Government responds to Gothic Sea Piracy Crisis

Valls, Ebria

Prime Minister Pedro Herrera has announced that the United Kingdom of Ebria, Nuoria and Hamrun will respond to the Gothic Sea Piracy Crisis through a thoroughful condemnation of Gutharike-Lethonia for the state sponsoring of piracy actions, and also of the Tsardom of Tarusa for escalating the tensions in the Gothic Sea, the first for full on using their navy for illegal piracy actions and the latter for allegedly attacking a submarine which was hunting pirates, thus defending indirectly the piracy actions.

The government of Ebria has announced that it will completely end the representation of Gutharike-Lethonia in Valls and will recall its ambassador from there and will fully see from now on Jysken-Ostveg as the sole successor of the Scanlaw, with special recognition of Metsamaa and the Hansa as a fully independent state of "especially cordial relationship to the United Kingdom". At the same time, the government condemned the escalation in the Gothic Sea, and while not responding as harsh to Tarusa as it did to Gutharike, the Tarusan ambassador to Valls was called into a meeting with the government to explain the recent actions of Tarusa. It is as of yet undecided if the government will take any more actions against Tarusa or not at the moment.

Regarding trade on the Gothic Sea, the government stated that the only way it will aid shipping companies will be if they will avoid the Gothic Sea by using the west coast ports of the Holy Frankish Empire and Jysken-Ostveg, along the Thaumantic and then continue by rail, so as to avoid the Gothic Sea. It is expected that this will reduce the trade between Ebria and Ostmark and Tarusa respectively, by more than 75%, especially if the crisis is set to continue. The government is currently taking a stance of shy support towards the Holy Frankish Empire, stating that it supports its policing actions, but certain statements of the minister of foreign affairs, Mateo Restrepo show that the United Kingdom would have preferred a joint response. As of yet, the government is waiting on the Frankish actions and results, with el señor Restrepo taking a cynical approach, believing they won't be efficient, while el señor Herrera is taking a more optimistic one.

PROPOSAL FOR A MERIDIAN UNION COMMON CURRENCY:
The Ministry of Finances, led by la señora Isabela Ballester García, has issued a proposal for the governments of the @Rheinbund and @Radilo, partner nations of Ebria in the Meridian Union, to bring their cooperation even closer through the creation of a common currency, which señora Ballester has called the Meridian (Meridiano), which will be pegged 1 Radilan Ducat : 10 Meridians/Meridianos : 10 Rheinbunder Marks : 50 Ebrian Pesos. The Minister has stated that it is a national next step in furthering the development of the cooperation between the Meridian Union nations and that it will also be a world wide premiere, tying the three nations together in such a way that it truly builds a common ground on which they can develop further, easing the way trade and commerce is being done. "A first step would be the acceptance of the proposal, a 2nd step the pegging of the three currencies on a 1:10:50 ratio and only the third step would be the launching of the new currency," stated the Minister.
OPINION POLL UPDATE FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION: The recent Gothic Sea Piracy Crisis has given a great impulse to the National Front, against the Popular Front, giving the right wing alliance the first great chance to govern and dominate the politics of Ebria for the first time in 15 years. The parties of the National Front sum up together 55% of the voting intention, while the Popular Front only 40%, with 5% still undecided or voting for parties outside the two fronts, such as the National-Corporatist Party or the Communist Party of Ebria. Between the two main leaders, Julio Moreno enjoys a 60% voting intent over the current Prime Minister, Pedro Herrera, which stands at 40%.

National Front wins general elections, breaking the Herrerist monopoly on power
Valls, Ebria

Partido Restaurador leader Julio Moreno-Navarro announces a great victory for the center-right to right wing National Front, over the Popular Front and Pedro Herrera-Rasgado's Partido Cartista. This sunday, many Ebrians have turned towards the polls in the general elections, voting to form the next Cortes Generales, which will give the nation its next prime minister and government. Ebrian politics are dominated by two major and two minor parties, coming together in two main factions: The Restorer Party (Partido Restaurador), a centre-right Christian Democratic Party, is probably the biggest political faction in the nation. Its allies, are usually small parties who don't get past the threshold and whose candidates enter the Cortes on the Restaurador list. They are known as the National Front; On the other side, Partido Cartista (Chartist Party) is a social liberal party, allied with two other members of the Cortes, the Labour and Green Parties, which are seen as minors. Collectively they form the centre-left Popular Front. The latter has dominated the Ebrian politics in the past 20 years, thanks to the popularity and charisma of Pedro Herrera and other members of the Herrera political dynasty.

The Royal Electoral Office has announced the official results this morning after a night of counting the ballots and has announced a total turnout of a merely 63%, the lowest in the current century, which hasn't been seen since the early 1980s. Many state that the current results stem from a mixture of lack of interest, failure of the Populars to mobilise their electoral base and a generalised distrust that the current government of Pedro Herrera is capable of leading the country through the recent Gothic Sea Crisis, especially after the government stated that it will not aid shipping companies in crossing the Gothic Sea to Ostmarker, Tarusan and Metsamaa ports until the pirate issue is solved.

