Feasibility Study for the Friendship Bridge

The ministry of Transport, under Alan Cabal Botin, has reserved 15 million Quris for a feasibility study for the proposed Friendship Bridge over the Madre de Dios River, to connect the Confederation of Entre Rios with Tapenaga and to lighten the traffic over the San Cristobal Bridge, situated on the main continental highway connecting Santa Cruz to Rio Brava, the capital of the Vaquero Free State.

In the past few years, trade and commercial exchanges have increased more than hundred fold between the three nations, compared to 1997, when Diego Miralles Seco became Consul and started his economic reform. Changing the ossified structure of the old economic policy, Miralles' reform has created a series of free zones, open to private ownership and foreign investment, opening the way for more trade in Occidentia, a more efficient economy and more and cheaper goods for the Entrerriano people.

To further aid in this development and increase in the quality of live, the Civic Front, led by the current Consul, his excellency Roberto Campos Tamayo has proposed the construction of a new bridge over the Madre de Dios River, on the border with the Tapenaga Republic. Currently, about 40% of the goods crossing the border over the river go through the San Cristobal Bridge, the rest being taken with ferries, which is considered overly expensive and inefficient.

While at first Minister Alan Cabal has promised that a railroad will be built too, to further aid in the transportation, the Consul has since then turned against this, stating that the Selva makes it too hard and too expensive to build what might be a fully new mainline linking Entre Rios to the Vaquero Free State at this stage. Such a project will of course, remain open for a further date when there are either funds or foreign investment for a project of such magnitude.

The feasibility project will being immediately after the holidays and will last three months, after which the recommendations it will bring will offer the necessary modifications to the project. Construction is expected to start in June or July 2020.

"We are happy to see that we are on the way to open a new road to link us with our friends and brothers from Tapenaga and the Vaquero Free State. Once finished this will become a new lifeline for the peoples living in Occidentia in general and the Selva in particular as it offers a safe and easy way to cross a river which has been seldom described as treacherous or even dangerous," stated the Minister of Transportation, Alan Cabal Botin.

Christmas incoming: Chirstmas celebrations have taken over the Confederation, with the people looking forward for the 25th of December. Cities have been decorated and nativity scenes and carol singers can now be seen in the central squares of most towns and cities. The authorities have ramp up security and the health services are on stand by especially for the traditional Christmas parades that are to take place after the Mass on the 25th.
Culture: The Coffee King, a musical drama set in 1750s Santa Cruz will premiere this evening at the Teatro Onyx in central Santa Cruz. With an ensemble cast made of the best Entrerriano actors, there is quite the hype for the premiere.
Sport: Electrico Santa Cruz advances to the semi-finals of the Entre Rios football championship after it defeated FC Sipe Sipe, with a score of 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

Yanacona Chiefs call out illegal logging in the Selva

Led by Sumak Asto y Amaru, the chief of the Yanacona tribe from the Sipe Sipe province, an indigenous delegation from the Selva has been received today by his excellency, Consul Roberto Campos Tamayo and her excellency, Vice-Consul Octavia Campos. Chief Sumak Asto y Amaru is an old friend and comrade of Roberto Campos as they both served in the Blue Guard during their military service when they were both in their early 20s. Since then, Roberto Campos has returned to Santa Cruz and rose up in the ranks of the Partido Azul, while Sumak Asto returned to Sipe Sipe and then he inherited the chiefdom from his father.

The main issue the Yanacona delegation came for was to report on the realities of illegal logging in the south-western province of Sipe Sipe. The audience with the Consul comes after a conflict of the chief with the Prefect of Sipe Sipe, Luca Moruga, with the latter stating in his reports to Santa Cruz that there is no illegal logging taking place at all, calling the alleged calls as alarmist.

Chief Sumak Asto reported that there have been cases in which some of his people have been attacked by what he described as a timber mafia, which illegally cuts trees from the state owned territorial reserve and lets the them flow down the Madre de Dios river along the border with Tapenaga, from where they are collected and taken to Burruyacu, the capital of Tapenaga from where its' smuggled to the rest of the world, as precious tropical timber.

"We will look into those accusations and we will make sure that an investigation will be started. Under the Civic Process, nature is respected and the state is adamant in keeping the forestry industry responsible in its exploitation of the resources God has given us. As per law 13/1996, we do defend and work in regenerating the Selva as one needs to plant three saplings in order to gain the right to cut one fully grown tree. While I myself am quite sceptical of those allegations, I will order the beginning of an investigation headed not by the local authorities of the Sipe Sipe state, but rather by the Federal Police. We have zero tolerance towards corruption. That is what makes us different from the old regime and that is why Entre Rios has prospered in its recent history," stated Consul Roberto Campos.

Vice Consul visits orphanages to see state of social care

Her excellency, Senora Octavia Campos, Vice Consul of the Confederation has started a tour of the country to observe the current state of social care institutions, as a response to the recent wave of suicides taking place in Entre Rios, many of the victims being 18 year olds who were in the care of the state but had to leave as they became adults.

Octavia Campos has been known for her humanitarian work even before she became the second in command of the Partido Azul, behind her husband, as she founded the Society for Beneficence, now popularly known as the Octavia Campos Society, which has provided support to the most impoverishes corners of the Entrerriano society, fighting at first against rough sleeping, but then expanding to start campaigns against slumlords and absentee landlords in the biggest cities of the Confederation, starting vaccination campaigns in the Selva, and even education campaigns targeting indigenous communities.

Recently, the system of child welfare and social care of the nation has been under criticism, with conditions being sub par and psychologically an extreme burden to the children that have to go through it. With the exceptions of a few orphanages and social centres owned by the state or the National Federation of Trade Unions, which offer decent quality, most of the others have been owned by missions of the Tiburan Church, which has struggled to find funds to keep them running at full efficiency. As a result, many of the children living in the latter are thrown in the streets at the age of majority with little to no chance of coping with life outside or to be fully integrated by the society, resulting in many suicides. In more extreme cases, material conditions in such orphanages might be so bad that there would be little to no difference with living on the streets.

For this, the Octavia Campos Society has started what they have declared to be a "Crusade for a normal childhood". Headed by the Vice Consul, the society will begin looking for funds and donations to improve the material conditions and to seek volunteers that are ready to man those institutions.

"With the issues in Bourgogne, the failing health of a mostly isolated Pope and the Seven Day War that took place a few years ago, the Tiburan Church has struggled to send funds to maintain those social institutions in Entre Rios at their best state, leaving behind husks of what they could have been, at the expense of the Entrerriano children. This is where we must show our solidarity and our charity and intervene. A roof above your head, a dry room, a comfy bed, a warm meal should represent rights not wants, in a normal, christian society. But above all that, we must also show our love. Those kids need to see that there is someone up there that takes care of them and that they can look up to. They need to know that life is worth living, even if you started it rough," stated Paola Luque, vice president of the Octavia Campos Society.

