and civilians too. The economy is believed to have shrunk by about 10% only in these 6 weeks.

"This is probably the most difficult to celebrate Easter in the recent history of our nation. Even so, we carry on. It is a sober holiday that we now understand at its true valor for so many in our nation have someone dear on their minds that is either missing, has been lost or is still caught in the siege of Valls or even worse, lives in Calatrava and the rural areas of Southern Trastamara under the totalitarian yoke of the Alfonsists. It has been an event that brought us back from a vicious circle of partisan politics and that exploded in violence and is probably something that this generation and the next ones will forever learn from. Ebria will forever say no to violent partisan politics after this," stated President Ana Isabel Gallego.

OTHER NEWS
4th Division on the Coast:
The 4th Division of the 2nd Army, under the command of General Juan Gabriel Modesto has managed to reach the Autopista Costera which links Valls through Amerida, with a fragment of the trip done by ferry. It will meet there with the International Socialist Legion as it will cross the strait and will both enter Valls from the east to reinforce the defenders. The stream of reinforcements, first with the territorial defence units, now with the volunteers organised by the trade unions in Baetica and the units of the 2nd Army, shows that the battle of Valls is reaching its conclusion, as a dramatic victory against the forces of fascism, especially as the Ebrian Legion and the rest of the 2nd Army is pushing from the north, while the 1st Army is coming to their aid too.
Public service announcement: Be careful what you talk and with whom you talk to. THE ENEMY IS LISTENING! If you are suspicious of Alfonsist activity in your area, report it to the local Police station. Always keep medical supplies on you, in case of an enemy attack.

¡Te pillamos! Rebel leader Alfonso de Sánchez captured

You must be registered for see images
The National Republican Navy has reported what is seen as the greatest victory of this war as Alfonso de Sánchez, rebel leader and pretender to the defunct throne of Ebria has been captured as he tried to disguise himself as a sailor and go around the naval blockade trying to escape the country.

The fishing trawler which left the small port of Poblete, as it always did even before the war, has been observed to go much further in the ocean as it always did by the ships in the naval blockade around the coasts of the nation, and has been quickly stopped by the nearby frigate San Cristóbal which was patroling the coastal waters within the cordon of Federation, Tarusan and Commonwealth ships which block mainland Ebria to ensure no foreign supplies come to the nation.

While at first it was very close to escape, as the captain pleaded to be allowed to fish further along the ocean because waters were depleted near the coast, the Ebrian sailors inspected the trawler closely and observed that one of the crew members looked vaguely similar to the rebel leader Alfonso de Sanchez. His characteristic moustache and goatee and also buzz hair shaved made it hard to recognize him initially, but with the ship under scrutiny, documents about reaching a ship further afield, in international waters, to take a passenger of extreme importance to safety. Further scrutiny by the admiralty has shown that the suspicious passenger was none other than Infante Alfonso, rebel leader and pretender to a defunct throne.

The second leader of the Trinidad de la Maldad which has made Ebria suffer so much in the past weeks has gone down, after Pedro Mendez, the butcher of Villareal, creator of the fascist Silvershirt paramilitary organisation has been killed in action by the National Republican Army in the aftermath of the battle of Arapiles as the units liberated the pueblos at the foothills of the Sierra Dorada mountains.

This is probably the greatest morale victory against the Alfonsist camp, especially after the disastrous Easter Offensive where the enemy divisions have been all but anihilated by the National Republican Army and it shows that it's just a matter of days if not a week until the enemy collapses. With the arrest of Alfonso, the namesake of the enemy camp, there is nothing for the enemy to fight anymore.

"The Admiralty has reported that Infante Alfonso is in custody. He will be accused of high treason, crimes against humanity and sedition, which will probably either lead to a capital punishment or to a lifetime imprisonment. During peacetime there is no death sentence in Ebria, but as we are fighting a war and the country is under martial law, the accusation of high treason is what can be punishable with death, but we will see what a neutral and respectable court will say on that, once the war fully ends. In the meantime, I will say only this to the remaining enemies: There is nothing left to fight for but continuous suffering for us, for your, for both our families and the people of Ebria. Abandon this fight, turn towards the rule of law and lets end this madness. The reconstruction of Ebria must begin now!" stated Presidenta Ana Isabel Gallego.