The results stated that the Partido Restaurador has managed to win 40% of the votes, with what is seen as a huge surprise being that the National Democratic Party, a conservative-liberal party, part of the National Front has entered the parliament for the first time and managed to get 12% of the votes, cementing the Front at a total of 52% of the votes for the Cortes. The Partido Cartista has managed to gain 33% of the votes, with the Labour party winning 10% and the Green Party 5%, which means they barely managed to pass the threshold and join the Cortes. This gave the Popular Front a total of 48% of the votes.

Prime Minister Pedro Herrera has conceded defeat and has announced that it will enter the opposition and will ensure the democratic path of the United Kingdom, congratulating Julio Moreno and calling the Restauradores to "govern the country competently". Señor Moreno is set to meet today with his majesty, King Mateo III, who will appoint him as the new prime minister and his government will be voted in once the parliamentarian session of the new Cortes Generales will begin.

"It is a great victory for the National Front, and I hope for all Ebrians, inside the country and in the diaspora. The people have chosen to go for a government of competent technocrats rather than populists and we will ensure that Ebria's place in the world is defended. We will continue to protect and aid our friends in the Meridian Union and will work to ensure that the rule of law returns to the lands and the seas. Ebria will from now on take a strong stance against actors who attack its interests and will ensure that the European Forum is revived, so that international solidarity in the interests of the peoples of the world will return," stated Julio Moreno-Navarro.

Analysts have stated that while the National Front's victory is historical, they expect no great changes in the foreign policy of the United Kingdom, but many internal elements such as the fiscal policy will go through big modifications.

OTHER NEWS
EBRIANS EAGERLY AWAIT FOR REMURIAN ASCENSION:
Opinion polls regarding the ascesion of the Commonwealth of Remuria to the Meridian Union show that 78% of the Ebrians approve of the expansion of the Union. Currently the United Kingdom and the Radilan Republic have voted in support of the Remurians, while the Rheinbunders delay casting their vote. The cultural heritage of the old Tiburan Empire, together with the cultural currents that dominated the last century such as Tiburanismo has influenced Ebrian culture and made the Italiote nations to be seen with very good eyes by the Ebrian people. It is expected that commercial ties between Ebria and Remuria will increase and shipping traffic will nearly double once the latter becomes a member.

We agree with Minister Ballester that the Meridian Union will benefit from a common currency. We will have to discuss the details of course, but I think that we all can benefit from the Meridian.

Our congratulations to Prime-Minister Moreno-Navarro with winning the elections in Ebria, and with his appointment as Prime-Minister. We look forward to a fruitful cooperation with him within the Meridian Union. We also want to thank former Prime-Minister Herrera for the very good cooperation with him during his reign, and we wish him all the luck he needs after his years as Prime-Minister.

Julio Moreno: "To become again a beacon for the world, Ebria has to heal"
Valls, Ebria

Prime Minister Julio Moreno has announced this week that plans are being made for a significant anti-corruption campaign, to ensure that the state budget and the public purse is safe from what he called "blood sucking ticks", bend on destroying the state from the inside. A very important element in the electoral campaign of the Partido Restaurador was the promise to fight corruption, which in a recent opinion poll, 85% of Ebrians feel it is prevalent, if not endemic to the country.

The Royal Office of Anti-Corrpution (Real Oficina Anticorrupción - ROA) has been created in 2003, but very little has come out of it in the recent years, with about 200 to 300 cases a year during its initial years, when the Restorers were in power, and then going down to 30-50, and even as low as 15 last year, showing that the institution has received less support during the rule of the Partido Cartisto and the Populars. After his recent speech, the Cartists have attacked Moreno and the government for promoting a witch hunt against the cabinet and even the ex-Prime Minister, Pedro Herrera-Rasgado, something Julio Moreno rejected.

As part of the new campaign to embolden the ROA, the Financial Guard has started an investigation on the customs service on the land border between Ebria and Csengia, which in the eyes of many is seen as an entry point into Ebria from central Germania of all sorts of smugglers, bringing everything from counterfeit consumer goods to drugs. It has been announced that until the investigation will be done, the level of traffic on the land border will go down by approximatively 50%, so delays are to be expected.

"The Herrerists have for far too long acted like this country is their personal fief. As much as I respect my oponents and I congratulate them on the good they have done, I simply cannot accept the old Ebrian adage that 'they stole, but at least they did things for us'. In the current day and age, something like this is unacceptable and I plan to start investigations on a series of contracts signed by the Ministry of Education in the last two years, the Ministry of Transportation in the last five, and the Customs service in the last fifteen at first. We will see afterwards how this goes and what will be next. In the mean time, we are working to put up a series of projects to streamline and make state companies more efficient, to ensure that the public money goes where it is needed, not wasted," state his excellency, Prime Minister Julio Moreno-Navarro.