"The aim of the Civic Process is to create a social nation, where solidarity and respect for human dignity prevails. This is what differentiates us from the old Café con Leche in which radical individualism and oligarchism created a survivalist environment where every man was for himself. We are here to serve, we are here to help, we are here to aid, we are here to love. To love you, to love the nation and to love its people. What we must do is to create a system in which every citizen feels protected inside the borders of the Confederation and the unfortunate children having to live in such institutions make to exception to our oath of fealty towards the nation and towards Civismo. I will personally visit those dilapidated missions and will work together with my colleagues to see that those institutions will be rebuilt and manned by competent and compassionate staff, so that those kids, when they reach the age of adulthood, will be ready to start their new life with no issues. I myself, will start donating 75% of my salary towards the Society for Beneficence so that they have the capital necessary to start their work and I invite you all, if you have some spare change, this of donating it too, and with that you will be doing your duty towards the nation, towards the new generation and towards humanity itself," stated Octavia Campos in press conference.

The Vice Consul will soon begin the tour, starting in Santa Cruz, visiting first the mountainous states from the east. San Carlos, Patacamaya and Vallegrande, then the Pampas, ending her tour in late January in the Selva, where she stated that she wants to see for herself is the allegations of illegal logging are true or not.

The Consul's Christmas Address to the Confederation

As the nation prepares to celebrate Christmas, his excellency, Roberto Campos Tamayo, Consul of the Confederation and Supreme Chairman of the Civic Front and the Partido Azul has given the traditional address to the people of Entre Rios and the whole world. The Christmas Address is a tradition in Entre Rios since the creation of the Viceroyalty in the mid 1600s, with the Viceroy giving a speech in the San Francisco Cathedral in central Santa Cruz. The tradition was continued by the first consuls of the independent Confederation, but it really hiked with the invention of the radio as the speech could be listened live in all the corners of the country, and afterwards, the advent of television and the creation of TE (Televisión Entrerriano), later to become the Antena1 Corporation, has made most of the people turn their television sets to watch the Consuls holding their speeches.

This year's address has been celebratory, commending the solidarity of the people and their forever evolving work ethic, making the Entrerriano economy reaching new heights, while showing the world what a united people, with faith in their future, in God, in their families and in their country really can do and how it can look like. At the same time, the consul touched some of the some sensitive points that need to be addressed in the following year, to further the betterment and improvement of the people and of the nation as a whole, finishing with a call for the people to never forget their history, their traditions and their faith.

"Dear and esteemed citizens of the Confederation and of Central Occidentia. I am proud to make my third address to you this Christmas and to tell you that this year, you have managed what the previous generations were only dreaming of achieving. You are now living in a nation that is now stronger and better than ever, a real model of an effective corporatist economy and of class solidarity. A nation built by the blood of our forefathers, through our sweat for the next generations to enjoy and to live in a normal, natural and solidarist society, where every citizen has his own place and can enjoy life without fearing the future.

Two thousand nineteen years ago, a star appeared above Pelasgia, leading the three wise men from Azraq towards Bethlehem, signifying the birth of Jesus Christ, our lord and saviour. While we must be sober and understand the importance of this date in regards to the salvation of humanity, we cannot but be overjoyed by the good tidings that Christmas day had brought the world ever since. My family is preparing for this celebration by lightening the candles in our windows, decorating our Christmas Tree and singing carols, as any family in Entre Rios does. But while we all enjoy the tree, the decorations and the visit from Papa Noel, I will invite you all to join us in the afternoon of Christmas day for the traditional mass at Church. It is a period of celebration for a better future, the the coming salvation, for the birth of hope itself through the birth of Christ, but also a period of reflection, of being thankful to have our loved ones close by and to look back at what we did and what we could have improved in ourselves.

At the end of this great year, our nation rises hand in hand together more united and proud than ever, but we must be sure that we are not blinded by the successes of the last years. Toiling to improve the nation must still continue. Sadly, the state of our orphanages has been recently brought to our attention and I feel that myself I have failed the kids living in those institutions for not doing enough for them. We must we must all shake hands together and to pull so that we can be sure to create a society that is just to all its members and that we are following the guidelines that Christ has set upon us as he gave us the word of God.

A new year will soon be upon us and in this new one, we must do our best and make our best efforts to see our evolution and boom continue. Until then, enjoy the holiday. Feliz Navidad, Entrerrianos!"

Smuggler assassinated: A smuggler by the name of Martin Bienvenida, recognised as one of the heaviest names of the criminal underworld of the state of Sipe Sipe has been found assassinated, shot in the head. As of yet nobody came out as witness and the police have no suspects, but many fear that this will open a pandora's box, as such acts were seen as a taboo, even by the criminal circles.
Culture: The Federation of Entrerriano Plastic Artists has set up a series of nativity scenes for this Christmas in the main cities of the nation, such as Santa Cruz, Vallegrande, Patacamaya, Vinto, Suarez, Villamonte and San Carlos.
Sport: A charity match between Atletico Federal and Electrico Santa Cruz has been played today, with the money earned from selling the tickets being donated to the Octavia Campo Society and its Campaign for a Normal Childhood. The two football clubs managed to earn and donate over 250,000 Quris.

Archaeological discovery might change the way we see our history

The use of LIDAR technology, a surveying method using lasers and their reflections to offer a 3D image of the terrain underneath the foliage, has given the Minister of Culture the chance to begin a new comprehensive archaeological campaign in two phases, a first one surveying the low valleys of the Catatungo River and the second, much grander, surveying the Selva.

A discovery in the valleys of the upper Catatungo, beneath the temperate rainforests has taken the Institute of Occidental History, which organises the campaigns, by surprise as what was before describes only as the Colina de la Vacas, the Cow's Hill is actually an overgrown cairn, if not even an indigenous pyramid, with more studies needing to be made.

As of yet, the researchers of the Institute of Occidental History are divided, but a bit more than half tend to describe the Colina de la Vacas as a pyramid rather than a cairn. While its own nature is divisive enough, the time frame of its existence complicates things even more, as many tend to situate it's period of construction in the 5th century AD, while others going as far as the 10th century. This makes the history of the structure quite shrouded in mystery as the main urban civilisation from the Sierra Dorada that might have built such a structure was the Cana Kingdom, which started flourishing only from the early 10th century, many viewing the previous Charcha culture as improbable builders.

While the Institute itself has refrained from commenting and has called for more funds to research the Colina de la Vacas Pyramid and the other valleys of the Sierra Dorada, theories are abundant, some describing the Colina as the centre to the Aurarian inspired legend of El Plateado, the mythical silvery city hidden in the mountains. It's existence has been denied by most if not all researchers, seeing it as early modern imagination or an Occidental take on the legend of the Kingdom of Prester John. Indigenous legends of the Acuano people, descendants of the Cana link the Colina to the mythical death place of the God of the Sea, Talloc, who moved to the mountains after being exiled from his marine empire.