Guns cease fire in the nation as General Miaja Menant apprehends Durán

  • Overnight, an uprising took place in Calatrava between pro-negotiation and radical rebel factions
  • General Aníbal Durán arrested by General Segismundo Miaja Menant
  • Proclaiming his takeover, Miaja Menant called for an end of fighting and for Alfonsists to put down their guns
Earlier this week, to the surprise of many in the National Republican Armed Forces and the public, the Battle of Valls has been won once the units from the 2nd Army have begun to slowly but steadily stream into the city and reinforce the embattled Brigade of the Valls Garrison, which lost more than 90% of its original members since the war started, and the two Territorial Defence Units which aided them, as the 9th Division of the 3rd Army, which held the city under siege since the war started in mid February, has started retreating.

Yesterday evening, the rebel 9th Division seems to have reached Calatrava and overnight they seemed to have fought the remnants of the 7th and 8th Divisions, and also some pro-Duránist territorial defence forces, managing this morning to announce the takeover of Calatrava and to publish photos of General Aníbal Durán as their prisoner. At 6am this morning, on the radio, General Segismundo Miaja Menant's proclamation could be heard, as he proclaimed himself the new Generalissimo of the Catholic and Royal Armed Forces, replacing General Durán, and announcing that the war is in a phase where it is going against their cause and their chances will only deteriorate more from there. He called the rebel Catholic and Royal Army to cease fire and to put down their guns.

The response of the National Republican Army was to change the rules of engagement with the enemy to just open fire when fired upon and the units of the 1st and 2nd Armies, together with the Ebrian Legion are now flooding the Comarca of Valls, to ensure that if Miaja Menant and his pro-peace faction lose control of the Alfonsist movement, as much as it seems to be impossible by now, it will be impossible to form any real defensive line.

The National Republican Army has entered Valls from the north too and will organise this weekend a victory parade along the Gran Vía, in celebration to the successful defence and resistance the city has shown. President Ana Isabel Gallego already stated that the government will move starting next week, back to Valls, from the city of Sahagún.

Discussions now are taking place between the government and the rebels to lay down their guys and also to surrender General Aníbal Durán, who will be tried alongside Infante Alfonso also others for organising the failed coup which led to the most destructive civil war in modern age Ebria. Resistance still continues with groups who either don't recognise Miaja Menant, or who know that once the war is over they will be tried for war crimes, the most significant being the Alfonsist and Silver shirts in the town of La Coria, where many of the perpetrators of the massacre of Villareal seem to have concentrated.

"The takedown of Aníbal Durán, and the call to lay down the weapons is nothing but a responsible action taken after a sober analysis of the situation. With Angliarique going through a coup and condemning their Pressburg Pact membership, as they too were used as pawns by the Tarusan to try to attack Ebria from Csengia, following the inability of Csengia to open up a 2nd front by themselves against us without risking a collapse of the regime in Kispest too. The lack of any outside support coming from Pelasgia either just showed that any continuation of this conflict will just further the suffering and make retribution more severe. For this, I cannot but congratulade General Miaja Menant for showing common sense at least once this year and I request the surrendering of General Durán and of the 3rd Army, to ensure that Ebria leaves behind this tragic episode and begins to heal, rebuild and recover," stated President Ana Isabel Gallego.

Government calls for an end of the naval quarantine:
With the war coming to an end, as major fighting stopps and both General Duran and Infante Alfonso apprehended, the government of Ebria issued a thanks to the Federation of Westernesse and the Socialist Commonwealth for organising the naval quarantine that kept supplies out of the Alfonsist hands and kept the war from escalating into a regional if not continental conflict. Now, with the rebel faction collapsing, the government has called for the end of the quarantine, as normal trade and commerce can flow easily to and from Ebria as reconstruction must begin.
Continued pockets of resistance: Not all Alfonsist rebels have followed the call of General Miaja Menant, even if the 3rd Army is surrendering their guns. Fanatical traditionalists and fascists found within the paramilitary wing of the banned Traditionalist Communion, the Silvershirts and others withing the Territorial Defence Units that sided with Duran and Alfonso, still continue to resist as they fear the post-war justice after the war crimes and massacres they perpetrated. The towns of La Coria, Poblete and San Jose are still under such fanatical enemies, while the Sierra Dorada mountain range seems to be filled with disparate bandit groups which try to keep the state authorities as faraway from them as possible, as they are mostly remnants of the old Silvershirt movement.