OTHER NEWS

EBRIAN CORTES RATIFIED REMURIAN ASCENSION: After a vote in the Cortes Generales, the bill of Remurian ascension to the Meridian Union has been signed by his majesty, King Matteo III. This makes Ebria the first name to ratify the Remurian ascension, which is needed to be done by Radilo, Rheinbund and Remuria itself too before the country officially becomes a member of the Union. The vote was supported by 90% of the members, showing great support both from Cartisto and Restaurador members.
STRING OF BOMB ALERTS PROVED FALSE: This week, two shopping malls, two ministries, five police stations and a train station had to be evacuated after anonymous calls to the police stated that there are bomb attacks planned at the locations. TEDAX, the anti-terrorist and explosives branch of the Civil Guard has come to the scenes at all places and found no devices. The government stated that it is not expected that this is a prank, but rather a strategy of Ebria's domestic terror groups to confuse the authorities and have laid the blame on the Ebrian Revolutionary Socialist Party, led by Amilcar Durran, who stated in an open communique a few months ago that they declared war on the United Kingdom.
FIRST CONVOY REACHES WIEN, KREMLYOV, UUSLOSSA: Ebrian shipping has returned to the Gothic Sea, organised as convoys escorted by two frigates of the Catholic and Royal Navy. The first convoy has been made mostly of container ships and tankers, a total of five, three which had their destination Wien, the capital of Ostmark, and the others in Uuslossa, the capital of Metsamaa and Kremlyov, the capital of Tarusa. "No attacks or threats yet, but we are on alert and expect everything," stated Admiral Miguel Serrano-Álvarez, supreme commander of the Catholic and Royal Navy.

Bomb attacks rock Valls, Amérida and San Lawrenz. 40 dead and 250 wounded
Valls, Ebria

After two weeks of falls reports, the United Kingdom has been shaken in three major bomb attacks, targetting governmental buildings in the capital Valls and the major cities of Amérida and San Lawrenz. The attacks seem to have been car bombs, with explosives filling two ENA Silva SUVs which were parked in front of the town hall of San Lawrenz and the Regional Junta of Amérida, while a truck has exploded in front of the DAS headquarters in the capital, Valls.

Initial reports state 40 dead and 250 wounded, with the numbers quickly increasing and they are expected to double. The attack has been quickly claimed by the Communist Party of Corrientes and its armed wing, the Ebrian People's Army. The attack took place early in the evening and it was speculated that its goal was to hit as much people as possible exiting the governmental buildings at the end of the work day. The great number of victims came from the explosion in Valls, which detonated right when a bus was passing nearby, not more than 10 meters from the explosive truck.

The victims were rushed to the local hospitals and the authorities have created a crisis cell and activated plan black for intervention, meaning a generalised mobilisation of the security and healthcare forces across the whole nation. This comes after two weeks of calls to the emergency numbers of bomb threats, which were false, coming from burner phones, which at this moment, the authorities didn't manage to localise or to find out who was the caller. Investigations are underway.

"It is an extreme event, far stronger than the attack in August which has rocked Valls. This time, we are sure that the attackers are much more vicious and don't seem to care about the victims or collateral damage at all. To Amilcar Duran and his crazed cabal, I will say that the arm of the law is swift and severe and they will suffer from this attack. In this day and age when global tensions run high, to organise such attacks on your own citizens is a monstrosity. We are quickly responding and I have ordered aid to arrive towards the affected cities form allover the United Kingdom. A crisis cell has been organised and we will ensure that this communist insurgency will be dealt with," stated Prime Minister Julio Moreno-Navarro.

In the letter claiming the attack, which was sent to most of Ebria's newspapers, the People's Army of Corrientes stated that the attacks targetter the regional Junta in Amérida for influence trafficking in bidding for the land plots in the agrarian reform, while the attack in Valls was targeting the DAS (Administrative Department of Security), which it called an oppressive institution and a political police. The attack in San Lawrenz has been seen as peculiar, as it was stated to have not been authored by the People's Army or the Communist Party of Corrientes, but rather, the claim letter states that it has been organised by an allied unit, the Jarad Depetri Commando, a unit of the "People's Revolutionary Army of Hamrun". The government did not yet state anything in regards to this and as of yet it is not believed that there is another group that has started hostilities with the state, but rather, it is seen just as a diversion.

Valls, Amérida and San Lawrenz still feel the aftermath of the bomb attacks
Valls, Ebria

The cities of Valls, Amerida, and San Lawrenz are reeling from the aftermath of multiple bomb attacks that have left the streets littered with debris and chaos in their wake. In the wake of these attacks, cleaning up the destruction and restoring normalcy to the affected areas has become a top priority. The clean-up operations have been a massive undertaking, involving the coordination of government agencies, first responders, and volunteers. Areas in front of the Mesquita in San Lawrenz, the Playa de Ebria in Amerida of the front of the DAS building in Valls, once bustling with life are now blocked by rubble and debris, making it difficult for emergency vehicles and rescue teams to access the affected areas.

The first step in the clean-up process was to clear the area of any hazards, including potential unexploded bombs and debris that could pose a danger to residents and clean-up crews. Once the area was deemed safe, work began on clearing the rubble and debris. Heavy machinery was brought in to remove the larger pieces of debris, while volunteers and clean-up crews worked tirelessly to clear the smaller debris and restore some semblance of order to the area.