Archaeologists have preferred to stay away from linking the site to such legends or heathen beliefs, but have stated that the Pyramid itself is too early to be considered as part of the great Cana Kingdom, while also it's architecture, and outright reason to exist doesn't mimic anything the Charcha culture built. The discovery might show to us that either the Charcha were a lot more sophisticated than previously thought, that a pre-Cana culture was already building great stone structures or that there is a third culture that we haven't discovered until now.

Weird Encounter: In Estado Flores, a drunk driver has been stopped by the police on the highway towards Vallegrande. He was naked, drunk and had 10 chickens in his car boot. He was accused of driving under influence, drving without a licence, theft and public indecency after it was found out that he stole a car to transport the chickens to Vallegrande. The police haven't yet found the reason why he was naked too.
Society of Beneficence: The charitable foundation led by the Vice-Consul Octavia Campos has donated one million Quris for the building of a modern orphanage in Patacamaya, big enough to house the children and the staff of three rundown social institutions around the state.

The great success of the Free Economic Zones

Created in 1997 during the term of Diego Miralles Seco as Consul, the Free Economic Zones started as a radical and controversial project, which was condemned by many conservatives for creating cracks in the corporatist economy has become the result of the most successful reform since the start of the civic process in 1968.

Existing around the hinterlands of a number of cities along the Gulf of Cassiopeia, the Pampas and the Selva and in two resource rich valleys of the Sierra Dorada, the Free Economic Zones represent regions in the country where the economical entities don't have to be banded up into corporations and foreign investment is allowed, provided that all workers working for foreign or privately owned companies are member of the Vertical Syndicate, the national federation of trade unions and that the corporate laws of the Confederation are respected fully.

While they have started quite slow, with very timid foreign investment, the people living in the free trade zones have used the opportunity to set up thriving businesses, transforming Santa Cruz and Suarez into some of the most thriving cities of the Gulf of Cassiopeia, which have also enjoyed since 1997 the biggest economical growth in the whole western hemisphere.

The recent Eiffellandian and Furlan investments into the Free Economic Zones, which were all accepted by the Ministry of Trade and Commerce might bring up to 5 billion Quris in investment in the free economic zones, with the biggest receiving being Santa Cruz and Barranca Brumoso.

"We are offering guarantees of protecting private property and are offering Aurarian expertise and a very productive work ethic. I am sure that this wave of Furlan and Eiffellander investment is only the first to be coming. Santa Cruz is changing upon our eyes and we see the city transforming, improving and growing bigger by the day. I do fully extend my invite for all companies of the world to invest in Entre Rios so that we can both enjoy what truly is a symbiotic relationship," stated the minister of trade and commerce, his excellency Jorje Manuel Correa y Carvallo.

Weather: Heavy rains in the deep southern Selva has affected the roads linking Estado Sipe Sipe with the rest of the country and have increased the flow of the Madre de Dios river, with a yellow alert for flooding being issued along the border with Tapenaga until next Tuesday.

Tremendous 10.7% economic growth expected in the first quarter

Year 2020 begins with an extremely positive note for the people of Entre Rios, as the Ministry of Economy and Industry has estimated that the free economic zones are rising over any expectation after the recent wave of investments made by the government of Eiffelland and Furlanie. The Ministry expects economic growth of over 10% coming from the free zones of Santa Cruz, Barranca Brumoso, Patacamaya and Valle de Plata, but also the increase in the construction sector, especially around Santa Cruz, Suarez, Aitabamba and San Miguel.

Set up in 1997 by Consul Diego Miralles Seco, the free trade zones had a rough start with little to no external investors interested in Entre Rios in the late 90s, but it offered the locals the chance to test their business skills and instincts, offering an outlet towards totally free economy, while the rest of the country is still shielded by the vices of capitalism and instability of the markets by the corporatist economy. But later, as Entre Rios has shown itself to the world as a stable, peaceful nation whose people have an extremely healthy work ethic and are very skilled, more and more investors came in, beginning a trend of economic growth that has been quite stable and continued for the better of 15 years, now offering it's biggest increase ever.

In early December 2019, the Eiffellander companies of Rathenau Gruppe, Königliche Eiffelländische Bergbaugesellschaft, Saillon-Granges Société Minière, CCM S.r.l., Grindelwald Machinenbau GmbH., Roussillac Sprl. and the Eiffellandian bio-pharmaceutical industry have applied and have been accepted in the Entrerriano Free Economic Zones, with many of them by now starting to set up their regional headquarters in Santa Cruz. They have been followed by the Friulian Bergjerut Mobil, which has started extraction of the world famous and extremely expensive Brumoso Marble in Barranca Brumoso and in Patacamaya, they have started the exploitation of tropical timber, exporting teak, mahogany and rosewood from the Selva, while Ğavis di Ançeplane, and the Tergest Investments bank have invested in the gold mining zone of Valle de Plata.

As per the laws of the Confederation, the private property of those companies will be fully respected, as it is normal for any civilised state, but at the same time, the workers will be members of the Vertical Syndicate, the Entrerriano federation of trade unions, which will ensure that the welfare and safety of the workers will be fully respected. At the same time, the Ministry of Environment is in talks with Bergjerut Mobil in regards to the sustainability of the timber extraction from the Selva, with the government offering financial aid that covers a part of the setting up of new plantations.

Once the companies that already were accepted start working normally, the government expects about 50,000 work places to be created. But the economic growth doesn't come from the free economic zones only, as the construction industry has reported a 25% increase in contracts compared to the first trimester of 2019. Besides the plethora of small projects that includes the buildings of new apartment blocks in San Sebastian and Santa Cruz, two important projects are the cause of this huge increase, namely the beginning of the construction phase of the Friendship Bridge, across the Madre de Dios River, linking the town of La Criolla on the Entrerriano side with the city of San Juan on the Tapenaga side, which will provide an up to 300km shorter route from Santa Cruz to Rio Bravo. The other important infrastructure project that started this year is the new belt road around Santa Cruz, which will include four bridges, one above the Catatungo River and the other three over the railway lines, so that the new road can function as a highway and there will be no traffic jams every time a train passes.

"We are very happy and very proud of this. It finally shows that we can harvest the prosperity that was sown in the late 60s. The government will ensure that the people will enjoy this growth and will actually really feel it in their pockets. We will work tirelessly to ensure that the country remains on it's path to prosperity, stability, peace and progress. So help us God!" stated Consul Roberto Campos y Tamayo.

Wildfire in Sipe Sipe: About 1,500 firefighters have been mobilised around Ciudad de Sipe Sipe on the banks of the Madre de Dios River to fight the wildfire that by now has scorched about 1,250 square kilometres of the Selva. The authorities have stated that the expected rains incoming in the next few days and the increased mobilisation will extinguish the fire before it reaches inhabited areas. The Ministry of Environment has set up two veterinarian hospitals to help treat the affected wildlife.