Ana Isabel Gallego returns victoriously to Valls

  • National Republican Army parades victoriously on Gran Vía
  • Administration will slowly return to the capital city from Sahagún
  • Last Alfonsist pockets liberated. Bandits still roam the Sierra Dorada
La excelentísima señora, Presidenta Ana Isabel Gallego has returned to Valls for the first time in 8 months, after she relocated the executive and the supreme council (Junta) of National Defence to the northern city of Sahagún, to avoid a complete Alfonsist takeover in case the coup organised by General Aníbal Durán would have been successful. After traveling during the night, the President participated in a victory ceremony in the capital city, set up in the still not damaged Argüelles neighbourhood, holding Plaza Mayor and Gran Vía, Valls most known and most glamorous boulevard.

This Saturday, survivors of the Garrison of Valls, the Territorial Defence Units and elements of the 2nd Army have paraded along the Gran Via in a show for the citizens of the city which celebrated the final end to the civil war that made Ebria bleed so much in the past 6 weeks and has been one of the most violent events the city of Valls has gone through since the war of Ebrian Succession in 1700, when the Radilan Dandolo dynasty lost control of the nation. More than 15,000 soldiers paraded along the grand boulevard, the majority of the National Republican Army, but also Radilan Marines, which have responded to the call to aid, and also Josepanian and other socialist volunteers from two independent volunteer brigades, one named after President David Constantino of Josepania, the other a generic socialist legion which was organised by the trade unions of Betica, which is formed of soldiers from all over the globe.

While President Gallego has returned for the moment back to Valls, it will take a few weeks for the administration to fully return back to the capital city and retake its position in the Alcazar of Valls, which was quite damaged during the siege. The Cortes is still functional although it has been suspended and there have been about half of its members which collaborated with the Alfonsists, through the Traditionalist Communion, the far right party headed by the late Pedro Mendez, the butcher of Villareal. At the end of the parade, President Gallego announced that very soon fresh elections will take place and they will see the centre-left Popular Union face off the centre-right Chartist Party of Manuel Vargas Gomez. As part of the new elections, a referendum will also be called to reaffirm the republican constitution.

During the day, the 2nd Army assaulted the last bastions of the Alfonsists which still held the towns of La Coria and San Jose and didn't follow the call of General Miaja Menant to surrender. A total of more than 700 casualties were observed in both towns on both sides in what has been, by saturday evening, the liberation of the last town in Ebria still held by rebel forces. Remnants of the Silvershirts and other Alfonsist rebels are still dotting the Sierra Dorada and an anti-banditry campaign will soon be organised by the volunteer brigades and the Armed Police Corps.

Commemorations for the lost:
Along the nation, commemoration ceremonies for the lost in the war are being organised, with the biggest, in Valls, taking place at the behest of the Ayuntamiento which has ordered the creation of new cemeteries of the victims of the war. It is believed that the great number of victims, will end up increasing the size of cemeteries in metropolitan Valls by about 150%. Dario Rios and General Luis Alonso Murillo have also participated in a ceremony where the city of Valls has been awarded the title of Undefeated, Loyal, and Heroic City, where also the Medal of the Defender of Valls was unveiled. President Gallego also announced that there will be an operation in cooperation with @Radilo to exhume the members of the Radilan Marines which died in Arapiles in the first chemical attack which took everyone by surprise, leaving more then 3,000 victims, and at the request of the families, they will either be returned to Nuovo Porto or buried in the Heroes' Cemetery in Valls.

Constitutional Court declares Republican Proclamation valid
  • Constitutional Court declares that the 12th of June 2023 elections functioned as a referendum
  • Ávila Accords violated by royalist factions when they sided with Durán and Alfonso
  • Republican proclamation on the 13th of June 2023 to remain valid
The Constitutional Court has finally weighted in on the institutional situation in Ebria, after the chaos of the past year, with the proclamation of the republic last summer, a short restoration to appease both factions with the Ávila Accords and the then the Alfonsist Uprising. The Court stated that with the Radical Republican Party campaigning specifically on proclaiming the republic and winning by a landslide on the 12th of June 2023, the election then can and must be seen as a referendum on the republic too, as the people voted them knowingly that their main campaign point was to end the Crown of Ebria and replace it with a modern republic.