As the clean-up efforts are progressing, the focus shifts to restoring the infrastructure in the affected areas. Reparations of roads and buildings is set to being soon. The task was daunting, but through the collective efforts of government agencies, first responders, and volunteers, progress was made, and the affected areas are slowly but surely returning to normal. In the midst of the destruction, however, there is also a sense of community and resilience. Volunteers and first responders from across the region have come together to help in the clean-up efforts. They have worked tirelessly, day and night, to restore order to the affected areas, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

"The road to recovery will be a long one, but the people of Valls, Amerida, and San Lawrenz are determined to rebuild their communities and move forward. They have shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of this tragedy, and their determination to rebuild their lives and communities is a testament to the Ebrian spirit, which is indomitable, as much as all sorts of terrorists try to smother it," stated Prime Minister Julio Moreno-Navarro.

The aftermath of the bomb attacks in Valls, Amerida, and San Lawrenz has been a challenging and devastating time for all Ebria However, the tireless efforts of government agencies, first responders, and volunteers have helped to restore order and begin the process of rebuilding. "The road ahead will not be easy, but the people of these cities have shown that they are strong and resilient, and that they will overcome this tragedy and emerge stronger and more united than ever before," stated the President of the Amerida Junta.

Five arrested in nation wide police action against terrorism
Valls, Ebria

In a nationwide police action, five men and women have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities. The arrests were made following months of surveillance and investigation by law enforcement agencies across the country. According to the authorities, the suspects were part of the Duran Gang, the self styled Ebrian People's Army, which has carried out the terrorist attacks in Valls, Amerida and San Lawrenz throughout the country. The arrests were made in several cities, and multiple properties were searched as part of the operation.

The police have not released the identities of the suspects, but they have stated that all of them are Ebrian nationals, three being of Hamrunite descent. The suspects are currently being held in custody, and investigations are ongoing. The arrests have been praised by government officials, who have commended the efforts of the police in preventing another deadly attack. Interior Minister, Emilio Gállego, said in a statement: "I am grateful to the police and security services for their tireless efforts in combating terrorism and keeping our citizens safe."

The arrests come at a time of heightened security concerns in Ebria, following a series of terrorist attacks which have rocked the nation not only now, but also in the summer. The authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

The nationwide police action has been described as a major success in the fight against terrorism, but the authorities have cautioned that the threat of terrorism remains high. "We must remain vigilant and work together to prevent any further attacks. The safety and security of our citizens is our top priority," stated Prime Minister Julio Moreno-Navarro.

The Ebrian authorities have also thanked the Remurian people for their solidarity and aid and have stated that the DAS, the Ebrian intelligence agency is cooperating with its counterpart from across the Meridian, to ensure that such actions will not take place again. The casualties have been officially put up to 43 dead and 274 wounded, most of the wounded coming from Amerida, as the Playa de Ayuntamiento is an important pedestrian area in the city, while most of the wounded, come from Valls, as a crowded bus passed right by the truck as it exploded.

The border crossing with Csengia remains heavily guarded to ensure that no suspects will try to cross the border into the hermit kingdom and try to disappear there. The Armed Police Service has worked together with the DAS and has managed to come up with a list of 43 potential suspects, which represent the radical elements of the now banned Ebrian Communist Party and may represent the core of the Duran gang.

We want to express a very harsh condemnation of the terrorist attacks that took place in Ebria. We will put the Communist Party of Corrientes and the Ebrian People's Army on the list of terrorist organisations, which means that all their possessions in the Rheinbund will be confisquated, that non-Rheinian members of these organisations will be declared persona non grata and extradited to Ebria, and that Rheinian members of these organisations will be arrested and trialed for membership of a terrorist organisation or extradited to Ebria.
We also offer our assistance in treating the wounded, identifying the deceased and cleaning up the debris.

Second Meridian Union Summit in preparation in Valls
Valls, Ebria

The second Summit of the member states of the Meridian Union is set to take place soon in the city of Valls, capital city of the Crown of Ebria. This summit will be a special one as for the first time, Remuria has been invited too as a member, besides Ebria, Rheinbund and Radilo. For a second time the summit takes place in Valls, but the Ebrian government has promised that the next ones will take place on a rotational basis.

The Summit is centred around responding to the issues brought by the Gothic Sea Piracy crisis, which seems to have died down at the moment, but also to enhance the economic, cultural and political links between the member states. The Ebrian Crown has continued its promise to guarantee the sovereignty and liberty of the member nations, without forcing an institutionalised reciprocation, thus the Meridian Union is set to remain an economic union first and foremost.

At this Summit, the Ebrian government, led by the President of the Government, el Señor Manuel Vargas Gómez, has hinted that it will open up talks to the member states for the complete ratification of the ascension treaty of Remuria, which has been ratified currently only by Ebria, their final ascension waiting on the final approvals of Radilo and Rheinbund, before they themselves are to ratify it, but it also wishes to respond to the recent happenings in north-eastern Gallia, as the Holy Frankish Empire seems to be slowly moving away from close cooperation with the Tsardom of Tarusa and the Gothic Sea Pact. Señor Vargas Gómez announced that it wishes to open up a dialogue between Ebria and the Holy Frankish Empire in regards to Gallian cooperation, hinting that he might even support the idea of the HFE to join the Meridian Union first as an observer, then as an associate and even potentially as a full member, should they be open to it.