President Campos y Tamayo: "The Civic Process has done it's duty and completed it's purpose!"
Pronunciamiento Day speech from the president sends shock-waves around the country​

On the 10th of February, 199 years ago, freedom fighters from Entre Rios issued the Pronunciamiento of Indepence from Auraria, as the Gallian nation was caught in a devastating civil war that started with it's own revolution. The country was the first of the Occidentian Aurosphere nations, beginning with this declaration the war of independence against the Viceroyalty, the colonial government headquartered in Suarez. While officially not the national holiday, that being the Day of the Republic, in which the leaders of the revolution come together in Santa Cruz and proclaimed the creation of the Republic and the first constitution of an independent Entre Rios, it is seen by many as one of the most important dates in the calendar as it celebrates the creation of the National Army and is seen as the beginning of the nationhood of Entre Rios.

The traditional speech the president holds on this day has been marred by controversy, with many celebrating it as a landmark in the future history of Entre Rios, while others being concerned by it as they fear future instability and a return to the chaos of the 1950s and 1960s. In his speech, President Roberto Campos y Tamayo has announced the end of the Civic Process, calling it a victory that brought progress, peace, stability and prosperity in the nation and announced that at the next election, there will be no need for the creation of the national unity coalition known as the Civic Front.

"Fifty two years ago, General Alfredo Rocha has taken control of a nation that was caught in a vicious circle of political violence, seeming incapable of going past it and being held hostage by the oligarchs of the cafe con leche politics. In fifty two years, we have moved Entre Rios from the path of self destruction it was set upon by corrupt politicians and led it to a path of solidarity, class collaboration, and moral progress that holds the nationhood dear. I am happy to say that we have been extremely successful. Our nation rises now as one of the strongest in Occidentia and is the stable homeland that is ready to support and to provide it's people quality education, quality healthcare, the guarantee of a peaceful tomorrow, a successfully open path to social mobility and the safety of our children and our elderly. For this, I do proclaim victory, for us, for Civism, and for people between nations. Hence, I proclaim that the Process has been completed and that we have achieved our duty towards both our predecessors and towards the posterity in solving the issues of the Republic. Because of that, I hereby state that the need for the national unity government is obsolete and that the civic front, not being formed anymore, the incoming elections will be free, secret and fully democratic, the way Francisco Ramirez, the Supereme Entrerriano, intended when he proclaimed the beginning of the war of independence against the Aurarian crown," stated President Roberto Campos y Tamayo in his speech.

The decision seems to have come after a week of negotiations between Roberto Campos and his wife Octavia Campos as leaders of the Partido Azul on one side and Orlando Pardo for the Partido de Trabajadores, Sabina Iniesta for the Partido Verde and Enrique Cortez for the Partido Popular Unido on the other side. It has been expected by many that before the elections, the three parties seen as the main opposition to the Civic Process, will push for its dismantlement in the Federal Assembly, but the decision made by the president himself has taken many by surprise.

"It is a decision that came as a consequence of years of analysis and thoughts. Both me and the President have discussed the future of the Civic Process and after researching all sorts of scenarios, we have come to the conclusion that political liberalisation is the next step forward in the process of fully bringing civilian, and political rule back to the country. General Alfredo Rocha, as much as he wanted to see the country strong and stable, he was a hardliner and ruled with an iron fist, seeing the country as his own barracks. That is what brought an end to the militarists in the late 70s and since then we were slowly but surely progressing to a return of full constitutionalism. The Process has brought us peace and prosperity, it is time to end it's duty and let the people have against their full say," stated Octavia Campos, Vice-President of the Federal Republic.

The upcoming elections will thus see the Partido Azul, Partido de Trabajadores, Partido Verde, Partido Popular Unido and the Partido Democratico Nacional participating in fully free elections as equal opponents in front of the law and constitution, as befitting a democratic state, rather than brought together as allies in face of the adversity that hit the country so many decades ago.

Marina Garrido: We are back and you are listening to Esperando la Medianoche on the Radio Nacional Entrerriana. Together with me in the studio is none other than Olando Pardo, a member of the collective presidency of the Partido de Trabajadores, the second biggest party after Partido Azul and by many seen as the favourite to win the next elections. Señor Pardo, I am glad to have you here.

Orlando Pardo: Glad to be here.

MG: Señor Pardo, you have been known for quite a long time as a critic of the Civic Front and I think you might be relieved to hear about the announcement President Campos had yesterday. But tell me, it's been quite a surprise, I'll be honest. What stood behind it all?

OP: Well, Marina, I must say that overall, I would say it's the winds of change. As Affiliated Press themselves said, one can look at the Civic Process as a regime that was extremely hard and rough back in the late 60s and early 70s, and when the militarist wing was replaced and General Alfredo Rocha died, it started a trend in which slowly but surely, yet timidly, it liberalised. It took a long time. Longer than I would have hoped for and I think many people too, but It just felt that the natural next step would be this, and it happened.

MG: But did the Partido de Trabajadores had anything to do with it, or was it the decision of President Campos?

OP: The Partido de Trabajadores was a part of it, as I myself has represented the party in the negotiations that took place before the announcement, but this wouldn't have happened if we wouldn't have been joined by Sabina Iniesta, the leader of Partido Verde and Enrique Cortez of the Partido Popular Unido and their support. There were a series of meetings, between us and members of the Partido Azul, namely the President, vice-President and some more progressive members of their party, I won't really want to name them, and after discussions, we have decided that this will be the only natural step forward.

MG: But did you have to coerce President Campos?

OP: President Campos is a good politician and a good man. I do joke that his issue is that he is an Azul man rather than a Trabajador *laughs*. He did bring this country a huge economic growth that will clearly be felt by the people living in Santa Cruz, the Selva and the Sierra Dorada. He is quite pragmatic too, so he knew that that this system, the Civic Process will always be temporary and a point will come in which it will be dismantled. We just helped him understand that it would be better to be done now rather than later.

MG: Did the crisis in the Plaza 9 de Julio and the Holy Trinity Church have an impact on this decision?

OP: Of course it did. After the news of the great economic boom that was expected, Camps was riding on a wave of support, only for it to smash an break apart by what should have been a minor police operation. That was the moment in which many of the leaders in Partido Azul observed that they can serve the people good news in economy and promise them the world, but if they still can't offer them freedom, their reign won't last long, and that's what I think, precipitated the decision. We might have witnessed probably the most underwhelming revolution in all history. *laughs*

MG: But do you know father Hector Nores?

OP: Of course I do. He was a member of Partido Verde and then of Partido de Trabajadores, before he became a priest. As you can see, he might have officially became apolitical, but the sense of social justice was as ardent in him as always.

MG: It is interesting to observe that El Mundo doesn't mention the work of Father Nores or the crisis in front of the Holy Trinity Church at all.

OP: El Mundo is the official news organ of the Civic Front, meaning more than anything, Partido Azul. It will be clear that they will show this dismantlement of the Process as the personal idea of President Campos and their party, rather than show how great the pressure to do it really was. But in the end, what matters is that it happened and that we are here to talk as free people.

MG: What are the electoral plans for the future? Do you plan to candidate?