Fast forward a few weeks later, with tensions rising between the Traditionalists, which gravitated around the image of the now dead traitor and war criminal Pedro Mendez, the republican government chose to appease the arch-conservative faction so as to avoid a civil war or a coup, as they feared they were too radical and lost the loyalty of the state institutions such as the military or the police. They thus signed the Ávila Accords, which stated that both factions will accept the result of a referendum and will never encourage political violence of any form of changes to the functioning of the state. In the referendum that followed, the restoration of the monarchy won very closely but as the Constitutional Court stated, it was: "set up in an environment of fear that a civil war might be coming and that the conservatives, the autocrats and the traditionalists never actually showed that they are willing to compromise, and that even if they signed the Ávila Accords, there were great chances that the moment the results were pro-republican, they would have rose up in rebellion as they did months later, in February 2024." Thus, the Constitutional Court stated that the restoration of the monarchy referendum is to be declared invalid as it took place under the threats of political violence which the Avila Accords were set to make away with. This also brought out a condemnation on the violation of the Ávila Accords by royalist and traditionalist forces which have first threatened their way to force the result they wanted on the referendum, followed by an actual uprising as they didn't manage to form a legitimate government.

Thus, the Constitutional Court has concluded that officially, Ebria is going through it's 2nd Republic phase and that the 13th of July 2023 republican proclamation is still valid with the Constitution of 1980 remaining functional, solely with the Amendment of 2023 when the 1st Article proclaimed the nation to be a Semi-Presidential Federal Republic, rather than a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, with the Head of State now being the President, and the head of government the Vice-President, rather than the monarch as the Head of State and the President of Government as the cabinet leader. The court declared invalid the Ávila Accords and proclaimed Alfonsist and traditionalist factions to be the sole to blame for the violation of Ebrian constitutionalism, electoral fraud and influence trafficking in the Institutional Referendum and for the continued political violence which culminated in the Alfonsist Uprising.

"Looking back at the events of 2023, we see that the republicans had the support of the people, but as they feared a response from the arch-conservative, traditionalist, fascist elements of the public and the political establishment, they appeased them and restored the monarchy, even if it seemed to be a betray of their principles and a mistake, they tried to avoid political violence and sadly allowed it to fester until we got the Alfonsist Uprising. It is good now that the Constitutional Court made sure that it is to be understood that the Republic is here to stay and will remain as a synonym of Ebrian constitutionalism and the rule of law and democracy in the nation," stated Samuel Covarrubias Garrido, political analyst.

The clean up of Valls begins:
The operations to clean up the city of Valls are beginning in force as the government has called volunteers from all over the nation to come and help clean up the debris and destruction from the cruel and savage siege of the city, with the most affected areas being the north and north-western parts, such as the Ciudad Universitaria and the Las Letras neighbourhoods, with the downtown and south-western La Tiburana area being moderately affected as well. The government keeps the army mobilised so it can help the works and keep the necessary logistics to offer food and medical supplies in the city, while also offering clean potable water in the most affected areas. To increase the number of volunteers, President Gallego announced that the people from outside Valls who will come to aid in this process will receive a tax cut as they won't have to pay the property taxes for this year, even if she called it a "patriotic duty" to do that too.

I would like to inform you that we would like to send in humanitary aid in the form of food packages, water purification installations, field hospitals, tents etc. We are also leasing temporary residential barracks all over the world to meet the acute living needs of the Ebrians.

Furthermore, we are talking with construction companies from the Rheinbund to help in cleaning up and rebuilding Valls, at the expense of the Rheinian government. We can also help with repairing the electricity network and building new power plants, also at the expense of the Rheinian government.

Rebuilding Valls: Clean water and supplies a priority
  • The National Republican Army remains in the city to ensure medical and food supplies are given to the people
  • Roads are being cleaned to aid transport
  • Projects are already brought up for the destroyed areas
You must be registered for see images
The reconstruction of Valls is in full swing as the government is mobilising the civilians and the National Republican Army to aid in the cleanup and the rebuilding of the capital city and Valls. The government promoted a program where people from outside the metropolitan area of Valls come to aid on a volunteer basis and in exchange they will get property tax breaks for the current year. It seems that as of yet, more than a quarter million people from all over Ebria have signed up in this program and are coming to Valls to aid in the rebuilding process.

Two divisions from the 2nd Army remained around the city, numbering over 30,000 soldiers which will be continuing their mission, this time not as combatants, but rather as helpers, as the NRA remains around to offer medical and food supplies to the people, so as to ensure that there will be no famine starting as the city is working to redo its infrastructure. Fears of cholera run high, especially in the very affected neighbourhoods such as Henares in the north-west of the city, but every day a convoy of cisterns brings potable water to the citizens returning to the destroyed area of the city, where the most vicious fighting took place, in the early days of the Alfonsist Uprising. Very few neighbourhoods of Valls are as affected as Henares. The only other with this level of destruction, is the historical Las Letras, where about half of the buildings have been deemed as moderately to severely damaged.