"It is our goal to see Gallia prosper. The countries of the Meridian Sea are working together and it shows, for their economies are robust and have managed to pass through the tempestuous crises of the past year with no big issues, all thanks to our cooperation and unbroken ties. This summit in Valls I hope to open with a grand welcome to our new allies and friends, the Remurians, while I hope that in the north, pragmatism will prevail, and the memory of the Tiburan Empire is still alive in Chagny, for our brothers the Franks to look towards us too with the same gaze that we look to them, hoping to see that it is with pragmatism, openness and respect for our legacy, heritage, shared Catholic faith and respect for the rights of our peoples, we can work together," stated his excellency, el señor Vargas Gómez.

The corruption and smuggling scandal that has hit the border guards unit on the Csengian border continues as the investigation is set to take much longer than expected. EBRIANS COMEMORATE LIFE OF CHANCELLOR EIDMAN: The news of the death of the Ostmarker Chancellor Walter Eidman has taken many Ebrians by surprise, with the Ostmarker politician being one of the foreign politicians with the highest percentage of approval in the eyes of the Ebrian people. The Generalidad de Hamrun is set to organise independence referendum
San Lawrenz, Hamrun

Abram Biancardi, the President of the Generalidad de Hamrun has announced that it will organise an independence referendum to see the current Kingdom of Hamrun, which is part of the composite Crown of Ebria to become an independent Hamrunite Republic. The announcement has been received with celebrations in many Hamrunite cities, which are dominated politically by progressive, republic and nationalist thought, while the still islamic dominated Hamrunite countryside took a much more ambivalent approach. Ebrian communities in Hamrun seem to be distraught. The Catholic and Royal Supreme Court has announced that any unilateral declaration of independence is null and void as it violates the Constitution of the Crown of Ebria.

El Partido Nacional Popular de Hamrun, the National People's Party of Hamrun has dominated the regional politics since the beginning of the current century and as much as it always had republicanism and independence in its party program, it never explicitly called for it, with many of the Presidents of the Generalidad calling for an improvement of the standard of living within the Crown, rather than outside of it.

It is believed that after the recent bomb attacks in Valls, Amerida and San Lawrenz, has radicalised the Hamrunite nationalist and Ebrian wide republican elements, but this recent flare of tension seems to have been the complete opposite of what Biancardi and his faction have hoped for, as many have been disgusted by the recent political violence and seem to be asking for stability, rather than choosing unstable ideals.

The government in Valls has not yet commented on it, but there are mainly two factions in the federal politics. The Restaurador Party wants to force the Hamrunite regional government to end what they call a destructive folly, while the Cartistas prefer to allow them to go on with their referendum and ensure that they will lose in the end. The president of the government, Manuel Vargas Gómez, although a Restaurador, has stated a few months ago that he wishes to ensure that peoples inside the Crownlands remain citizens not because they're obliged but rather because they aspire to do so, and thus has stated that a "once in a lifetime" referendum would be allowed, but he will do his best to ensure that the remain camp wins.

"It is our duty as Hamrunites towards ourselves, towards our heritage and towards our children, to ensure that there will be a Hamrun where the next generations will be proud to grow up in. Our mixture between Uroduah and Tiburan and the Islamic religion makes this island of ours unique not only in Ebria, but in the whole of Gallia and the Meridian and it must be understood that with a referendum for independence, we are correcting a historical wrong from the 15th century, when the Ebrians invaded and destroyed the Hamrunite Emirate. We wish to see an independent Hamrunite Republic, which is non religious, but respects our heritage and is open up to everyone," stated the President of the Generalidad, the regional government of Hamrun, Abram Biancardi.

OPPINION POLL ON HAMRUNITE INDEPENDENCE: Recent polls show that the people of Hamrun are divided in their potential quest for independence. While Ebrians, Nuorians and other immigrants of the island are firmly in the pro-remain camp, it is interesting to observe that the progressive and secularist outlook of the current regional governments makes the conservative and more religious countryside reluctant to join the movement. Currently the pro-independence camp stands at about 52% of the electorate, while the pro-remain at 48%, should there be no third option.

The Generalidad de Hamrun declares unilateral independence in referendum aftermath
San Lawrenz, Hamrun

Today, the Generalidad de Hamrun has announced the final results of the referendum they have organised last sunday, stating that a total of 53% of the population of Hamrun has voted for independence, with a turnout of 58%. The government of the Crown of Ebria has announced from the beginning that such unilateral independence actions cannot take place as they are against the constitution, which thoroughly states on the importance of the unity of the realm, but has allowed the referendum to take place, announcing that it will be exclusively advisory.