OP: We will go forward in this election as an alliance, us, Partido Verde and Partido Popular Unido and have decided on the name Liga de Democracya y Trabajo, the League of Democracy and Labour as our electoral name. I myself will candidate as a member for the Federal Assembly, but I won't for president. My colleague, Sabina Iniesta, the chairwoman of the Partido Verde did express her interest, but after discussing with her, we decided to go for a young politician, so as to give the youth of this country a voice and we have decided to field the current mayor of Cartagena, Señor Eduardo Saavedra Gaos as our candidate for the election. He is quite young, at his 35 years of age, but he will be surrounded by experienced councillors and I think that it will give us all a breath of fresh air from the old generation of corporatist and azulist politicians.

The collapse of the Aurarian Monarchy fundamentally transformed not only society for Aurarians themselves, but ushered in a new way of life for its overseas holdings across the planet. Over the course of such a short time, millions of peoples were freed from the hierarchy that stratified Aurarian life and gave all the opportunity to forge their own paths.

Often these republican societies are just as difficult to maintain as they are to achieve. Entre Riós and Auraria are bonded by blood and our commitments to governments that draw their power from the consent of the governed.

The Aurarine Republic was thrilled to hear of President Roberto Campos y Tamayo’s declaration that the Civic Front’s goals had been met and that free, fair elections would return to the country.

Undoubtedly, the Republic stands prepared to assist Entre Riós in whatever way we can as this process unfolds.

Disruptions at the PODE Barracks in Suarez
Military trucks were surrounding the building as a reactionary conspiracy was foiled

Scenes of immense stress could be seen today in Suarez, the second city of the Federal Republic, after a military convoy of the National Army has been seen rushing through the city from their own barracks to the PODE headquarters on the Rambla, along the seafront of the city. The soldiers have surrounded this morning the compound and called for the surrender of those inside. While no gun was shot and no blood was spilled, the siege of the PODE barracks have lasted for the better part of the day, until close to midnight, the ones inside surrendered and were arrested by the army and then transferred to the military police.

PODE, the Policia Occcidental de Defensa de Estado, was the secret police of the Civic Process and was heavily used during the militarist phase of the process, as Alfredo Rocha and his associates suppressed left wing, agrarian, indigenista and syndicalist groups. The institution was known as one of the most brutal in the western hemisphere, being sometimes compared to the Kadikistani secret services in their efficiency. The move towards the "civilianisation" of the regime, as the militarists lost power, together with a preliminary amnesty that liberated about 80% of the political prisoners in the mid 90s, have slowly sidelines the PODE, but it still remained an important element in the security of the regime and in the hearts and minds of not only Entrerrianos, but also Vaqueros and Tapenagans, an organisation so feared and brutal that only rumours of their actions kept them wake at night.

In today's standoff, the army responded to the anonymous report that a conspiratorial meeting was taking place in the PODE barracks, and rushed to the scene. It was reported that reactionary members from the armed forces, together with PODE commanders, and disgruntled members of the Partido Azul, who condemned the decision of President Roberto Campos y Tamayo to disestablish the Civic Process, were coming together in Suarez to foster dissent and sedition against the decision, going as far as to plan a coup d'etat against the democratisation.

By the order of President Campos, as a result of this, all PODE soldiers are to be disarmed. This happened in much of the country with no issue, with the exception of Suarez, in which the reactionary conspirators have held on, hoping for the much promised armed insurrection and nationalist inspired mobs to rise up and depose the government, which has never happened.

As hours passed and tensions escalated, with people yelling both from inside and outside the building, the armed forces were preparing to bring in armoured vehicles and storm the barrack. The decision was called off late in the evening, after the conspirators have announced that they surrender and exited the building one by one, with no guns, and their arms held up.

The leaders of this reactionary conspiracy were Lt. General Martin Rouco and Colonel Carmilo Pinto of the National Army. Together with them, arrested were Juan Diego Céspedes and Gabriel Villacrés, commanders of the Suarez detachment of the PODE and Umberto Santángel, a conservative member of the Partido Azul. In total about 60 men were arrested, most of them PODE agents. Besides Santángel, who is a civilian, all of the others will be court martialled and accused of treason, while the former as a civilian will be judged by a civil tribunal, but still accused of sedition and uprising.

President Campos has appeared in front of the press, flanked by leaders from both the Civic Front, but also from the League of Democracy and Labour, all of them condemning this attempted coup and the efforts by all sorts of agents to undermine the democratic process and derail Entre Rios from it's path of return to political normalcy. The police and the DAS will remain on alert, even if the PODE is now in a process of being disarmed.

Tensions in Gallo-Germania: As the ODS becomes quite a popular organisations, bringing in members and observers even from outside Gallo-Germania, tensions rise between them and the Rurikgrad Pact, as the latter recall the expansion of the Trier Concordat into Trivodnia, which started the Sever Day War. To this, President Campos states that Entre Rios must remain neutral and pragmatic.
A new type of drug: Known on the streets as Nieva or Harina, a new type of cocaine has hit the streets, made from the paste of the Pinacopodium subtype of Coca tree leaves, it is seen by many as much stronger that the usual type. It has been already reported being sold in Santa Cruz, Suarez, Sipe Sipe, San Sebastian, but more than that, it seems to be flooding the drug markets of Tapenaga and the Vaquero Free State.

High hopes in the nation for Gallian Unity

After the success of the first Gallian summit, the government of Beira sees the 2nd one as a necessity to bring together the disparaged peoples of Gallia in the face of growing expansion of the Rurikgrad Pact, especially since the People's Republic of Bourgogne has recently ascended into the organisation too, giving Kadikistan unprecedented influence in Gallia, and has Pillau allies with Ivar, a historical premiere to what were before the greatest rivals.

To this, the government of the Partido Democrata Nacional, led by Prime Minister Pedro da Silva and President Maximinho Pinto, allied in the Republican Assembly with the Partido Popular and Iniciativa liberal, have called for further integration of the Gallian nations. This is a continuation of the traditional pan-Gallian ideas that have been present in the Beiran public space since the revolution of 1819 and have been an important element to the national public discourse, especially in the debate of Gallianism vs Long Sea-ism, when defining the place of Beira in the world.

"In a world in which the nations of the periphery, such as the Kadikistani-Union, the Anti-State, and many others are becoming bigger and bigger, stronger and stronger, richer and richer, the Gallo-Germanian nations, mentally imprisoned by their old world mentality, still squabbling, become smaller, poorer, weaker and more insignificant than ever, because in front of the unitary voice that will keep Gallia together and make it again an important actor in international politics, stand the generations old squabbles and petty arrogance from an ages old past. With all that, Gallian unity won't be possible and with that, Gallia and Germania too will remain a battle ground for great powers. A united voice, a united continent is what we need, not only a forum to discuss issues and crisis as they appear," stated Prime Minister Pedro da Silva.