The main priority of this host of citizen volunteers, both from the city and from the whole of Ebria, numbering about half a million people in total, with the Valleños working for the reparations too, has been to clean the debris of the buildings first from the roads, to allow for transportation to continue. With the road infrastructure returning to normal, the rest of the rebuilding can continue, as the government is also set to begin the largest building structural integrity assessment in the history of the nation, so that it can be decided which buildings can be repaired, which must be destroyed and rebuilt from scratch. Current estimates state, that with the aid of the Meridian Union and @Rheinbund especially, Valls can be rebuilt to its pre-war levels in three years.

Some architects and urbanists have already contacted the government and the Ayuntamiento, to propose a series of changes to the city, especially with the expansion of the ring road highway around the city, and also to fully transform Las Letras, as it is the historical part of the city into a fully pedestrian and public transportation only neighbourhood. Others, have stated that this will give the chance to rebuilt Henares as a central business district of the city, with Westernesse style skyscrapers replacing old brutalist buildings from the 1960s.

When interviewing the population of the city, it seems that a generalised optimism can be observed in the population, as the war is now in the past and while many will never forget their losses and this trauma will remain as a scar on their psyche, it seems to have redrawn the style of the human interactions in the city: "It is a moment I waited for so long, as the six weeks of the war and the siege felt like an eternity, but probably the promise that one day we will start to look forward for tomorrow again, rather than just go to sleep and be surprised you still woke up, is something that probably made me go forward through all of this," stated a woman which was filling up buckets with debris to give to the others as human chains were pushing down the rubble to trucks.

"I wasn't sure Valls would resist. I told my wife, my parents and in-laws to go to Santa Cruz, at least from there she could take a ferry to Palma or Algeciras. In the end, my father and my father-in-law remained with me. I wanted to keep the family safe because we feared what the Alfonsists would do to the women. Now, we have the family back together, and we are all working together to return to our normal life," said a man who volunteered in the Armed Police Corps to aid in the defence of Valls, pictured on the right, relaxing in the spring sun with a colleague.

"It was a shock... It was a weird siege, as electricity and water and public transportation was running in some neighbourhoods, while in others you had fighting going on. My mother moved in with me in La Tiburana, as her apartment was in Henares. I went to work, and in the evening, a missile hit exactly our building. My mother was pronounced dead by the aid workers as they were going through the rubble to find survivors... Everything was moving so fast, it felt like a bulldozer was running over my life. Losing one's parent and then not even be given a chance to grieve, because everyone around was suffering like this and there was no chance to stop. You had to pretty much aid the others and end up creating a community where you lean on each other so you can survive. If anything, this war reminded us of the importance of the community... too bad it came with such a high price. We will rebuild. It is a promise we must make to the lost ones, to build back better," stated a woman who was handling food rations.

SECURITY REFORMS SPARK DEBATES WITH THE MILITIAS:
President Ana Isabel Gallego has issued a decree, formalising the disbandment of the Catholic and Royal Armed Forces and their replacement with the National Republican Armed Forces. This also came with the ambition to bring together the security forces too so they can be assimilated under the authority of either the Ministry of Defence or the Ministry of the Interior. To reduce costs and as the tensions in the world have calmed down too, the government wishes to disband the Territorial Defence Forces and the Armed Police Corps. The latter will be reformed into the Security and Assault Corps. The future of the socialist legion has also been put in question, as the government wishes to integrate them into the Security and Assault Corps, which will function as a gendarmerie for the republic. The trade unions are at the moment pushing the regional government in Baetica to lobby for decentralising the new unit, so that they are under regional control, rather than federal. At the moment, President Gallego announced that all scenarios are on the table, and more feasibility studies and investigations will be necessary.

TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION FORMED: Vice-president Dario Rios Lopez has been selected to form and lead the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, whose main duty will be to investigate the crimes of the Alfonsist rebels in their savage attacks against humanity in general and the Ebrian people in particular. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR - Comisión de la Verdad y la Reconciliación) will begin an investigation which will lead to the trials of Infante Alfonso, Anibal Duran and their lieutenants and will also ensure that every decisionmaker that pushed for the uprising, for the Villareal massacre, for the use of chemical weapons, and every soldier that has violated the rules of war will be punished.