Abram Biancardi, the President of the Generalidad de Hamrun has announced victory of what he called the "Struggle for Independence" and has signed today a decree proclaiming the creation of the Democratic Republic of Hamrun, a secular, independent republic. The Viceroy of Hamrun, his excellency, Eduardo Zanhuesa has announced that he will not co-sign the decree, condemning the unilateral proclamation of independence.

Hamrunite society seems to be divided on the issue, with Ebrians and Nuorians being thoroughly against the issue, while Hamrunite muslims seem to be ambivalent, preferringto not take any position, with some conservative leaders condeming the "secularist and prgoressive foundations of the republic," and calling the current status of Hamrun as a Viceroyalty of the Ebrian Crown as a lesser evil.

His Royal Majesty, Enrique V has condemned the unilateral proclamation of independence, calling it unnecessary and an affront to all citizens of the crown. His position has been taken by the government of the Crown too, with the President of the Government, Manuel Vargas Gómez, condemning Abram Biancardi and his supporters, going as far as announcing that they will stand accused of high treason should this charade continues.

In the meantime, on the streets of San Lawrenz, the people are celebrating and flying the green-white-green triband of Hamrun as their new national flag. Even so, more Ebrian and muslim dominated neighbourhoods stand still and quiet, waiting what what they expect to be a political storm to come, as the aftermath of the break of Pannonia is still alive in the eyes of many, thus they expect the government to crackdown on separatism to avoid the fate of the aforementioned late central Germanian republic.

Abram Biancardi has called for the police and military stationed in Hamrun to follow the directives of the new Democratic Republic, but at the moment, it seems that most institutions stand in expectative, waiting to see what will Valls' reaction be. As of yet, it seems that the status quo reings at the military and police bases, with the Biancardi cabinet still not openly giving orders to the institutions, fearful that they might break the spell and observe that they have no support.

General Revolt in Hamrun as government announced Operation Demetrio
San Lawrenz, Hamrun

Last evening, the government in Valls, led by President Manuel Vargas Gómez has announced that the Generalidad, the Government and Parliament of the Viceroalty of Hamrun are to be disbanded as they have promoted sedition against the unity of the realm and of the Crown. While in general, it seems that Valls still has the loyalty of much of the security forces in the island, it seems that the announcement has radicalised many supporters for independence and has moved even some of the guarded neutrals into supporting the separatist movement, seeing the autonomy of the nation violated by the Valls government.

Protesters in Hamrun have taken over the streets in many neighbourhoods of San Lawrenz, with about 150,000 demonstrators in the capital, 75,000 in Gharb, 40,000 in Sannat and 25,000 in Baħrija. The protests in San Lawrenz have been largely peaceful, even if the Guardia de Asalto had to intervene when protests turned to riots at about 2am in the district of Kamrata, leading to the destruction of 25 small shops and businesses and the burning of 75 cars with mainland and Nuorian plates. About 40 people have been arrested.

Greater problems have seemed to be reported in the smaller towns, especially in Baħrija, where the local police, following the call of Abram Biancardi to join the protesters and follow the separatist government's guidelines, have joined in with the demostrators and the prefect of the local police, Ruzar Randon, has opened up the warehouse of the police headquarters and offered the protesters weapons and other equipment. The threat of political violence and terrorist attacks have been raised to Code Black in Baħrija, to Code Red in Sannat and Gharb, orange in San Lawrenz and yellow in the rest of the island.

This morning, President of the Government, Manuel Vargas Gómez has announced that the National Security Junta has been activated since the start of the Hamrunite Crisis and has come up with a reaction plan to bring a quick end to the crisis, which they have activated today, called Operation Demetrio.

As per the spokesperson of the government, Operation Demetrio is set to bring about 15,000 members of the police, Guardia de Asalto, Cuerpo de Policia Armada and if necessary, reinforce them with 5,000 soldiers from Nuoria and the mainland into the island of Hamrun, to ensure that peace, stability and security is set to return to the island, and to arrest the treasonous government in San Lawrenz.

"Our duty is to ensure that the constitution of the realm is respected. We will bring Ebrians and Nuorians in Hamrun to ensure that there is no collusion between terrorists, seditionists and the security forces. In the meantime, the security forces of Hamrun are ordered to remain in their barracks. The faster peace returns to Hamrun, the faster new elections are organised and the Viceroyalty earns back its autonomy," stated the President of the Government, Manuel Vargas Gómez.

Ebrian opposition groups, going from the pro-republican Partido Laborista to the arch-conservative Partido Restaurador have criticised the response of the Chartist government, with the former criticising the heavy handed actions of the government, with Ricardo Fernández, chairman of the Labour Party stating that sending such a large number of security forces to Hamrun will be seen by many as an escalation and a military occupation of the island, leading to more violence. On the other hand, Juan Antonio Carretero, chairman of the Restorers, criticised the government for waiting for so long until coming with concrete actions.