To the other side on a more pro-Long Sea positioning stands the opposition, led by the Partido Socialista, allied with Partido Verde and Partido Unido do Sul, representing the Faro and Cape of the Sun communities, which state that Beira should concentrate more on itself as a Long Sea nation and to cut ties with Gallian and Germanian nations, as many of the oposition politicians continue to call Gallo-Germania as the powderkeg of Europe. "The Long Sea has the SQTs and the peace. Gallo-Germania is like a sinking ship. A stupid move from this continent is ready to bring us the next world war," stated the leader of the oposition, senhor Roberto Moreno, leader of the Socialist Party.

Ferries to cross the Reman Sea: The Remana Balsa company, which has suspended it's activity back in 2011 will soon restart it's activities after a group of private investors have bought the company from the government for 500 million escudos. Roberto Moreno blasts government: "They don't care about healthcare nor education"

During Question Time, in the Assembly of the Republic, a procedure in the legislative in which the Prime Minister answers to a series of questions and responds to criticism coming from the opposition, taking place every Friday afternoon, spirits have heated up as both Prime Minister Pedro da Silva and the leader of the opposition, Roberto Moreno exchanged attacks in a heated argument regarding the education and healthcare policies of the government.

The leader of the Socialist Party, senhor Roberto Moreno has criticised the government for concentrating too much and making a too important priority out of the private sector of the economy, at the expense of the people of Beira, especially in regards to healthcare and education. This comes after the recent publishing of the final 2019 statistics of the state of the republic, which have shown that the number of hospital beds per 1000 people has decreased from 4.08 to 3.96 and the average number of students per class has risen from 25.9 to 26.3 in only a year.

"It is inadmissible that instead of seeing this country evolving, developing, becoming better and providing for it's citizens, we are wasting money and disappointing the future generations by not offering them the best environment for their development, and also mocking the elders of the nations by not giving them the change to a dignified retirement. What do we see instead? The National Democratic Party cares of investors and of multinational corporations only. They sell the minerals of Faro, they let their banks strangle our very own businesses and we see through this more capital being taken out from the country than brought it, but of course da Silva and his friends will do anything for foreign corporations if they offer him hefty bribes," stated senhor Roberto Moreno, the chairman of the Socialist Party, during Question Time, before his microphone being cut off by the speaker of the Assembly for being off topic and for being slanderous.

The Prime Minister has tried to keep his composure at first, but he did respond back with a series of attacks on the leader of the opposition, "Senhor Presidente [of the Assembly (Speaker) editor's note], it is true that Senhor Moreno is smarter than two thirds of the Socialists rolled together, but he is all tip, no iceberg, he is just a little, desiccated coconut that is under pressure to show that he does follow ideology and remains relevant and is attacking everything he can get his hands on," stated Prime Minister Pedro da Silva, before speaker cut off his microphone too as the shouts and booing from the Socialist members of the assembly became too loud.

After Roberto Moreno, five members of the Socialist Party and two members of the Liberal Initiative were taken out of the hall of the Assembly for disrupting the session of the parliament, the Question Time continued as normal and ended at 6pm, ending thus the parliamentary session for the week.

"It is true that statistics did show a slight hiccup, but that comes not from 2019, but from 2018 when we had the disruption of the Seven Day War and there were fears that should the war expand, the Long Sea might become a theatre or war too. But in the last few months, especially in the context of the Pan-Gallian Unity, we have observed that investors have started trusting the markets again, so we do expect normal growth," continued Prime Minister Pedro da Silva, concluding the Question Time.

OPINION: The importance of the Pan-Gallian Conference on internal politics
"What will be decided by the governments of the sub-continent will deeply affect the internal politics of Beira for the Years to come"

The Seven Day War and the Burgundian revolution have already shown that they were events that affected not only Trivodnia, today's Polesia, and Bourgogne, but the internal Beiran politics too. In the last elections, in 2016, the coalition of National Democrats, Partido Popular and Iniciativa Liberal barely managed to get together as little as 53% of the seats in the Republican Assembly, with the Socialists, the Greens and Partido Unido do Sul, managing to get a 39%, and the União Nacional (National Union), the far right wing party, shunned by most of the mainstream politicians managed to get 8%, entering the parliament for the first time in three decades.

The Kadikistani victory over Trivodnia and the failure of the Trier Concordat to defend its neighbourhood, and later the fall of the Grand Duchy of Bourgogne into a socialist west and a monarchist east have brought in the last two years a view of the Partido Socialista and their allies as a 5th column, ready to surrender the Republic to the advancing red tide. While this view is promoted quite a lot by the Chairman of the União Nacional, Aníbal Cabral, who does make quite the effort to present the socialists as radical as the Marxist-Leninovists, while the National Democrats, especially prime minister Pedro da Silva are using the two events to push for Pan-Gallian Unity.

In the words of the latter, a united Gallia will have more weight in its voice than taking all the countries one by one, whom he did describe in quite a lot of instances as small, backwards looking, weak and even obsolete, when compared to the great powers rising in the periphery. This push for not only Pan-Gallian unity, but Pan-Gallian integration might be problematic in the next elections for the National Democrats, as the way the people will judge them in offering a safe environment for the nation to develop is inherently tied by the positions Auraria, Friuli, Madurja, Serenierre and Petites Pays - Tyskonia take on the subject too.

In the last few polls the socialists are showing to feel the brunt of the red scare coming after the fall of Bourgogne, which has been generated mostly by Aníbal Cabral and his União Nacional, through their tabloid, O Jornal Nacional, with some of the articles openly associating a government of the Socialist Party with the arrival of the apocalypse. Cabral and his associates don't really care that Ivar sees the social democratic ideology of the Socialist Party as 'Social Capitalism' and probably is adverse to it as much as Cabral himself, as the Kadikistani Union does have a history of high ideological purism and sectarianism, sometimes seeing social democracy as bad as fascism itself. What is interesting to see is how Western Bourgogne will evolve: will it go Marxist-Leninist or is the admission of Bourgogne into the Rurikgrad Pact a sign that Ivar is now accepting popular fronts and is open to cooperation with socialists and communists from all the ideological spectre? Surprisingly, what the Partido Socialista and the União Nacional have in common is their view of Beira more as a Long Sea nation than a Gallian one, and thus their wishes when dealing with Ivar to sign an SQT on the basis of the one signed between the All-Union and Pelasgia.

On the other side, the government led by the National Democrats and Pedro da Silva, have other hopes, to bring together the Gallian nations, to integrate them and to give them a common voice that can fight for peace and stability, that meaning again an SQT with Kadikistan, but more Gallian centred. In his essay, O Sonho Galliano (The Gallian Dream), da Silva presented his view of a united and integrated Gallia in which the today countries of the continent act like devolved nations with an extremely large degree of autonomy, but have a common foreign and defence policy, a Pan-Gallian parliament exists and is made of representatives elected from all Gallian nations, crossing borders into countries is like crossing from one county to another, where people and goods can travel freely and where work and residence rights are given too all the citizens, making the sub-continent of Gallia act like a superstate. Of course, all this might sound utopian, and clearly what he will propose at the summit won't go that far, but it is clear that he will push to see the Gallian League be more than a forum where diplomats come to talk Gallian issues. Free travel and trade and a common foreign and defence policy are a must.

While generally Pan-Gallianism is in Serenierre as present and popular as it is in Beira, the other nations that will be participating at the following summits aren't as enthusiastic for it. In the middle one has Petites Pays - Tyskonia, Madurja and Eiffelland, with the former two sitting on the fence, while the latter being a full member of the ODS and enjoying free trade and trave incentives with ODS countries too, and on the opposite side from Beira and Serenierre one can find Auraria and Friuli, with the former being the main supporter of the Gallian League as a forum of cooperation and diplomatic discourse only, and the latter being with their feet on two boats, not very enthused by ODS or the Gallian League either. What will be decided at the summit will define the rearrangement of internal Beiran politics and is one hell of a gamble for Prime Minister Pedro da Silva. If he gets it his way, he can be sure that he will die in office or retire by his own accord as his popularity will explode. If he loses and the Aurarians or Friulians have their way, Aníbal Cabral and his União Nacional will have a field day and will present the failure of Pan-Gallianism as a reason to support their own "by ourselves" idea, which will see a spike in militarisation, and even a sensationalist view of the 'country under siege'.

Nearly two hundred years ago, the bourgeoisie in Ribamar, Setubal, Vila Verde and Carmona have risen up in insurection against the absolute rule of King Pedro IV da Sousa, as they aspired for equitable representation in the Cortes Gerais and an end to the unnecessary deaths coming after the military intervention to support the Aurarian royalists. Fifty years earlier, in 1770, the 3rd estate rose up, starting the Urban Crisis, asking for no taxation without representation, as king Pedro III disestablished the Cortes to have direct and absolute reign. In 1830, because the republic imposed on us was so unstable and chaotic, the military took control, and asked for the king to return from his exile and proclaimed the United Kingdom of Beira and Faro, a free, democratic, constitutional monarchy, that brought all three estates together and with the power of the monarch pushed for what was probably the best decade Beira went through in the 19th century.

By looking at those events in our past, we see a common theme, all the Beirans wanted was to reform the monarchy, to leave behind Germanian style absolute monarchy that was found in the Northern Tiburan Empire and return to the more Gallian way of policies, in which local communities were decentralised, in which the King was the personification of the state but he was still human, hence prone to mistakes and hubris and thus his power was limited by the Cortes Gerais that has members in all the three estates. What the Beirans wanted, was to organise along those lines, what they received was imposed republicanism, chaos, revolution, all coming, pushed from Catamarca. You read it right, instead of accepting the idea of locally brewed republicanism and revolution, let us look at our history a bit more detached from the current narratives, we can observe that it is Aurarian imperialism that created the republics.

The 1st Republic was created after Aurarian invasion, and a genocide took place to keep it in power, with over 5,000 being executed in a single day in Vila Verde. They rose up in 1827 to ask for the same local devolution that they asked twenty years before. When federalists rose up, the Kingdom negotiated with them and gave more power to their local Cortes, when they rose up during the Republic, the regime had them killed. That is on what the republic was built on. The bodies of tens of thousands that have died from 1822 to 1830, when the armed forces finally stopped it. The 2nd Republic is created in 1839 as a result of an Aurarian invasion, yet again. We see as a consequences only chaos and destruction again. Later, between 1860 and 1862, the civil war takes place and the Aurarians support not only the unitarians, but anti-christian elements too, and they start a campaign to uproot all elements of Beiran culture and faith.

Looking back to all this, I proudly say that I am a counter-revolutionary. I see that the revolutions emanated from Auraria have have an obnoxious influence on us. I am being called an integralist or a fascist by the government for saying this. Yet, I never asked for authoritarian rule. I ask, like the real Beiran revolutionaries, that existed during the Urban Crisis to see the crown shine above the Beiran coat of arms, and see a federal, constitutional monarchy come back to power. I am against the killing of innocents, like the republicans did to impose their rule. I am even against the dictatorship that we had in the 50s to the early 70s. I want democracy, but I want the Beiran culture and tradition respected and the only way to see that happening is to see the crown return to Ribamar as a historical justice done now, in the 12th hour.

The main attack the government, both National Democrats and the Socialists, upon us stems from this idea that should we be elected, we will set up a fascist government, we will be authoritarian and that this election will be the last for a long period. I must say that I am disgusted by those attacks as I myself have been a strong supporter of democracy. But democracy never had to be liberal, as they would be pushing for such. One can have democracy and freedom, while also still having the utmost respect for the national culture, language and its tradition. One can have a democracy as with a crown over us, the same as Eiffelland, Furlanie, Lars, Petites Pays - Tyskonia and many others. By calling the current republics a result of Aurarian imperialism, I expect to be attacked for alleged Anti-Aurarian sentiments. To those, I say that I carry nothing but love for our Aurarian neighbours and I think that a return to the open borders policy is the only good thing that this government has done. I was a strong critic of the Aurarian caudillo and his regime, as much as he wanted the National Union of Beira to follow their example and set up a dictatorship in Ribamar too. We have always stood in for democracy.

As a conclusion I will want to see Beirans understanding their history and an end to this propaganda of the great pseudo-Revolution. I want to see the local communities have devolved powers. I want to see Beirans proud that they are Beiran and I want the sluggish economy that we had in the past ten years, a result of socialist and national democratic administrations to start working again. That is what I want and that is why every Beiran should vote for the National Union.

You are tuning in into the best radio station of Gallo-Germania, ready to offer you the most important news in Beira and the world, the best music, both Beiran and international, both from today and yesterday. My name is Marina Garrido and you are tuning in to Esperando Meia-Noite, Making for Midnight, usually bringing you the latest news and gossips but also good music, but this time, it is a special show, as we will broadcast the first debate from this electoral campaign. I am joined in the studio by Senhor Maximinho Pinto, the vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Party and President of the Republic, Senhor Anibal Cabral, chairman of the National Union and Senhor Roberto Moreno, chairman of the Socialist Party.

We will start with you, Senhor Pinto, what is the first and foremost priority of the National Democratic Party should they win the election?

Maximinho Pinto: Well, it is clear by now that the economic policies that the current administration have put in use have been largely successful, as we managed to break away from the sluggish trend of stagnation that can be seen in Auraria too. We will do our best in continuing the structural reform of Beiran economy and the de-birocratisation of it, so that it will be easier to do business and invest in the country. We want to see a full liberalisation so that competitivity will start to rise and we will see increased productivity starting to offer us a healthy economic growth.

M Garrido: Thank you, Senhor Pinto. Senhor Cabral, same question.