OPINION POLLS ON THE CRISIS:
Los Tiempos de Valls is a big supporter of free speech and democracy and wishes to always keep the people connected to the events unfolding in the nation and the world at large. For this, it will start organising opinion polls on the most pressing takes to see the positions of the people of Ebria. In our first one ever, we have observed the following: 44% of the population of Hamrun stated that they will support and even fight for independence; The cause of Hamrunite independence sees little support in Nuoria or Ebria itself, with 30% of Nuorians and Ebrians stating that Hamrunites should be allowed to gain their independence. In regards to how this independence should be won, 80% of both camps state that it should be done through negotiation and referendums, only 3% stating that there should be an armed struggle for the Hamrunite independence. This crisis seems to have also destroyed any chance of popularity of the Chartist Party, with Gomez' government enjoying a mere 30% approval. None of the other parties seem to enjoy greater approval, as the Labour Party seems to be seen only by 45% of the people that they would have handled the crisis better, while the Restorer Party, reported an 48% approval. What seems to be a pillar of Ebrian culture, the monarchy still seems to be enjoying high approval ratings, with the Crown, his majesty, King Enrique V and the royal house of Sanchez, reporting an 83% approval. While many Ebrians seem to distrust political parties, trust in the institutions seem high, with over 80% trusting the legislative Cortes, and 67% trusting the security forces.

Hamrun Crisis: Abram Biancardi escapes San Lawrenz and promises violence
San Lawrenz, Viceroyalty of Hamrun

Operation Demetrio has been declared a success by the government in Valls as it has managed to apprehend much of the separatist cabinet and undo the illegal and irrational unilateral declaration of independence of Hamrun, managing to re-establish order in the Viceroyalty and disband the 'Democratic Republic'.

Demonstrations in San Lawrenz are beginning to wind down as more than 150 people have been arrested for the rioting that has hit the city in the previous weeks, with damages estimated to rise up to about 50 million Reales in the city and about 15 million in the rest of Hamrun. Demonstrations continue, but numbers seem to be going down, as last night's protest managed to gather only 15,000 people, whereas during the early days of the crisis, more than 300,000 have come on the streets of the Viceroyalty's capital.

As for the seditionist regional cabinet, half of the government has been arrested and put under accusation of sedition and high treason, while 5 other members of the cabinet are still on the run. There have been rumours that they have even managed to escape the archipelago and the country, leaving for ideologically similar countries such as Nieveland, San Jose or Gran Occidentia.

On the other hand, the president of the government, Abram Biancardi, has sadly managed to slip past the police cordons around San Lawrenz, but he hasn't yet managed to escape the archipelago. In a video he posted on the twatter platform, he has announced that he is still in Hamrun and has vowed to continue fighting, announcing "the beginning of a protracted war against royalism and Ebrian fascism", proclaiming the creation of the People's Revolutionary Army of Hamrun, which he called a "rural and urban guerrilla project". Amilcar Durán, the Ebrian terrorist and leader of the Ebrian Communist Party has made an appearance in the video too, making it clear for many that the perpetrators of the bomb attacks on Valls, Sahagún and Amérida are in Hamrun, allied with the local communists and separatists.

The President of His Majesty's Government, señor Manuel Vargas Gómez has announced that the Hamrunited security forces will return to their usual duties and with the success of Operation Demetrio, the mainlander and Nuorian police presence will be reduced and and large, nearly 20,000 force will be reformed into a 5,000 strong Quick Reaction Force which will remain on the island until the threat of communist and separatist terrorism will be terminated.

"We have observed that life in Hamrun is slowly returning to normal. Proudly we can say, that while the threat of attacks still exists, the storm has passed and I want to congratulate the people of Hamrun for turning their backs to the ideological radicalism and lies perpetrated by politicians which had wished to divide our realm and turn brother against brother, and to the Security Forces too, firstly to the Hamrunite ones for following their orders and remaining loyal to their duties and to the Ebrian and Nuorian ones for acting professionally. As promised, the autonomy of Hamrun will return and we will begin organising a regional election, to form a loyal parliament and government to administer the Viceroyalty, this time in the interest of all the people of the Archipelago, not only for the radical independentists," stated his excellency, Manuel Vargas Gómez.

Ebrian Niomonnach protest in Valls:
The Nievish Community in Ebria (La Comunidad Niveña de Ebria), numbering nearly 400,000 people has organised a protest in front of the Embassy of the Catholic Revolutionary State against the militarisation of their society and the recent actions of the Pherson cabinet which forces the conscription of much of the country's youth and goes as far as to create extreme punishments for those accused of draft dodging. The Nievish Community of Ebria, as much as it campaigned for a long time on bringing together the Crown of Ebria and the Catholic Revolutionary State together thanks to their shared Catholic faith, has taken a stand and is protesting the recent events. Los Tiempos de Valls has announced that it will sent reporters to Nieveland to show the world the realities of the recent events.

Normal political life returns to the Viceroyalty of Hamrun

In the aftermath of the separatist crisis, now with the arrest of Abram Biancardi and the other cabinet members, as they tried to escape the island and take refuge in Gran Occidentia, political life begins to return to normal in Hamrun, to the joy and peace of mind of most of their residents.