Anibal Cabral: I will say that ensuring the continued existence of our country should be the main priority. I see the faces you make, Senhores Pinto and Moreno. I am not talking here about some survivalist craze, I am talking about having this nation strong enough to survive the adversarial tides that seem to creep upon us. Half of Bourgogne has fallen to communism. They have joined the Rurikgrad Pact, together with Polesia and were followed by Ostmark. Whomever is blind enough and doesn't see it, and believe me, Gallia is filled up with such people, still believes that we live in the same world of 5 to 10 years ago, in which the reformists were still fully in power in Kadikistan and one could still believe that the days of Nikolai Leninov were never to return, happily waiting for the end of history. No, the 7 Day War wasn't even the most important element to it all, rather the influence the new generation has on the old gerontocracy stands behind those developments. The younger generation of Marxist-Leninovists are the same, if not worse than Nikolai Leninov and they will want to start exporting the revolution again. Hence, I say, the priority is the continued existence of the nation. I am a pacifist. I want to see the Beiran people live, thrive and flourish in peace and prosperity, but when external elements are adverse to this, one needs to be strong, for in this environment, a status quo treaty keeps you safe and for that, you need to show your muscles. We need a modern, and strong military to defend us, if we want to live in peace.

M Garrido: Thank you, Senhor Cabral. Senhor Moreno?

Roberto Moreno: The Socialist Party is not obsessing over business or how to make multinational corporations comfy in our country, nor about overly militarising it. We believe that we must offer the future generations a healthy environment for them to be educated. We believe that the retirees should have the dignity of their retirement and manage to enjoy their life with decent pensions and that workers are respected. Our priority will be increased funding for education and healthcare and a more stringent set of laws for workplace safety. We want to reorient all the money that we send to the Holy See, to the Church, to the military more towards the people.

A Cabral: Come on now, Moreno, the money that goes to the Church returns back in as a third of the schools and hospitals are owned by foundations set up by the Church.

M Garrido: Senhor Cabral, please do not interrupt.

R Moreno: Those schools and hospitals owned by the Church through those foundations need to be integrated in the national system and respect the same norms as state owned ones.

M Garrido: Thank you, Senhor Moreno. The second part is about internal politics and the mater of the way the government will function. Here the much discussed and fabled monarchic referendum comes into play. What are your plans about that, Senhor Pinto?

M Pinto: The National Democratic Party is a republican party, through and threw. It was born during the 3rd Republic and has suffered at the hands of fascists during the Social Republic. We wish to continue the status quo of a unitarian parliamentary republic, that has Ribamar as its capital. Besides this more... shall I say traditional approach, the government did work to offer more autonomy to the communities in Cabo da Sol and Faro, by allowing them to develop an education medium in their own language. As it is known, compared senhor Cabral and his movement, we will, as always respect democracy and push for it.

M Garrido: Senhor Pinto, I don't think that last part was really necessary. Senhor Cabral?

A Cabral: It is actually funny, Pinto, that you say that. I have a feeling that there is this this urban legend built around me and the National Union that we want to bring back any form of dictatorship... *laughs* It doesn't matter what type, it can be a wholly new Social Republic, it can be an absolute monarchy, I even wonder if we have been accused of Marxism-Leninovism too, that would be even funnier. Senhores, Pinto and Moreno, and Senhora Garrido and whoever listens to us, I must say this. The National Union, is a party that respects democracy. I imagine that this call to dictatorship comes from them trying to tell the people that we want to push them back to an absolute monarchy.

M Pinto: Senhor Cabral, your calls that the republic is illegitimate are insulting, not only to me, as it's president, but also to the people that have lost in the past members of their families to the bullets of the royal guard during the revolution.

A Cabral: But how can a republic be legitimate when it was born our of Aurarian invasions?

M Garrido: Senhores please...

R Moreno: The republic, because we discuss of the 5th republic now, was legitimised by the fact that the citizens have voted in a referendum to adopt the current constitution. The same happened with the 3rd Republic too and even before that to the 2nd one. The only illegitimate republic, if we can call it like that was the corporatist dictatorship from the 50s to the 70s, the Social Republic, built upon by a military dictatorship and authoritarian rule!

A Cabral: And the first republic wasn't built upon authoritarian rule and military dictatorship? Because in history classes we are taught that the Beiran military was defeated when it tried to suppress the Aurarian revolution and then the dissenters from the military and the Aurarians invaded back! Where is the legitimacy there?

M Pinto: The legitimacy comes from half a century before that, when the Urban Crisis took place and the artisans, bourgeoisie and other members of the 3rd estate asked to dignity! In response the monarchy shot them. The same way the restored monarchy in 1839 was built upon a military dictatorship too and a suppression of liberalism.

A Cabral: That is why I asked for this referendum. I want the people themselves to tell not only me, but you all, what they want. I want them to break the circle and finally give their own, honest opinion.

R Moreno: Then order a survey, you don't need to throw hundreds of millions of Escudos for a PR stunt, when that money can go and help more the persons in need of this country!

A Cabral: That is what I will do then. I will use my party's funds to sponsor this survey and if it says that the people see the republic as illegitimate, this whole subject will be over. It will be one final and permanent restoration...

M Garrido: *sighs* Senhor Cabral your time expired and I think you made your views quite known... Senhor Moreno?

R Moreno: The Socialist party has been historically a supporter of a unitary republic too like our National Democratic colleagues, but a change in the views of the people themselves has been observed through our surveys and we have started to support more and more the extension of federalism towards the isle of Faro and Cabo da Sol, if necessary even giving them state status, being seen as equals of the mainland with their own local governments. We do dominate the local councils in Cabo da Sol and a few in Faro and in the districts administered by us we have supported local language use and culture and have begun social campaigns in support of local producers. We hope, should we win, expand our success from there to the whole nation.

M Garrido: Thank you, Senhor Moreno. The last part is about the external affairs. Senhor Pinto?

M Pinto: Of course, like the current administration, the National Democratic Party will concentrate on Pan-Gallianism and bringing together the disparate nations to understand that there are bigger threats outside our sub-continent and that we can only survive them if and only if we manage to cooperate. We bore ill to no nation and hope that others will follow our examples in cooperating. We do not want to be a part of any sort of crusade which can affect the lives of the people. We will hope that both Gallians, ODS, Germanians and Kadikistani and their allies understand the need to co-exist and how much suffering can come if an episode like the Seven Days War will come again, and considering the expanded geo-political blocs, it can become even worse.

M Garrido: Thank you, Senhor Cabral?

A Cabral: I do think that basing yourself on some ideals of pan-Gallian unity is quite naive, when you still have so many nations that are so different, still preferring their petty schemes over the grand view of what happens around the world. That is why, Beira, as much as we wouldn't want to, goes alone. For that we need to be strong, to defend ourselves and to keep ourselves safe, to negotiate with Ivar and Propontis and to become co-signatories of the Long Sea Status Quo Treaty.

M Garrido: Thank you, senhor Cabral. Senhor Moreno?

R Moreno: I would say that the path of full neutrality is the only one going forward, especially if we make it clear that we have to issues with any of our neighbours. We wish to mix the Pan-Gallian elements with the creation of a Long Sea Dialogue Forum, so that we will ensure that the Long Sea, a body of water so important to worldwide shipping will remain forever open, free and at peace, so that the people won't suffer from all the issues rationing can bring, in the catastrophic case the Long Sea turns into a war zone.