In a decree signed today, su excelencia, Eduardo Zanhuesa, the Viceroy of Hamrun, has issued the end of the State of Emergency in the island, bringing an end to the 10pm to 5am curfew, the full completion of Operation Demetrio, which will bring back to Nuoria and the Ebrian mainland the policemen and soldiers which participated, a return to the Hamrunite institutions and administration and the return of political life to the island.

The promise of fresh free elections has also been fulfilled as the President of the Government, señor Manuel Vargas Gómez, has issued a decree for the organisation of snap elections. Already, the Cartista and Restaurador Parties have started their political campaigns. They have been joined by the Labour and Green parties, but also by a slew of local and regional parties, from the centre-left Hamrunite Citizen Union to the right-wing Hamrunite Islamic Party. While normally, in regions like Amerida and Nuoria, albeit having their very own internal cultural identities, there have been unwritten rules and norms about not having regionalist parties, Hamrun has always been different, its cultural differences being not only cultural and linguistic, but also religious. Even so, none of the regionalist parties have managed to win seats in the national legislature, only in the local one.

The separatist leaders have been incarcerated pending trial and will be accused of sedition, setting up a terrorist organisation, and attempts to illegally leave the country. With such accusations, they are set to expect between 10 years at best and life in prison. Many believe that they will receive about 20 years of imprisonment.

"It is something that we have thought of for a long time recently and we will ensure that whomever the Hamrunites elect, they will work for the betterment of Hamrun and its people, not for insane populist ambitions. Ebria is a nation under the rule of law, hence it was important to end direct administration of the island as fast as possible and to let the democratic institutions return to their normal functions. We are living in dangerous times which will need to see us all united together, rather than fighting like this," stated Manuel Vargas Gómez, President of the Government.

GOVERNMENT TO MEET WITH THE HANSEATIC REPUBLICS:
Manuel Vargas Gómez will be the first foreign leaders to openly meet in a state visit with President Katharina Günther, the first president of the Hanseatic Republics, which have only very recently united and won their independence in the aftermath of the collapse of the Scanlaw. The President of the Government will discuss the issues of the Gothic Sea Piracy, the security of trade and the recent setbacks on global stability with the Hanseatic President.

Ministry of Military Affairs launches "Doctrine of Total Defence" in the face of escalations

In the aftermath of yesterday announcements of a great increase in the defence spending, the Minister of Military Affairs, señor Dario Alfonso Rios Lopez, Duque of Sahagún, has also stated that the expansion of the Catholic and Royal Army comes with a change in doctrine too. Minister Rios has held a meeting of the Royal Junta of National Defence, which also includes the President of the Government, Manuel Vargas Gomez, the other cabinet members but also representatives of the Catholic and Royal Armed Forces and the intelligence services. It has been stated that, exceptionally, his majesty, King Manuel III, has participated too in the meeting of the Junta, showing the grave situation.

The Ministry of Military Affairs has announced an expansion plan that will include new airplanes, tanks, anti-air and other missile systems, bringing it's defence budget to a total of 100 billion Reales (65 billion EM). The Ebrian Catholic and Royal Forces, already are one of the main forces of the Meridian, with 400,000 active soldiers and nearly 3 million in reserve thanks to the extensive conscription system.

Minister Rios has announced the Doctrine of Total Defence, stating the solely defensive role the Catholic and Royal Army plays in Ebrian society and the complete absence of expansionist ambitions. The Doctrine is based on historical invasions of Ebria, with the most important being the Frankish invasion of 1835, which has led to a quick decisive victory of the Frankish army against the regular Ebrian forces, but then has led to 5 years of attrition guerrilla warfare that forced the Frankish retreat.

The doctrine calls for the creation of a 4th branch of the Catholic and Royal Armed Forces, besides the Army, Navy and Air Force, namely the territorial defence forces, which will be fully volunteer based, with the role of representing a stay behind institution meant to fight a guerrilla war, should the territory assigned to them will be occupied. For that, the volunteers will be training for two weeks once they sign up and every 2nd weekend for 6 months, followed afterwards by a weekend per month while they are members of the unit.

"Ebria went on the offensive only once, in the 16th century, and it created the world's firstmost and greatest colonial empire, spanning from islets in Implaria, accross half of the western hemisphere, with outposts allover Gallo-Germania, Himyar and Toyou. Since then, times have changed, worldviews have changed. We are for more than 2 centuries basing ourselves on the importance of defending the homeland, and for that, I will work tirelessly to ensure that we will not fail, we will not surrender. The royal flag might be white, but it's purity and valour, together with the coat of arms of the Crown will be flying proudly whatever enemies stand in our way and invade us. As of yet, we don't believe it might happen very soon, especially to such levels, but the risk of having the Tarusan Civil War spill over our lands is very real, and we must ensure that we are ready for it," stated Minister Sebastian Riviera.

The Doctrine also states that the government must develop production lines for synthetic oil, which will be using local resources for it such as the anthracite from the mines of Nuoria, for them to be liquefied and thus converted. It also requests an audit on the civil protection bunkers accross Ebria and also requests exercises for evacuated in case of attack for the citizens. The doctrine has been approved and turned into law through a governmental decree signed by the President of the Government, señor Manuel Vargas Gomez.
